Best MS Office Alternative for Mobile
I have been using LibreOffice for a long time on my Mac and I really appreciate its many features and compatability, but I could not find anything comparable for my iPhone or iPad … until now! Every MS Office mobile app I tried just did not have the features or layout that allowed it to be used on a regular basis. I like SoftMaker’s FreeOffice for Mac, though there are a couple of features missing from the paid version that I really need (like footnotes / endnotes). However, these features are not only present on the mobile version, but the layout and features are phenomenal for mobile. I highly recommend SoftMaker’s apps in general, but especially for mobile.

Even though I paid for an entire year $1.49 a month and only used it 2 to 3 times, when I attempted to use it today, it denied me the right to print. Therefore I’m canceling.
Great, free writing app with one caveat
I was looking for something that offered the interface of what you would expect from using Word or LibreWriter on a PC for iPad, and this delivered! Another reason I prefer this is that it doesn’t auto-save to a cloud drive by default, which I prefer to keep my documents offline and upload them when I choose to. My only complaint about the free version of this app is that you can’t use the print feature. I personally feel it’s an odd choice as I believe it’s an essential feature.

Slow and clunky
I thought this app would be a good replacement for Mac Pages, which is being retooled with pay features I don't need, but it's response time is slow when scrolling a document, and the select feature with teardrop handles is awkward and confusing. A nice effort, but it needs refinement. Because of that, I wouldn't recommend it.

Terrible
This program is terrible. Especially trying to get it to save a document. At first I couldn’t even get it to just overwrite the existing document, so I ended up with multiple copies and had to delete the ones I didn’t want. Then, suddenly it decided it COULD overwrite the old document, and everything seemed fine. I chocked it up to just not being familiar with the app. Then this morning I was working on changes to a story I’m writing for over three hours, and constantly pressing the “save” button. I pressed it once more before closing the document and exiting the program. Now, a few hours later I go back to do some more work on my story, and everything I did earlier is missing, as if I never even touched it this morning, and I’m going to have to try to remember all the changes I made and recreate the ideas I had all over again. Why can’t there be a simple word processor for a tablet that just works? I just want to type words and save what I typed. Is that too much to ask?
TextMaker Software.
I’ve used Microsoft Word in the past and find this software a good alternative. I’m not a heavy user of Word, but I find TextMaker just perfect for what I need. Ok, it’s not got the whistles & bells that MS Word has, but in honesty, I find it easier to use, for my needs. I will renew my subs next year and say goodbye to the bloated MS Office.
Sieht gut aus
Endlich eine Pages Alternative die auch ODT Dateien kann. Somit steht dem Austausch der Dateien nicht im Wege. Leider sind wichtige Funktionen, wie drucken und PDF Export, kostenpflichtig. Das rentiert sich für mich nicht, da ich die App nur 3 mal im Jahr benutze.
Sieht gar nicht so schlecht aus….
….. insgesamt finde ich es aber zu kompliziert in der Bedienung und umständlich. Einfach nicht Apple like. Außerdem sind scrollen und einige Funktionen viel zu langsam, sowohl auf dem iPhone 16 Pro Max als auch auf dem iPad M4.
Just works!!
I used SoftMaker’s FreeOffice products on my Windows PC’s for years before my organization required me to install Microsoft 365 products on them. With my 365 license I also installed Microsoft products on my iPad Pro as well which I sometimes use as a backup laptop. In recent months 365 products have been come unusably buggy and glitchy, so I downloaded SoftMaker’s products to try. They work wonderfully! Exact same experience as on Windows. Very user friendly, detailed instructions on how to use, clean interface, very snappy and responsive. Bottom line they just WORK when I need them to, every time! (Unlike 365, which is pathetic given SoftMaker’s budget vs. Microsoft’s budget.) Definitely recommend!

Eigentlich ganz gut
Wenn da nicht das Problem mit der Liste der zuletzt verwendeten Dateien wäre, diese Liste ist bei mir immer leer, egal ob auf dem iPad Pro oder den iPhone Pro. Als Cloudspeicher verwende ich Synolgy Drive, dies sollte jedoch nicht das Problem sein, da andere Apps die zuletzt verwendeten Dateien anzeigen, es scheint ein Problem mit den Softmaker Apps zu sein da sich alle Softmaker Apps sich gleich verhalten!
Reagiert oft spät
Eingefügte Text lassen sich of schlecht bearbeiten. Die Tastatur reagiert sehr sehr langsam. So mach das Arbeiten keinen Spaß.

Looks nice and bright. Sadly other reviews were correct. I can print without a subscription. That’s a non starter so deleteware it is.
The best word processor on the iPad
This is the best word processor on the iPad, and is as fully featured as desktop software. If it supported versioning with Microsoft OneDrive, and if the formatting paintbrush worked better, it would be close to perfect.
Anwenderunfreundlich schränkt Verwendung ein.
Zunächst das positive: Die Anwendung hat einen großen Leistungsumfang. Nun zu den für mich derzeit bestehenden Schwachstellen: Leider ist die Verwendung schwierig. Ein Dokument wird in Vollansicht aufgerufen. Dies bewirkt, dass Schrift unleserlich ist. Auch ist das Einsetzen von Inhalten aus der Zwischenablage ausgesprochen filigran und frustriert in der Handhabung. Erst nach mehreren Versuchen Ist ein einsetzen erfolgreich. Ich habe auch schon verzweifelt abgebrochen. Einen Schreibmodus, der die Oberfläche des Mobiltelefons optimal genutzt, konnte ich noch nicht finden. Die in der Desktop App vorhandene Duden Korrektur habe ich auch noch nicht gefunden. Damit eignet sich diese App nicht zur Schnell-Korrektur von E-Mails vor Versendung. Sehr schade.
Wenn es kein Abo wäre
Für mich wäre Textmaker eine Alternative. Ich bin kein privater oder beruflicher Vielschreiber und finde das Design ansprechender als andere Textprogramme. Allerdings ist ein Abo keine Alternative für mich. Ich würde einen Kaufpreis für angemessen halten aber kein Abo. Daher bleibe ich in der freien Version die auch schon eingeschränkt brauchbar ist. Schade daß es so ist wie aktuell.
Surprise!
I had not heard about TextMaker until I was looking for feature complete writing product for my iPad being for a time away from my Mac. And here it is. So far works great and does it all—MS word defined “All.” I will come back if limitations change my perspective.
Awful
This app is ridiculously stupid, as it doesn’t allow you to write type or make anything new. It just shows you a guide for the app. But nowhere in there does they appear to be a place to create new documents?
Klasse Texteditor…
… TextMaker übertrifft die Funktionen von Microsoft Word für iPad um ein Vielfaches. Dafür vielen Dank, den Entwicklern! Ein großes Aber: der Support ist schlecht und antwortet nicht, weder auf Mail-Anfragen noch im Forum. Und: Will man ein Foto in Textmaker ersetzen, geht das prinzipiell. Aber die Ersetzen-Funktion erlaubt keinen Zugriff auf die Fotogalerie. Man muss also erst das Foto in die Dateien-App verschieben, um es von dort einzufügen. Aber selbst wenn man das tut, scheint die Funktion von dort einen Defekt zu haben. Es wird einfach kein Bild eingefügt.
Bietet als Textmaker NX nicht den Umfang der PC-Versionen
Die beiden Features, die für mich am Interessantesten sind an Textmaker NX, die automatische Übersetzung von Dokumenten mit DeepL und die Nutzung der KI-Integration von ChatGPT, sind trotz der Bewerbung auf den Feature-Seiten der Software NICHT in der iPadOS-Version enthalten. Für Deutschland ist das eine Frechheit, hier gibt es noch diesen schönen Passus mit den zugesicherten Eigenschaften. Die nicht enthaltenen Features werden als NEU beworben, tatsächlich sind sie schon seit Monaten in der MacOS-Version enthalten, auch wenn sie in der iPadOS-Version nur mit Abwesenheit glänzen.
THIS WORD PROCESSOR SORTS!!!!!
It’s amazing that nearly every word processor of the literally 23 I downloaded doesn’t do a simple line/paragraph sort. This one does! (The only other one that did was Textilus Pro, but it has a wonky interface.) TextMaker allows you to customize it for easy access to sort as well. I made mine command-up arrow. I’m subscribing just to support them. Huzzah!
They locked me out of my textmaker on my desk top and now I lost all my documents
I downloaded just so I can leave a review. This is about the company, not just the app I have been using this for years but suddenly I’m locked out, can’t open it and can’t open any document The processor is not worth paying even a cent, if you’re looking for a better version- Microsoft Word is a lot better. This is a rip off and not even worth a penny.

It’s good, I use the pc version mainly. This works but please please implement touch scrolling and select etc more in line with the native apps.

Works like a normal word processor with menu and everything best of all it searches for paragraph marks so its my go to for pasting from one app to another as I work on my novels.
Great App on MS laptop but on iPad ?
Not free if I wish to share or print therefore not much use on iPad. On my Microsoft based laptop there are no such restrictions. I do not understand why it is just not as functional free of charge in IOS version
Almost as Perfect as MS Office.
I would give this app 5 stars because it’s that darn good! The only thing I’m waiting for is (Read Aloud) to help me proof a word document. I hope they can get this feature installed because for me it’s necessary for a better document. It ‘s layout is like MS Office and it looks great too!
Worse than the desktop version
Way more limited than the desktop version. You are limited to only a few things when using it! You can’t export it to a pdf, or use charts. Useless! This should be the same as what’s on the desktop version.
Strange bug thats a little bit amusing
Strange bug thats a little bit amusing I don’t know if anyone else has been having this problem. I’m running a iPad ninth generation. For some reason, it randomly calls up the Text to Speech feature of iOS and starts speaking gibberish. It joins words together in the text randomly. Kind of sounds like a baby learning to speak for the first time.. Or somebody that’s had one too many beers… Think it might have something to do with the accessibility options. I’ve got the accessibility options to speak words as I type.

I can’t believe this program is on the market. I save a document and it disappears. I ask for help and it offers 600+ pages but no search tool. Like I’m going to wander through 600 pages to find out how to delete a document. So awful and awkward to use!!
A beautiful example of “If it isn’t broken, don’t fix it.”
To get the “Bad part” of the review out of the way: It can be laggy when you have complex Tables that need editing, BUT…. This is with the older Pre-Apple Silicon 12.9” iPad Pro (I think that is 6th Gen? It is the immediately pre-M1 12.9” iPad Pro), so when I replace my iPad Pro with the newest M2 Max version, I will edit this review to give an account of the “Laggy-ness” on it. But even with that Lagginess, it allows for the Editing of Complex Tables that Microsoft’s Office for iPad OS DOES NOT ALLOW. And thus is generally useless if the need exists to edit such complex tables. And the Cell Border Editor often causes the program to crash if you try to edit a complex table border that has too many cells enclosed in the edited area. I discovered this can be prevented by editing no more than four cells at a time. So if this program is used to edit the cells into their proper configuration, and then the resulting .doc/.docx with the corrected tables sent to MS Word, where it can be completed with the addition the text in the cells… Then the program here is a Godsend. But the lagginess is why it did not get a full ★★★★★ and instead got a ★★★★☆ (In case those symbols don't show up, that is "… why it did not get a full <five stars out of five> and instead got a <four stars out of five>"). If the lagginess can be fixed, then I would ditch MS Office/Word Completely for creating Documents (and Apple Pages for iOS/iPad OS suffers even worse problems than the lagginess of this Word Processor, which is a nearly fatal flaw of Apple, given how "Brand Loyal" I am — That I am writing a review for a product on Apple's App Store that IS NOT an Apple Product should tell Apple that one of their oldest and most Loyal Customers — I got an Apple ][+ for Christmas in 1980, and have never owned a non-apple computer of any kind — is unhappy with their recent "direction"). It also has problems with adding Fonts to it, where I have been unable to add any of my iOS/iPad OS/OS X/ Fonts to the Font Library. … I will return to this review and edit it to indicate if this problem has a solution. ➲ Now to the GOOD PARTS: Office, by Microsoft, the “Evil Empire” of Software of the past (Apple seems to have dethroned it of late, even if I am committed to the Apple Ecosystem), has a leading Text Editor/Word Processor that works wonderfully, and that worked wonderfully. Yet like most big Software Companies, they tend to make changes for he sake of changes, as newer generations begin to use their products. Textmaker gives you the Classic Microsoft Word Editing Ribbons and Tools. For those maybe a generation older than me (those roughly 60+years of age), this will probably be a relief to have something so familiar and easy to use. Textmaker has about everything that exists in MS Word for iPad, MORE than what exists in Apple Pages for iPad, and vastly more than other Text Editors/Word Processors for the iPad, where it is certain to eventually either force Microsoft and Apple to up their game, or it will likely overtake them. I did not compare this to Google-Docs, which I consider to be in an entirely different "class" of Applications/Programs to the traditional Desktop word Processing, or Publishing Apps.
Excellent Free App-- prefer it over Word!
Recently, I've become increasingly frustrated using Word on the iPad. Despite paying annually for an Office365 subscription, Microsoft Word on the iPad has limited features in comparison to the desktop app and, most frustratingly, doesn't let you change all of the individual line formatting as does the desktop app and noticed that how my documents appear formatted on the iPad in Word aren't how they actually appear formatted when imported into desktop Word. Additionally, I found that Word would not consistently auto-save my work and would lose documents I was working on because of that. Thus, I began searching for alternatives; Apple's Pages is free and nice but rather stark and limited in its features. I then found TextMaker-- an app that I had used on one of my old non-Apple devices more than a decade ago and tried it out. It works great! The free version has all the basic features I would want in a personal (and basic work) word processor, and the controls are easy to figure out (and can be configured in several different styles based on the user preference). If there is something you can't figure out there is a link to an easily readable and indexed user manual! So far, the app is rock solid in its performance (and not tied to an online server like Office 365) and can save documents in Word format if I want (which so far have looked great when imported into Word). In-app purchases are for things that might be helpful but not essential (e.g. covert document to PDF) which seems reasonable. Would highly recommend people consider this app if they are not happy with Word.

I tried to do something and it did what I wanted. However the keyboard covers the text. Also and most annoying I can’t get rid of the welcome text. I press edit and can add text but it’s at the bottom of the welcome page. Not clear how to start a brand new document. Okay did that Saved document. However, when I open the saved document, the program is still trying to edit it. Then the file is not what I saved

Thanks to Softmaker for their response. I was able to find in the app a way to make TextMaker a nice, menu-driven application resembling their excellent desktop version. My whines now are limited to these: -- There's peculiar behavior among embedded links, where a link is not just the linked text but all the text to the end of the paragraph when the document is opened in any other word processor. -- The app behaves unexpectedly when minimized, keeping the document but closing it and opening to a blank screen when maximized again. Strange, irritating, but seemingly nondestructive. -- The app behaves unpredictably when saving an edited document, sometimes simply saving it as expected but sometimes invoking the whole "save as" dialogue instead. Wishlist item: it would be nice if there were keystroke combinations to perform common functions, especially when a hardware keyboard is used, though I understand that this might be difficult or impossible. Another wishlist item: it would be nice to be able to just buy the thing. I'd happily pay even a fairly high purchase price, but I recoil at software rental.
Blast of the past…
I used Office 2003 and later 2010 for decades, being very happen with the old style ribbon menu across the top. Then Microsoft decided that, even tho nothing was broken, to complete complexify the Office menu ribbon. It is insanely complicated, so that TextEdit has returned to a bit of menu sanity is very satisfying.
Lost my saved files!
This would be a brilliant app if only I could find the files I save! As it is I wish I could give it minus five stars! If I could save the files on my iPad that would be a start, but as I can’t even find them on the cloud much less on my iPad this app is going to be deleted for one where I can access my saved files. Which is a shame as this is absolutely brilliant, or would be but for one HUGE fault!
My Favourite Office App.
Great selection of office software, fully compatible with M/S office. All 3 apps work great on IOS, It was a long wait, but well worth it. I was already using the Windows 10 version and I can now work on my laptop and continue on my iPhone or iPad.
