This app was great till earlier this year they made it pretty much subscribers only. NBC universal doesn’t make enough money to provide you with the news anymore 🙄

All the article are basically “ for subscribers only” … why would I pay for the same news /articles I watch on my tv stream apps

It has been over run with subscription only articles. I deleted it after having used it for years.
Five Stars become Three in Canada
Go figure… the programmers at MSNBC App and News… after having HAD Apple App support and the ability to login/password CANADIAN Cable/TV/Internet subscribers… just DROP all support Users CANADA WIDE can no longer do so for Rogers, Shaw, TELUS…NOT ONE provider listed though they WERE visible for login (just months ago). I noticed that APP CONTINUES TO BE AVAILABLE on the Apple Canada App Store… but is NOT SUPPORTED for feedback and support at I EITHER apple nor MSNBC. It does sometimes stream in app, but if itlaunches a browser mode for msnbc does not allow the streaming. Often this browser mode is “in app” for targeted advertising or outsource msnbc portal content not accessible within the app. So this is a REVERSAL of the Quality of Service I expect from MSNBC app TV and News…
Subscriber Spoils
I used to love this App as a good source for news. They recently introduced a Subscribers status which requires users to pay a monthly fee to access certain articles. This has taken over with the majority of articles now tagged as “Subscribers only.” Will look elsewhere for news.

Version 10.0 broke the listen tab !!
Been listening to NBC for years and years using this app. Stopped working a week ago. New listen tab DOES NOT WORK, when it used to. Uninstalled and reinstalled multiple times. App still works on iPad, but no longer on iPhone. Please fix !!

Nope. I won’t be paying for what was free. Most articles are locked behind paywall now.
Somewhat limited
I’ve explored the app semi thoroughly and there doesn’t seem to be a way to search for articles by title or by custom topic. I’m sure it does a lot of things well, and the ability to watch or listen live is pretty neat, but it seems a wee bit cumbersome to seemingly need to open a web browser, find an article that way, then tap the link to view an article in the app.
Less or No Ads
Great and easy to watch with far fewer or even no annoying ads.
Bad To Worse
The fact that NBC is forcing you to pay for their lowly news reporting is a real shame and disgusting. The Americans are so greedy…makes me thrilled to be British. Our news sources are much more worldly and advanced.
Slick and high-quality news app
I decided to give this app a go, having been quite impressed with the CNN one. The NBC app is actually even better - it is a joy to use and has lots of interesting, well-written content. Well done!

Most content is now only for paid subscribers
Had this app for years. I noticed a few months ago more stories had a subscriber only tag. Ok, no big deal, most stories were still free. Now the app is easily 85% subscriber only, with just a few free stories sprinkled in. I’m not paying to read content I can view on my TV. Epic fail NBC. Time for a new news app.
Players Controls Block Screen
The video player controls never disappear from the screen. They block the image themselves, plus they cause a dark overlay to further obscure the image: doubly cursed. Why can’t you simply use the Apple iOS video player and be done with it?

Used to like this, but now almost every article can only be read if you have a subscription. I’m not buying another subscription.

Love the app it allows me to listen to world news while on the go. I use it everyday, you can listen to live audio news daily for free no subscription required all day long. The only setback I have with the app though is my PowerBeats pro volume control doesn’t work with it most of the time. I hope they will look into this flaw soon.

I’ve always had an extreme dislike of politics, and have never been one to really closely follow the news, but about 18 months ago I decided to learn. I started watching MSNBC, and downloading and reading the news every day on my NBC news app. You folks have not only introduced me to a whole new world of understanding and knowledge, but have taught me so much almost from the ground up about American politics. Your app news articles are very well-written, reliable and interesting, and I really look forward to reading them. MSNBC is just brilliant. The news anchors are very interesting, obviously extremely knowledgeable and competent, and have a very unique and warm approach which makes listening to the news really enjoyable. Now my husband and I talk politics and he tells me he’s amazed how much I now know about it. Thank you, NBC and MSNBC, and keep up the great work!!

App is great(majority of the time!)
I lived in Hong Kong and never had a problem with this app now I’m in UK app crashes on certain days of the week so I have to get my daily dosage of MSNBC News from YouTube on the days it crashes. If I was still in Hong Kong I’d give 5*’s but since it’s crashing on certain days of the week I only give it 4*’s, and if developers read this or others read up on this review (I’m going to give this app say a month or Two more and if nothing happens rather watch it from YouTube!), just honest truth!
Not what it used to be
I have been using this app for years and used to love it. Now my feed is 90% articles that I cannot read because they’re “for subscribers only”. Really bummed that I need to find a new news app.

The user experience is very poor compared to countries in Europe. It could be a lot better.

Subscribers Only
If the idea is to have everyone get a subscription now, that should be a separate app. I don’t want to open the NBC News app I have used for years to now have to scroll past 8 articles that I can’t read before I get to one I can read. After having this app for years I’m ready to move elsewhere for news. Please work on the platform or I will be deleting it.
Drives me nuts...
The Inspiring America advertising video INCESSANTLY comes up. OK, I can understand it coming once per session, but for EVERY video played, even if it’s 45 seconds. One really bad and really BIG drawback to an otherwise great app. Once per session, please. Enough already.
Didn’t know I would end paying for basic news
Almost every article is a “Subscriber” article. It doesn’t entice me to sign up. It entices me to delete the app altogether & start looking somewhere else for basic news.
Glitches
Using iPhone 5c. Maddow show not updating for 3 days; also after sharing to Twitter, videos no longer rotate. Pls update app, thx.

Paywalls
For the past 10+ years, this has been my go-to app for national news. With 75% of articles now blocked by pay walls, an entire section of “editorial” product reviews linking exclusively to Amazon, and nearly 10% click bait ads poorly disguised as “articles”, I’m officially done. Capitalism is killing journalism.
landscape orientation unresponsive and crash
Using iOS 13.1 on iPhone 11 pro max causes loss of responsiveness followed by app crash. Thanks for looking into this.
This app has changed for the worse
I have used this app ever since I got my first iPhone back in 2009. I have depended on this app to keep me up to date not only with what is going on in our country, but also with what is going on in the rest of the world. As of late, almost all the stories on NBC News are “for subscribers only”. As someone on a fixed income, I cannot afford to be a subscriber. It is really sad. Also, I do manage to pay for a subscription to Peacock and sort of feel robbed that my Peacock subscription doesn’t cover the news app. :(
Blank pages
Read the headline touch the screen to read the story. Some will come up on the top half of the screen you can then play the story. Problem arises when you touch it and it goes to a blank page seems to be those with a written story.

Good to see and contrast what items are considered to be the most important news on the day with other big news networks eg The BBC and Sky. Helps me navigated through “fake news.”
Website unusable after paid subscription
I deleted the app after many years of using it. I can understand having a subscription for premium content, but the app has literally become unusable due to all of the subscription-only articles that are being displayed now. Why are you asking me to pay for content that was literally free a month ago?! I’m not paying for basic news stories NBC.

Excellence in Reporting
Factual, to the point reports. Totally objective in nature. Not usually seen these days in the news. Experienced people who speak to the people and don’t talk down to them like other broadcast crews have been doing. As a Canadian I look to NBC NEWS for the facts, and understanding of reporting all sides of a discussion or, in this case, both the left, right and centrist sides of the political map.

I am in no position to subscribe to NBC News and they have subscription only on on soooo many news stories that I can no longer have this app up.
