Great app for outdoor activities
The best app I’ve used for my walking and cycling activities. I can plan very detailed routes myself, follow routes used by others or just totally wing it and always have confidence that I am “never lost”.
Awful app
I hate this app with a deep seated passion. All I want to find routes, select one, then follow it whilst tracking myself. Each stage of this simple process is confusing, badly designed and hard to use. It is clearly deliberate, driven by the app’s developers hatred of Outdoor Active’s sufferers.

I downloaded this app before my first camping trip with a mate. I was dubious about how well it would work in a remote location at first, but when we got a bit lost, this app absolutely saved us and absolutely worked! Would definitely recommend downloading the app for wilderness adventures!

Functionality problems
This app used to work well, but it now seems very glitchy. It logged an entire 4hr walk today as ‘0ft’ and couldn’t locate me on the map the whole time (I had enough signal for Google maps to work and for WhatsApp photos to send), and it crashed and froze multiple times. It sounds like other people have had similar problems recently. It’s really disappointing to have paid £26 for something that isn’t doing what I need.

Was once a good app
This app has suffered from a serious decline in the quality of its route planning functionality that used to be excellent. It is now virtually impossible to plan a route, point to point, that doesn’t use the “Follow paths” function. Other features of the UI have also become less intuitive. For inexplicable reasons the app has been tinkered with to its detriment. I could be so much better and indeed was.
Unübersichtlich
Unübersichtlich: Wenn ich in einem gewissen Areal nach Touren suche, werden mir Icons angezeigt. Wenn ich diese anklicke, wird mir eine einzelne Tour auf einer Karte angezeigt. Weit weg vom Goldstandard einer guten Wanderkarte (verschiedene Touren mit unterschiedlicher Färbung auf einen Blick erfassbar). Sonst mit einer Vielzahl an Funktionen überfrachtet.
Great app
Helps a lot during hiking
Used to be great - now useless
I would score 0 stars but the system won’t let me. Used to be OK, but now the app will repeatedly not allow me to plan routes along clear public footpaths and instead plot routes that are wildly divergent - sending me on A roads in the wrong direction for example. Even switching off the functionality that allegedly follows paths doesn’t fix the problem. Absolutely useless. Basic functionality ruined. How could they be so terrible? Buy any app but this one.

Das Konzept der Suche nach Touren ist anfangs etwas gewöhnungsbedürftig, ist aber nach einer Weile intuitiv und sehr gut nutzbar.
Buggy - won’t recognise eligible tracks
Been using ODA for over a year and at the start of 2026 I was looking forward to the new challenges but immediately the app fails to recognise eligible hiking tracks, even leave the challenge and rejoining the challenge does not help when neither tracks are then recognised unlike last year when challenges took seconds to recognise eligible tracks regardless of when you’ve joined the challenge.

I use it all the time for walks and bike rides, home & abroad. I wouldn’t want to be without it.
Worse app of its kind
I have used quite a few apps for planning routes and following routes whilst hiking and mountain biking. This app has got to be the worse of the lot. It seems to suggest you get Topo maps for offline use but it seems to be hit and miss and I wonder if you can only download one at a time. It is very laggy. The UI is not at all intuitive and it is difficult to work out where the functions you want can be found. I’ve gone back to OS Maps for the UK as well as my favourite and the best app of any kind I’ve ever used which is WorkOutDoors.

Has randomly started recording zero-length
I had been getting on really well with Outdoor Active for some years, but lately it has started recording some tracks as zero length. Also, they don't provide a "download all my tracks" facility and have not replied to a GDPR Subject Access request after several weeks.

Crashes
Used to be great, now crashes or freezes often when in use tracking routes which is a bit of a problem when that is its main job. Will probably have to look elsewhere when the subscription comes up for renewal.
Great App - used for years
I’ve used this app for years now and I love it, it’s had a super reliable connection to gps. I have used it on many trails, mountain bike trips and hikes each have been kept for future reference.

Gerne würden wir 5 Sterne geben, aber nur dann, wenn Outdooractive die Route während der Navigation automatisch umplanen kann beim Verlassen der geplanten Route (so wie z.B. Komoot das macht).

Not sure if I’m missing something?
Dear Outdoor Active, I was a big fan of ViewRanger and was sad when it stopped being provided. I was primarily using it for hiking, paragliding and boating mainly because the data feeds were so customizable. I’m not sure if I’m missing something, or the functionality just isn’t there, but I can’t customize the data displays to show info such Course, Heading, SOG, ETA Waypoint and ETA Destination, etc. If it has this then I would be happy with this app. Cheers, Ian

Easy to use
I often just wonder around strange places seeing whatever there is to see. This a a great way of knowing where you went, where you are and a great way to get back to where you want to be.
Random red boxes?
I’m not sure why I have unsightly, unwanted and not necessary red lined boxes all over my local area maps. Any ideas or help to how I remove them? Cheers

Need to fix battery use!
I really like the routes, the maps, and all the detail but it’s killing the batteries on my iphone. The phone gets hot after a few minutes, really not ideal for a hike.
Pro+ Vorschläge nerven
Seit ein paar Jahren nutze ich die Pro-Version der App für CHF 31 im Jahr und war eigentlich sehr zufrieden. Seit mir jedoch bei der Suche nach Wanderideen dauernd Vorschläge angezeigt werden, für die ich ein Pro+ Abo abschliessen müsste, nervt das sehr. Leider gibt es auch keinen Filter, der mir ermöglicht, dass nur Routen angezeigt werden, die in meinem Abo enthalten sind. Deshalb werde ich das Abo nicht mehr verlängern.
Easy to use app for finding walking routs
I highly recommend this app for hiking, it keeps a historic record of one’s hiking, and shows paths that are missing from both paper and other source maps. Highly recommended
Used to be great….now it’s awful.
Planning routes used to be a breeze with this IOS app. I cancelled my subscription to OS maps for Outdooractive but I’m going back as the planning of routes is absolutely awful now. I don’t know what the developer for Outdooractive was thinking when they came up with this monstrosity. Don’t buy until you’ve tried it.
Great for outdoor
I’ve been usong ViewRanger for a while. At the begining, switching to outdooractive was not so easy. But day by day, I finally discover some tipe to make the app useful for outdoor activities. Congrats to all your team!
Near useless for me
Outdooractive would need to compare favorably to my most-used biking and hiking apps, namely Gaia and Strava. I couldn’t find much in Outdooractive’s favor. To begin with, the app seemed to think I was in Europe. Locations in Italy and Switzerland came up and when I shifted the map to the west coast of the US, nothing appeared. Then click a different part of the app and the focus was on Europe again. I used only the free features, determining that I would pay for the app only if the free features seemed to indicate there were worthwhile additional gems in the paid content. I saw no reason to continue. Deleted the app.
