- Excellent reports that accountants actually like
- Easy to organize expenses by business
- Great for freelancers managing multiple income streams
What they complain about
- Automatic mileage tracking is often inaccurate
- Bank connections frequently break or fail to sync
- Support is slow and rarely resolves issues
- Requires constant background location access for auto-tracking
Perfect for Freelance
After spending way too much on accounting software that was supremely complicated and inflated for my purposes, Hurdlr has made my bookkeeping a breeze. I used to avoid it like the plague and it made everything worse. This is actually easy and kind of fun. I am a freelancer with two separate businesses. This app and the accompanying site is all I need to track expenses and income and organize it by business and expense category. I can organize and tag everything on the go. Tracking mileage is so easy. I do it every night and it takes all of 10 seconds, helping me keep clean, clear records. I have saved tons of money, headache, and confusion with more complicated systems. The quarterly estimated tax figure and simple profit/loss graphic that updates real Time is super helpful. I’m more confident now about my business finances when I used to dread looking at it. If you freelance or solopreneur or even have a few contractors, this may be exactly what you need.
Things have changed
I have been using this app for going on 10- years and other than something very simple it has beena huge help, I always set it on AUTO and it always let me know what the status was. Here lately I can’t trust what I am seeing from adding vehicles to trying to communicate with the robot or who ever is behind the screen. I feel very disappointed because I don’t know how long or how many transactions trips are absent. I changed phones is the only thing I can think of. This situation with this app have really gotten impersonal. Not happy
Really helpful
Love how it help to organize everything for you little by little. Has some interface issues of graphics at the bottom on an iPhone….a little messy from a graphic standpoint but very helpful for small 1 man business
Auto trip tracking
There isn’t an option to just push a button to turn on GPS tracking, and track mileage (or I haven’t found it). In order to have the app track your mileage you have to turn on the “always on” option in settings for your GPS. “Only while using the app” isn’t an option if you want the app to automatically log your miles. Very disappointing. There’s no reason the app should be tracking me 100% of the time. I should have an option to just turn it on when I know I’m taking a work trip.
Practical
Hurdlr is practical but not very flexible. I like that it helps you keep track of all your activities but I feel like it doesn’t allow for ease of use when entering data. For example if I set up a rule, it seems to want to apply that rule to all entry. So I enter a new rule and I end up entering a bunch of rules. Maybe I’m using the program wrong but it doesn’t seem very intuitive to me. I do like that it keeps everything in order and allows for easy tax filing if you keep it up.
It's good
I like it.
Doesn’t automatically track even if you pay
I paid for the app because I loved the convenience of automatically tracking all mileage. However, once I paid it never worked. I reached out to try and get help without response. I’ve tried to cancel my paid version but no response. I am still paying but not receiving the benefits.
Mileage tracker great
Great mileage tracker. 50/50 on bank connection still have to use qb for that unfortunately
Doesn’t always track mileage
This app is not useful. You this missing some of the trips even al the permissions are on and the app is running. I have recognized it several times!
Okay Quality
The requirement to always keep Hurdlr open is both inconvenient and taxing. Figure out how to make this app record auto miles and all expenses while closed on the smart phone. No excuses accepted. We know what they are like.
Super helpful
Easy to keep track of the numbers!
App Sucks
Every other day your app asks me to relink all my banks. It happened countless times, I relink them then two days I will asked again. App is really bad, will not recommend it to anyone.
It’s good
I like it so far. Generally, it’s better than quickbooks’ alternative. The mile tracker is inaccurate at times. I leave home and the tracker puts starting location a few blocks down the road. The app is lacking some functionality like selecting multiple trips. Other than that it’s very good. I’m happy with it.
There is effectively no free version of this app.
When first get the app it may appear that you can get free automatic milage tracking. You cannot, you need the premium plan for that feature, and I’m pretty sure mileIQ is cheaper. The free plan seems to allow you to manually input your milage for each drive, but I think you’ll find a notebook and pencil preforms that function more reliably and without collecting or selling your personal information and data. The paid premium version probably works fine, but if you’re expecting to get any functional features of the app without paying, you won’t. 🤷♂️
Shop around.
Confusing for me. AI representation is also frustrating.
Great company!
I love that you can use them for business and personal. Been with them for 5 years and I have no complaints.
Auto tracking not functioning
The interface is simple and elegant but the key issue for me is the accuracy of automatic tracking of trips. My experience on three trips is that it is highly inaccurate.
Thanks, i am grateful for the speed and diversity of this App
It is much appreciated The milage tracking works well Expenses as well Next year i will add accounting and invoicing…..
Uber expenses
Does not track Uber expenses properly the GST you pay to Uber is not calculated into your tax credit so your tax GST payable is not accurate.
Works Great - Some of the time
I use this app because it comes to me free through my Realtor MLS subscription, if it were not free to me, I would not use it based on its consistency. The location tracking is consistently not accurate, even with all the permissions turned on it starts tracking too late and does not have accurate reporting. Additionally, I connected my bank account to categorize the transactions. And it fails to sync transactions from my savings account and misses transactions that come into my checking account. When the app works, I think it’s great. I just wish they could clean up some things.
Easy and clear
I’ve been using Hurdlr for several years now. I like it because it’s pretty easy to figure out. Adding an expense and documenting with photos is simple and the general tax categories are already provided, yet I can add additional ones if necessary. I love the reports that I can print at the end of the year and so does my accountant. In fact, she commented on how much she liked the reports. Also, the support is helpful and fast! Very responsive!
Looking for Canadian version
Any suggestions?
Does more than what I need
The mileage reports are great. I just wish I could assign multiple trips to Uber or DoorDash at the same time instead of having to swipe and click twice. When they reduce the amount of gestures to 1 instead of 3. I will give 5 stars. Really good app but needs polishing the UI needs work
I love it but you NEED TO ADD GST/PST for Canada
Our accounts hate that we don’t have separate GST PST in the app vs Taxbot. It’s almost a make or break feature. It wouldn’t be that enormous of a task to add this feature for your Canadian customers. I’ll support you for years to come if you add this if not, eventually we will have to move on. That app is pretty good otherwise but the whole point of it is to track your taxes and that’s not happening well for us here. Developers please add this NOW!
Data always on
I am happy with the app but it is unacceptable that mobile data as to be always on, not only when using the app. This consumption of hundreds of megabytes costs a lot depending on your data plan. What does the app always track in the background?
Surprisingly easy
Hurdlr makes it easy to log and save receipts and miles. Big fan!
Needs a lot of fixing
Banking integration stopped working for 4 months and still paid for the app. Doesn’t updated properly. Lots of bugs
Great interface, but doesn’t track correctly. Bad at resolving issues
I loved the idea of this app, and it worked great at first, but after a while it stopped tracking my Uber earnings accurately, and intermittently doesn’t track my mileage. I’ve had a support ticket open with support for about the earnings for about two months now, and the only time I hear from them is when I ask for an update, and the response is ‘we’re still looking into it’, which translated from support speak to English is ‘this isn’t important enough for us to deal with unless you make more fuss about it’ (I know this because I used to work in support for a startup that had this exact attitude when it came to escalated support tickets). I’ve cancelled my subscription and will be looking for an alternative.
Okay
It’s okay
Keeps track of everything
I like how it automatically tracks my mileage. As a Realtor we are all over the place and keeping track of your mileage is essential. Aside from that it’s easy to keep track of all my other expenses. Would definitely recommend to any agent!
Completely useless if you don’t pay
This app is completely useless if you don’t pay for premium/pro. If you start using the app and pay later, the app just stops tracking you at a certain point which gets you income, expense and taxes numbers that are way off.
Very good app with one flaw
This app is great and much better than quickbooks but the integration with one of my credit cards is not working properly. I’ve spoke with support and it has been 2 weeks without resolve. The issue is it archives all my transactions so I have to manually restore them one by one. Other than that, the mileage tracking is top notch and I like the layout and snappy interface.
Reliable
The app offers multiple services in addition to mileage tracking, making it easy to manage business transactions and other details in one place. It learns your habits but still requires attention.
Good but could be better
REALLY needs to add CPP calculation for Canadian market. Self-employed CPP is very significant and the fact it’s not being accounted for seems like a huge oversight.
Super simple
Great app so far—love that it automatically tracks mileage too.
So far it’s ok
I had really high hopes, based on the reviews, that this app would be perfect for a small business owner in Canada. Sadly most of their features only apply to the USA. If the developers add integrations with Canadian Banks, and Canadian Provinces for taxes, I will change my rating to 5-stars. So disappointing since I would absolutely purchase the subscription if I could access all features.
Awesome!
This app is so helpful and takes away all of my stress of tracking my mileage and income and expenses. The reports it produces for whatever you need is amazing! The price is worth the features!
Not free
Auto tracking feature isn’t free.
