Broken Crosswords
Recent update completely broke crosswords. They no longer “solve”, selecting down clues isn’t possible and the amount of times you end up writing in the middle of another word is tedious.
Great everything except remembering where you are up to in an article
As above – I’ve been using this app for years, and it’s pretty sleek and very easy to use. The only thing I don’t like is that it doesn’t remember where you’re up to in Reading any particular article for very long. It would be particularly useful for things that you’ve saved – the long read, for instance – and if it came up at the place you’d last finished it, that would be really helpful, even if you’d started to read something else.
Keeps pausing
Has recently become almost unusable. Several times a minute it will pause for 10-20 seconds. Particularly noticeable when doing the crossword but even just scrolling is so bad. What have you done?
Keeps crashing after last update
App crashes after launch within 3 seconds. Every single time. Unusable. Cannot use the browser version on the Guardian website because when I log in it opens the app automatically - which then crashes!

As of the update 2 days ago the app won’t stay open on my iPhone 15 Pro. I’ve tried reinstalling with no success.

This is poor form, I could get rid of this pop up without pushing ok as it was the only option
Latest update is awful
Only really use the app for crosswords. Used to have a subscription but couldn’t afford to keep it; fortunately the crosswords are included with the non-subscribed app. Silly to limit the number of articles you can view when you can view them all on social media and online. But my issue is with the latest update - it’s rendered the crosswords horrible to use. The setter’s name is hidden and it’s all off-colour. Just a massive disimprovement on a feature that did not need changing.

Absolutely fantastic I love it, fun reads and serious ones which helps me better understand what’s going on in the world around me. Great app usage really modern and easy to use overall fantastic 😊

Good but lacks customisation
Generally a smooth experience but customisation options are limited. Please allow customising the order of sections on the front page and especially the bottom bar - for example I never use podcasts or puzzles so seems pointless having them there taking up so much space.
Drains battery
The app ran in the background at night without me opening the app or touching my phone. It ran in the background for more than 3 hours and totally drained the battery
Recent versions are buggy
I read or scroll through every article daily. At the bottom of articles the most read articles list appears at the bottom with only the entry numbers, no titles. After a short delay the most read list is removed from the article. I like the new crossword design but after a few clues the crosswords stops responding to touch - to select different words, use the back arrow to close the crossword, or the pop up menu entries.
The best
Beautiful
Signing in.
Yet again the damn app wants me to sign in. The Guardian line on this is that it wants to test reader response to being asked to sign in in. (What?). OK, so here’s my response: it’s a bloody nuisance and a breach of contract. I pay for this subscription, so when you block my access you are in breach of contract. Since Rusbridger left there has been a considerable decline in the quality of writing and in the impact of the journalism. Your competitors (Byline Times, for instance) are braver, more inquisitive, and just get on with delivering the journalism.
The best newspaper EVER!
The Guardian is a truly great read and I trust it to give me a primarily liberal take on world events. I love that it’s not funded by billionaires, but relies on reader support.
Too expensive
The free version of the app is basically unusable because of the limits. The subscription in my opinion is too expensive and it excludes so many people who can’t afford to spare £15 a month for this. Would be great to have tiered accounts with more ads for cheaper subscriptions.
News great; the app is a mess
The Guardians journalism is often great. The app however stumbles from one vision of awfulness to another.
This has become my essential
I’ve ditched all social media and now lean into the Guardian for any phone dopamine and I feel a lot better. Regardless of paper (Guardian, Telegraph, Times, Sun etc…) I’d recommend it
App vanished
I cannot delete the app as it has vanished from my screen. If I search for it in apps all it shows is “open” How to delete the app?
Great but buggy app
Love the app. Easy to navigate. Guardian produces informative, well written content. Also a big fan of puzzles such as cryptic crosswords and film reveal. But can’t give 5 stars due to a recent bug. When clicking onto puzzle page, the app freezes then crashes.

Had to dump this one too! They went to a sign in so they can collect your information and then email and text you! Good bye
Battery Killer
Great app, but lately I’ve noticed that it’s making my battery drain really fast and also causes iPhone and iPad to get really hot. Something going on with background processes… The only solution I’ve found is to make sure I force quit the app. Otherwise, it’s really good!
Brilliant and thought provoking
I read The Guardian daily and love it. Always insightful, groundbreaking and challenging. Just as news should be.
Poor
My rating is given not to the Apple part of the app but to the Guardian. I clarified with the Guardian helpdesk before taking out a subscription that it could be used by my family on different devices at different addresses. I was told yes through the Guardian website. I made the error of doing it through the app on my iPad, after constant prompting by the Guardian to support them. Total lack of transparency from the Guardian when subscribing via their app that there were other ways and levels to subscribe. Thankfully Apple very quickly refunded my subscription.
The US Through a Global Looking Glass
The Guardian provides exactly what Americans need to help take our blinders off. While traveling over the years throughout Europe and Mexico, I've been able to see first hand from a perspective outside the US what the term 'ugly American' really means. Trump embodies that humiliating, but not inaccurate summation. By removing the rock under which far right racist and religious extremists hid, he's brought our dark underbelly into the light. That truth has brought heartbreak and shame to progressives not only during this Trump autocracy, but for a lifetime. We love our country, and are not True Believers, but its true patriots. In our determination to rout Trump and his MAGA cult out of office, we can only hope the world will finally understand by our example that Christian Nationalists and Evangelicals do not represent the majority of the American electorate. The eligible voters are under a third, the majority of which are generational descendants of the Confederate South. Consciously or not, collective rage at their loss still fester. It's not an exaggeration to expect, when asked, that a frightening number would see no problem in bringing back slavery. Please forgive us, Guardian readers. We are a democratic republic and social democracy. We, as liberals and humanitarians, vow to bring a correction to this political aberration we're suffering through now. After November of this year and November of 2028, there will be a sea change, a tectonic shift in our political system. We owe it not only to ourselves, but to you and to the world outside our wounded and debilitated United States. Then the healing can begin.
Freezes all the time
Recent update means on iPhone and iPad the app crashes to frozen state when you go to the puzzles.
Very annoying
One of the top news sources in the world but often, when you switch back from another app, it has lost it’s memory of which article you were reading and you end up at the top of the main page and have to remember and drill back down to continue reading where you left off.
Proper journalism by proper journalists
Content, navigation, headings, almost everything about the Guardian app is outstanding. Editorial and opinions are not agenda-driven. Balanced and well sourced journalism. No billionaire puppet-master. So far ahead of the rest it’s embarrassing.
Lefty nonsense
Deleting this app. Just about had enough of the wokery which is so irrelevant to the way things are in the UK now.
Balance?
I get several news sources including the Sydney Morning Herald, ABC, SBS and others. I am an old leftie but I used to believe in reporting for media to be balanced and offering both sides of a question or conflict. Now I have to subscribe to various media and often I am still no wiser after I have heard both sides. In my view, both sides and everybody quoted, especially Trump, are offering me lies and propaganda. I shall have to give up subscriptions and just hop from one news media to another and try to sort out fact from fiction
Fluffed it
I was enjoying this app, but alas I’m now required to sign in… I don’t need yet another login. Thanks but no thank you.
Home button
Until recently you could double click on the Home button to jump to the top of the home page. This no longer works. This was really useful functionality. I used it regularly. Now you need to scroll up for ages to get to the top. Can you restore this please?
Real information
I applaud the Guardian for its reporting of facts and continually challenging all aspects of government- and for its investigative journalism. Fighting water pollution is a serious matter which the Guardian pressed to address the failures of infrastructure sell off. Keep up the good work.

More news than most outlets
Like all news outlets, The Guardian contains more opinion and analysis than straightforward reporting. But it has more news than most, and isn’t shying away from real issues facing the world today.
Anti Starmer bias
Very disappointed with the editorial bias and campaign against the PM. It’s very obvious and quite boring now.
Huge fan of the journalism - just rating the app
There are repeated problems with ‘saved stories’ not loading, or taking so long to load that the request times out. They also do not work offline (with subscription).

Overcharged on a subscription
I got massively overcharged on a subscription offer. I was trying to resubscribe after my annual subscription lapsed but when I clicked to accept the offer I got charged full price costing me more than £40 more. My credit card got deducted full price. The online chat was no help. I suggest you don't use the app and to subscribe through the web browser. The app is full of errors anyway. The games hardly ever work and I am on the latest IOS version on iPhone.
Great, but I can't work out how to change the font size
... and as a result, headlines are often presented very messy, with one word across two lines
Crashes all the time
I like the app normally, but over the last few weeks the app crashes daily. I have the most recent update.
Glitchy
Overall great but some things just don’t work. For example: clicking “report an issue” asked if I want to include attachments and once I click an option it does nothing. Some articles have images where you can see before/after and swipe between these two versions - the problem is that swiping in the app takes you to the next article, so both actions conflicts and you can’t actually see these before/after images.
Quality journalism
I think support this newspaper does not always get it right and seems easy to attack but in the uk this is the best for miles around
Will not work
I used to love the My Guardian feature which allowed me to follow topics or specific journalists. I have tried every which way but cannot sign in to this App. I can sign in from browser (but there is no My Guardian on browser), and I can still access Editions App!
Glitchy
Constantly signs me out and refuses sign in credentials website works fine, but phone app is often a royal pain
Watch out
Love Guardian coverage and insight.it’s the app that needs caution. However if you pay for a sub within this app, you cannot use your access with an android device (something that is not made clear when you pay for sub within app.) likewise if you subscribe within the app downloaded from google play, you cannot use access on iOS devices. This the management calls “third party subscription” and will not refund if done in error. Makes one consider not subscribing at all.
Lockups
What is up with the Puzzle page? 9 times out of 10 it simply locks up. Tried reinstalling, still locks up. Am I really the only one this is happening to? Great News app mind you!
