The Go To for Breaking Unique News First

This paper digs for the big lead. Two recent examples: The story about Open AI’s model breaking out of its constraints and breaking into a company called Hugging Face to obtain data illegally, and a story about Trump’s executive order directing the postal service not to deliver mail-in ballots to states who refuse to deliver their voter rolls to the Feds. I read both stories first in the WP, with other papers lagging behind in their coverage. Keep covering these monumental stories.

Moral of the Story: Don’t Fire Your Best Writers!

I am Centrist enough that the Post’s sharp veer to the Radical Right was disconcerting, but I just wanted the News and Sports anyways. The wholesale slaughter of the writing staff and elimination of the entire SPorts Center, however, has driven me to the NY Times and The Athletic, where you can enjoy actual writing - great writing - from Humans not Bots.

why the new ads???

i love doing the daily crossword, and i don’t mind sitting through the little 15 second ad before starting the puzzle. but then. then, the newest update came out and now there’s ad pop ups in-game that COVER THE WHOLE KEYBOARD. and the exit button on the ad doesn’t appear for at least 15-30 seconds. furthermore, once you’ve exited out of the stupid pop-up, you don’t even have enough time to type more than 3 letters before THE SAME AD POPS UP AGAIN AND WONT GO AWAY. like, washington post doesn’t even make their own crossword, they just use the LA Times crossword every day—so there’s really no excuse for why these ads are being pushed so aggressively. it’s made the app completely unusable.

I used to depend on The Washington Post for clear eyed journalism. Sadly, with the current editorial staff and ownership, the journalism now seems cowardly at best, and completely skewed at worst. Why does it require three taps after I enter my password to get to reading the paper (four if I tap the Return key to submit the password, which works for the e-mail address but not that)? The first to submit the password, the second to get rid of a very annoying “Thank you!” pop-up for signing in, and the third to get rid of the sign-in screen (from the Print Edition section) or else to get back to the Home/Top Stories page (if I sign in from there). Please find a way to keep it going!

I am a Canadian who started subscribing to the Post leading up to the 2024 Presidential election so I could get a US perspective of what is going on. Reporting in Canada shows a much darker perspective than what the US has been reporting. It has taken a while, but the Post and other major US news outlets are reporting, without doubt, that the emperor has no clothes. They hinted at it in disbelief before, but now they are full on reporting it. The recent gutting of the News Department is irrefutable evidence that democracy can and could die in darkness. Once a great paper.

The Washington Post was once a great paper. In November 2024 they pulled their endorsement of Harris. After that, a number of important writers left, essentially under protest. Ruth Marcus, Jennifer Rubin, Robert Kagan, Ann Telnaes and others. This is a direct result of Bezos, the owner of The Post, complying in advance to Trump, and interfering with the editorial direction of The Post. The motto of The Post is “Democracy Dies in Darkness” seems rather ironic at this point. If you are looking to purchase a subscription perhaps consider the New York Times, Des Moines Register, The Atlantic or other publications that provide news and opinion without cowering from Donald Trump. Publications with integrity, in other words. I maintain my subscription at a greatly reduced price - tried to unsubscribe and was given a much better price. Dana Millbank is still there and a great opinion writer so I am hanging on…for now. A real shame that a tech billionaire is steering the paper in the wrong direction. He should be ashamed of himself. America gave him the opportunity to have immense success in business but he seems fine to pull up the ladder. This is how democracy dies.
