Quite Handy
An inexpensive option and quite handy. Depth soundings are only as accurate as the current maps. Still a great 3rd option to onboard chart plotters and paper maps.

Decent value for the money
I’ve been using this app for casual occasional navigation for over 10 years, and for the money it’s fine. My biggest complaint is the number of popup ads. They are a nuisance in any app, but when I’m trying to steer a boat and use nav software and then an ad suddenly obscures the chart I’m trying to make sense of, it’s downright dangerous. The other complaint T is the interface can be obtuse. Things that should be obvious or more intuitive typically aren’t

The app is a bit clunky to use, but once you get past the initial learning curve, it has an extensive collection of maps. I haven’t used any of the other features, but I can imagine weather being a helpful feature, too.
Half-price promotion didn’t work for me
I tried to respond to the email solicitation to purchase at 50% off over this weekend but none of the links were active so I went to Apple subscriptions instead. I purchased a renewal but it cost me $64.19 (tax included), not $29.95. There seems to be no way to contact anyone for a refund of my over-payment. Program is fine, customer support, not so good.
Let down by latest UK charts
I have used iNavX as my primary navigation tool for several years with the old Navionics charts and been really impressed. However, the only charts available now for the UK are the Imray package on the iNavX professional charts. The Imray charts are the raster type and are incredibly slow to render / zoom or move on my iPad (mini 4) to the point where they are not useable. It doesn’t seem to be an issue with the charts themselves as I have used Imray’s own app without this issue. The iNavX charts are quicker, but they are very basic (no further detail on marks etc by clicking on them) and the navigation marks are bizarrely labelled (e.g. “by No 2”) and the labelling is tiny with no obvious option to increase the size so very hard to read. It’s a shame as the plotting software itself is good, but I have stopped using iNavX due to the new charts.

I’m attempting to download a Florida chart, and even though I still have an active subscription to NavionicsPlus, this app shows my Navionics charts as “expired” and it won’t let me download any new charts! What a ripoff!!

Purchased Bahamas Explorer package - disappointed
Two issues that make this a regretted purchase. First: Performance of these maps is horrible. Can’t pan without waiting and waiting. I’m using an iPhone 16 pro so not hardware related. Application needs a lot of performance work. Second: the quilting doesn’t work. Some areas are just what I expected with great detail like the exumas but then large areas with poor grainy low resolution details which are worthless such as New Providence channel and nearby areas. I’ve used the free NOAA charts in the app for over a year with pretty good results other than too tricky when wanting to zoom out to next larger chart. But once on a chart, beautiful.

International Dateline issue
I used this app on a passage across the Pacific Ocean from Panama to Vanuatu loaded with the maps for this area. On the whole the app performed well on my iPad 3G which has built in GPS. But the Achilles heel of this app is when you transit the International Dateline which cuts through Fiji and I assume it would be the same in the N hemisphere as well. This makes it impossible to view the islands of Fiji in detail as you can only look on one side of the dateline and if you want to look on the other side YOU NEED TO SCROLL RIGHT AROUND THE WORLD SO THAT YOU APPROACH THE DATELINE FROM THE OTHER SIDE ie W to E. Also your route line goes right around the world in the WRONG direction which is a safety issue as you cannot then do a scan down your route line from your current position to the next waypoint to see if there are any obstructions along your plotted route. I did not have this issue with the vessels built in Raymarine GPS chart plotter and iNavx really need to get Navionics to fix this issue. Attn iNavx Support - Can you please provide an update on the status of the fix for this very important issue which is crucial for anyone doing Ocean passages near the Dateline.. The initial feedback I posted above is now over 5 years old. Thanks Steve. Dec 2018 Attn iNavx Support - Are you ever going to resolve the serious dateline issues with your app that I have previously reported above? An update would certainly be appreciated by the cruising community..Thanks. Really needs improvement
I want to love this app because it provides access to NOAA raster charts. I’ve been using it for years and appreciate the ability to use raster charts on a mobile device. But as a navigation tool it has serious shortcomings. First, whenever you launch it it pops up ads for AIS subscriptions. No navigation app should interrupt you with ads. Second, the interface is ancient and hasn’t received a significant update in a decade (aside from incorporating ads for AIS overlays). Just try entering a lat/Lon position manually, for example! Third, switching between charts is incredibly clunky as well as buggy…sometimes the app thinks I don’t have any charts downloaded and only offers a blurry world chart. Fourth, while using the app it constantly recenters on you, which makes it extremely frustrating if you’re trying to explore your destination. I’ve provided this feedback to the developer and never received a response. My advice is to look elsewhere for a charting app, whether you’re a beginner or advanced user.
Decent Charts, Clunky User Experience
I recently tried out the iNavX app on both my iPhone and iPad, primarily attracted by its high-resolution charts. Unfortunately, the overall user experience didn't measure up to competitors like Navionics and Navily, which I find to be much more intuitive and user-friendly. The charts on iNavX are indeed of good quality and detail, which is a strong point for the app. This might be particularly appealing for those who prioritize visual clarity and precision in marine navigation. However, when it comes to ease of use, iNavX falls short. The interface feels less intuitive, and navigating through the app is more cumbersome compared to the smoothness of Navionics and Navily. Given my experience, I'll continue to rely on Navionics as my primary navigation tool. iNavX, while having its merits in chart resolution, will only be used on an as-needed basis due to its less user-friendly setup. For anyone considering iNavX, be prepared for a bit of a learning curve if you're already accustomed to more streamlined apps like Navionics.

Great App but could be improved
The “divider” function on the chart for measuring bearing and distance is behind other apps. Once you have double tapped the chart to bring up the divider function you can’t move or zoom in or out of the chart without the divider disappearing which is frustrating when trying to get a bearing between marks that are further apart then the area of the chart you are zoomed into. I have mentioned this to the developer for a number of years, but so far sadly this has never been improved.
App constantly loses map base.
Each time I try to use this app, it says it needs to reload all the N6 maps and the x-traverse system is almost hopelessly complex... It always wants me to repurchase and renew some subscription or whatever. When it works it great but I never can get it to work and there's no helpline to correct it. Plus it cost a lot of money initially and they need more money every time I try to restart the app. Help... As of today 9-3-21 all Navionics N6 Charts have disappeared with no apparent way to reload the charts. App is useless with no charts. I don’t need charts for Norway as I’m in Minnesota… Looks like Navionics and others are no longer available in INavX? App is empty now and not useable! Still same lack of Lakemapping in Midwest. I had hoped they would establish a connection to one of the many lake map or typical fishing maps useful in Minnesota, but that hasn’t happened I guess… That makes this really nice app useless for inland navigation. It was great but I’m not able to use any of the new maps that other offer such as C-Map or Navionics. Please offer Minnesota maps? B
Great app, but NO
This is a great app. Until you are trying to navigate on a sunny day and an AD appears covering the screen. Help! How does one get rid of the Ad and get back to navigating. What are they thinking?

Used to be five star, now one star
Can't download Navionics charts anymore. It erased the chart I had already downloaded when I tried to upgrade. The chart that comes with iNavX is unsatisfactory for my part of the Caribbean, and the Imray chart is worse on this platform. It's basically no longer usable.
iPad-iPhone
Bought charts uk on my iPhone Went to load on my iPad, have to buy the same chart again.. Apart from that it’s a great app, would be good to add an automated route point A to B avoiding shallows, and obstacles Really disappointed I have to buy the same charts again, bit if a rip off on same account. Hence lost of two stars
Time to change
After 9 years and 25,000 nautical miles, I am sadly having to say goodbye to this app. Although there have been new features over that time, there has been no change to some of the really user unfriendly aspects of its basic use. For example entering a lat or lon by scrolling through 999 possible options for decimal minutes?! Over the last few years it has started to crash about 30% of the time when being restored from the background. So if you are entering a harbour, check the tide on another app, and come back to iNavX you often lose your position, and it then takes no less than 5 taps to restore your NMEA connection. This is annoying but also unsafe. I'm moving on to something different.

Just purchased Explorer charts for the Bahamas and I cannot download the charts. Warning unable to connect to tiled chart server….

Have used it for 8 years, mainly sailing in Caribbean, though also western Atlantic and out to Azores. Very pleased with it. Though would like a more usable system for saving tracks (there doesn’t seem to be an easy way of reviewing sections or saving same).

Bought charts for Croatia. Trying to prep route at home before going but can’t seem to go seamlessly from one chart to another. There must be a way.
Powerful app with fatal flaws.
I’m very disappointed with my purchase. Given the stellar reputation of this app I thought I was in for a treat. But the app is deeply flawed. 1. The app remains on in the background, apparently getting location updates, until you force close it. This is not difficult to do but it is difficult to remember. When you forget you will realize something is wrong a few days later when your phone is inexplicably losing battery. Simply launching the app for a second and then closing it causes this inexplicable behaviour by the app 2. The Fugawi quilted charts that I purchased cannot be downloaded in advance. The developer points out you can pan over an area, and then zoom to all zoom levels for all the areas you need, and the app will cache the maps. This is not practical. It would take ages to, say, zoom to all areas between Vancouver and Desolation sound. You would certainly miss a few spots at a certain zoom level. But even If you do download your maps they are not there permanently and could be booted from cache on a whim by your iPhone. Then when you are out in an area with no cell service you suddenly lose your charts! It’s apps like this that make people say you need to hold onto your paper charts. It’s not all bad. The fugawi maps are gorgeous. The app works very well and is highly customizable. But the above problems I listed above mean I will not use this as my primary navigation app. I contacted the developer and was told about inconvenient work arounds. I would have preferred a commitment to upgrade the code.
Great app needs more competitive UK chart options
Have been using iNavX on iPad for years and it has been invaluable on our cross channel and UK circumnavigation trips. The iPhone version is less compelling due to uk chart options. The UK chart options are seriously uncompetitive. I like Navionics+ charts and am prepared to pay a premium for them but having to pay twice to use them on iPad and iPhone is too much. An extra £54 for iPhone access to what I already have is nuts when the standalone navionics app including the charts is cheaper. Over the years I would have liked to see the iNavX team incorporate more UK chart options to break this navionics monopoly, and open things up a bit with other chart standards that can work across multiple platforms including OpenCPN such as oeSENC or S-63. Maybe one day, then this would be a 5* review.
Trick navigation
I have depended on my ,old now, Garmin chart plotter for my sail navigation. Running down the Delaware Bay I noticed a discrepancy between the chart image and the radar overlay on Garmin I am New INav user. Lucky for me the system loads up easily. I fired up. INav showed information lining up with radar images. Garmin course image would be off by thirty degrees Guess which plotter I chose to use in Cape May channel Yep! INav earned my trust.
Not user friendly
The app crashes constantly. You can purchase map sets that will ultimately fail to open or function correctly. I want a refund.
Bad version
All the charts desappear you loose yours old charts, other bugs too. Stick to the old version
No chart quilting
The lack of chart quilting & need to constantly go back to the list of charts to keep the view current as you travel, is a huge issue. Other apps are much more useful in real use.
Current version less stable than previous versions
This used to be the best navigation app and was superior in many ways to other apps and also to dedicated gps instruments and chart plotters. Current versions, even on the latest hardware and IOS, seem to be less stable and this is an issue for a mission critical piece of software. The app has certainly improved map display and revenue collection for maps and weather services but at the expense of the user and the steadfast dependability of previous versions. Whilst the app was probably never intended to be used as a primary or backup tool for navigation, a 2011 installation on an ipad has proved far more reliable than two dedicated gps plotters from a well known manufacturer, both of which have suffered from software glitches and other failures during navigation. An updated installation of iNavx in 2017 required to continue with weather services crashed during use and refused to display a map in the course of navigation. Previously the app would show a message when the chart was out of subscription. An updated version installed on a new iphone has also shown stability issues. This is a great shame as until recently the app was undoubtedly 5 star and exceeded dedicated gps equipment in reliability and all other navigation apps and software in features and ease of use.

NOAA Charts Not Updating?
NOAA charts on laptop show changes to marks, but iNavX appears to have stopped permitting the app to update them. used to be when you went into a regions charts the beginning of the year when NOAA updated you could update all the charts that were downloaded. Now it appears that the charts are permanently stuck from to the initial date they were initially downloaded. INavXused to be a useful backup to navigating. Something you could grab after working with something like Expedition. The lack of other chart types to match professional charts used on the main boat and the increasing fees for what is otherwise a secondary service has made this app unnecessary. Real shame. It used to be a nice back up to carry around.
Great features, UI could be simplified
This is a fantastic app. Has everything you need to cross oceans. The UI could definitely use a simple overall to be propelled in a class of its own. It's hard to navigate the menus and options and key features require getting use too and lots of taps. Chart selection and management is not obvious, can't change alarm settings or night mode with going trough long list and many taps. Improve the UI!
Revised review: High cost of expiring $$ charts
I used iNavx for a great lakes coastal race and it was a great tool. The ease of tracking your course, generating a log, measuring distances, creating routes made this a great tool. Some things I'd love to see: Ability to arrange the displays on the instrumentation page (not just pick what shows), a "jot" layer over the chart where you can scribble while you plan & measure, ability to show some instrumentation on the chart page, tools to help with "what if" course planning (i.e. alternative routes and possible ETA to waypoint using GRIB or provided data). This is a great app -- the overall rating is driven down by unfair complaints about the cost of additional maps; something they can't control. For coastal sailing in the Great Lakes the free NOAA maps work fine as long as you're not heading into a Canadian harbour. No one expects their Garmin GPS to come with free maps for the world. REVISED REVIEW: SEPTEMBER 2016-- The functionality hasn't changed. That's good and bad. Good, because it works, bad because there has been no progression (i.e. no Apple Watch support to show COG, BTW, VMG). The *biggest issue* is the maps. You pay top dollar for maps, but they are for only one year. So your up front costs are iNavX PLUS $70 or $140 or more annually for you charts. While they still work after a year, if you get a new device or (like me) had them just disappear after an OS upgrade, you're out of luck. Pay again. They blame the map publishers, but I think that the source of the issue is X-Traverse, their exclusive map partner. I also believer that they intentionally purge maps after OS upgrades or when restoring from a backup to ensure that you need to keep your subscription running. Look to other navigation apps where you get highly detailed charts for a small annual fee as opposed to iNavX's giant annual fee.
Frustrating
Each time I have downloaded an update recently it has deleted my charts. I am cruising and downloading them again costs me time and money. I love the program, but one day the charts aren't going to be there when need them.
