- App crashes frequently on certain actions
- Support never actually helps with issues
- Auto-renews subscription without warning you
perfect app for a newspaper!
clean, beautiful ui, easy to use, clear font, not laggy at all. a modern experience to the classic newspaper!
Not great
Beware— I got the yearly subscription and barely used it because the journalism is subpar and the content generated just isn’t great. If you do get the subscription, however, you’ll want to cancel your subscription immediately—otherwise they will auto-charge you a year from the date that you first started for another year. No updates or warnings that you were about to get charged.
Works ok
Works ok. A clear bug is found in the games section. If you pick a specific level of hardness in sudoku, you can’t leave that level and work on a different level of the same type of game.
Poor execution
The ‘home’ screens and tabs leave out a significant number of articles and keep very old articles up for a long time. The enewspaper screen displays all articles like a traditional paper(mostly simple text), but often formatted poorly. Like an afterthought. Shared links from the enewspaper don’t carry the LATimes name or branding. Compared to any other newspaper’s app, this is far behind.
Games archive inconvient
You have to hit “load more” over and over and over again viewing one week at a time to get back to crosswords you haven’t done before. It’s irritating. I’m trying to go back to February and it takes so long. Please come up with a better system where you can select specific dates, maybe a month by month view or something like NYT
Sunday paper
I subscribed to get the Sunday paper delivered but guess I’m getting daily digital too & paying a little than I thought just for Sunday edition. When I contacted customer service to ask about charges was told I don’t have an account. How odd. Today’s email from subscription services said they weren’t able to charge my card. Guess if they get too wonky I will cancel
Irrelevant
Stopped using for Dodger news a while ago. Not paying for biased regular news reporting. Now they’re charging for playing free mini crossword game so just deleted this trash. Get a clue LA Times.
Good not great
I like the LA Times but I find their interface can still be a bit more user friendly.
Paywalled games
Is there any particular reason why Google play users get full access to the games, but apple users have to pay for a full priced subscription?
Doesn’t work 20% of the time
Recently when I’ve been using it, I get a message that shows “Please try later” and now news populates. Happens a few times a week. I just have to wait a few hours and try again. Restarting the app doesn’t help.
Crosswords
Cool
Nonfunctional
For a number of years my wife and I have read the LA Times digital via the app. However, lately using the latest version, the articles headlines appear, yet when you attempt to open any article, the app freezes. I use an iPhone 15 pro with updated OIS. And there don’t appear to be any fixes available at the App Store.
Era buena
Era una excelente app hasta que la actualizaron y la app no se abre
A lot of work to find the day’s news
The LA Times makes it is very difficult to read the day’s news on their digital app. I subscribe to and read several major newspapers digitally. NYT and WaPo make it easy to read the days news - you can go to “latest (or equivalent) or a section. Or select the eNewspaper, choose an article, and the app takes you to that article. On the LA Times, the eNewspaper is an image of the print newspaper with no links to articles - you enlarge each image to read the article. “Top News” seems to cover a week. First couple articles are from the day, and then you get articles from previous days. Great if you want an overview of the week, but not for the day’s news. The same is true of all sections. The only way to see the daily paper is to read the newspaper or search the articles you find on the eNewspaper.
Delete downloaded papers
How does one go about deleting papers that have been downloaded? I don’t see any option anywhere for doing this.
Latmes
I love the LA Times app because it gives you updates every two or three minutes of breaking news and also you can read the digital paper through the app
Republican propaganda
Garbage news. GOP propaganda. Terrible how they’ve destroyed this paper. I regret my $1 subscription.
Greg-Australia
Looks fine-informative, up to date and no bugs!
Still can’t tap to view articles.
I still can’t tap to view articles. After informing customer services many months ago, I still can’t tap to view articles in the current edition of the e-paper all the time; sometimes it works but mostly no. I can tap to view archived editions but not the current edition. Why even have the mobile app if it doesn’t work as advertised.
E-newspaper gripes
Tapping an article to read it full screen often doesn’t work. Sometimes whole sections of the newspaper are missing in the per-article view. The layout in portrait mode is poor, with the home bar and another strip of space above it leaving a letterbox view of the article. Make the home bar disappear similar to web browsers
LA Times
Great reading
Can’t open articles
I’m still unable to open individual articles from the eNewspaper. It works from a browser. The app is pointless without this feature.
Fast and easy
Almost everything is nice, except sharing to twitter or to facebook makes it crash. Await for bug fix please.
Needs tech update
Please update app tech. Current version is dark ages - Electronic version of daily paper allows only read page by page, without hyperlink to the story. I like reading the entire story without flipping the pages. What is the underlying reason not to use the hyperlink to open the story from the daily e-version?
Just eh
The search function is really limited and bad. Even if you have exact headline sometimes articles are just not there. Furthermore, there isn’t an “open in app” button on the mobile site version of any articles. These two things combined make reading a story/article I see mentioned or linked to outside of the app basically impossible. Great reporters and pieces, just wish the app was better
It’s very infuence
Thank you
Pay wall
All games require a subscription. Deleted the app. $16 a month is grossly overpriced and not a good model.
mr
good
Good but…
The app works fine but it was taking up 8 gigs on my iPad. How can that be? That’s enough space for 4 two hour movies! You’d be better off going to the website to view the e-newspaper. If space is a concern on your iPhone or iPad look at this app to see if it’s taking up a lot of space.
Photos fade
I’ve read LATimes for decades and have great appreciation for the paper. Many color photos fade after about 1 sec. I sent a video to customer support but no help. They say they don’t have other reports but I see the same complaint in comments. It’s distracting and annoying.
Frederique
Love this app
App Doesn’t Work On My iPhone
Times app doesn’t work on my iPhone. I can’t tap and read articles. I don’t know what the problem is. I have complained to the LA. Times tech support numerous times but the problem has never been resolved.
Add Comments
Give subscribers a chance to add public comments to articles, similar to New York Times.
Gray pictures
I have been writing emails to the support staff for this app for multiple days now. I really they must have outsourced their tech support to a group of people who don’t actually use the app. The problem is that most pictures on the enewspaper load twice and become gray and washed out. I have been trying to explain this problem to them but they don’t seem to get it. They have asked me to upgrade the app but I already have the latest version available. The version they are quoting me is version 5. something but the latest app store version is at 6. something.
good
good. very good. i read every morning..
Yesterday’s news
The online edition is a joke. Today’s top news story is a 2-day old story. They just reshuffle articles that have been published for days. Im switching to The Washington Post.
Ver 4.1 crushes by clicking link
Clicking a link makes the app crush. I have never experienced this issue before. Previous version was OK. My iPod touch runs on iOS 8.4.1.
Cannot choose reader view or print
In the LA Times app, the quick view articles on the home screen do not allow you to choose the iPhone reader view or print. Being able to easily print articles I want to keep is important to me. I also like the iPhone reader view. The app allows you to do those things in the e-newspaper view. If you exit the app and access the site from the web those options become available for the quick view articles.
LAX
Información oportuna, diseño estilizado, vinculación a redes sociales y selección del tipo de fuente. Habitantes y visitantes a Los Ángeles me apoyarán en la buena calificación a esta app.
Hate the “streaming now”
At the top of the home page. PLEASE design a way to opt out of that. If I’m playing something else, this app interrupts that. I’ve also never wanted to watch this “premium content.” Please please please remove it from the top of the home page.
Really good, but could you guys add something more to it?
I like this app, I use its every single morning for digesting current events. But please, could you guys add a playback speed option in the media section of this app? Could you guys allow us to change the speed of the videos please to 2x? And could you guys also add that to the podcasts too? It would be a big help, as it would allow me to consume more, in a shorter time frame. My commute is not that long, and sometimes episodes from the LA times podcasts are longer than my driving to school or to work, meaning that miss out on some info. News is supposed to be brief, and to the point. If I wanted in depth analysis, then I’d read the whole articles.
Soon-Shiong Propaganda Machine
Whatever history this might have had, it’s just a propaganda outlet for the guy who bought it out. Way too many incidents of him interfering to trust the publication anymore.
Just OK
You can view articles offline, but pales in comparison to the full web version. Its basic as it doesn't include Science, Technology, Environment, Asia, Celebrity etc all available on the full online version. I get more from reading Yahoo and NYtimes rss feeds. So not enough for me here.
