Rigged Dice: FRAUD
The dice are very obviously rigged and/or malfunctioning consistently. They are either extremely dumb or terrible liars, but the dice are not close to random. They write a long and rambling post about how secure and random their dice are, and I find that hilarious. BS. You will quickly find statistically impossible trends for “random” dice. For example, the number of doubles is dramatically higher late in games. This has happened over and over and over, to both me and my opponents. As a result, MOST games are determined by the incredibly high rate of doubles late in the game. The analysis also sucks, as it does not effectively show any understanding at all of a back game and is just wrong pretty often. It’s as if the people who made this game don’t know how to play the game. Good concept, but bad execution. Fraud.
Playable in and out of app!
I like so much about it including the tutorials, hints, game options, “AI” practice players, and board options. Things I want to see fixed? Sure: it doesn’t show your email address in the app Profile so you can’t confirm whether you’ve logged in under the wrong account. Please fix.
Get penalized with loss and loss of stars if game board cannot open
What a terrible design. Weak internet and game board cannot open and I get stuck with a loss.
Great gameplay but needs audio fix
I like to listen to podcasts in the background but the latest update has made that a rough experience. Any time I start up the app it kills my audio. I have to wait to get into a game and then sometimes I can switch over to my podcast app and hit play and then go back into the game. Sometimes the audio then stops other times it doesn’t. 🤷♂️ Please fix it!

A frustrating experience
There are many things I like about this app. Playing with an AI player and getting feedback on your moves - excellent, good, error, and blunder are very helpful. The hint button is also very helpful to see if your planned move is on the right track before you make it. Getting basic analysis and your rating after all games is helpful too. What is bad about the app is it’s slow, and freezes as well. There are 2 levels of upgrades - star member 9.99/mo, and pro member $24.99/mo. The star member cost is reasonable but the pro member is too expensive. I got the star member upgrade on the free trial but won’t be going beyond the free trial. The pro member does not have a free trial to try it out. I was hoping to access the lessons but either they aren’t available for the star members or the lessons don’t display properly on iPad or iPhone. Maybe I’m doing something wrong but I also cannot find anywhere to send a question to support. Overall, in my opinion this is an expensive app with little or no support if you have questions like I do. Maybe the developer can respond here if I’m missing something.
too many bugs
I enjoy the app, especially the data and analysis. But a few things aren’t quite right. Glitches with the coins are frustrating, I have had finished games not closing properly, blocking me from starting a new one. I haven’t played enough to comment on the dice situation many others are complaining about.

Free version is very fun with lots off useful features. Plenty of real and AI opponents to play.
Unlucky?
I am astonished at the level of cheating in this game. If any admin disagrees, just look at my “luck” scores. I was really enjoying this game until I experienced this fiasco. It must be that they’re fishing for in-app purchases. Quite disappointing
Some weird quirks
The game play is really good, and the post-game analysis is helpful, once you figure it out. On iPad, the lessons are utterly non-functional in landscape orientation. The answers are all off screen, and one can’t scroll to see them, or even know that they are there. I only figured that out by chance, otherwise I’d have given up on them. The lesson material is weird, too. The questions come before facts or knowledge or terms are introduced. You often have to just guess, then you can find out afterwards what the question was about. This is a minor quibble, but it’s hard to get out of the lessons before finishing a whole section, because the button to confirm disappears very quickly. What is going on with ratings? I was at 900, then jumped to 1500, then jumped back to 900. Exactly those numbers. Nothing in between. UPDATE: now my analysis history says my rating has been 915 for the last 53 games, even though it has been 900 for most of that span.
Awful interface
the analytics would be cool if the app didn’t repeatedly freeze and you lose watching the clock tick down. Beyond that, the interface is clunky and not fun to use. Kind of funny how bad the experience is. Like, who thought this was acceptable? Shows how little they respect players.

Very unfair dice rolls
For a supposedly fair game, I’m getting doubles one out of a four times that my opponent gets doubles. Why is this happening? Why don’t you correct this?
Imbalance between star and regular players
Overall, I feel the game has become less fair for regular players. Star members can send text messages during a match, while regular players are limited to a few preset icons. This creates an unbalanced playing experience because both players do not have the same communication tools. It gives the impression that Star members have the upper hand. Even if that isn’t the intention, it can make regular players feel like they are at a disadvantage. A competitive game should provide the same communication features to both players, regardless of membership status. Another issue is that you can no longer choose your opponent. Matchmaking is now completely random, which wasn’t the case before. Even though there is a system that matches players of similar levels, removing the option to choose an opponent reduces player choice and makes the game less enjoyable. I don’t know if this change also applies to Star members. Please consider giving all players equal communication tools during matches and bringing back the option to choose opponents. These changes would make the game feel fairer and more enjoyable for everyone.
Best BG app
I learn so much from the analysis. It has really made me a better player. The lessons have also been super helpful in improving my game. I appreciate that the team is always working to improve this app, never letting it get stale. I love this app and recommend it often. Also Marc answered me directly when I reached out re an issue I was having once. Doesn’t get more 5 stars than that.
Rigged
Garbage app! Supper rigged and most of all ridiculously buggy.
Bad lag spikes
Even against the bots I get these 10-20 second lag spikes, it’s been fine until I tried out the rated games. I had no idea shorter timed games also had shorter increments. Ah well still love the game. Not sure if IOS issues or not.
Not responding freezing
The app and desktop freezes and not responding on many occasions and causing unfinished matches with huge penalties
Don’t like the Gamified update
I understand the need to try to make a profit off the site, but the new interface is super gamified and annoying. Too much going on and too much of a hard sell. What was once the simplest, cleanest interface to play BG online is now just like every game site that is constantly prompting you to upgrade, buy coins and do a dozen other things you don’t care about. I just want to play a game of BG. If someone wants to play in a tournament, they should be able to click on a tournament tab, but it shouldn’t be the main part of their homepage if they’re not interested. And I don’t need “Daily Challenges” at the top of my homepage - I’m not interested in those either. Most serious players aren’t. Not sure how long I’ll be able to tolerate this new set-up, so hopefully someone else will come along and create a simple site that allows users to just play a game or match.

Backgammon Galaxy is the best online backgammon app that I have ever used. It actually challenges the player. So many apps do not realistically play a challenging game. I have learned a lot about how to play better backgammon through this app

This is first game I played and seems the coin is not fair but when you play against AI it is very hard to keep up
Waste Of Time
Not sure why this game has a high rating but there’s something fishy about the algos that choose your rolls. It seems like once you play for a bit, the rolls you start to get are awful while your opponent (which they say is a human being but you’ll never know if it is or AI). Next thing you know you have 4 on the bar and you’re stuck with rolls that you can’t move. I’ve been playing backgammon for years and for a good stretch played for several hours a day 3-4 days a week and for those who play on a board they know that there is something about throwing your own dice then having an algo choose your rolls for you. It seems that the app wants you to lose chips to the point where you have to buy more to continue playing. Suspect to say the least
Auto roll
For some reason the game switches into auto roll mode at strange times. Makes me suspicious about the whole game
Great for practice
I’m finally taking backgammon seriously after being an on and off casual player for many years. Training against the AI, then testing those skills against real opponents, has been a great combo. The post-game analysis has taught me a ton, and getting instant feedback during AI matches is a nice touch too.
Rolls are NOT random
Absolutely ridiculous rolls and literally 3 to 4 doubles in a row. Completely unrealistic!
Bit sick of the game play
Getting a bit sick of the game play. I was a 1700 player and now at low 1500, continuously losing to worse players over and over again. I’m either on a horrific losing streak or something doesn’t quite add up. Hard to say what’s going on but the points system also doesn’t seem fair when you lose to a worse player. I like the interface and game play but it doesn’t seem fair with the points system and the dice roll makes you feel like throwing your phone across the room. Never used to be like this.
Bonus points
I see bonus points are now awarded every 12 hours of playing time and not every 12 hours. App is lessening in my opinion.
Buy coins?
I paid for an annual membership so why do I have to buy coins?
Very well designed and instructive
I may never figure out the game of backgammon beyond a relatively low level of play, but this app should help me get much better than I am right now. I really like the analysis and the statistics and the lessons.
Double after double
Weird how the more “difficult” AI players get double after double after double after double…
Good but broken
Game needs to seriously close down a bit in terms of size so the upper and lower checkers are not at the edges of the screen (iphone 13 pro) when trying to drag manually im always dragging my screens either notification panel down or exiting the game… which also in turn bugs out the positioning of the checkers on screen

Needs UX improvements
I hit a wall in my skills so started playing here to train. Im suoer excited about the analytics and blunder alerts. However, I’m not paying one dollar until they improve the UX. I can’t follow the AI opponents chips, there is not animation, they just appear in the new spot, which makes it very hard to play.

Great app concept for backgammon players. However, I am frequently paired with much more experienced players, making it difficult to gain ground. Also, although the app setup is good, I experience glitches that takes me out of games or others of a similar nature. Great app, can do better.
gets in you f* nerves
Rigged to the flesh.. 6/6 5/5 two times in a row each or 4/3 3 times in a row while the other guy is getting the exact dice combination every single time to eat you up and it takes 5 sometimes more tries to come back in while the opponent has only 3 houses on his thing and plays like a rookie.. driving me nuttttsssss every single time - writing this review after close to 1200 games played … please improve your dice randomness , i’ve played since i’m 9 years old never experienced this in my life .. // also the AI analysis is nice but will give you no error score if you play like a chicken, taking risks is most of the time not seen as a good moves .. i’m getting 0 mistakes when i’m on high stakes games while playing the safest way possible to finish the game and win my coins then i’m a super human, otherwise when you play strategies and take risks then you’ll be branded as rookie - to sum up, play like a champ in the coin game , and play like a chicken on the rating game to not lose any rating score
the worst app to ever be created
Genuinely the worst app ever. It glitches all the time, diced are not random and it favors members who pay so that you pay. Whoever made this app needs to learn what a good app means. don’t waste ur time

Downloaded today, Played 2 games, 1 of them glitched, now it has been in “maintenance” so can’t access. Oh well!
Polished but not faultless
I enjoy using this app but it is unfair to newer players. I am frequently paired with a much more experienced player who will easily beat me - there ought to be an option to only play people of a similar skill level below 1600. The game favours better players by awarding the same amount of kudos to all players based on performance, when clearly if you are a beginner and you beat a master you should receive a lot more in recognition than a master beating a beginner. This needs to change.
Poorly implemented, no support
If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Timeless advice that the devs decided to ignore in their quest to monetize Backgammon Galaxy. It’s not just the lack of choice of opponent, or need for coins in order to play, but half the time the app doesn’t even work. I’ve occasionally lost thousands of coins due to a software glitch, and then an email to customer support goes entirely ignored. Just bring back the website and charge a small monthly fee to your thousands of players and be done with it.
Love/Hate
Updated review- it’s extremely hard to be competitive in a match when one player is rolling doubles non-stop, or when a player lands the same roll 3 or 4 times in a row. The software needs some work
