Great way to learn Catan
I lost continually to my adult kids until I started playing on this app. I learned the rules and began to win.
horrendous app
it always bugs out or is straight up broken. it randomly switches to dutch to try and reset the password. goes non responsive. hands down most broken app award winner.
Love this app but
I have been playing this game on my iPad for years and I love it. However, in the past year I’ve noticed that the game now constantly crashes. Like I can’t get through a single game without it crashing at least 2 or 3 times. I don’t have this problem with any other apps on my iPad. I’ve updated it, I’ve de/re-installed it, nothing seems to fix the problem. It’s a shame because I’ve slowly stopped playing the game out of frustration.
Glitchy
This app can be very frustrating. Logging in fails or just hangs far too often. It has skipped players, no dice roll just on to the next. In one game it glitched and my settlement had been changed to another player, right in the beginning. I ended up just having one of my picks. The other player had one of mine plus their two. It also doesn’t always give you your resource when the dice roll shows one of your numbers. I haven’t seen any updates so I doubt anyone is working on these issues. When things work well it’s decent. Update: new glitches. Skipped my turn completely, did not credit my use of the knight card, costing me a game, still freezing.
Very fun but Buggy and glitchy
So much room for improvement. They need to add ranked play match making. They need to add chat. The game now makes you sign in every single time which is inconvenient when you get booted and have to log back in. These are easy fixes. Game freezes and restarts a lot.
Awesome game
Love playing Catan. One issue is on my iPad you can’t see how many Development cards are left (icons cover the total) so I will do trades to buy one then find out there aren’t any available and are then left with cards I don’t want or need. Besides that it’s great.
Unplayable
The title says it all. I can no longer even start a game.
Relaxing play
I paid for this online game a few years ago but they locked me out of a few boards not sure why. Can’t see paying twice. I have all the box games and enjoy playing with family
Doesn’t work well
Many bugs and glitches. Doesn’t always display rankings at end of game, dice rolls are not random and the option menus do not consistently work.

I have enjoyed this game for years.
It’s great to pick this up and play a round, especially with my son. I haven’t had the same overwhelming sense of unfair dice rolls as other reviewers. Sure, the AI targets the human if the human is winning, but that’s normal game play. I like the design and function ability. It’s great to have AI to fill out 4 players. Great game.
Unfair Dice Role
Please write better code for the dice role…..it is so far from random. I have played this game too much and the “lucky” anomalies that happen in favor of the AI are far too frequent to be random. I am big fan of Catan and I am at the point of deleting the App because it just isn’t an enjoyable experience to have the “AI” working against you time and time again in a way that just isn’t fair. Stop stacking the deck!
My best friend
I have been an avid Catan board game player for a long time. I congratulate the code writers for the iOS version, well done! Although there remain a few online bugs, I will remain an active participant for a long time. Thank you Spin adrift

Keeps crashing after 3-5 minutes
Weird non-functional screen
Sometimes after playing for 20-30 minutes the trade, build or card screens are only an outline or not at all visible. This is an older bug and should be fixed!
Well worth playing! Fun even with some quirks.
I've used this mobile game for years now, and it's still a lot of fun to play, even though it has some quirks. And I still recommend it.
Expansions Disappearing?
I have had access to and enjoyed this game for years and years. I also have all the expansion packs. Suddenly I can’t access Cities and Knights. What gives? I don’t want to have to go back to Catan Universe. This version is way more usable.

Good game, easy to use on iPad. Be prepared for freezes and bugs each game.

Long term bugs
Sure why they won’t fix this. For example at a certain point in the game you will not be able to see your cards. You have to exit out, continue game will send you the blank screen and reload the whole app

This game does not let you login and I have gone in circles trying to figure out how to add a friend yet it just reroutes me to log in and I had to verify my email and it flagged it as spam and made me active with clicking a link
Great adaptation / needs map generator for replayability
Really well done game. Yes, it crashes a lot, but as soon as it does something weird, close it out and restart it. Not a big deal. To me, it biggest flaw is a lack of new maps. There are so few and frankly I get sick of playing the same ones over and over. Fix that, and it’s a 5 star game.
Amazing rolls AI is stacked
Amazing how you can lose all resource's in two plays. Ai rolls 7, blocks your 8. Steals from you, next player plays knight steals from you, next player plays monopoly cards cleans out what is left. Then you roll an 8. And then next 3 rolls are 8. Just when you are about to win, someone plays 3 VP points. They must have unlimited of those and knight cards
Love it but…
I love this game! The only thing that I don’t love is…it crashes quite a bit while playing. Wish that could get fixed. Great game other than that!
Brilliant game
One of the few board games that translates to computer game just like playing in real time. Great speed and a wonderful brain work out. So many variations within the one app.
WHY IS IT GERMAN
Spent the last hour trying to just log in and it kept saying I already had an account WHICH I DONT and kept sending me sketchy emails with weird links. I finally got logged in and as I was trying to set up a game, I got logged out. IT ALSO KEEPS SWITCHING TO GERMAN

Good game but way too buggy
Gameplay is very close to the board game, but the app crashes way too much.
We absolutely love this game and would pay for it happily!
We have been playing this game for years, but clearly it has become a big “buggy” and could do with an update. However, we are grateful it is still available and will continue to play and enjoy it as long as it’s available. As a suggestion if you could update the code so it doesn’t glitch so much, we would be happy to free an upgrade fee or even a monthly fee. At the moment it needs us to sign in from scratch every time we play online, not a problem, but a new requirement. If you play a game with treasure, quite often when the AI player owns and lands on a treasure island it just spins and we have to end the game. We also both randomly on our iPads get disconnected from the game quite regularly for no apparent reason. Please please please update your coding and make lots of happy players even happier. By all means create a Subscription version to ensure you have the funds to motivate you so that it stays up to date. Many thanks
Not random it’s rigged
Even using stack it’s geared to go against you. If dice odds were weighted properly it would be better but it’s very rigged against you. Super frustrating. Not worth playing
Pretty good
I like the game but it often feels like the dice are against you. Could be my imagination and I have not bothered to actually track it…. Yet. But all in all runs smooth.
Very unrealistic and not fun to play
People have been complaining about the algorithm for this app for years, and it hasn’t gotten any better in all that time. I play Cities and Knights and the seafarers versions in real life and on this app, and this app is ridiculous. The number of wedding, saboteur, resource monopoly, deserter cards etc. is completely unrealistic. There are only so many of those cards in a real deck, and in a real game they come up infrequently. And, number of times you get robbed as soon as you acquire some assets is extremely improbable. There are games when I’ve been robbed three or four dice rolls in a row, with the bots moving the robber back and forth from one of my hexes to another one to another one etc. In a real game, the likelihood of losing a city at the start of the game because you haven’t been able to get a knight on the board is very low, and on the app it happens all the time. In fact, I’ve played games where every player lost their city the first time the barbarians attacked, which would be almost impossible in a real game. The developers should work on making the bots play a realistic game of Catan, instead of only being able to beat you by stealing all of your assets. It’s probably more work as far as coding goes, yet the game is still as unplayable as it was a few years ago. I’m uninstalling it and not playing it anymore. If you decide to actually work on fixing it let me know and I’ll try it again.

The AI knows what resources you have and knows what number will be rolled. Every time I get 2 points away from winning, all 3 AI turn against you, they won’t trade with you, they use knight cards against you, roll 7s like it’s an 8 or a 6, blocks the resource you need and then the game rolls 3 of that number right after. Don’t forget when you have a strat for sheep and you are on a sheep port, they play the monopoly card and take all your sheep.

Buggy
Good game faithful to the board game rules, but be prepared for several bugs per game. The most annoying bug occurs when the screen refuses to recognize your tap on a valid road segment that you want to build. This seems to happen when the segment is near the center or bottom center of the screen. Workaround is to force close the app and resume the game, which you may have to do a few times to be successful. The game also suddenly exits on occasion. At least it saves the game state so you can return by resuming.
Prefer this to Catan Universe
I came back to Catan HD after many years as I was getting increasingly frustrated playing against the AI’s on Catan Universe. I don’t do ‘online’ gaming [I’m 57 and female so it’s not really my ‘thang’, lol] ‘cause I just don’t want the hassle of other players letting me know I’m too slow: but now, some of the moves the AI’s make in CU are - as another reviewer noted - ‘not even a 5 year old would make’. I can play Catan HD for hours and often do … especially on plane journeys or lazy Sunday afternoons. It’s as close to playing the board game as you can get and I love it!
Developers took easy way out
Instead of having it be random when computer players play a knight card the developers took the easy way out and have the human players almost always targeted to be robbed. The game would be more enjoyable if the knight cards and moving of the robber when rolling a “7” was more random but I can always count on being the one robbed when playing against the computer. Makes what could be a fun gaming experience very frustrating.
Great I love playing against robots
This game is awesome I love being able to play whenever I want and I don’t need to convince my brother to play One thing that I would say is it will not let me login so I cannot play competitive but Catan is great online or off-line.
Keeps crashing
Keeps crashing in the middle of the game. I bought the first one it had this problem so bought this one thinking they fixed the bugs but they didn’t

I have played Catan universe and I feel that is a better simulation of Catan. As everyone else says, the dice feel rigged for the AI. AI get so many knight cards, anytime you roll a 7, the thief will be back on your resource the next turn. Then they will take turns stealing from you so you can’t build anything. Even when you are way down in points, you are still the main target. It is you against the combined forces of the AI. Not fun. Please return my money.
Great game,but….
Constantly kicks me out. Wish they would ad more expansion to classic/ HD Catan. Not a fan of universe
New version
This game is really fun to play. The older version had better graphics. They still haven’t fixed the reload issues half way through the game. You can lose a castle if you activate your knight before that happens. Still needs improvement and would be nice to have the option to use the older versions graphics.
CATAN - Game is Great / Quality of app could be better
This is a fun way to play CATAN. And inexpensive compared to the board game. The game play is exciting and authentic. However, the app has a couple of persistent glitches, especially with the development cards.
