A well implemented board game
I wish other board game adaptations were more like this. Zooming in to see card text on small phones works smoothly. Every action that doesn’t reveal new information has an undo option, solving the challenges of a small interface. The whole game is bug-free in solo play against AI, which is how I usually play it. I just wish we could get even more difficult AI.
Poor interface limits playability
Played this game constantly until landscape UI came out. Bigger phones over the last few years make the experience slightly better but it’s still much harder to see things than it used to be. This UI is map for a PC or IPad and is not mobile focused. Results speak for themselves. There are only about 20 open game’s, rarely do they get filled. On one hand, I’m grateful/surprised this game is even still supported. But when I play it’s a struggle to play efficiently. I guess it only gets updates because it’s consistent with other platforms, but I kinda wish it weren’t here to taunt me anymore. This game used to be portrait. The game board and every individual card in the game is portrait, so this made sense. But not we have to view it all on landscape forcing you to zoom in on everything.
Betrayal!
One of the best card-based iOS games, bar none. The game rules, the engine, the artwork and music… this is a joy to play. But it could be a little better - it had portrait mode many years ago, and would be nice to have portrait mode again - the card “Inevitable Betrayal” puts the AI into a betrayal spiral, each of them playing the card and passing it on to one another, effectively removing all other intrigue cards from the game and keeping the AI who’s holding it from taking better actions. Please fix this behaviour, either by lowering the desirability of playing that card or allowing us the option of playing without it (or some other fix) Otherwise, easily one of my three favourite mobile games!
Updates never fix notification issues
The game remains great to play, but don’t count on receiving notifications for your turn if you’re an android player. The game receives updates pretty often, but never addresses this. The developer knows this is an issue, yet never addresses it.
Cant add AI to online game
Annoying that you can’t add AI to online games. It’s not as fun with only 2 payers and I don’t want to play with random people

We love this game. what are the things we love about? It is that we don’t have to get all of the pieces out for the actual board game when we use it on the iPad. And it keeps track of our progress and the abilities our cards give us without us having to remember for ourselves. convenience and fun!
First update in 3 years makes game worse
I’ve been playing this game for the last 5+ years regularly on an iPhone mini. I think it has its flaws (completely resetting if you look at a phone notification, I’ve had friends unable to create new accounts, game notification badge indicators disappearing when you open the app but don’t take a turn) but was otherwise an amazing game. Which leads me to: I’m not sure why the developer has changed the user interface on the game instead of fixing those core bugs. I can no longer see my intrigue cards without tapping on them and the quest cards no longer show the plot effect without tapping either (and are honestly overwhelmingly large now). The changes to quests seem nice for someone with vision issues, but make the game harder to play for me. Please either make these changes a setting that users can opt into or revert them, thank you!
Great Game, With One Request
Love this adaptation of the board game! Do have one request that would really tie into the D&D realm. Would love a section in the settings or main menu that gives the lore and history of Waterdeep, or in the card section of the main menu have each card have a lore summary/history about it. Hope that makes sense and thanks!
Unplayable in Landscape
On an iPhone 12 Pro Max, the text in this game is unreadable in the standard landscape format. There's no option to modify the UI, the text size, or the orientation. Sad too, because it looks like this game would be fun to play.

Update the darn app for all the money you made from it please, just kee it playable for new devices soon it will drop support and what we’re gonna do look at our purchases and reminiscent?
It’s Waterdeep
Game is still fun. I have purchased all the expansions but find myself enjoying the base game the most. Playing with AI gets a little repetitive but gameplay is good.
Fix notifications in iOS 26
Since updating to iOS 26, this game has no options for notifications. Please fix.
Notifications simply don't...
Good game, been playing constantly for years. Agree with the others that the Landscape board was not an improvement. But what kills me is that the Notifications simply don't work. Yes, it annoys me that once a game ends I get no notification, and it disappears entirely from the active games, so I have to go hunting for it- but the app being unable to simply notify a player it is their turn is the worst. We have to maintain a chat on Signal just to update each other on whose turn it is now. Speaks well to the game that we still play constantly. I have full faith this can be fixed, so please do.
Bad UI
The underlying board game is good. The UI of this app is not good. It does not scale well for small screens; things are hard to read. There is no portrait mode. Grabbing items to drag them is unresponsive, so you need to tap about three times, or tap and hold your finger on the pawn for about 3 seconds before the game registers. Dragging objects should not be required; a simple two-tap interface would be better for phones. Sometimes, items will get launched off the screen, and then you just have to wait a literal minute for it to wander back and settle on the space you selected, unable to do anything in the meantime.

We love this game
This is our favorite game and we play it all the time. Now that we use the app, it is hard to go back to the board game, which is both a good and bad thing… but it gives us a great option for a faster game without having to manually collect and setup all the pieces. I think are some old reviews on here about an update that was buggy, but that is no longer the case imo
purely luck and doesn’t work right
this game is mostly luck (i.e. drawing cards). Not to mention, one of the cards asks to return an assigned agent and reassigned it but it doesn’t let me pick the agent; i tried dragging the meepo back and clicking on different meepo but it doesn’t work. overall, pretty boring game, i would skip!
Great game
Like new interface for iPad. Disappointed to have expansions I paid for disappear. Will not repurchase them. Overall good game but playtek needs to correct lost expansions, restore purchase does not solve problem.
Terrible implementation
The original implementation of this game was infinitely better. This mew version is buggy. The controls are so difficult on a small screen. The game doesn't always calculate the end score correctly. Its just bad.
New update 2021 issue
The new update removed my expansions purchases. So I have buy it again? That seems sus. Can we fix this please?
Great game, great replay ability.
Played this game for years when need some games I can drop out off at a moments notice and pick up later. Enjoy the adons. For me it’s a solo game. Ai best to play several at different levels. Relaxing. PvP is too slow so don’t expect that.
Constant Network Connection Lost
This is nearly unplayable online. If I don’t complete my move in less than 10 seconds I almost always get the message “Network Connection Lost”
Much needed UI update
Came back to the game recently and was very surprised that the UI has been overhauled and is back to landscape mode. The old UI was really bad and I’m very glad that it’s gone now.
Hmmm
I purchased this game 2 months ago. Had all the expansions included. I really enjoyed it, until last week when it was updated and now I only have the basic game and am prompted to pay and additional fee for each expansion. Not cool!!! Rating due to that fact, otherwise the app and game itself are awesome
How is it that I am down points in the middle of game?
I have three completed quests equaling 37 points but only show 9 points in the middle of round 6? I love the game and am unsure of where to send this question to?

Good but needs AI players For Online
I really like the game but wish they would add an option to add AI players in onl8ne multiplayer for those times when you don’t have a full group of players.
Lost access to expansions
When I originally purchased the game one of the things that sold me on it was that it came with the expansions. Having played the original I knew that without them the game was pretty boring. After the most recent update the expansions went away. When I submitted a ticket I was told that getting the expansions with the original game was “a bug” that had been fixed. Just know that if you buy the game you’re going to need to spend another 4 bucks to get a decent game.
Great game, needs update for iPhone X
On the standard-sized iPhone X and iPhone XS, the game is currently scaled for the Plus form factor, making on-screen elements uncomfortably small.
Fun of the Game Overshadows UI Issues
I was lucky to have come to the game late, but I did play it in the portrait orientation. I think if you pay attention to your hand and the game it’s a non issue. I think this game is a blast.
Cannot login to play
Downloaded, created a login with playdek, freezes every time I try to login. Extremely frustrating.
Fun, fairly easy to learn board game with depth.
For a game with some depth this is a relatively easy game to learn and a fairly simple concept which I like. The fantasy theme is really just an excuse to have some nice illustrations and text which is fair enough but anyone who is expecting an adventure type game might be disappointed. It’s really about collecting coloured cubes to complete the requirements of the cards that you pick up in the course of the game. It’s quite tactical and over time and from searching online I’ve developed some good strategies. It’s satisfying to see my scores improve however, no matter how much my score improves by even the “Simple” AI always beats me by about fifty points so I have never actually come close to winning a game. Still, it is fun and I keep going back to try out new strategies. I’m sure if I am ever able to beat the AI then I’ll feel the need to splash out on the expansions too. Just won my first game an hour or so after posting the above review. Very satisfying.
Terribly long lag since update
Long long lagging when playing against AI since update 2 days ago. AI opponents take forever to complete their turn.??
Please change view back
This is a 5 star app but the change of view to landscape in this new version is really upsetting. I actually can no longer play it because the layout/view makes me dizzy after playing for more than 15 minutes. Please allow landscape view in next update (and 2D images would be great to). The old view was perfect and didn’t make me dizzy at all.
Didn’t like it at first but now I think it’s great!
It seemed weird that a Dungeons & Dragons game didn’t feature you fighting in combat directly. But this game has grown on me. It’s a “euro” style boardgame that’s digitized so you can play solo against AI opponents. I enjoy playing the role of a cunning lord trying to gain power and influence in a city against other lords, using adventurers as a kind of weird “human currency” to achieve quests. I find it much more fun than playing chess to while away time when I am waiting or just want to exercise my mind.
Game is broken on iPhone SE
Practically impossible to drag your worker/agent onto the game board. Bummer because it used to be a pretty fun game.
Love this game
I’ve only jut downloaded it. The landscape orientation doesn’t bother me at all as I have never played it in portrait mode. It’s easy to learn and great fun to play. My only gripe is that there is no one online to play. I hope this changes as I download board games specifically to play online
A classic game....mostly ruined.
Same Waterdeep from ages past.... but they stole portrait mode. This game was made for portrait mode. Portrait mode is perfection. Now we have mediocrity. Contrast to a game like Ticket to Ride and see the genius and utility of portrait mode; a thing of beauty and symmetry on the iPad. Buy this game if you like Waterdeep and can snag it for $1....But beware, you will still lament the loss of portrait mode.
Update has problems
While the update looks better, AI is faster and some of the gameplay operation are an improvement, there are two major flaws: 1. Unless I am connected to the internet, I can’t play with the expansions. Game won’t let me start or continue games involving expansions while I am on the subway with no connectivity. 2. As noted by others, the sideways interface is nice, but the inability to see your cards or opponent’s without covering the placement spaces is a huge downgrade in interface, making each move require way more clicks than necessary. Game was great, but is only fair to good now.
New update slowed down game
The latest update has made the AI turns intolerably slow. The game is no longer playable. Please fix this

ONE LAST FAVOUR
This has to be the most enjoyable games on the store. Thank you for updating to work on 64bit and the continued support to those who have purchased both this and the IAPs as well, which add so much more depth to the game. Whilst the game is deserving of 5 stars, the issue with landscape mode, whilst not an issue on iPad, can be frustrating on iPhones and being able to manually switch between iPhone (portrait) and iPad (landscape) would be appreciated. Understand that this would mean additional patching, but if you considered this then you would have a happy player base. Thanks PlayDek
Was a favorite…
until they removed all support for playing this game in portrait mode. I just don’t enjoy it any more. I figured they would see the error of their ways, but nope. Developers don’t care that it’s junk now, because there’s cross-platform multiplayer! 🙄
New version woes
I love this game but this new version now has me feeling somewhat disappointed and frustrated. Playing the game with my phone sideways is good and all, but why take away the option to play with the phone upright, you know, so I don't need two hands to always secure my phone?
One of the best
This is not a 3.1 star implementation of a board game (avg rating as I write this)…it’s a 5 star implementation. I get it’s not great on iPhones, but it rocks on the iPad, in particular for multiplayer. Other player actions are always very clear. The UI is sharp. Graphics are spot-on. If you like the board game, buy the app.
Unplayable
Letters are too small to read on iPhone. Waste of money. I was really looking forward to this. So disappointing.
AI SO slow
This game would be 5 stars (I really love it!) but the AI is painfully slow. My ipad has locked itself up in between turns whilst I wait. It wasn't always this slow, if they could correct this it would be 5 stars for sure!
Frustrating UI
The app lets you play the game, and that’s great. But the user interface is surprisingly terrible, as if the author set out to make the worst UI on the iOS store. * on the game select screen, buttons are rendered *on top of* other UI elements making it impossible to read the text underneath or tap buttons that are now obscured from view * when ingame, all of the custom buildings are clustered *on top of each other* huddled in a tiny column on the right side of the screen, while giant swaths of unused screen real estate are left wide open on the left side of the screen * when a game finishes, it disappears. It doesn’t tell you who won or who lost. You have to dig into inactive games in order to find any stats about the game you just finished playing Despite the developers’ successful attempt at making the most frustratingly-difficult app on the iOS store, it does allow you to successfully play a game of Waterdeep so at least that’s something.
Update is brutal
Great game, unfortunately latest update slowed it down considerably with animations, and cluttered the user interface.
