What people like
- Detailed charts work well offline
- Great for finding fishing spots
- Accurate depth and hazard data
What they complain about
- Drains battery and heats phone badly
- Subscription cost feels too high now
- App crashes or freezes randomly often
- Charts can be dangerously inaccurate
Excellent Plotter Primary or Backup
Using for 2 seasons now in Puget Sounds and Canadian areas. Extremely accurate charts with superb detail. Depths are accurate and hazards well marked. Some coves and anchorages a bit conservative. Automatic course plotting is convenient and reliable. I use it alongside my Furuno Navnet for independent course verification. Excellent for advance trip planning.
App had a major glitch
This app worked for the first couple weeks - had to remove from my phone and once I re downloaded the app it just keeps asking for my subscription info over and over and won’t let me download any of the overlays - I do not recommend this app
Good app with a confusing re-start
Initial setup was confusing. The app got stuck in a “Choose your coverage” loop despite my Apple subscription being active. The issue was resolved after recovering and signing into my original Garmin/iCloud account. I believe the app could better handle multiple Garmin accounts or provide a clearer explanation instead of leaving users stuck. Email support was responsive and helpful. Once resolved, the app worked as expected.
App is draining my Iphone 17 Pro
App is using about 1% of battery every minute. Not usable for long runs. Phone is locking and turning screen off even when the option to stay on is selected.
Meh
App is cool I just wish it had a monthly option for payments. 79.99 a year is cool but I’d rather have a monthly pay option. . . Or even 3 months at a time.
Inland lakes
I stay off the ocean but this app has been fantastic for me on unfamiliar lakes. Has never let me down even with no cell service. Just download the maps before you head out
Latest version locks up newest iPhone
Update: both my partner and my navionics has been crashing this morning. Both on the newest iPhone. This app should never be your main navigation app offshore. I don't know what happened in the latest release, but it often locks up my whole phone where I can't even change applications. Not great for a boating navigation app.
3 wishing 4 more
To be honest, I love this app. Would I give it more than 3 stars? No. I use it a lot and it has some problems. Yes, could partly be my cell phone- regarding tracking. However, it’d be nice if they would dial things in the slow speed accuracy (drifting) realm. I tend to have to restart the app to get it to update location when Im drifting. Seems to lock up when I stop motoring to drift And, it doesn’t point to the direction Im drifting. Constantly bounces the arrow around. On the ocean, it’s not always easy to determine where you’re drifting. That being said, Im not giving the app up. However, it’s 2026. Somebody’s gonna bring things to the market. Ill stay here if they don’t get beat.
No Garmin native support
How is it remotely possible that Navionics (owned by Garmin) doesn’t support over wifi sync with Garmin 1243xsv? I will rip out this stupid Garmin electronics from my boat and replace them with something better than this unprofessional and distracted brand.
Losing route detail, straight lines when I was tacking
Using subscription, settings for gps when using, precise location as I’ve always done. This year I’m only getting partial track data saved. I’m losing distance and speed data. No information on the help page.
great app
this app is definitely worth i. gets me through the channel and is pretty simple to use
Charts drop
Warning, if you use the Navionics Boating app, if your subscription expires, you may lose access to all your charts, not just future updates. I expected to keep my last downloaded charts, but my U.S. East Coast and Northern Caribbean charts disappeared. If this happens while you’re at sea and you can’t renew, you could be left without charts. I’d much prefer being able to keep the last downloaded charts and only lose updates. Sharing this so others aren’t caught off guard.
Not a bad app
Everything is good, I just wish precious saved trails can be selected to stay on. If I go out one day and save my trail, the next day I cannot follow it. It saves it and I can see it,(However recently the screen goes all grey when studying it) but cannot follow old trails while underway making new trails.
App not working properly
I have used this app for many years. I just went to use it again 8/6/26 and it keeps promoting me to buy charts. When I go to buy charts it says I already have a yearly subscription. What’s going on? Frustrating for sure any help would be greatly appreciated
I loved it before
I used to have this app and I loved it. It used to be like $16 a month which I was fine paying for. I didn’t have my boat for a couple years because my motor broke. And now it’s like $77 a year. I’m in Canada. I only need this app for like three months out of the year. I cannot justify that money for three months anyways it’s too bad because I love this app. It was great. I think you guys should start offering monthly again because they’re gonna lose people like me that’s just gonna find something else. To bad 😞
Inland Waters the best
Exceeded my expectations and it just keeps getting better. I’ve yet to boat an inland lake of river that Navionics has not mapped.
Lacking in AK
I understand most are in the states but I did select the North America coverage which would make one think that they would have data for that. Most lakes in my area non existent, of the lakes that did show data ONE actually was what you would hope it would be with the remainder either incorrect or only showing half the lake data, or condensing the entire lake into a wad of lines on some random corner of the lake. I played around with the app for 30 minutes then promptly cancelled. Use the seven day subscription to search your normal haunts before you are committed to paying for potentially nothing.
Possibilità di memorizzare più barche
Ottima app, molto completa. Ha però alcune mancanze, per chi come me naviga su diverse barche - manca la possibilità di memorizzare diverse barche con tutte le info complete. Se fate questo vi prenderete 5*
Didn’t work correctly
I was trying to use this app in Lake Tahoe for fishing. I needed to find an underwater mountain that was at 60’ deep. I positioned myself just above where the app said it would be and I was in 400’ of water. I confirmed this using another boats sonar. It also said I was in 3’ of water when near the shore but it was closer to 20’. The contours were at best a rough estimate. I tried to cancel my subscription but I think it was a day late so now I have this useless app for a year and spent $50 on nothing. *EDIT* Garmin developer response makes no sense to me. Lake Tahoe at best fluctuates seasonally by a few feet not 340 feet that this app was off by.
Nice app with a couple major flaws.
I’m a paying customer and enjoy many nice features like routing, anchorage reviews, and easy map store. However, I always carry another navigation app (SeaIQ) due to two major issues: (1) the Navionics app randomly requires internet access or it refuses to operate which is unacceptable as many people boat offshore or in remote locations without internet access, and (2) you can only install on two devices at once; I sail with multiple crew and routinely need navigation abilities on 4-6 devices.
Amazing
I’ve been fishing for over a year now, I never get any Sea Bass more than 60cm long I meet a guy who use this app and he took me to a location that I never expected, and I got my first ever 80cm long Sea Bass, But the guy was using this app to mark his location! I start using it as well and it always works, I can’t recommend this app enough!! Who ever is behind this app must be super genius 💪
Es un engaño te dicen que puedes cancelar y no te da opción hasta que hacen el cobro de un año
Es mala no trabaja en tiempo real muy mala no la compren ENGAÑO
lack of notes and other small to improve
it is impossible to add some notes to a saved route. please fix it. also seems impossible to rename waypoints. finally it is really hidden the possib to rename a route: edit route, manually, review, and finally you find the pencil button
Updated version requires annual fees
I used the app for years and loved it, however it now requires annual subscription and lost all my downloaded maps. Not worth it when my fishfinders all have charts, it was just nice to have the maps on, when looking up spots when not on the water. Lost customer.
No desktop route planning
I have used this app periodically over the years. My number one complaint is that we can no longer do route planning on a desktop anymore. This is way easier than on a tablet or phone. Why was this changed? I don’t get it!
Great Navigation App.
I am a fisherman and pleasure boater on KY & Barkley Lake. Garmin is what I use on the fishing boat and I bow loaded it for my phone for my pleasure boat. It is 10X better than the Lowrance for its contours and bottom mapping. I wanted a good app for my phone so I didn’t have to mount a graph onto my pleasure boat. I would definitely buy this app any day of the week for spending time on the water.
Editing a mark location
Can’t be found here! Very annoying. I wonder who tests this stuff before updates go live?
Trasferimento dati sonar chart da iPad vecchio a nuovo
Come si fa?
Credit card
If your app is any good then why make Ilya cancel. Everyone knows how difficult it is to cancel something. Most companies are betting on the fact that you won’t remember. That’s why you never get an email stating it will be charged before hand. If I use the app and like it then I would pay for it. If I use the app and don’t like it then I have to jump through 10 hoops and be on the phone for 3 hours trying to cancel and ultimately have to dispute with my cc company. Are you that desperate for 49.00?
Need data!
Put AIS and loran on it. You will grow!
Great App
Used it as I rented a boat which had no plotters / first class navigation and functionality
Bs
App not working at all Just stole personal information
Plante au démarrage
Depuis quelques jours l’application plante au démarrage. Donc, impossible à ouvrir et à utiliser. Quelle est la solution svp ?
iOS update and now it crashes
I use this to navigate the Great Lakes and love it, but now with a new iOS update the app just crashes at launch. Please fix asap.
Why so expensive
Cool app but is it worth the extortion?
I was amazed
I do boat deliveries and every long distance delivery I’ve had modern touch screen displays and Starlink back up. I just completed a a delivery on a Hunter 306 with no chart plotter. I used Navionics on my phone to come up the St. Lawrence river, navigate the Thousand Islands and complete the job with an overnight crossing of Lake Ontario to Toronto. I was impressed with the detail of the charts and by the fact I could access my charts while offline due to no cell signal. I will purchase the full suite for my next delivery if the boat I’m moving is not fully equipped. One complaint I have is I was unable to find an option to change my cruising speed after I input at 5 kts. The software does not account for the 3 kt current in the St. Lawrence river and I was unable to make the compensations in my route plans and ETA.
Very low quality satellite images
For all the money they charge I would think they could provide useful satellite images. They are such low quality that I can’t even identify a boat ramp. What a ripoff.
iPhone gets really hot when using. This is relatively new behaviour
Didn’t use app much in the winter but, compared to last 4 yrs use in summer, iPhone battery gets extremely hot. I left the app on overnight once and wow!!! I couldn’t figure out what caused so much heat on the phone that was plugged in and charging with no use overnight. Found this app running and since then, have been monitoring. I figure this app version is currently the culprit. Who knows if it could have started a battery fire.
Huge battery drain + crashes
Will randomly crash, and you’ll lose your recording. It’ll silently pause recording in the background. It’ll run in the background even when not recording and drain your battery without you realizing until you touch your phone and it’s hot, cause of this awful app. I’ve switch to Savvy Navvy just to feel a I can breathe again. Wish I could get my money back. 2 stars cause I assume the charts are actually up to date and when it does work, it’s meh as a backup to an actual chart plotter
Menus et boutons non-intuitifs
L’application est utile, les cartes sont bien documentées, mais les boutons d’action et les menus ne sont pas intuitifs. Beaucoup de pertes de temps à trouver comment réaliser certaines fonctionnalités.
Good
Really useful back up to chart plotter and invaluable for use where you only have a fixed plotter down below.
Buns
App wont load or let me sign in
Anchor alarm
This app I have used for 10 years and would give it a 5 star rating if only it had an anchor alarm and not have to use another app
Horrible controls and menus
I am on a seven day trial and nothing is user friendly, the control are nothing like my Garmin unit on my boat. It’s says it has fishing charts but has nothing at all. Follow up… On a 7 day trial all features should be included or a least a quick and easy way to activate them. However, that is not there. Because Chart Plotters are a complicated you you need a thirty day trail, that would give your perspective clients a fair amount of time to look thru it!
Limited but has promise
The app, although a step back after Garmin took over, has seen some improvements but the app lacks and really needs the ability to have multiple boats per profile. The draft of a sailboat and even a console dinghy are extremely different, let alone anyone with a small fishing boat and a sailboat. Now, with mandatory login tied to the purchase, you can’t even use multiple user names to achieve a multiple boat experience.
D.F.
I have been using this app for quite a few years. I have not had a problem with it & I like it very much.
Unreliable
Ceases to update position while underway. Need to refresh it manually continuously. And even then it will show different headings of my boat and different positions on the water. But on the plus side, got to meet a really cool Towboat US employee who pulled us off the shoal Garmin said we weren’t on.
Downhill
Used to be a great app but you soon realize it’s not what it used to be. Furthermore it’s expensive now of course. Pay more get less is a thing these days. Read the other reviews and you’ll soon see it’s not longer a good app
Not working
I bought this a few years ago as a lifetime for $29.99+ and now I got to use the app it doesn’t work. Is there a problem with the app?
