DO NOT USE THIS APP
I’ve been a regular Ampol customer and have used this app to pay for fuel countless times without a single issue. I’ve always paid through the app, in good faith, assuming everything was working as it should. Then, out of nowhere and with zero warning or notification, I was hit with the bombshell that a previous payment had supposedly failed. Instead of a simple alert, I was blocked from fueling my car normally and forced to deal with "Fuel Recovery Services" complete with extra fees, stress, and being treated like I intentionally drove off without paying. Apparently, Ampol updated their payment process to require a pre-authorisation, which is fine, but they gave no clear warning when a payment actually failed. If a system glitch or app change causes a payment not to go through, why on earth isn't the customer notified immediately? How does Ampol think it’s acceptable to stay silent and instantly escalate a loyal customer to a debt recovery issue with penalty fees and massive hassle? I’ve used this app honestly from day one. To be penalized and made to feel like a criminal over a silent technical error on their end is completely unacceptable. If you use the Ampol app, be extremely careful. A payment glitch you don't even know happened can turn into extra fees and a massive, unnecessary nightmare out of nowhere.
Need more cards support
How about adding support for other cards like Amex, dinner club or perhaps PayPal?
Store staff don’t scan app code
The QR code in the app says scan in store when you go into the store they say they cannot scan it and it can only be used in the app so any of the discounts don’t occur. If you pay in store there is no way to use Ampol cash in the app.
App logging me out
App keeps logging me out after a few days of not using it. Have to sign in each time I open it to charge.
Great if you live near an Ampol
This is the most well designed service station app I’ve used. Friction-free, convenient, and a pleasure to use. Very visually pleasing, too.
Don’t waste your time
Quicker to go to the cash desk than mess around with this crock.
Doesn't work when "Precise Location" is disabled
My first attempt to charge using the Ampol app was a fiasco, and to jump to the end of the story the problem is that this app doesn't work unless you have "Precise Location" enabled in Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services > Ampol. I stood around a carpark this morning looking like a creep, unable to work out how to start charging our car, and hassling passers-by for help. We compared what they see in the Ampol app to what I see, and they had a different UI with options to charge the car... whereas I did not. Their phones showed a detailed list of charging points and a button to start charging, whereas my phone showed just basic information and no button to start charging. They were as confused as I was and then made excuses to get away from me. Eventually I realised that the Ampol app doesn't work when "Precise Location" is disabled in the iPhone settings. It seems that you have to be pretty close to the charger for it to show you options to charge there, and the app reckoned that I wasn't close enough (I was of course standing right next to the charger). What's worse is that it wasn't apparent this was a problem. There was, for example, nothing saying "move closer to charge" or a button to start charging that is disabled until I get closer; instead there was just no indication on how to start charging, and no information their quite extensive in-app help about how to start charging, or that you need to be physically close to the charger to start, or that "Precise Location" needs to be enabled in iPhone settings. Anyway I worked it out eventually. Then a few minutes later when I checked my phone I accentally tapped 'Stop' on the Ampol app when trying to switch apps and that cancelled my charging session. I couldn't restart it so I had to go back to the car, unplug the charger, plug it back in, then start again. At least the car got charged properly; other than that just about everything else went wrong.
App is good
App is good and helpful. But in payment the gift card option is not there
Pay at the pump
Saves a walk in store , great idea , invoice gets emailed immediately.
Fails at its only job
This app is pathetic! It can't process fuel payments, which seems to be it's only job. Either using my card or Apple Pay. Even worse is the absence of support provided. Business hours Monday to Friday only! Wow! The store can't take my payment as the app has the details so I have to call Ampol in a few days to sort it out. I'll go back to paying in store.
Can I pay with cash?
Another organisation demanding too much personal information.
Best for usability
I like this app the most of all the apps from other charging providers. Really simple to use, and allows for easy changing of payment options. The charging status screen is perfectly simple and easy to read without my glasses on.
Buggy
After selecting a pump and filling petrol, the app was frozen.
EV Charging Info Missing
When charging my EV, there is almost no info that is displayed about the charging session (all 0), so don’t know state of charge or price (happened at a bunch of Sydney EV chargers), please fix this. App does work for starting and stopping charging but not good for info about charging sessions.
Reliable
It's been a while now so i can say for sure, it never lets me down and it's quick. Good job Ampol
Inconsistent
App drops out and no email to confirm payment, was reliable before the update of pre filling. Twice in a month I’ve driven off without payment.
App is okay could be improved by showing the price of fuel
Would like to see the price of fuel to find the cheapest fuel on the way home or going out
App doesn’t even work
You can’t login, you can’t see the locations and half the buttons aren’t clicking or loading
Never shows chargers
Im sitting at the station there are 9 chargers and not a single one shows on the app. Others are plugged in but won’t display for me.
No longer works
I prefer the new system, however my last two fill ups the app just doesn’t work, it still stays stuck on the screen saying to start filling up.
Doesn’t work anymore
The new update has meant that it never works when I fill up my car. I set it up before filling and then there is always an error and I have to pay inside. App is now useless.
Latest update broke ease of use
The latest update requiring prepayment is understandable, but Ampol haven’t made it clear how close or far you are from the service station your pre-paying at. Not useful when you are in an unfamiliar area.
