What people like
- High quality business journalism
- Articles are unbiased and factual
- Easy to use interface
What they complain about
- App makes your phone overheat
- Autoplaying videos with sound are annoying
- You cannot turn off autoplay ads
- Canceling subscription is a nightmare
They solved the comments issue
They finally solved seeing comments in the app. Thank goodness.
Autoplaying videos have no place in a business app
Autoplaying videos - with audio at full blast. No setting to disable. Obnoxious and unprofessional.
Sustainable business went dark
Always have appreciated the quality of reporting especially with the Sustainable Business section. Too bad they took it out.
“Restore Purchase”
Since the price hike ($45 ☠️), the app won’t let you read any news articles unless you subscribe or restore purchase. I’ve been loyal to this company for years and have resubscribed. It still won’t let me view any news - just takes me back to the screen to “restore purchase”. If this isn’t fixed within the week, I’m going to delete WSJ and move on to some other news source.
Crossword update
Please revert to the prior crossword format. The new format took away the ability to easily navigate to the next clue, and replaced it with a clunky interface with small arrows requiring very precise touch points. Also allow the iPad native keyboard to be utilized. It is cumbersome to have to use a WSJ developed keyboard just to complete the crossword. Also, all crosswords now display “play” with no indication on “completed.” Please put back the completed denotation. Thank you.
Simply the best newspaper around
I look forward to reading my WSJ every day. Articles are professionally written and thought provoking, and the Opinion pieces are always spot on. Thank you for maintaining integrity in journalism.
Autoplay videos super annoying
The great reporting etc etc is being ruined by the awful autoplay videos that blast out sound randomly and can’t be turned off in any settings. PLEASE FIX this.
Today’s edition
What happened to the rest of this edition. Only Page One and Opinion show up.
Fixes needed
Love the WSJ., but please fix the audio player for articles! The first 10 seconds it reads some miscellaneous info about the article which can be skipped — and it doesn’t even pronounce things like “WSJ.Magazine” right, which it should. And second, you can’t even exit the app or lock your iphone while listening to an article. This is very unfortunate
Gift Links Don’t work.
Please fix app so I can send gift links This used to work. Now link says it copies but recipients can’t open. Sends them to subscriber/log in page.
Good content!
Excellent articles.
Audio for articles is ruined
This app used to be great. But now if you stay to listen to an article (read by AI) the article will stop if you lock the screen. Or if you navigate away from the app. This ruins the whole reason to use the audio, so you don’t have to stare at the screen. No longer can you lock the phone and put it in your pocket to listen to an article like you can with any of the hundreds of other similar apps. New York Times app can do this, too complicated for you to program, WSJ?
Comments?
It’s a great read, these days, but I have to use the mobile site rather than the app because the app, inexplicably in 2026, doesn’t show reader comments.
Popup ads? I’m already paying!
Not sure why I get popup ads in the middle of articles now. Quite annoying. The app is also laggy, which is silly, since all it needs to do is display text. That aside, enjoy the articles.
no comments
I don’t get why this app doesn’t let you leave comments—only on the website. It’s 2024, how hard can it be to add such a basic feature to the app?
Critical for Market Leaders
There is no other publication in the world that provides this kind of insight.
Turn off video autoplay and turn down ad sensitivity
Turn off video autoplay and turn down ad sensitivity
Please Add Playback Speed Option To Audio
Love the app, love your reporting. Love listening to articles. Please add an option to adjust audio playback speed and make it so my selection is saved so I don’t have to set it for each article. Keep up the great work
Unable to post comments to articles using the mobile app
"The Internet connection appears to be offline." Yet I am able to read the articles. This has been an ongoing problem, yet no developer has addressed it.
So-called issue download doesn’t work
I tried to download the most recent issue before getting on a plane (which had no WiFi), but the so-called download let me read only about half the articles. Half the articles only showed an error message that I needed to have internet access. A far superior download capability was eliminated when the WSJ app was overhauled a couple of years ago. Please bring back that full function. You certainly can’t be proud of this weak halfway offering.
Great Newspaper
WSJ is an excellent newspaper. It has complete details of all sorts of information. Specially financial news. Thanks Abdillahi Warsame
great content, awful app
The audio read option is awesome, great articles, easy access, but has a glaring flaw: settings. For those of us who logon to READ the WSJ, we do NOT want to have a video automatically play. I absolutely HATE auto video. It's distracting from the READING an article. Why can't WSJ make this a setting that can be turned off like 99.9% of other content apps???
Great paper, app update might be off
Excellent newspaper. Highly recommend it. The app, however, now causes iPhone 14 Pro to heat up dramatically since the latest app and iOS update. (iOS 17) Phone becomes uncomfortably hot after two or so articles. Cools off quickly after quitting the WSJ app. (The news is not that hot!)
Crossword fan
You broke the crossword with the recent update. The keyboard is not ergonomic on iPad, clues bizarrely jump around when inputting letters and the clue being answered no longer appears as a separate line. Please fix or revert to the previous iteration.
Okay App, Poor Reporting
Sometimes is a challenge to distinguish between newsroom reporting and opinion columns. Also I frequently found opinion columns more helpful with presenting facts.
Business & Economy
Great features:) Fantastic insights:)
Turn off the autoplay
You gotta turn off the video auto play with sound. It’s obnoxious. Especially when your phone is on silent. Turn it off.
Good stuff !
In detailed analysis of the latest & contemporary topics . Very enjoyable
SLOW
This app just keeps hanging up. I don’t know if they’re doing it intentionally to force you to look at ads, but I can’t get through a single article without it hanging up. Updates seem to make no difference, and I’m on fiber, so not a bandwidth issue.
Why forced dark mode?
I used to have no problem with the app, but now it has an enforced dark mode and doesn’t seem to have any option to return to light mode. Disappointing for those of us that prefer to read in light mode.
Excellent app.
Very user friendly. WSJ is the pinnacle of business journalism but it also excels at covering many other beats. A must read news source.
Ads playing
Had wsj for years. Somewhat recently, maybe months or so, the ads have started to automatically play with sound. It's so abrupt and jarring, and plays noise publicly, I'm about to uninstall and unsubscribe. Even without sound, for over a year, the auto play has been pausing whatever I'm listening to in the background automatically. Put a setting in to turn it off.
Can’t see or write comments
It’s a shame that the commenting functionality isn’t available on the iOS app.
New Format
Where’s the newspaper? I am about ready to cancel my subscription because I can no longer see the entire newspaper and choose what I want to read. Instead, some powers have decided what’s important for me to see. For example, where is the Mansions section? It’s not listed as a section but if I go to the print edition (which is clumsy and difficult to navigate), it is there meaning it must still exist. But it doesn’t show in the list of sections in the new app. Please bring back the newspaper format in the main menu bar. You can leave all the other items for those who want you to choose what is important to them.
Great app but continuously refreshes
Great app but when scrolling through the app, it will randomly refresh itself and reload the whole screen and will reset and show the top news . Even though you might have scrolled to the end of screen. Very annoying and defeats the whole purpose to use the app vs the website.
WSJ
Lost in the media desert for decades, the WSJ is an oasis
Ads too touch sensitive!
Your overly touch sensitive ads make reading articles in the app an exercise in frustration. Tone down the sensitivity to match your competitors please. I don’t like constantly popping up new ad windows which take me outside your app involuntarily.
Content
Articles are well researched , grammatically correct , relevant, interesting, released before other outlets and unbiased.Thankyou.
What does it take to get it right?!!
Once again, there is a problem with the left column displaying on an IPad. This is an ongoing problem that has been going on for some time now.
The menu is so confusing.
I feel I’m not intelligent enough to understand how to find sessions on this iPad app. It’s so much easier with phone and desktop. Also images seem to be cropped when viewing on portrait mode. This needs a lot of improvements.
Best Paper in the World
What I like about the WSJ is that it tells me the facts, not what to think.
Canceling is a pain
Honesty this has been the hardest cancelation I’ve ever had to deal with. There is no button to cancel subscription. You must call customer service with faulty phone numbers and then they are no help when you get them. I have been trying to cancel for a hour. Honestly ridiculous that I have to go this far just to cancel.
A Global View of The World.
It is a pleasure to read such a variety of articles.
A journal is lost quality in terms of providing information. It’s way too common repetitive assignin
Far from the quality, it was too full of passwords and repetitiveness reassigning membership definitely lost quality and a member for well over 50 years used to be quality in issue and function two stuck out reassuring and password
No way to access
I have just taken up a subscription deal, but the app keeps asking me to subscribe and won’t let me access content!! Now what??
The most reliable media by far
Based on the correct prediction WSJ gave on many issues with Chinese government, I now only subscribed this newspaper and gave up NY times. Plus the APP is really easy to use.
Not free, like it says
No, you have to subscribe unless you just want to read previews.
Rate
Ok.
Power drain
The WSJ content is terrific, but the app is terrible. It makes my phone hot and quickly drains the battery. They need to fix the app so that it works like it used to
Review WSJ
I find the WSJ informative however I do not think it is as good as the CNN CNN is less restrictive in sharing information with the reader so I can read more information on a particular article using CNN CNBC is also good but CNN is number 1
