One of my very favorite apps
I've been using Recipe Keeper for years and love it. I referred to it regularly when I'm shopping to look up ingredients. It's a great recipe management app!
Limited saves
You can only save 20 recipes before you pay
Suggestion
Hi, could you please make it so i can print the recipe without directions?! A lot of my recipes don't need to be explained, but it still says directions on the page.
Just get it (maybe??)
I just posted a glowing review of this app. Then I noticed there was update for it on Apple apps, so I clicked to update. was skeptical. BAD IDEA. Now the app is having problems loading a recipe from website addresses. So…. Keep that in mind as you read my earlier review below. ******** I was so skeptical it was worth it that my friend bought it for me. It’s terrific. I don’t use it for the “shopping list” thing. And I still own cookbooks and 3 binders and a pile of xeroxes not yet incorporated into any system. But I’ve switched over to this system, saving new recipes. The best thing about it, I think, is just the ease of finding recipes. That alone is worth the price. I’m sure there are additional bonuses (the meal-planning is one), but I haven’t used them.. One nit-picky comment (because I’m a language person): it should be “Instructions,” not “Directions.” 😆 and there are a couple other elements that are not as clear or user-friendly as they ought to (or could) be, but it’s still pretty amazing.
Shopping list isn’t the greatest
This app is great for the most part. I’ve been able to export meals from books and pdfs I own and it lets me adjust it down to 2 or 4 people which is great. I only have an issue with the way the shopping lists are made. For many ingredients they’re the same. Garlic powder, onion etc. however when you transport them to the shopping lists it does the measurements individually too. So if one recipe calls for half an onion diced and one calls for half an onion sliced it comes up with it in different ways. It would be great if it could have the measurements, preparation way (sliced, diced, cubed etc) and the ingredients separated. So one recipe might call for 1 whole onion, another for half an onion and it doesn’t matter in what way they are prepared. It should just read we need 1.5 onions for the ingredients. To reduce waste. Otherwise we have to go through everything first and do the maths and make sure it’s not further up on the list too but in teaspoons instead of cups because they begin with a different letter. So one meals has 0.75 tspn garlic powder Another meal has 1/5 tspn garlic powder. But it should combine how much we need all together for all recipes in the shopping list. Or at least have the ingredients be the alphabetic order. So garlic powder is all next to each other not separated by how much.
Great Recipe app!
This app is wonderful, don’t hesitate. Good value also.
Extremely disappointed
I paid the $20 for unlimited use and was supposed to be able to sync my account across all devices. Not only have I been unable to do so, but my attempts to reset my password are useless also, as I never receive an email link. I’ve tried emailing their support for the app but never received any response. I’m very disappointed that I wasted my money.
Yes, it's that good!!!
This app has it all and then some! Forget trying other apps you’ll just waste your time and eventually, you’ll be back here getting Recipe Keeper
Deleted all my recipes
This app was really good but I went to add a recipe and found all my recipes gone. I also couldn’t sign in and would have to pay $19.99 … I’d be willing to pay it if it’s once but how do I know if it’ll have my recipes and why should I even need to pay to login?
A bit glitchy
Wanted to love this app as recipe storage with a simple interface for meal planning and shopping lists. Mostly it’s ok but last week it left a meal of the shopping list and this week it removed an ingredient from an uploaded recipes (from the middle of the list). It works, I just check everything is correct every time now which isn’t quite the mental load help I was looking for.
Recipe Keeper
I love the app. It is so convenient to be able to download all of my favorite recipes. I can even scan my printed recipes and add to the app. This helps me get rid of all the paper. I would love a way to make my own notes on each recipe
Frustrated
Can’t get it to sinc
URL “Import” Confusing
Don’t try to copy and paste a URL. It won’t work. Instead you have to type a search term into the URL space and search like that. It actually works well, but it’s incredibly confusing at first. They need to do a better job explaining that when you open the app for the first time.
Great app but recent updates suck
Have been using this app for a few years after my brother tried a few different recipe apps and recommended this one. It’s been great, and has (for the most part) gotten better over time. Importing recipes from websites is really easy, especially compared to the early days when you had to manually select which parts of the recipe were ingredients, which were method etc! I also love the little shortcut bar above the keyboard that allows you to easily select fractions and units of measurement (cup, tsp, tbsp). I do wish they didn’t include spaces after the selected words though - if recipe needs multiple cups of something, I need to delete the space before adding the s!! However, a more recent update is doing my head in! Now any recipe I import automatically changes fractions to decimals which is really irritating. Not only is it not the standard way to display recipe quantities, but I now have to read more carefully and peer at my tiny screen - more than once I’ve misread 0.125 as 0.25. I wouldn’t have had the same issue with 1/8 and 1/4!! As if the fractions to decimals wasn’t bad enough, all quantities now default to one decimal place. So I need 1.0 cups of an ingredient rather than just 1. Also my recipe serves 4.0 people! This is absolutely infuriating!!! It makes recipes visually cluttered and harder to identify the quantities with a quick glance. Sure, I can go through and edit all the recipes to remove .0 from every number but that’s horribly time consuming and it would be much better if they didn’t just add it in the first place. If you want to make the (probably extremely small number of) people who want decimals instead of fractions happy, just add it as a setting, don’t mess it up for the rest of us!! Ditto for those (mostly bots) who want all whole numbers displayed to one decimal place!!
Awesome!
This is such a great app. I have added so many recipes from websites, hand written and typed recipes. Fully recommend to anyone that wants to keep their recipes organized and added to. Couldn’t be more pleased.
What a joke…
This recipe keeper app is great. I love it. The biggest down side that I just came across is that if you pay the $20 for “pro” on an apple device to be able to sync recipes with an account. You in addition to that have to spend ANOTHER $20 if you want to use them on an android device. $40 to be able to use my recipes from my iPad to my new digital android calendar. Every time I go to sign into my account to access my recipes it wants me to “upgrade” to pro for $20. If this is a bug please fix it, if not the greed is insane.
Daran sollte man dringend etwas ändern. Echt schade.
Nearly of my favourite apps
I’ve previously given this app a top rating. It’s almost perfect except it keeps deleting recipes. I am glad I kept some of my late mums hand written recipes rather than just store them on the app or they would have been lost forever.
Not a Newbie
I’ve been using Recipe Keeper for years and I still love it. Actively recruiting friends and they like it also.
Sync feature is misleading
I’ve had this app for about 5 years. I upgraded to the PRO version so I can have this sync across devices. I have a tablet and phone that I alternate between when I cook. I was pleased with the feature that the free version of the app has. I wanted to be able to add recipes to one device and edit it on the other which is why PRO was purchased. From day 1 I have never been able to sync the devices despite creating an account, changing the password multiple times, and finally uninstalling and reinstalling the app. This app STILL has not worked across devices. There is also no way to contact anyone to troubleshoot. It really sucks because everything else is great. I’ll be looking elsewhere for a better recipe keeper.
Seafood
Great app but you need a ‘seafood’ or ‘shellfish’ category as opposed to just ‘fish’
Great idea, difficult accesss
The app does what it says on the tin, and brilliantly well: deciphering my handwriting and converting the recipe into something useable, so easy saving inline recipes, or those pulled out of magazines etc. Where this falls down is that you can only login using the identity attached to a device, so on a family iPad with a different Apple ID you can’t log in. And there’s no non-app / web-based version. If I’d know this before downloading then I’d probably have chosen a different app.
Video
I would like a video feature that allows me to save videos of certain recipes so that I can watch them later.
Meh, I only got this so I could see MY recipes on Alexa - huge fail!
I bought this so that I could access MY recipes on Alexa Echo. That barely ever works. You have to disable and re-enable the app and even then it’s a shouting match with Alexa. Just getting my recipes from Paprika into RK was a huge hassle. Adding new recipes from the web are 50/50 if they will import. I have gone back to Paprika 1000 times easier to use, has a cleaner interface and it just works. I really wish I never bought this app!
Fantastic with a one limitation
I’m trialling this and the fact that I rarely pay for an app is testament to how good it is given that I’m thinking of paying £20 for it. I love the interface and functionality and the cookbook creator is fantastic. The only negative imho is that you have to pay additionally for the desktop version.
Schade
Great when it works
I’m using the free version currently. Started off really well but it has just stopped loading recipes. It looks like its going to work (as in the options to pick courses, key words) but then they don’t transfer to the app.
A Lifesaver
It has been an amazing addition to my travel life. To be able to take the recipes people always want me to make and have them with me no matter where I go. I especially appreciate the ease of adding a recipe by typing taking a picture, copying pieces of it into the machine … with no problem!!!
Just doesn’t do what it says it does
Not a bad standalone app for your phone if free, but I paid $19.99 primarily because it’s supposed to work with the larger new Echo Shows and it just does not work. I’ve struggled since April and now cannot receive a refund through Apple for the app. None of my recipes show up, even after unlinking and relinking with the Alexa app, it just tries to pull recipes from the internet which is useless. $20 down the drain.
Good but could be better
This works well for me but the fact that I can’t import from all recipe websites is an huge inconvenience
Importing from photos is not as helpful as it used to be
I love this app and have been using it for a while, but it’s just got “too clever”. Now when it imports from photos it re-writes the recipe for you - but sometimes incorrectly. Never had a problem when you just cut the directions out of the photo. I now have to check through and re-write bits. I’m sure it will get fixed and go back to 5*’. Have a horrible feeling AI has taken over!
Love this app!
I use this all the time as a way to organize my recipes; great for sharing recipes
Terrible
Thought this was going to be a great app to store all of my saved recipes but does not work as advertised, import recipe from a website then you ave to still import all of the info yourself so you can actually use it. Don’t waste your time
Love but want some more planner tools
This app is great, user friendly easy to use. Just want a few more options in creating the meal plan like being able to specify number of vegetarian meals or protein types per week.
Great app but a bit misleading
Was loving this app, especially the ability to import recipes from photos. Good layout customisation too. However, disappointed to discover I need to purchase it twice to sync from iPhone and iPad to my laptop. When you upgrade to pro, it mentions you can sync recipes across “all your computers, phones and tablets”, but beware this is not the case (unless you wish to pay twice) - this seems pretty misleading, especially for people who aren’t so tech savvy.
My favorite app
So easy to use - bye-bye recipe cards! I can access all of my recipes from anywhere, print them, share them, create a family cookbook, etc. Highly recommend upgrading to the “Pro” version to be able to add unlimited recipes which you can do by scanning a photo, importing from a website, etc. — incredibly easy & a very reasonable one-time cost (not a subscription).
Limit 20 Recipes - don’t waste your time
I must’ve missed something when downloading…. You’re limited to 20 recipes, then they want $20. Nope.
Danke
Upload my own video
Can I upload my own video making the recipe?
Just an idea …
It would be great if we can import recipes from tik tok..
I love this app!
I love using Recipe Keeper because it makes cooking so much easier and organized!
Meh
Lost my recipes twice now. Wouldn’t recommend. The first when I logged back in all data was gone, tech support was no help, second time, got a new phone app not supported cross platform. They tell you to resubscribe after already had payed a years subscription.
Exactly what I wanted
This app makes meal planning and grocery shopping a breeze! I did get frustrated with the pricing as I didn’t realise that the iOS version and desktop version had to be paid for separately in order to sync them. However, it’s a one-off cost which I prefer to a subscription. I also emailed their customer service about the pricing confusion and I can only say good things. They responded incredibly quickly and were very gracious, even offering a refund.
Functioneert matig
Great app but wish I could sync across devices.
I mostly find recipes on my phone to save but when I cook I like to use my tablet. However my phone is Apple and my tablet is Microsoft so cannot sync.
