Planning
Best way to plan a long distance trip. Never had an issue on any of our passages. My first choice in mobile navigation tools.
I tried this before apparently.
Still way too dear in this financial environment. I only need a small area of my local fishing spots. The basic free version is useless. Not even depth contours.
New version glitchy, keeps shutting down
I’ve used tz iBoat for years with great success. Once I installed the latest version on 8 June 2026 it has become incredibly unstable and shuts down frequently. Really not even usable. I created a service ticket. Hopefully problem can be resolved quickly but until it is I suggest avoiding the new version Update 25 June - Ver. 4.0.3 has resolved the problem. Thanks for fixing it so quickly
Was the best Nav app available
Sadly I report that I prefer the previous version to the new enhanced release. Why? Because I want an app that is simple and can be used on an iPad mounted on my inner helm station and far enough away so that it’s uncomfortable to reach tiny plus and minus zoom buttons or use fingers to enlarge or reduce the zoom factor. The previous version had an optional zoom slider that could be reached on the screen’s right side and controlled easily by my right hand stabilized by the iPad’s frame. I have requested twice to have this feature added back but to no avail. Also the new version which is also Android compatible just seems to have too many marketing attractants that I should be able to turn off but cannot figure out how. As a navigation instructor this is frustrating to the max. I would love to rewrite this review to be more positive but only will if TZ-Nobeltec responds with some better news.
Frustrating
Keeps going into 3D view when I scroll or zoom, despite 3D settings being turned off. I don’t ever want 3D. Don’t remember the older version doing this.

I love this app! But… depth chart numbers need to be able to be read, easier. Suggestion: make depth chart numbers, a contrasting color, and, when zooming in, make the number enlarge as well. Thanks for the great product!

- La nouvelle barre d’accès rapide (barre d’écran) prend beaucoup d’espace inutilement en bas d’écran, et devient sérieusement gênante lorsqu’un enregistrement de sortie est en cours, l’espace visible de la carte devenant encore plus petit. - Le mode paysage sur iPhone a disparu? - Les NavDatas(instruments)sur iPhone ne peuvent plus être affichés en même temps que les cartes(navigation)…pas pratique en navigation sous voile! - Sur iPad, l’affichage des navdatas reste un peu petit pour une lecture de loin. - Toujours pas de fonction routage voilier… - La cartographie satellite est dépassée (peu précise en zoomant et très ancienne), et oblige à utiliser Apple Plan en parallèle, en particulier lors d’une arrivée sur un mouillage. Je ne recommande pas tziboat v4 en l’état sur iPhone pour les voiliers ! La version v4 iPad est pertinente en l’état mais demande des ajustements.
This is a great app, but…
I’ve been using this for a few years professionally for deliveries and charters throughout the Caribbean. I’ve always been very happy with its functions and quality of charts, integration of weather and what I think is the best anchor watch available period. My only complaint until now has been that the satellite overlays are very very out of date, 7-8 years in some cases. However the new version is clunky and very frustrating. Weather used to be a simple layer you can turn on or off, but now is a separate tab, which doesn’t open on the same location as where i might have been on the Navigation tab, so then i have to move the chart again to were i want to see the weather. The Anchor tab seemed un-needed as it was just a button, so why make a tab that has to be set up with the layers you want visible. The logbook was always available in Smart Search so also seems like an extra layer of UI for no reason. My biggest complaint is that I can no longer use Smart Search to find and activate a route. When choosing a route from Smart Search the chart zooms out, but the activate icon is greyed out, and it doesn’t show the route unless I click on the start waypoint, but I have hundreds of routes and many share start waypoints, so then i have to change the settings to show arrival waypoints, find the arrival waypoint on the chart, and then i can click activate. What used to take 5 seconds now takes 5 minutes. I love many things about this software and the PC based TimeZero, but am not happy with how clunky version 4 is
Wonderful surprise
Just installed TZ pro 2 months ago. Added TZ IBoat at same time. I am thrilled by the integration of the two systems. I plan rout on the IPad and they are uploaded to TZ pro. Activate a rout on any device and the rout is active on all system devices. Highly recommended product.
Relief shading
For some reason the relief shading just stopped randomly in the middle of the river just before a bridge
Overall solid stabile performance
I use TZiboat as a route planning tool as well as a monitoring app, while off watch. In a few moments I can get all the important information about the position of the boat and progress along the route

Best nav app on the market!
I’ll be using this app for r2ak 2026 and its the full package. Weather, tides, ocean conditions, ais, offline navigation, and multiple charts it has it all. All with intuitive user interface when on the go. And to top it off, the customer service is wonderful. If you wonder which app is worth the money, this is the ONE!

This company actually cares about improving the app for the user. A while back I wrote a lengthy email explaining all my issues and frustrations with this app. Instead of brushing me off with a copy paste apology I was asked for a list of things I’d like to see changed. I then got follow ups for clarification on some of those changes. It’s taken some time but many of issues I and I’m sure many others once had with this app have been addressed. This kinda of attention to improving will definitely be affecting the next MFD purchase that goes on my boat. Thank you for not being satisfied with good enough.
Disappointed by charts
Software is OK I had used Navionics in the past in the Atlantic and Pacific, so decided to try the new TZ iBoat charts for our current cruise in the Marquesas and Tuamotus. What a disappointment! No satellite view, whereas Navionics has, at least in Eastern Pacific, excellent satellite overlay This is useful anywhere, and critical inside the atolls, which are mostly un surveyed and full of coral stacks known locally as bommies. These show well on Navionics. In passing, notice that TZ for the P C also lacks the satellite overlay. We use the freebie OpenCPN for that, despite having TZ and up to date TZ charts on the ships computer. Many years ago Nobeltec had good satellite overlays on their VNS software, but are missing the boat today.

The program needs to allow routes to be combined into a trip plan.
App needs upgrades to match the competition
I have had limited experience with the app but a big feature that is missing is auto routing which is available and works so well on other platforms. It’s not intuitive and even when looking at buying additional functionality/ modules it doesn’t clearly tell you what you are getting, if it’s a one time purchase or annual subscription etc. This App has a lot of potential but needs serious work before it will be my primary navigation tool.

I love this app and all its features. Very useful and kinda simple to use. Advanced options are great. Customer service is excellent and quick to respond to questions!!! I tell everyone bout it.
Critical flaw
This app has a major flaw; it does not enable any chart data that has useful satellite imagery. There are at least four sets of navigationally useful sat imagery I know of, and that’s just counting US sets! But I can’t access them on TZ iBoat. C’mon folks, time to join the digital age.

Works great. We are infrequent boaters a d this saved us buying more electronics than we wanted.

Don’t understand how an app that cost this much doesn’t have a better satellite image. So many free apps out there with better sat images
Pay twice for an upgrade
This app is good and it blends seamlessly with the (eye-wateringly expensive) Time Zero charts for PC. However, despite my subscription still having 5 months to run its simply wrong to demand that customers pay full price again to make use of what is simply an upgrade. With the high costs already associated with the PC it feels that the developers treat their customers with contempt. I don’t trust them not to do the same thing with future upgrades.

Horrible map accuracy, sleek app.
I really want to love TZ iBoat, but I can’t safely use it. Compared to the Navionics maps and app, it’s simply not a viable option. Shallow Tampa Bay, Florida is my main sail area and this is routinely off by 5+ feet where it matters most. It has nice features. I bought it for the auto pilot integration, and possibly radar module down the road.
Upgrades
System works great. Auto routing like most of your competitors have would be a great addition! Also I still would like to be able to mirror my camera that is facing back. I would like it to be like a rear view mirror. At the present time the right side of the monitor shows the port side and the left show starboard. It would be less confusing. Otherwise very happy.
Charts old?
My area here on the west coast of Canada the charts are not up to date when I compare to Navionics. Very old changes still not applied. For example my dock does not appear on the chart? This dock has been here for decades. Lost confidence and rather pay the Garmin people, they do have a much better product in the end.

Don’t purchase if you are on the Great Lakes in Canada
They advertise raster charts for Great Lakes but there is a lot of information missing on the Canadian side. C-Map or Navionics apps have proper data.
Hot colours
The only thing I think this app needs is the hot colours key for contour's. This is a great app to use when you are at home but you have to use your other system to check the contour’s on the fishing chart.

Quite good, but a couple of little niggles
Use it for coastal fishing. Quite easy to add marks, but why oh why can you not name them as you add them? You have to tap ‘done’, then go to the mark, tap it, tap rename then enter the name. Adds unnecessary clunkiness to inputting marks. Also is a bit laggy when trying to zero in on a mark a low speed. Makes it difficult to anchor close to the mark.

Do you only good thing about the product currently is the price of the charts subscription. my biggest pet peeve with this program is importing waypoints and routes. When importing waypoints TZ creates an additional waypoint on top and gives it a number. When you move the way point you now got to move two of them. Adding to the annoyance is that the created (numbered) waypoint lays on top of the one you created (and named) and becomes unreadible. As a Pro Mariner (Tug/Barge between Vancouver, West Coast upto Alaska) . we are frequently faced with routing issues and require many waypoints to be moved.. TZ has made this impractical and very annoying. If we create a voyage plan in TZ and export it (.gpx) also shows numbered waypoints on top of named, so now your stuck with twice as much waypoints. Unacceptabel TZ! Not renewing, not reccomending untill you fix this.
Some truly great features; lacking other features

Still Lacking No quick MOB/event marker dedicated button No route or marker manager No auto routing feature I have a good feeling most of the bad things will be addressed soon enough in future updates.
No autoroute function?
I do like and use the software for certain features, but no automatic route creation? Seems like that’s a pretty important feature if you want to consider using this app as your default navigation software. I assume it’s coming, but until it does, I’ll stick with Navionics
Nice basic app
Nice basic app, good detail and information. I like the ability to interface with my Furuno suite but is missing some of the key features available on other apps, especially auto routing, weather, tides, currents, departure/arrival time.

I was very pleased to use TZ nav software. I had to quit Navionics-Garmin because they shut me down for an update. I can not update software when I am offshore. I use a Bluetooth GPS antenna to navigate with TZ on my I-Pad. It is a better product and a better buy. With TZ I can select the right chunks of the global grid that I want. Navionics wants me to buy much larger chunks of the globe for far more money. I also like seeing a constantly adjusted ETA on the distance measuring tool. Now I have no fear of being locked out of my software. Charter boats have chart-plotters that may be unfamiliar or “salty”. I can always rely on my I-pad for nav or an alternate zoom. Peter Shearer

Great app
I recently helped sail a boat from New York to Florida and downloaded this app for myself to use while aboard. Turned out that the chart plotter on-board failed and was unreliable and I took over navigation using iBoat. Really happy with being able to download both raster and vector charts as I found both had their advantages. Having tides, wind, weather and current date available both on and off line proved invaluable. Thank you for great app and will continue to use it, possibly as my main chart plotter on my own boat.
Overly complicated routing and quirky with iBoat
This is a good program but overly complicated to operate. I have the DRS4W radar and iAISTX transponder. The initial setup of all this is somewhat complicated and requires time to get right. But it will work. The greatest problem with TZ iBoat is, it’s complicated routing procedure, turning routes on and off. The worst iBoat “feature” is assuming in the bottom right hand corner box of the screen assuming that the user always wants to record or visualise a trip. There must also be a better way to turn tracking and routes on and off, and program/store a route. It would be better to always show course and speed in its place. If you do not use routes every day, it’s almost impossible to remember how to program and use them in TZ, and using the top selection bars to turn on and off. Suggest use words rather than forgettable symbols. If I was to say anything to the TZ program designers, it would be that everything needs to be simplified down to the most basic level. The routing creation, selection, turning on and off is cumbersome. The assumption that you always wish to record a trip in the lower right hand corner is clutter on the screen. (Consider reversing the position of the start stop box with the “swipe right” instrument information that appears on the left of the screen.) The connection of an AIS transponder and to the DRS4W in the instruction manual could be expanded upon. The description of how to interface the DRS4W with the AIS data, and the radar could be expanded upon. However, it’s incredible that you can have charts, radar and AIS on the windscreen. All of that said, and despite its quirkiness, the TZ program does seem to do everything it’s intended. However, if you cannot remember how to operate the routes, then this function will not work for the user who wishes to quickly program the route. If you do recall how to do it, then the routing procedure is very difficult. Navionics routing procedure is much easier.
Ecosystem still incomplete
First a blaring and almost inacceptable omission, where is Active Captain? A second omission, weather! Where is weather data? A third, Signal K instruments connection would be nice. But mainly, it is my opinion that the TZ ecosystem is incomplete. First, it is unacceptable to make your TZ Navigator, Professional, and Furuno clients pay charts twice. We already pay enough for charts on the PC or chart plotter and those should carry to the iPad companion app. I know it is related to your chart licensing agreements but this is the reason, not an excuse. Fix it! The new TZ cloud is a big step in the right direction in integrating PC and chart plotters with the app. We now share routes between the three platforms when connected to the internet. This is great! What I would like to see next is for the app to be a remote for the PC or chart plotter via an on-board WiFi network. I would like to be able to start a route from any device and have all of them synced instantaneously. Start the autopilot or radar (including radar connected to PC or chart plotter) from any device. Silence alarms from any device. An Apple Watch app to receive and acknowledge alarms, and provide instrument data, and route data such as XTE, would be awesome. Seeing how the TZ products, especially PC and Furuno based, innovate for professionals, ever pushing visualization and security features, it is very disappointing to see what appears to be a lack of vision in the mobility and cloud space. It appears as if Maxsea/Nobeltec/Furuno are content by simply playing catch-up with the competition as opposed to having an innovative vision in mobility and cloud. From an otherwise innovative company, this is disappointing to say the least. All that said, I still buy your products, so I guess I still believe!
