The New Yorker app is EXCELLENT!!
Thank you for the amazing work you do for all of us!!! With people like you, there’s still hope… ❤️
Doesn’t work
Main page and games just show a blank screen. Same process blew over and over
Love the content, hate the AI “voice”
I left Apple News and subscribed to this app because I love the wide variety of content (and the games, too!). But one thing I can’t get over is how the articles are narrated by an AI “voice.” It was really jarring to go from listening to human narrated articles on Apple News to AI narration on The New Yorker (honestly, still can’t believe it’s not the other way around). Please *Please* consider changing this - I know it’s probably cheaper and easier to use it, but it leaves an “ick” on these great human produced articles.
The New Yorker deserves better
The NYer is a great magazine but this is a pretty subpar app. To give just one example, there is no way to search by an author name and find everything they’ve ever written for the magazine. What is the point of having such a vast digital archive (a big selling point they make everywhere) when you don’t make it super accessible and have a great search function? And why show the same suggested articles for literally everything I read? Just fix your ranking and recommendations and make some actually intuitive navigation. Overall, it functions, but I feel like anyone these days could vibe code a better experience. They need to hire a new PM/eng team.
Why does the app STILL regularly forget sibscription status?????????
No other app does this. Why??? Seemingly every week I open this app and—after waiting for the app to wake up and update—click on an article only to be met with the splash screen telling me to subscribe or renew. Then once I click Log in it says “with the same accounts and yeah!!!What else would I be doing???? I’m sure there is some data-mining reason for this repeated nonsense but can someone PLEASE FIX IT. (Also your search engine is still worthless.)
Saves my place now
I had been unhappy with the app before so I wanted to credit them for fixing the main problem—the app often didn’t save your place. As for the magazine itself it’s the only reason I like having a phone as I generally read it cover to cover; it’s the media equivalent of the Clash. It’s the only magazine that matters.
Terrible and inconsistent
The app repeatedly and inconsistently freezes and does not display content. It will appear to be working and then freeze on a white screen. Online chat help is useless.
Search needs fixing
I’ve been a subscriber for a few years now, and I’ve generally had a good experience with the app with one exception: the search function is completely broken. It’s basically impossible to find a specific article, even if I’m searching the exact title. It’s frustrating.
good luck trying to use it off-line
Very frustrating app. Constantly asking you to sign in again, which you can’t do if offline ie on subway. Constantly updating and won’t work if you’re off-line. Every other magazine app works better than this one. Very much dislike the idiotic jumping graphics which interrupt attempting to read an article.
Frustrated
I love The New Yorker like some people love their Bible. But signing in to the app though I am an active paying member is a frazzled unsatisfactory experience. For example, after signing in with my email username I never receive a verification code. I get very frustrated and a little old lady I have limited skills and patience.
Very Long Time Reader
My Subscription Has servived over 80 Years, It was of most value in a war zone. The availability of truth cannot be over valued. Good writing is often hard to find and this publication is a source of both.
Biased reporting
What a racist bigoted antisemitic litter-box wrapper the New Yorker has become. What a fall from its glory days of in depth, impartial journalism. I cancelled my subscription after 3 years of its historically illiterate analysis of the Middle East. The omissions and fabrications, the absence of historical perspective, the ideological vs factual reporting, leads one to wonder, are there any adults left in the press room? Disgraceful, and a sad illustration of how pandering to the lowest common denominator, the clamoring antizionist, has so tarnished a once respectable journal.
Playback speed
Please add a .75 or .8 playback speed (like your contemporaries have) this would be greatly appreciated
App is awful
I have subscribed for decades. The app is awful. Don’t use it. Find another way to read it digitally.
Audio issues
Please fix the audio. It is so very glitchy !!!! Half the time it just refuses to start. Especially bad for downloaded articles. Very frustrating
Outstanding!
Phenomenal writing, terrific cultural range, fearless journalism. I’m a long-time subscriber and consider it essential reading.
Worst app
The New Yorker has good content but the app is terrible. Difficult to navigate particularly if you want Audio content. Some of it is at the Listen link but not all of it so you need to bounce around. And the AI audibility is awful. Finally, the privacy choices take a half hour to even find and I do not trust Condé Nast to abide by my choices.
Great app; no dark mode :(
I love this app, but I really wish I could use it before going to sleep, without getting exposed to too much light!
So annoying I unsubscribed
This app, while beautiful, logs me out every single time I open it. ‘Subscriber? Please log in!’ Girl, I never logged out and opened you on Monday and logged in, for the thousandth time. I’ve had the NYTimes app for ten years and it’s never once forced me to log in again. This app it’s literally every single week. I gave up and cancelled my subscription. If yall figure this out, please let me know and I’ll return.
Ai voices are so bad
We hate the AI voice narrators. Why?? Pay narrators.
I don’t know
I don’t know much about the app. But The New Yorker has the best writing around.
Cannot download for Mac Pro
Reading New Yorker digitally is so difficult! The website is a mess. I can’t read the latest issue page by page easily. The app is even worse, since it won’t work on many devices (with a little older iOS). It is most difficult to read the content digitally!
Night mode
I love the app but it would be so much easier to read with a night mode that activates according to system settings.
The “magazine” that forces me to watch video
The New Yorker’s excellent-if-scattershot content is kneecapped in an alley with a baseball bat by its recent addition of unblockable auto-streaming video. It’s deeply sad that an institution of print media like this is so wildly insecure that they’re shoving Pivot To Video 2.0 down our throats. Add the option to shut it off and I will reevaluate accordingly.
Search is suboptimal
The New Yorker responded to my app review! My complaint: I can’t find older articles I’d like to read using search. They agreed it is important and have shared this with the team.
Top class journalism
The New Yorker consistently provides well-written interesting takes on a wide range of topics. It’s the only publication I read where I’ve never found a typo or grammatical error.
Needs update
Recently the app started crashing any time I try to open one of the “classic” articles I’ve saved.
Needs dark mode feature
Can’t enable dark mode on the app which is super unfortunate
Agree with others - sign-in nightmare
Why do I keep getting bounced out as though I am not a recognized subscriber? Nonr of my other subscriptions have ever been so difficult!!
Search doesn’t work
There’s a lot that I love about this app, but the search function is totally broken and has been for some time. There’s no way to, for example, find a review of a major film that came out three years ago, or a profile of a public figure. Even when I type in the exact title and author of an article, I get a million more recent articles, all irrelevant, because they contain one or two of the words I just searched. Using quotation marks doesn’t help. It’s infuriating and entirely fixable if they cared to fix it.
Continuing Outstanding
First among many. The one source for new writings, best for continuity when that really counts. In times of backward reverses, the dependable forward momentum.
Worthless app
It is virtually impossible to enter enough credentials to be allowed to read the magazine. I’m a hair away from cancelling a magazine I’ve subscribed to for 5 decades. FGD app.
Can we please add a night mode
One of my favourite apps to read articles , just one request , can we please add a night mode also
Unpredictable loading
Top Stories don’t load—even after deleting and re-installing—and sign-in has also been frustrating for me sometimes. Agree with others that the app isn’t outstanding.
Crashes and keyboard doesn’t fit
Good content but the app crashes a lot. Also when playing the crossword, the keyboard is so close to the edge of the phone screen that it makes it hard to type.
New Yorker
Love this app. Always recognizes me. Always opens and the audio short fiction has been game a changer for me. I never miss an issue
Crosswords
I literally only have this for the crosswords and why is it that i can’t see what my partner is doing in the crosswords anymore?? what is the point of player mode if i can’t play with player
App...well it’s a process.
Some combination, function and or algorithm of the app & the user (me) ultimately results in my international subscription working. It’s done. And that’s good. The New Yorker it’s great. The app...well it’s a process.
Needs sign in work
I like the New Yorker content. When I try to participate in things (eg captions contest) even though I am in the app and already signed in it takes me through an additional confusing sign in process that takes me to the website and not the app. And I have to repeat this often.
AI summaries are unwelcome
I’ve been reading the New Yorker since I was a kid, having had some kind of subscription since the 90s. Now, as a busy adult, I appreciate the ability to read it online. The app is, generally, fine. It’s not flashy, but it reliably saves my place in articles I read and has dark mode. However, I just noticed that it has added AI summaries to some stories, and that sucks. The New Yorker is one of the places where I feel reasonably sure that what I’m reading was written by humans. Seeing begin to erode is sad and maddening. Please at least allow us to turn off AI related features.
Please add dark mode
All very nice. The quality of the magazine is unbeatable. I would also appreciate a search by topic of interest, like science.
Awful Log In Experience
Impossible to log in; only works with browser not app
One of my favourite magazines
Love the app and magazine, but I have one peeve. Whenever I swipe out of the app, to quickly check a message or something else, or do something in real life outside my phone... it always resets to the top of the article I’m reading. Just an annoying inconvenience, especially for longer articles, that’s unique to the New Yorker app.
Why does it sign me out?
Would be great if it didn’t constantly sign me out, not least when I’m in airplane mode on a plane, trying to read a downloaded issue, and there is actually no possible way to sign in.
Robot voice
I generally find the content varied and interesting. Love Isaac Chotiner. Hate that they use robots to read their articles instead of paying a human. The mispronunciations and lack of emotion are distracting.
It is more than a magazine
It is also a great newspaper. The coverage of the war in Ukraine is thorough with feet on the ground Excluding puzzles and cartoons I receive on average 3 emails a day about current and past cultural happenings movies, plays, books. Suffice it to say The Yorker is a if not the top source of current as well as past events
App seems to exist to frustrate.
Originally, the app was just to read the print edition of the New Yorker. It worked well. Fast, reliable, and a joy. Now the app is unstable, crashes frequently, loads content I have zero interest in immediately upon opening instead of allow allowing me to access what I want to access immediately. Does not work with multiple VPNs, and each update tries to hide the magazine itself. I just want to read the print edition of the magazine on my tablet. Each update makes this app more difficult to use. 2026 Update: continues to be sluggish; have to wait for home screen to populate items i'll never read to have the privilege to make multiple taps to my magazines; forced to re-sign in all the time. Bring back the simple, reliable, print-magazine-only app. This one is a chore. Yuck.
Wonderful and easy
Love it! Love all of the journalism! Easy to use and perfect. Would be great if all of the stories in the downloaded issues were easily available to see as previews though. Just some creative criticism but other than that love everything!
Cannot get app to recognize my paid subscription.
Two stars for the writers I would love to read but cannot.
Annoying app feature
The app consistently kicks you out of the article you are reading and defaults back to the home page, even when you do not close the app. This is extremely frustrating!
