Classic
Despite having known “child enthusiast” Bill Gates as a playable leader, it is a classic. Great game I often come back to. A little hard to pick up, it does take some time to fully grasp how all the systems and resources are connected but the tutorial is both helpful and entertaining. Plus there is a ton of challenges if you want to try something different. Devs clearly put a lot of effort into the game and it shows.
Fun but you can’t win
Not sure how it’s got 5 stars but the challenges and AI are impossible to beat.
Does the AI cheat?
Play this all the time on hard and it’s one of the toughest games. But I am amazed how often Dark Ages comes up when you are about to play a government for example. I’ve learned to just expect things like that all game long. Similarly if you build the wonder that lets you get an island without having one in your hand, you probably will never draw one. Little behind on military, don’t count on ever drawing a military tactic card. Maybe it’s just chance but it’s surprising. And when you attack the AI their hands seem stacked with good military tactics to defend. Every now and then I delete it because it seems like blatant cheating but I come back to it.
Lots of freezing recently!
App has always been amazing but just recently it starting freezing on me frequently. Often when I was ending my turn, it would freeze and I’d be forced to hard reset and re-do my turn. This never happened to me over months of owning the app. I’m wondering if the recent update for “bug fixes” actually caused more problems than they fixed? This was a perfect app before but it is very irritating to play right now. It freezes during pretty much every turn I take.

…Wenn ich nicht, trotz leichtesten Schwierigkeitsgrad, nahe zu jedes Spiel verlieren würde. Im Internet fand ich dazu keine Abhilfe, sondern eher Bestätigung. Hab es dann nach ca. 20 Spielen aufgegeben. (Das Ganze fand im Jahr als es rauskam statt. Seitdem habe ich mich nicht mehr rangewagt).

The game worked well until the most recent updates and now my game runs particularly slow when registering military card resolutions.. generally has become more buggy as well… :(
Schönes Kartenspiel mit einer kleinen Schwäche
Through the Ages ist ein wunderbares Kartenspiel und nach über 550 gespielten Spielen inklusive der Erweiterung würde ich sagen, es hat mich gecatcht. Was gefällt mir gut: Das Spiel ist in einer simplen Kartenspieloptik mit tollen Illustrationen sehr schön aufgemacht und bietet mit der herausfordernden Spielmechanik mit einer Vielzahl an Karten und unterschiedlichen Taktiken immer wieder aufs neue Spaß. So bleibt das Spiel auf sehr lange Zeit interessant und hat einen enormen Wiederspielwert. Das kleine signifikante Manko: Wie alle Einsteiger bin ich über die sagen wir "rudimentäre" Einführung in das Spiel gestolpert. Das Spiel nimmt einem viel ab, es braucht doch einige Zeit bis man das Spiel in seiner Tiefe verstanden hat. Lieder gibt es manchmal Berechnungsfehler, erwähnenswert ist für mich hier Nelson Mandela, bei dem die Berechnung bei Verwendung durch die KI zu funktionieren scheint, beim Spieler selbst scheint dies meist aber nicht der Fall zu sein… Das größte Manko für mich als Taktik Fan ist aber die Feststellung, Taktik und Spielverständnis < Glück… Ich spiele ausschließlich gegen die KI und irgendwie pendelt sich die Gewinnrate genau zur Spielerzahl ein xD Fazit: Wunderbares Kartenspiel mit dem kleinen Manko das mehr Fokus auf Glück als der Taktik zu liegen scheint (:

Keeps crashing with latest updates
Keeps crashing instantly making it useless. Older iOS iPads not supported but they CLAIM that they are. I will NOT get another IPad ever again.
Great Port of the Game! Batts Killer Though.
This is a well polished port of the board game. The local campaigns and the online matching is very well done. I am enjoying this game and loving it. Only issue is that it drains my batteries. Playing one game kills my phone’s battery by 30%, other board game ports like Terra and Agricola don’t even take 5%. Must be some way to optimize Through the Ages.
unplayable for years: Overheats iPhone
I’ve checked this app on iPhone 8 and SE gen 3. in less than 5 minutes each phone would heat up, necessitate closing the app . That is problematic for a game that takes 30+ min to play for many people. The high energy consumption drains the battery. Attempted to find out if my install was corrupted with the Developer, but seems to ignore this complaint from many users. Otherwise I would recommend this implementation of the game to anyone.
Freezing lately
Fantastic game and very fast to play usually but last few months and since most recent 2 iOS updates it’s been freezing mid game every game, sometimes even 3-4 times during a game.
Wonderful worlds
It’s wonderful to escape every morning on my phone to Through the Ages, where I can build the pyramids as well as play great people like Boudicca, Napoleon, and Nelson Mandela!
Great game
Love the challenge mode, however have to leave a 1 star due to it all comes down to luck on drawing war cards and cars distribution. You play ~20 minutes and then game gives you 0 war cards. Can’t be sure but stage 2 wonders pop almost always after your turn and you only get them if all AI passed it. If AI can take from you it will even if you aren’t the weakest player. Somewhat annoying too… all of this makes this game kind of 99% based on luck
Tutorial crash
Crashes about 20 minutes into the tutorial. At the same spot multiple times. When teaching about what the opponent does (Yellow guy). Disappointing for such a popular and well-rated app. EDIT: I have since played through full games against the AI and it has not crashed again so that’s great. Only crashes in tutorial. The game is a superb rendition of the tabletop version. It even includes an option to switch between “tabletop rules” and “digital rules” which are almost identical but give a couple of little tweaks. Very good app. 4 stars.

Cuts music volume 50%
Great game. However, right now, when I open the app, it cuts my music volume by 50%. Please fix!
Presentation Offset
I love this game. 5 stars regardless, but since this latest update, all the UI elements have been shifted in strange ways. The card row is set too far right, there is uncomfortable space to the right of the leader pictures below the card row, etc.
Crashes on Ipad multiple times when playing the scenarios
When trying to play the scenarios, the game just crashes mid-game and you lose all your progress. Some scenarios won't even start and will just crash. Will be requesting a refund.

Anspruchsvoll in jeder Beziehung
Das Spiel ist komplex - was mich persönlich begeistert. Die Einführung dauert lange und ist auch nicht ohne - allerdings sehr humorvoll gemacht 👍🏻 Leider gibt es danach keine weiteren Hilfen - ich denke das würde beispielsweise bei den leichten Herausforderunfen helfen schneller ins Spiel zu kommen… Was zu Punktabzug führt: das Spiel frisst den Akku regelrecht - und für mich ist eigentlich nicht ersichtlich weshalb. Grafisch ist das Spiel nicht so anspruchsvoll. Es kann also nur an einer schlechten Entwicklung liegen. Daher ziehe ich hier zwei Sterne ab. Bitte nachbessern damit man mit einer Akkuladung auch mehr Spiele schafft. (Selbst ein iPhone 14 Pro verliert ca. 30% pro Stunde spielen…) Antwort auf die Entwicklerantwort: auch die KI in anderen Spielen benötigt nicht so viel Energie. Ich verweise zB auf Viticulture, dass ich diese Tage ebenfalls ausprobiert habe. Ich denke das beide Seiten voneinander lernen könnten - vielleicht sollten sich die Entwickler mal intensiver unterhalten…

Fantastic board game, a lot of strategy ways to improve your Civilization. This game is absolutely number One on my board game list!
Online mode completely broken
After reading the excellent reviews I thought I’d give it a go and now wish I hadn’t. The Online mode is broken as it appears to be stuck in a perpetual loop to get you to agree to their terms of service and privacy policy agreement with no way to accept them. I’ve tried to contact the devs directly and had no reply and the Czech games forum reports the same issues for other people going back a month or two. There’s no appends to those thread by the devs so I can only assume they don’t monitor the conversations in technical support or don’t care. Avoid unless you want to immediately go through the hassle of refunding.

Change or heart review..
I had to change my review because I can't play on my cell data anymore because my provider is using Ipv6 instead of the old Ipv4... So yea I'm stock on waiting for Wi-Fi to play my turns all the time and it really pisses me off because there seems to be nothing done to fix this issue from the development team.

Fix the create game
It’s a great game and I want to give it 5 stars. But until u guys fix the new game creation I’m giving it a one star so it gets noticed. For other multi player games if u want to actually have a rematch with the same players there is a button for that. Not to watch the entire game again but play with the same folk again. You guys need to fix this. Come up with an easier way to play again with your friends.
Solid game
Definitely worth getting this game especially if you are familiar with the actual board game. Only issue and reason for not giving 5 stars is the app won’t send any notification of any in game updates such as it being my turn or resolving certain situation in a game making it hard to tell when and when not to take your turn
Missing a Feature
The port to iOS is excellent, however it's missing the feature to pass and play with the possibility to add a bot for a third and/or fourth player. Almost every other boardgame port to iOS include this feature so it is disapointing that an app of this quality couldn't integrate it ...

The major flaw with the board game is that you can completely mess up for someone else, and thus making it impossible for them to catch up or even have a remote chance of winning. When playing with humans, most people understand that you should try to vary who you mess up, and focus on the person in the lead when possible. The AI has no concept of this, or the concept of having a fun game, so if it gets in a good hit on you, it will just continue hammering, destroying the game completely. If you need to rage quit more than once per five games, the game is just not enjoyable, which sadly is the case here. With a better AI, an AI that understands that it should focus on the person who is leading and which understands what makes a game fun this could’ve been really fun, but sadly this is not the case.
Fun but buggy
It's a good game - scratches my Civilization itch. But I've found online play to be very buggy and crashy. Sometimes a window comes up reporting bugs and asking you to message the problem to developers. Other times it just freezes. Bugs seem to be becoming more common. Possibly malware attached to. Since installing, my browser often redirects me to some spurious scam my YouTube survey.

Can’t paste password
I love the game, and this is a really impressive implementation of a fantastic board game. However, I am unable to create an account due to not being able to paste a password into the create account form. In the modern age of password security this is a bad practice as it removes my ability to create a good and unique password (via a password manager). If this was fixed, my rating for this game would easily be 5 stars.

AI on easy is still impossible
Accomplished strategy PC player. AI on easy is still way too hard. Haven’t won a single game in three hours. Getting a refund. Very frustrating.
Not the rules I remember
I play the original imbalanced version. Though I recognize this to be an improvement, I have yet to see if I will enjoy this. Lots of changes to cards I was not aware of made it so I had to click on everything to read what it does for sure. I think I will enjoy it soon, but I have to see if wars no longer exist. If not this game is not for me!
Excellent port of the brilliant board game
Plays quickly and well, interface is user friendly and forgiving. Great implementation. (Edited 14 Oct 17: knocked two stars off because upgrade patch continually crashes the game during challenges part way through game in progress. Have screen shot of crash)
