Busses are a little late, you need internet for this app (duh) tells you when your bus is late and all the yummy stuff
Only ok
Works ok, but it doesn’t save favourites, locations, routes etc. Once you exit app and go back in, all saved locations are gone. What a waste of time.
Wallet Payment
The app is great, but it would be better if the Opal card could be added to google wallet or apple wallet

Hadn’t used opal app for ages thought was rubbish haha since couldn’t add opal card to wallet however the trip planner is very handy idk when they added that in, but it’s very good, keeps you on track to know when to get off the bus since bus stops can be confusing. Looking forward to more changes or additions I suppose to make the app better
Doesn’t work on iPhone
It’s impossible to use on iPhone, I have opal app open with the card on screen to pay but as soon as I go to tap on wallet is opened and it uses my credit card instead. And you can’t add opal card to wallet. Ridiculous. Reply: Thanks, but the card is already added.
It would be very helpful if
It would be very helpful if the Opal app displayed how much more you need to spend to reach the daily and weekly fare caps (e.g. “Weekly cap: $5 remaining”). This would make it much easier to plan trips and know when the rest of your travel will be free.
iPad
Seems I can’t add my contactless credit card on an iPad. Even though it is in my iPhone. Says to go to MORE - can’t find more

Good for trip planning. Terrible for housekeeping jobs like auto topup, changing credit cards, etc.

Cannot register, forget my card all the time, and lose all the details when I switch between apps

This app doesn’t remember the card details. Every time I need to enter details before I top up. Tried delete and re-download still the same issue

Absolutely love this app. Easy to use, fast and accurate. Have used on many occasions when in Sydney. It is especially useful for connecting from country NSW to city. I have never missed a train yet.
Top up function never works
8/10 times I try to top up my opal card through the app the server is down or the app straight up crashes, haven’t been able to use my opal card for 3 weeks now
Pls rename app to “NSW Opal”
Please change the name of the app to “NSW Opal”. I travel overseas a lot and have many transit apps on my phone. Please help me and many others by inserting NSW into the name of the app to identify the app’s location.

Widget not showing saved routes
I have been using the app for a few years and was really excited for the widget functions that allows quicker access to platform information. However when I edit the widget, my saved routes aren’t shown on the options, which means it’s basically useless for me to have the widget taking up the space on my screen. Please could someone fix it!

Train walking connections have gone
Since I updated the app, the “walk to the station” and “walk from the destination station” are not displayed or calculated on my iphone or iPad. When you tap the “Walk” option “no results found. Please try another transport mode or search for a different location”. Is the app now programmed to expect patrons to have a car at the destination station get to where you’re going? I understood “active transport” such as walking and cycling was encouraged. Seems rather pointless to require car connections at departure and destination stations as apparently required by this new version of the app. Most people would assume that walking would be the default means to get to and from stations when close enough to not require a bus connection. Just updated this app to version 10.5.7 and the trip planner still refuses to provide “walk to the station”and lists only car travel times to the station. What is the logic here? Why don’t your developers add a button to allow patrons to turn off car connections as is likely to be the case for the majority of commuters who walk to and from stations? Isn’t the purpose of this app to provide timetable and trip planning information for the state’s public transport network? If so, why is private car travel even included as a connection option?

This app is so bad, it doesn’t update times on trains or buses, it doesn’t show you when a bus is early or when it’s going to arrive on time, this app has made me miss work so many times and it’s infuriating! Do better.

having a lot of issues
sometimes i can’t top up because there’s an error in the system, sometimes it’s because i put an “invalid card information” when i literally did it right. Opal has so much problems with it’s system
Worked well for a visitor
I downloaded the app when I arrived and have used it all week. It hasn’t let me down and seems very intuitive. Only slight gripe is that I’ve struggled to get info about some terms used in the Sydney travel vernacular e.g. what does ‘pre-pay only’ mean in terms of tapping on and off with a contactless card? Loved getting around using all the different public transportation and this app made that possible with confidence.

App does not read card NFC? Please fix
Yes yes I know apple did not allow nfc read until recently, but this has changed with iOS 13. So no excuses, please fix this and add the card nfc read to the app.

It’s good app but there are a few issues
It’s a good app for NSW Public Transit and keeping update with your opal balance and train/bus/ferry/light rail schedules real time but there are a few issues with the app. First it logs me out for no reason, two when it logs me out the app freezes and won’t allow me to log back in. It’s quite a pain. If you could fix those key problems it be much appreciated. Thank you ^_^
What is the point of this app?
Bemusing at best for 2025. You cannot use your iPhone as your Opal card (???). The app’s trip planner can’t find nearby stations nor match a partial station name. Google Maps does this trivially. All I’ve been able to do is register an Opal card, and hope that if I ever lose it then I can actually use this app to transfer the balance to a new physical card. Bonkers.

Terrible user experience
It’s hard to log in, add money, or do the basic things needed to use Opal cards. The developers prioritised bells and whistles over the basic functional requirements users need. Did they ever do novice user testing or was the app just tested by the developers?

App is stuck in some weird “less walking” setting
For some reason the app has started only showing me directions that minimize walking. So now if I’m trying to check timetables for my usual commute, which was usually a ferry + 30 mins walking or a bus + 20 mins walking, it’s now only showing routes that involve 5 mins or less of walking. There seems to be no place in the app to change this preference and it’s basically useless to get directions that add 30 minutes to my commute and three extra transport methods just to shave 20 mins off a walk. Super frustrating!

An Unreliable Dog’s Breakfast
Transport for NSW advise us to use this app but it has so many shortcomings. The search function & recommended journeys are hopeless & if you do wish to provide transport feedback it’s a very complicated procedure. You get the feeling that Transport for NSW isn’t really interested in what public transport users think or making their journey better. Notifications, try to expand them & hit with unable to connect to server screen. As regular public transport users & staff know better to use other apps NextThere or TripView, even Google & Apple Maps are better, more dependable. Leave the kids learning app development at this app to struggle on & send out their prewritten we need more information messages.

Freezes about 75% of the time
The app is mostly intuitive, but rather unstable. Most of the time, it will freeze and must be closed and reopened, sometimes multiple times.
The programmers must be sadists
The app intentionally disables the ability to paste an opal card number when adding a new card. Too much focus on flash. Too little on ease of use.
When can you use Apple Pay?
I really hope one day I will be able to use my Opal Card registered instead of using Visa/Mastercard that doesn’t have Weekly Travel discount.
Live timings?
What's the point of this app if the live timings of trains/buses doesn't work?

Cannot scan the card using phone. Option is seen in other versions where any other card is scannable to know the balance.
