Tutorial is really well put together to help new players quickly learn the rules of the game and experienced players lean the quirks of the app
Room for Improvement
This may be a great game for someone who has played the board version, but for a newbie I cannot recommend it. The tutorial is skimpy, and the game rules section is far from clear on a number of items, not to mention the fact that it takes a bunch of clicks to get to it whereas it should be just one click. There appear to be game mechanics that occur behind the scenes with zero explanation and prevent a player from completing actions that they expect to be able to. Very frustrating. On the plus side, the visuals appeal of the board and cards is very nice.

This game offers a unique experience for every gameplay with many different ways to approach strategy and variable components to monitor throughout. There is definitely a learning curve, but it is worth the time investment for a game that doesn’t start to feel like it’s on repeat after a few plays. I have both the physical and app version. The app version makes learning much easier because it blocks unqualified moves (such as not enough money or action power for a particular move) and highlights what you can do (such as the additional cost for playing an animal from the display). These details are more challenging to monitor on the physical board game. The game is highly customizable with many offline solo options and either async or real-time online options. There are a few points for improvement as development continues. 1- First and foremost… PLEASE ADD THE MARINE EXPANSION PACK TO THE IOS APP!!! 2- Also, the chat function is very handy, but you cannot see what you are typing beyond the initial line which can make it challenging to use, especially because the typing field is so tiny to begin with. It would be very nice if this could pop out into a separate maneuverable window or at least expand to show your full message in the typing field like a text message bubble would on any smart phone. 3- There is also a culture of players that like to go at warp speed, which is fun sometimes, other times a bit frustrating. It would be nice if the time per turn was an additional customizable component. This would likely mitigate some tensions for those who think a little longer and those who want to whip through turns at the speed of light. 4- Finally, the app does crash sometimes, has somewhat long loading times, and drains my phone/tablet battery pretty quickly. I imagine that operating such a detailed game does require significant power but the freezing during online games can be disruptive and sometimes kick you out of the game if you can’t reload quickly enough. For asynchronous games, if I open a different app on my phone with this game still up in the background, when I return to it I have to close it out and reopen it for it to register my opponents moves and allow me to take my turn. So it does not really run in the background which makes turn taking pretty inefficient. Overall, these issues don’t impede gameplay so significantly that it curbs my desire to play, it is still very enjoyable, but solutions would be nice if possible! Creative suggestion… it would be really cool to have animal facts on the cards like we see in some other animal/nature games. Even cooler if they can somehow correlate with the animal’s power in the game. I have a degree in Wildlife Biology so I see a lot of opportunities for this in the card deck. Might even be nice to see an icon or animation of what animal is in which enclosure for easier scanning and engaging UI. Super cool game, highly recommend!!

Errors
I really like playing this game, however, there are errors within this app. When placing an animal with the appropriate partnership zoo, the reduction in price (-3) is not validated by the game. Also, certain conditions on the cards are not recognized and applied in this digital game.
Full of bugs
The game has bugs including not keeping track of available places to build. It even let me build on top of other buildings. Other than those sort of things happening, the game is great. It’s just not playable.
Crashes all the time
For an app I paid for, I would expect it not to crash every game. Disappointed , but 3 stars for a great game!

Bugged and unplayable
I cant view/inspect any of my cards on my 16 pro max. This breaks the game and makes it unplayable. You tap on a card and it doesnt do anything

Needs Refinement
Overall this adaption is good, but the app is still quite buggy and could use some more refinement. The version on Board Game Arena is far superior to this app should be what these developers should strive for. I report issues, but it sometimes feels like I’m a tester more than a user considering how often I run into issues. Some bugs include: score not being calculated properly, cards not leaving hand when they should, actions not redeeming when they should and also when they shouldn’t, inaccurate workers available. Some annoyances across new and old devices include: drains battery like crazy (in comparison BGA has almost no impact), freezes on new and old devices, only saves current game, no end game stats, inconsistent undo button, placing enclosures sometimes encounters issues, touch area can get stuck in different area and you cannot resume action, would rather less animation for a smoother and more easy navigable experience (it’s so difficult to check on other tables while playing) The good: still a good overall adaptation, fun challenge modes (would love more!), seems to auto save often which helps for freezes/crashes, an okay layout considering how much needs to be displayed in this game, doesn’t need internet connectivity and can play against computer opponents
There may well be a great game in here but…
It’s really complex, the tutorial is pants (very quick and superficial) and I can’t find a written rules listing. It may be there but there are a lot of buttons to press. So,off to the internet. If you buy this game, it’s gonna take a while and a lot of effort before you have a clue.

Beautiful but..
This game is so complicated that it makes Magic The gathering look like child’s play. When you spend more time closing windows that obscure the play field, you know there’s a problem. How anyone could play this on the phone is beyond me, and I was using an iPad. Every time you think you understand something more details are added that look like somebody just thought them up and said oh “that sounds good.” I want my games to be fun and enjoyable not complicated and frustrating. I had to ask for a refund on this one. And I rarely ask for refunds on any of my apps. I’ve played many Dire wolf games and most of them are great. This one needs a little less minutia.
Great game!
I love this game and this is a very excellent digital implementation. I only have it four stars because the game does get better with the Marine Worlds expansion. As soon as Dire Wolf releases that expansion I’ll bump it up to five stars. Can’t wait!
Crash in tutorial 3
The tutorial 3 is really a disaster. As a first time player you tried to play the best and it took more than 1 hour, and then it crashed, no hand cards show and cannot do anything just stuck in the cards action. Because you cannot save so once you exit you lose everything. Good implementation but this ruined everything, especially consider that’s the first step for beginners.

When you have a flipped association card, the game does not let you do two actions for the value of X.

Loses connection a lot
Awesome game but every time I open the app to an async game already loaded it spins for thirty secs and then errors out. Repro: open async game, close app, open app, wait.

UI Issue
After the recent update if you click on cards it doesn’t show you the full card overlay on screen. Similar with the actions, doesn’t show you the overlay which shows what each action does. This needs to be patched very soon. At this moment you are playing without knowing what each card does. The game is unplayable with this
Pretty good?
I’m using the app to learn the game instead of buying the physical board game. The tutorial was so painful that I skipped tutorials 2 and 3. Go watch Youtube instead. The game seems pretty good, but there are definitely times when the game won’t allow me to do something I’m almost certain is legal.
Generally, just. ok and buggy
When the game doesn’t glitch, it plays OK. AI does some generally suboptimal play to just interfere with players, such as one ai opponent needlessly getting cards or sponsoring for cash, just so the next ai can force the break, especially if you are over the card limit. The real issue is random bugs. Example is situation where it let me keep cards over the limit, aaaannnd then also never let me access the cards. A two bugs for the price of one. Also, it frequently (1 x for ~3 games) won’t let you do valid actions. Especially when you get extra actions. Could I provide more specifics? No. After all, they don’t pay me to test their products and, frankly, it is easier to resign and restart or just play solo on board game arena. Shame, because the app looks pretty. And, at least, when not glitching, it plays better than just normal solo. Hopefully they will sort stuff out quickly.
Great Game, Flawed App
The game crashes a lot. Not a big deal since I can reopen and it picks up where it left off. A bigger problem is that I encountered a bug several times where the app prompts me to “Resolve your effects”, but offers no options to resolve. This happened most recently while stopped at the marker which instructs me to discard one final scoring card. However, the window to allow me to select a card was never displayed. I tried toggling all the windows, clicking on the final scoring cards themselves, reverting my turn then closing the app then reopening and trying again. Nothing worked. I was dependent on the game opening the correct window but it never did and I had to abort the game.

Very buggy
Ran into some bugs that were bad enough for me to give up and call it quits. One of my actions would disappear, cards would get stuck in my hand and be unplayable, you are forced to release animals from the smallest exhibit regardless of where you played them originally and some minor stuff like tooltips were wrong. Might be worth picking up if they decide to fix these things someday. For now just save yourself a headache and play on BGA.
Well designed digital implementation
Love the game so far, my only wish is that some of the font, icons, and symbols could be larger. Outside of that it’s a wonderful digital version of such a great game. Well done!

Too small to read
I LOVE the board game, but this version is completely unusable for me. Make so cards so they can be magnified in ANY way, click to zoom, pinch to zoom… Anything.
Fun and addictive
I love the app and play a lot. Please bring in expansions and extra boards like the ones on Board Game Arena. One bug I’ve noticed is that when I am allowed to pay to play a sponsor card from my hand, as one of the bonuses for the conservation project, I am not specifically prompted to do that during the tea break and I never actually get to use that ability. Also there are times when I’m choosing a card and the board or the association area is covered up and you can’t hide the cards to check the board or the association area to make sure you’re getting a card consistent with your goals. That’s specifically on the phone which is a small screen. Thanks, great game overall.
Constant crashing
Hopefully this gets fixed as I love the idea of this app but it continuously crashes and is currently unplayable for me on iPad

Super jeux mais très mauvais portage
Ark nova est un de mes jeux de société préféré et je suis ravi de le voir sur iOS, mais le jeux est bien trop gourmand (30% de ma batterie sur une partie) et bien trop lent, sans compter les plantages. Vraiment dommage.
Great implementation, but…
The app is a battery hog. Most game apps, even when played online, will last four or even six games before the battery warning comes up. With this implementation of Ark Nova, it barely makes two. Not an app to play on the move unless you have a decent external battery, and when at home, keep a charging cable handy. Also, wait for the Marine expansion and the additional player maps. The game has much more variety with both of these added.
Great implementation though some bugs
The game plays well and sound design is great. Feels reactive when pressing the buttons and very satisfying there are a few strange bug like behaviors, such as screens not appearing when they’re supposed to or they appear after you’ve pressed a different button. It’s also frustrating to have the overlays get in the way when you’re trying to look at what you have in your zoo already but overall it’s a really great implementation of the game.
Solid effort but inferior
I love Ark Nova, and play a lot with friends on Board Game Arena. I don’t mind the smaller screen size, that’s expected for mobile app. However, the adaptation has a surprising number of bugs, a few game-breaking. For many issues, you must quit and restart to reset the interface because icons or effects will disappear or happen without notice. I must’ve submitted a half dozen bugs via feedback by now, too tired to record them all. The BGA adaptation remains superior in all aspects. Hopefully, Dire Wolf will patch regularly. While I like the game, I’m a little disappointed considering the developer’s history. Will update review after patches.

Da könnte man die Ansicht vergrössern… (Abgestürzt ists auch…) Kampagne zu schwer. ZB Reptilien Teil 2 (so ein Schwachsinn!) Oder die Giftkampagne: Quarantänekarte wirkt nicht, so ein Schwachsinn!

Great App
Absolutely love the board game and was excited to see an app version available. I’m impressed with the UI, especially since there are so many pieces to fit on a small screen. I’d love to see the marine world expansion in the future since it has some great mechanics.
Pretty great
This game is pretty complicated and I think they did a good job making the app as simple as it could be, given all the components. I think there’s some wasted real estate on iPad (below your opponent’s player info) and I find the board game tracks a little clunky and hard to read. Some graphics in the game also don’t appear to be hi-res, which is surprising. My biggest and actual complaint is that the AI player is way, way too strong. I rarely win on a Medium game. My boyfriend can attest to the same experience. Not very balanced.
Worse Than BoardGameArena Version
Needs a lot of work. Too much wasted space on iPad and iPhone. The 3D board view adds nothing and is distracting. All the blue glitter animations should be removed. Uses versions of end game cards that are outdated. AI hard is quite easy. The fact that you can’t see all of your board and the cards at the same time is inexcusable. Target size for actions and other UI elements are too small. Title of end game cards not displayed in minimized version even though there is plenty of space. Rotation controls are backwards. Right hand control should be clockwise rotation.
Not as good as BGA
This version is very poor compared to the Board Game Arena implementation.
