What people like
- News is quick and topical
- Writing is well researched
- Easy to understand plain speak
What they complain about
- Cheat Sheet section is missing
- Articles fail to load often
- Ads interrupt you constantly
New app
Lots of bugs keep having to delete and reopen. Now in limbo
WORST APP UPDATE
Hate the new app update!!! Prefer the navigation, organization, and accessibility of the old app, as I find it to be way more aesthetic and user-friendly. No more crossword access via app with the new update; it is only accessible via web page. If I’m paying for a subscription, all online content should be accessible via app. What is the point of the app if a browser is required for certain material? How senseless. Do better.
Good app for good(bad) news
I read TD Beast regularly because of its snarkiness. The articles are well written and researched. I wish the app had a setting to increase the font size though.
New update is a step backwards
Swipe to go back. Put this back in the app. It is stupid easy to do. Stop telling me to sign in or subscribe when I am already signed in and already subscribed.
Where’s the Cheat Sheet?
I’m stunned to find that my favorite part of The Daily Beast’s website is apparently MIA from their iPhone app. Where’s the damn Cheat Sheet?? I can’t understand not including this in your app.
New app is broken
No content: what happened?
Last update (July 2026) killed the app
The most recent update killed the app. Previously, the app worked offline. You just needed to briefly connect to the internet and it would update itself with all the latest stories which you could then read at your leisure offline. Now, they’ve completed changed the app. Each story needs to download when you open it. It also tends to freeze up and not download even if you have a great connection. In addition, the app now restricts what stories you see. The culture section is completely gone. The other sections show maybe 20-30% of the stories available on the Daily Beast website. So, what’s the point of the app?? Fewer stories, loads lower than chrome or safari, requires constant internet connection. Sounds like the website but with fewer articles to read.
Ad interruptions
Good app except for the constant interruptions with ads interspersed in every article.
Can’t read any reviews
For some reason, every story says “Full story unavailable check internet connection” - even though I have a solid connection and a paid subscription. Very annoying! Yes, I have the latest version of the app. It never used to do this. It seems that something in the latest update caused this.
Dark Mode is broken
Please fix Dark Mode. It worked great until this latest update. The white background is BLINDING !
⚖️ keep the Truth Coming
You may be the last hope for a free press. Right now the billionaires are taking over many of the news organizations on the behalf of the republicans. Your articles are short and accurate and they expose the corruption of the Republican Party and their blind allegiance to their lord and master ………trump. Keep up the good work and don’t let the king intimidate you guys.
7.21.26 subscription issues
Subscription issues have been resolved. Anna stuck with me and fixed the glitches preventing me from accessing articles. Thank you, Anna🦠
Really fun! The informed person’s daily treat
Great writing, surprises galore. 4 stars versus 5 only because the articles are not updated every hour.
App is currently unusable
Love the publication as a whole, but the latest app updates have made it unusable. Took away dark mode, and continuous article reading resulting in having to back out of articles multiple times just to get back to the home page. Half the stories won’t even load anymore. Full sentences of text are cut out of nearly every article and lost so the full context of most stories is missing. This new update has completely trashed the entire app. And that’s not even counting the numerous spelling, grammar, and editing mistakes that are published in multiple articles everyday. The editors at the Daily Beast are ruining this publication and making it look like it’s being run by a bunch of inexperienced children. You all need to fix yourselves very quickly if you want to continue being taken seriously. Right now you’re heading into cheap tabloid territory and it’s not a good look.
Why no Cheat Sheet?
I read that section everyday and it’s not on the new app, as far as I can tell.
Good Stuff
Big Fan of Michael Wolff and Joanna Coles 💃
What is with this??
The font is enormous! Can you bring it down to half its current size? I don’t need to scroll thru 12 screens to read a small blurb. Also, why is the app sucking the life out of my phone battery? After I read 2 articles anything after that starts draining it about 1% per article.
barely functioning
annual subscriber for years but now the app is barely functioning. the Cheat Sheet disappeared but at least it’s back - yay! unfortunately the overall content is lacking and many articles simply won’t load at all - Full Story Unavailable. and in all this time the Beast hasn’t figured out the Save Story function would be a huge plus.
Crash
The app crashes and stalls often. Good app but annoying.
Gonzo journalism
One of the finest examples of gonzo journalism.
App does not retain subscription log in
Every time I use the app I have to log out and log back in to see stories behind paywall. Please fix this!!!
Poor digital execution
The Daily Beast has always had poor execution on their website and apps. I constantly feel like a beta tester. What works on one platform doesn’t work on another. Usually the iOS apps are the losers. I had high hopes for the completely redesigned iOS app. For about 20 seconds. Right out of the gate it lacks my favorite features entirely. No quick review Cheat Sheet. NO CROSSWORD PUZZLE. Both of these are still on the web browser version. Are they going to phase out the crossword puzzle entirely? Or just never have it in the app? Speaking of the crossword puzzle and their bad history of making changes that break things, if you’re doing it in the web browser version, the new ad style with ads on the right messes up doing the puzzle. It breaks the feature of hitting return to go to the next word. The ad steals the focus of the mouse and you have to click in the puzzle to continue. Just a lot of stupid examples like this of their horrible digital execution and lack of testing or just plain not caring.
What happened to your app?
I am a daily reader of The Daily Beast, even get the emails. The app used to work all the time. Now it won’t refresh for over a week now. Same thing happened last month and then it corrected itself. I pay for the service. Your web version is a mess. Constantly reloading. Please fix this! I want to continue to support your writers.
Great news outlet.
One of my favorite sources for news. Check every day several times. Keeps me up to date. Love it!
The new update is UNUSABLE
PROBLEM 1: Since the update, clicking on many of the headlines don’t load the article but just a white page saying unable to find article (which I can easily find the same article on the web) and there’s no way to get back to the headlines. I have to exit the app and reload. PROBLEM 2: With just about every article, a paragraph about 2/3 of the way down loses everything after the first line. It’s as though there’s no word wrap and the text extends beyond the right margin. PROBLEM 3: The app no longer auto-refreshes. I now have to always pull down the page to force to refresh. All this is not even to mention the fact that the new UI tweaks are pretty meh, boring and uninspired. This update was a step backward, not forward.
Cheat Sheet Gone?
I am a subscriber and use the app every day. Why did you remove the Cheat Sheet from the app? That makes no sense, as it is such an integral part of The Daiky Beast.
Inconvenient app.
When I click a linked story on social media, why doesn’t it open the app on my phone? Why is there no search feature on this news organization app?
Love the Daily Beast
Great & articles curated for my tastes/interests, as well as concise info without excessive long articles. Plain-speak for anyone to understand and easy comprehend.
Where’s the Cheat Sheet?
The new app fails to include three key content section distinguishing from the rest of the media - Cheat Sheet. Why? This is my go to every day, multiple times a day. Not a fan of the redesign. Would not recommend. If it goes away altogether, I’ll drop my subscription.
Daily Beast
No longer news. It’s Performative. I’ve been a Daily Beast reader for decades. It used to be a source of solid news. Its articles exaggerate to get clicks. Its headlines use performative language to get you to click. Just report and provide opinions with supporting evidence.
Decent enough app but why the ads?
With a paid subscription to The Daily Beast I shouldn't have to see Google ads. This is a deal breaker for me and I'm going to delete the app. Other than that, the interface and organization are fine. I'll wait until they streamline things a bit more and dump the ads.
Unique
The news behind the news.
Deleted after using for years
So for the first time ever, I got a message that I was out of free articles?! Yeah, nah. The Cheat Sheet is gone, the articles are awful…sorry guys but you have been uninstalled.
Convenient
Always on my phone. Available any time and place. Up to the minute
Love the beast
Always topical, quick to load
Horrible Update
I updated the app and have had nothing but trouble. Signing to both iOS and Android was complicated. No Cheat Sheet. Font stuck on gigantic. Unhappy with the changes. Have loved the app for years. Looks like all good things come to an end
New upgrade stinks June 26
If it’s not broke don’t fix it. No cheat sheet. After reading an article app goes back to top. Have to scroll down to try to find where I am.
