Amazing and easy to use.
I love this app. I use it for day walks and multi day. I even use it to just look at areas I’m trying to research. Plus the customer service function is amazing and the guys are always so helpful. Best mapping app I’ve ever used.
Fraud
First of all there are far better apps out there that don’t get you lost. Secondly despite having cancelled my subscription and the app they still took out a years subscription without informing me they were going to do so which suggest to me they are not a decent company. Edit in reply to response. A decent bonefide company would have sent a reminder before they took money the subscription.
Just one complaint

Disappointing experience
I wanted this to be a modern, simple, intuitive way to plan for outings in the wild. Instead I found the app to be slow, difficult to use, with poor onboarding and connectivity issues. And the help wasn’t great once I’d got it working …
Confusing
The app is OK, it is a mapping app and the maps work. I find it slow, not intuitive, difficult to navigate the screens and you end up wondering how you get back to the screen you left. I had the OS map system before but the cost went up so I decided to change. Maybe it’s the change I don’t like? I can’t find a map legend so I can’t see if the route is a footpath etc. I have not been on a hike with it yet - maybe that’s where it will impress me. Up to now though, it’s not great.
I get so much use out of this
I had the OS app in the past and cancelled it after year one. I was reluctant to pay for another but when hiker offered a reduced price offer I took it up. It’s has proved very valuable and one I will renew. It is easy to use. Create routes is easy. The range of maps is extensive, both the layers in one place and also the geographic spread. I have used it extensively in Uk and Portugal. Being able to save and share routes easily is very helpful. All in all this is one font best apps I’ve used.
The icon doesn’t work
What should’ve been a simple 10mile hike, estimated at around 4.5hrs long has turned into a 6hr hike up freaking mountains and the likes which I have yet to even complete because your icon keeps leading me on a wild goose chase, I’m now exhausted amd still have nearly another 3 miles to go which going of my current pace because of its bullcrap it going to take me another 3, very peeved right now and after I heard such good things
Complicated but excellent value
The app gets better and better with each new version. The latest version has a direction heading arrow which is easy to see, and also has distance markers along tracks. Both excellent improvements over the previous version. The premium topo maps are excellent both in terms of the range of countries covered, and in terms of value for money. They are also extremely high resolution. The downsides of the app are that it takes a long time to get the hang of route planning and of importing GPX files to follow while you’re hiking. The user interface could be improved but at the moment I’d say it’s probably the best mapping app currently available for IOS.
Disappointing
A subscription pay app that leaves you disappointed. Many vital informations are missing or hard to find eg water sources camping spots and mountain huts you can sleep in. The final straw for me was hiking GR 54 and its route is simply incorrect. It just isn’t following the GR route. I’ve had worse apps don’t gets 2 not 1 star for that. Try organic maps for a better experience.
Great app but ….
I don’t like how they group multiple map types together, for instance the Harvey maps. I’d like to see the entire map be the Harvey map version and not have multiple different types all together. It’s definitely my favourite mapping app out there and I will continue to use but I feel map types need to be individual across the entire map view so I can see just that map type
Best app for exploring everywhere
The app is brilliant. Well thought out and constantly updated as a result of user feedback. I messaged at 9.45pm and I got a reply from the ceo. Listened to my suggestion and then implemented it. The webinars are worth a watch, so many features. From phone masts to LiDAR to audio descriptions. Just get it. Thanks guys
Autorenewal with no warning
I have just been charged £29.99 for a renewal with no prior communication. My previous subscription was £14.99. I don’t use the app so feel cheated.
Great app!
I love this app, the only note o have is to add the ability to combine recordings. I have a couple hikes where I paused the recording to take a break and accidentally stopped the recording lol. Everything else about the app is perfect, I just have some recordings I need to add together :)
It’s not all it’s cracked up to be
I have been sat on the fence about this app for some years now. Waiting for it to develop. It was clear to me that the developer wanted to make a genuinely good app. Being a fan of Harveys maps I was excited to see them as part of this app. I checked back in to see how this app was shaping and I kept reading good things. Annoyed by the constant price increases from Komoot, Outdoor Active and OS I was happy to take the punt in the recent sale and pay £15 for a years subscription to Hiker. I was immediately impressed with various aspects of the app. That was until I tried to plan an activity. This was actually a local mostly road ride. I first tried to import a GPX file from another app. This loaded but on the Hiker map it put lines where lines shouldn’t be. It looped back on its self extending my original route recorded on the other app. I gave up and removed the file. I then manually plotted the route. This was fine at the start then for some odd reason kept snapping lines where they shouldn’t be. It also wouldn’t allow me to add an extension to my return near to my house no matter how hard I tried or what input change I made. I have immediately lost trust in this app and feel like I’ve waster my money. There’s a reason the big boys charge what they do. However bitter that pill is to swallow. For now I cant recommend this app but I hope at some point that changes. Because I want to see this become a success.
Promises not delivered.
Purchased the app and realized it wasn’t for me when my favorite and really popular trail was having issues with location. I reached out to support requesting a refund. I had to reach several times because they only respond once and go silent afterwards. They asked for more questions and I provided them a screen record of the issue. They went silent again. They promised refunds and give you nothing back. Do not upgrade thru their website. This is why you only deal through Apple so you can do a charge back through them. Keep my money, scammers! I’m deleting this garbage.
Great App exceptional customer support
Great app. Supports all devices needed (Desktop, iPhone, Apple Watch, iPad) offline maps are great the option to have historical maps is also a superb feature.
RIP off
Very poor app, I think it’s the worst I’ve tried. Caught me in the free trial with a subscription and now has auto renewed at double the price without warning. So many better trail apps. Avoid this one
Mostly Great
Mostly great! Been using this app for a few years now. Has kept us on the right trail more than once. Trail mapping and trail preview are outstanding. My only issues. 1. Why, why, why, no elevation profile when I map a hike?? That should be automatic, across the bottom of every map. 2. Still a little too euro centric for American hikers but seems to be getting better.
Customer Support
Extremely poor support. Never reply to a chat within the published 2 minutes and to date have never answered an email. Software is still in its infancy after 6 plus years. Some good features but lags well behind competitors
Decent maps but only for hiking.
I signed up for the OS Maps but I’m disappointed that the app cannot be used for planning bike rides. Other apps offer similar mapping with greater functionality.
Way better than the competitor
Just switched over from OS app to HiiKER and wish I had discovered it years ago. I agree with other reviewers about the interface, super-quick support and Harvey maps. I also love that you can use miles for distance and metres for ascent at the same time. Also the hike lists for organising your walks and the multi-day hikes feature. OS subscription now cancelled!
Avoid
Incorrectly charged my account and is a nightmare trying to get refunded. I have never encountered such poor communication from a company. The app doesn’t have a lot of trails either, signed up to it for a Norway trip and there wasn’t a single trail in the entire country.
Maps Update
What an amazing update on map quality this week on Hiiker, well done guys you’ve done a fantastic job. These maps are now of such a quality that I could spend hours just exploring them on screen, without ever putting a foot outside the door! 😆 Well done again and thanks to everybody on the team!
Issues
Trails not showing up on the Hiker+ map and forced me to login when I was out in the backcountry. App needs to be fixed

Has some good features however if you are looking for routes to take then you will be disappointed as this app is seriously lacking routes and also route reviews!
Brilliant
An App which provides access internationally to excellent national mapping as we travel internationally for all of our needs. Precise and detailed maps for route planning , whether walking, cycling or driving, it is a resource to turn to. Invaluable.
Auto renewed with no warning
The Hiiker app is fine but I didn't use it much and didn't intend to renew. When I signed up, the welcome email didn’t say the subscription would auto-renew. No warning before the charge; no notification afterwards; and almost three times the cost. Contacted them and got an automated acknowledgment but no reply after a week.
IPhones / Hiiker issue
App options “Time Remaining & Distance Remaining” do not seem to work on IOS unlike Android? Feedback given several times, no fix to date?
funky
Why does it keep "searching" in Ireland and France? I have only looked in Wisconsin. My iPad does not have "location services". When I zoom out the trail disappears, no dot, nothing.
Wee bug fixed then worked well
A trail wasn’t downloading even after I read the support notes, watched the videos, read the faqs etc. I was able to contact the app developers who quickly investigated the issue with the particular trail I was interested in. They devised a fix and let me know when everything was OK. I appreciated their help and responsiveness.
Best hiking App
Been using the app for a few years now, and have used it for multiple hikes from day hikes to long distance with the most recent having completed the Cape Wrath trail last year. While I don’t really use the navigation record functionality I particularly like the ease of use, Topographic maps and the ability to plan all this at what I believe is the best navigation app for the price in its range. Can’t recommend this app enough. Would like to see in future versions a navigation page with info displayed distance, ETA, Time, Distance remaining, elevation loss/gain etc which could be customised for individual use.
So disappointed. Consistently wrong
I’ve given this app so many opportunities. It has consistently let me down and sends you down wrong paths and routes even when you upload a GPS map to it. Waste of money as I bought premium.
Good but could be better
Just migrated to HiiKER after using another app that got SO annoying because of a couple minor issues. Anyway, HiiKER is great but map/satellite resolution could be better when you zoom in and at the moment you can’t put ‘distance/time to destination’ as one of the ‘slots’ which, to me, is the most obvious one to have? Good range of maps available in different countries including historical.
Loved an old feature
Loved an old feature where you could see all the existing routes in dotted red even from the island view, now you have no idea if there’s a route nearby or how many small routes in the area and the routes disappear if you try to make a map bigger to see the surroundings. Going back to mapsme, unfortunately
Disappointed
I initially had issues with my payment being recognised, I paid but when I tried to use the app on a hike it said I hadn’t paid. Then today in preparation for a hike, I downloaded the map before leaving, started navigation, but then paused for a break. When I tried to start again, there was no button to start again, so I now have half a hike recorded, really frustrating!!
Great App!
Used Hiiker for a Scafell hike recently and was thoroughly impressed! Would definitely recommend it!
App kept freezing!
Thought I’d give it a try and after it froze for a third time while exploring from my sofa decided could not trust this while out on the fells. Shame.

Recently changed from outdoor active to Hiiker app and gotta say happy with it so far has mosty same features as outdoor active but less than half the price
Meh
Interface is pretty busy leading to easily clicking unwanted things. Search function doesn’t have the inventory nor update speed of other apps.
This is not a fatmap replacement as it is advertised

Great app
Lots of features especially if you’re planning your own hike whether it be a short hike or a multi-week thru hike. Also great support from the developers who promptly answer questions and respond to feedback to improve the app.
Awful
Awful app. Grossly over complicated. Not intuitive. Open the App you can’t see the map or your location unlike OS Maps app. Appears no short cut to downloaded maps that simply disappear. Very glossy full of hype. Avoid.
Distance measurement
Recently downloaded this app and just started exploring it. It has suggested several hikes in my area, so that makes me happy. However, it’s a little difficult to use when the distance measurement is only in kilometers. Maybe Miles could be added to it also.
Needs a lot of work to improve
This App has great potential but currently I couldn’t recommend anything other than a basic subscription and it can’t be solely relied on for navigation. I would recommend using this App along with another book guide or other maps for whichever trail you are walking. There are some annoying bugs that really need to be fixed and many other improvements are needed to make this App better. Many points of interest are out of date or inaccurate.Points of interest have to be added every time you open the App. It would be good if you could save the points of interest selected for a map in your list or a saved planned hike. Currently when you exit a map or planned route you have to re-ad points of interest. I have the units set to miles and feet but it changes randomly back to meters and kilometres depending on what I am using in the App. Customised features should be permanent through the App unless changed. When using the planning a hike feature it draws a straight line or follows a trail I do not want to include on the planned hike and I get a message that I am not connected to the server when I definitely have a good Wi-Fi connection. The center lines for the Wales Coast Path are not accurate, not sure if this is the case for other long walks in the App. I get a lot of error messages when downloading map layers for use offline so I am not confident that these layers will work offline. Overall this App is a good start and I am ok paying the basic subscription fee but I don’t think any higher level subscription would be worth the cost unless many improvements are made especially for offline use.

Can we get something only free those day I didn’t use the app yet going back home in Morzine Avoriaz in French the alps and planning on doing the TMB but of course want yo get trail detail and all and already have to pay will try but really have to be awesome app if I spent money! 3 start for now the app is easy to use and look nice.
Great App
Have had the app for a couple of months now, and it is by far the best l have used. You have access to various different types of maps, the maps in 3D add another dimension. I am a total Luddite and I can use it. A few teething problems to start with ( my mistakes) but the team behind HiiKER got it sorted and are always on hand to help👍. Game changer in route planning. Buy it you won’t regret it😀
Bad support
I am unable to cancel my subscription. The app says to do it on the App Store but it’s not there. I emailed them almost 2 weeks ago and they never responded. They’ve charged me £40 but I have no way of canceling it or getting a hold of them. I don’t even use the app anymore. Served a purpose and I would’ve used it again but not after this.
Great App for navigation
Love this app. Great online maps (EastWest mapping) and ability to load gpx files. Very simple and intuitive interface.
What’s the point?
I don’t see the point of this app. I’m surrounded by hundreds of miles of trails and within a few hours of National parks and wilderness areas but the map shows no trails anywhere around here. It’s a nice app if you’ve never heard of a few world famous trails or if you’re wealthy and planning to visit some beauty spots but if you’re an everyday hiker don’t bother.
Not enough trails
Great idea but doesn’t have enough trails to be useful to me. Most of the trails I want to do are not on here.
