Many Issues
It refuses to stay connected to each other at the boat. Routes dont transfer. The whole idea of the app i assumed was to NOT have to spend time at the screen console once your on the boat. Its not intuitive and no robust sync connection. I hate ot frankly. Lol. The app Its garbage.
Convivial
Pour travailler, comme planifier ses routes, mettre les waypoints, suivre sur une tablette quand quelqu’un d’autre conduit votre bateau, c’est merveilleux. C’est beaucoup plus facile de travailler sur une tablette dans ActiveCaptain que sur le traceur Garmin directement et on peut faire ça à distance et/ou l’hiver. Ce qui manque, c’est de ne pas être capable de l’utiliser sur mon ordinateur portable. Et sur mon cellulaire c’est trop petit. Je dois donc emprunter l’iPad de mon conjoint, ce qui le prive de son iPad.
No land maps or sat view?
It’s 2026, guys! How come you are not showing Google Map’s style mapping (maps and satellite view) matched with the marine charts? Leave the Jurassic for the movies!
La meilleure application de navigation avec un bémol
Garmin, toujours copié mais jamais égalé est toujours en avance sur concurrents. C’est le Apple de l’aide à la navigation voilier ou moteur. Interface intuitive, graphismes clairs, guidage dock to dock précis, prix très attractifs ( je viens de commander un 1623 XSV, un must dans sa catégorie. Mais un bémol important : Garmin mets en avant la fameuse fonction Autoguidance + dont ils sont les seuls à proposer c’est à dire un autoguidage complet et sûr de port à port ou depuis votre point de départ jusqu’au port ou un way point que vous lui aurez indiqué. Cela est la théorie mis Garmin ne dit pas que cette extraordinaire fonction n’est pas compatible si vous avez équipé votre navire de moteur(s) Mercury à commande électrique avec Joystick. Cela ne fonctionne qu’avec des Yamaha et en in-bord avec des Volvo.

Garmin Active Captian App
I’m sure this app is useful if you have a degree in computer science- I can’t seem to figure out simple tasks within the app, Garmin needs to dumb this down for the novice - it would also be useful if all the settings were aligned between their models of plotters, 4 of my friends and I were out on our boats and all had Garmin plotters of similar vintage and not one of them were the same when navigating the settings. To much complexity ruins a product.

It is very easy to use and the data and track or exact and help find fish and your way to the fish

Community input/shoreline
The ability to download community input for any area is a GREAT way to share tribal knowledge on any lake; however, the inability to download a more accurate shoreline in any area (such as satellite view) is unfortunate.

I am trying to find the latest software update for my Echomap UDH2-7. Your instructions seem clear, but then I can't find the links to the steps I'm being instructed to follow.
Fantastic guide
Activated my Echomap in conjunction with the app and this works wonders. I can use it by itself to which I’ve done and works as advertised.
Sucks
Spent 200 bucks on a chart to download on my sd card…but the files won’t copy to sd card so I got this app per instructions and now my download is on my phone and not a sd card and I can’t connect to my Garmin plotter to upload because it is older….scam…should have just order the disk and had it mailed

Chart updates and downloads, settings, not very user friendly. You’re always switching from app to Garmin site. Says free updates but always ask a new price, need a computer, micro SD card, phone/tablet etc…. Way to much to manage, videos to look at, connections, devices to use etc…. Can say that after 5 years we’re a bit more experienced but still not truly appreciating the overall practicality it offers

Cette application me permet de planifier un voyage l’hiver en plaçant mes waypoints à distance. Le hic est que je dois travailler sur mon iPhone, je ne peux pas l’utiliser sur mon écran d’ordinateur, c’est juste sur un mobile. Également, mon coéquipier ne peut rien ajouter, car cela ne se transfèrera pas et il ne peut pas voir ce que j’ai ajouté. Autre avantage, je n’ai pas besoin d’acheter une autre application mobile en cas de panne de mon traceur. Bref, c’est merveilleux, mais il y a encore des améliorations à y apporter.

CONFUSING
This is ridiculously confusing. It’s not intuitive in any way shape or form. It’s an all day affair to update maps after paying hundreds of dollars for various optional Maps. It’s the most frustrating experience ever.

Active Captain App
In general, the app works and does what’s supposed to sometimes better than the chart plotter However, the business of connecting to the boat Wi-Fi and then connect to the local Wi-Fi that has an Internet connection is very clumsy. I don’t understand why the boat cannot connect to the local network and the app be designed to also discover the boat that is on the local network, that way we can download software updates, chart updates and not fiddle back-and-forth connecting to the local network and then to the boat network. I understand that you would like to make sure the software is completely downloaded to the phone in case the network stops working or some other glitch. That way you can control the download from the phone to the chart plotter

Crystal Clear
This display is magnificent. I’m glad I switched from my 21-yr-old FURUNO display. I also like having a radar overlay option on foggy days. My AIS transponder syncs nicely with the output as well. Best choice I’ve made in a while. I learned it’s not necessary to have two identical GPS 8616xsv. A better option would have been one cab and one without transducer interfacing. Active Captan app works very well.
Junk app
Spent hours trying to update software on my chartplotter and radar through this app only to finally use sd card instead. Unreliable, useless, flaky, and poor user experience — same feedback for any other garmin product I tried. Raymarine and B&G are a million times better.

Can’t believe this POS plotter is so hard to get relief shading on. Bought so I didn’t have to use my (navionics) phone app….here we are using the phone app over the brand new 9210 xsv. Wtf

Not a very user-friendly app. No idea if my phone is connected to my Garmin echo map or not.
Peu intuitif
Pourrait être plus intuitif. Exemple pour la suppression des marques il faut chercher. Sinon ActiveCaptain (5*) est simple pour les mises à jour. Plus de fonctionnalités seraient appréciables.
The humbled man
Really like everything about my Active Captain App, and my Garmin ChartPlotter! Super nice, although a bit difficult for an old guy like me. All in all, Garmin has NAILED IT! Coupled with LiveScope and other accessories you can’t beat it!

Sync issues
As many, I mainly use my ipad for looking spot, marking waypoint and fishing spot and I work great but you can’t sync the works in between your IPad and your IPhone. In the ends, I’ve work for nothing because I don’t bring my IPad on my fishing boat. It really bothers me that on the same account their’s no way so share informations in between devices.

Great app but please….. putting in account details email and password every time is painful. Please allow a passcode or Face ID to login.
Where’s my > 125 Navionics Routes?
I anticipated that all Navionics (on Apple Devices) data would be synchronized through Active Captain Software onto my 7410 GPS Chartplotter. Nope. Why not?
