im spoiled now
I'm almost mad that Fastmail is so good, like, why can't every email website be like this? it just does what it's supposed to do. period.
Copy paste doesn’t work
Copy pasting is adding indents and spaces that don’t exist
Clean, reliable email app with room to improve
Fastmail is a solid, privacy-friendly email app that feels simple and focused. It works well for daily email, has a clean design, and is less distracting than many big email apps. I like that it feels made for people who actually want control over their inbox. My main complaint is that some settings and advanced features can feel less polished or less intuitive than Gmail or Apple Mail.
Launches to black screen A LOT
This app is overall good, but it launches to a black screen A LOT. I have to kill the app entirely and re-open it for it to load. Please resolve this, it’s pretty frustrating.
UI issue
Great service and app normally but the recent update has now made the UI scaling really tiny and fonts are really small! Can’t see any setting to chane this beyond selecting their font or the system font which makes no difference to scaling.
100% happy and impressed!
I've been a Gmail user FOREVER. However I ONLY use it to send mail from my own custom domains. That process has always been a bit janky at best but I had it working. Then I read that they are getting rid of the "send as" alias feature for free accounts. Even workspace accounts are somewhat more limited than I liked. Down the rabbit hole I went. Someone recommended Fastmail, so I started researching and experimenting along with several other solutions including just using the email service I could have with my web host since I already pay for that anyway. The more I dove into Fastmail the more impressed I was. I loved everything about it. It just feels smoother, better, more elegant, customizable, and well thought out in every way. I was going to wait and see if/when my Gmail aliases stopped working before jumping to another service, but after dipping my toe in, I just made the jump yesterday. Now all my domains are here and it feels like home. The whole process was easy. Importing all my mail, contacts, filtering rules, and domains. Syncing my contacts with my iPhone. GREAT documentation on everything including setting up the DNS records at Cloudflare. Hopefully I never need to switch again because Fastmail absolutely rocks. Just really, really impressed. I haven't even had to deal with support yet to find out how that is.
Great product - app, no so much
Used to be fast loading, quick to your inbox. Now it can take from 1 to 2 minutes just to get into the app! Bring back the old fast version!!
HTML view shows toooo small on phone?
Can you please fix it? No one in my company is able to use it otherwise, too small text in HTML view.
Notifications Action
When I receive a notification and take an action on it like “delete” it doesn’t delete I open the app and it shows the mail I received even though I deleted it by swiping down the notification and delete the received mail. In app Notes doesn’t support apple pencil which makes no sense of writing notes it’s just as a notepad where notes should be typed.
No option to change tiny font size
I like Fastmail but the font size on iPhone is tiny and there is no setting to change this. And it does not respond to font size changes in system. It’s not good.
Glad I switched back
I had a Fastmail subscription many years ago. After having issues with my current email hosting service I decided to switch back. Everything has improved significantly. Love the dedicated apps, migration feature and generous storage. Definitely recommended.
great service, buggy app
Ive been using fastmail for about 6 years now. The fastmail service is great but this app is buggy. The main reason I was using this app instead of apple mail is because the fastmail app easily allows replying with aliases (*@mydomain.com). However it turns out apple mail can do this, but the caveat is you have to manually set up the account (skipping past the error that it cant connect via SSL, and going back and manually setting the port to 465), and then manually adding each alias, and manually selecting the alias at send time. That’s all very cumbersome, but preferable to the bugs in this app. The iOS app just hangs all the time. For example, almost every time I click a notification, the app just shows some orbiting circles. it doesn’t matter how long I leave it, it never resumes and I have to swipe the app out and restart, losing track of whatever email I was trying to see. as of today, the app doesn’t work at all. even after swiping out, it just will not load anything.
Requires Updating Swipe Settings
When scrolling up/down with my thumb in the inbox, it is too easy to swipe slightly to the left and delete a random email. Fastmail support response: You can increase the movement required to trigger an action by changing it to a long swipe only, or even disable the swipe actions entirely, in Settings → Custom Swipes. Not ideal default settings.
wish it was smoother
The service is good, but I wish the app ran at a full 120fps, taking advantage of modern iPhone variable refresh rates. Without it it just feels very clunky and not smooth like the native mail app
Great service, terrible mobile app
It seems that no one at Fastmail uses the iOS App. I hope one day you folks create a native app, because the service is great but the app is unfortunately buggy and clunky, and there is no other option with all the Fastmail features available.
Switch to Fastmail. You won’t regret it
Fastmail has tons of flexibility and features, but does a great job of staying out of your way. And being able to reach out directly to real humans for support is incredible. Plus, having masked emails built in, custom aliases, and unlimited(!!) custom domains and catch-all addresses is unlike ANY other email provider that I’m aware of. And trust me, I’m aware of almost all of them. The company is employee/owned, so no mega-corps here. Plus, according to job listings on their website, their support staff is unionized, which is awesome! As far as alternatives are concerned, Gmail and others scan your emails for targeted advertising, which is just not good. Plus, they’re the incumbent, so they haven’t had to meaningfully innovate in over a decade. Proton advertises end to end encryption for your emails, but that’s only really true when you email another proton user. At that point, just use Signal; it’s WAY better. Fastmail has a whole blog post on this topic. Plus, Proton’s CEO has said some… politically unaware? questionable? things in recent years.
Great email service! Terrible app :(
The app has never been their strong point but it’s been especially broken for the last month or so
Excellent service
The service is amazing. The app is pretty good. My issues with it are that it’s basically just the website in an app. It doesn’t support background refresh. You have to wait a few seconds to see new emails load when you open the app. It’s pretty basic and plain and sort of dated as far as design goes but contains all features and options the web app offers. (You only need to go to the website for billing. You can do everything else in the app.) The aliases and masked email features are top notch and so is their support team. They’re fast, polite, and helpful!
Absolutely worse than the website on mobile
You should be aware before downloading this app that opening it takes a full 6 seconds every time. It's always faster to just go to the website on mobile
Needs Some Things
Needs Copy To function and the ability to edit the FROM field during Compose.
Better than iOS mail app
Love the app, it very quickly replaced the default mail app for me. Great service, reasonably priced, and does everything I could want and more. The masked email address feature is top notch and easily worth the fee alone if it weren’t for everything else you get.
Great app, but now so slow to load
This is a great app, but in the last week or so loading times have become painfully long. I now wait up to 10 seconds to see my emails, which feels like the opposite of ‘fast’.
Best Webmail Ever
I’ve been using Fastmail for over ten years. It’s fast, intuitive and most importantly to me - they don’t keep changing the interface. It’s modern and responsive. Their spam protection is top notch too.
Love the service. Hate the app.
My god the app gets worse with every release. It now hangs or crashes on loading up, and often takes 30-60 seconds to load up - if it does manage to open that is. The web app is much better. Best using this in Safari for the time being I think.
Great service, slow app
5 starts for fastmail service, 2 stars for the app. Unfortunately it is frequently really slow, and notifications are slow to align or correct.
Best Provider Out there
Fast, private, and dead simple. No ads or tracking that I can notice just a blazingfast inbox that handles custom domains and aliases flawlessly. Best email switch I’ve made
Updated app is still a PoS
I’m STILL having to kill the app and restart it regularly because it just shows a blank screen. Are the devs just vibe coding this app?
For the most part it’s good
My gripe is that it’s difficult to switch between the mail and the calendar. Also from time to time, I see a black screen and need to restart the app. I also wish there was a calendar widget.
Unreliable
Horrible app. I never know if it will actually load my inbox when I open it. I needed an emailed coupon while standing at the register and ended up paying a higher price because this stupid app didn’t load. Should’ve known better than to depend on this garbage given that this is a recurring issue. Their desktop client is great, but use any other mobile email app.
Good but basic
Have been a user for years and don’t plan on leaving anytime soon. The service is solid and the support is good. The apps and overall UI/UX are pretty dated though. I’m not advocating for Liquid Glass (I would advocate against it actually) but Fastmail overall is more utilitarian than anything else. The iOS app still hasn’t adopted things like home screen widgets. That’s a pretty big miss in my workflow and causes me to still rely on the iOS calendar app. I wish Fastmail would trail blaze more in these areas of leveraging the abilities of the OS and refining their design and visual appearance.
Finally an Email Service Focused on Email
After using Microsoft 365 and iCloud+, I switched everything to Fastmail for my personal and business domains, and honestly it has been a great experience. The app is extremely fast, clean, and focused without all the extra clutter and upselling. Email, contacts, and calendar sync perfectly between my iPhone and Mac. I also really like that Fastmail feels simple but still very powerful. Push notifications are instant, the interface is clean, and managing custom domains was much easier than expected. A lot of reviews here complain about things that honestly haven’t been an issue for me. If you want a professional, privacy-focused email service that just works reliably, Fastmail is excellent.
24 hours to reset a password??
If you forget your password and have to reset it, they say it takes 24 hours to update their system. I cannot believe in this day and age it takes them 24 hours to update a password. It’s utterly ludicrous to think that you would lock people out of their accounts for 24 hours for a password reset. And good luck getting ahold of anyone. I should have gone with Google Workspace…
The white screen is back
Launching produces a white screen again requiring killing the app and relaunching. Regression issue?
Notifications stopped
Somehow notifications in the app went to “custom” which apparently means from no one. I haven’t got a notification in weeks and hadn’t noticed. Just turned it back to “All” in the app and it’s working again.
Free Trial Should Be Free
I tried this email service over the weekend. I have been looking for a solution to my other mainstream email services. After spending hours setting up my folders just how I like them, creating rules, and transferring ALL of my Microsoft emails over I can not use one single bit of functionality of fast mail. Apparently, they were free enough to take all my data, but not free enough to let me send or even unsubscribe from an email. It kept asking me to “pick a plan”. I thought I had 30 days? Five dollars a month seems like short money and I almost paid it. Of course they want the year up front, so I decided to delete my account. How am I supposed to pay for something I don’t even know if I like using? I transferred 117,000 personal emails from my Live.com account and I can’t hit “unsubscribe” on an email in my fast mail account without hitting a paywall??? I feel like I got scammed. Now they have all my data - lesson learned.
The best Email service yet
I switched to Fastmail to help me see the important mail through all the junk. I added rules to classify mail as it comes in. Fastmail uses Sieve for its rules engine. It does things that Outlook/Exchange can’t do. Fastmail search works far better than Outlook and it is very fast. Fastmail support is excellent.
No EU option; vague support
It was a good run, but I feel like Fastmail’s product development has stagnated. There’s no EU residency option, like those available from Google Workspace and Microsoft 355. Don’t use this for business at all - use one of the big players. Fastmail’s support is certainly more responsive than Google’s, but they’re not typically quality responses. If it’s for personal use, and you’re fine with your data being stored in the country Trump’s presently alienating from the rest of the world - then have at it. It’s fast, it’s Mail. It’s McFastmail.
Wish I could log directly into Office365
If I could only log into Office365 directly (work requires it), then I could finally ditch all the other third-party clients (Apple Mail, Outlook). Alas, I still need a separate client to log into my work emails. Kinda stinks. Anyway, here’s a vote for making that happen!
Buggy when left idle in the background
Love the FastMail service! But, as another reviewer mentioned many months ago, the app gets stuck in a non-functional state after sitting in the background idle for a while. Not always, but often enough that it’s clearly not a fluke. I’ve also started seeing cases where I leave a draft email up while switching away to another app, and it’s lost when I switch back. Please investigate and fix these glitches.
Like the app, however it is buggy
I like the mail app. Have used it for years. My main problem is it freezes and have to reset it manually every other day. It happens when I open my phone or iPad after being turned off. The only fix is to remove the app then reinstall it.
Excellent Technical Support!
I have been using Fastmail for over a decade and think it is the best. Very reasonable cost, highly responsive and knowledgeable technical support, and they respect your privacy. 100% recommend.
Crashes constantly
Happy Fastmail customer for many years but the iOS app is just frustrating. As many others mention, the app constantly hangs when opening and just shows a white screen. Requires me to force close and then reopen. I held off writing a review because I assumed such an obvious issue would be fixed quickly, but it’s been over a year now.
Great app but missing one key feature
Surprisingly, this is a solid email app. In fact, it’s my favourite email client on iOS (and I’ve tried probably 10 different clients out). One big feature is missing though, and that’s offline mode! How can that be? This app does everything so well, but it doesn’t have such an important feature. Hopefully it’s added in the future so I can give this a 5 star rating.
App seeing a decline
Constant crashing and white screen, emails freeze when loading
Does it’s job without style
This app is powerful and does most of what I’d expect, however I find it slow and laggy when tapping around and the calendar view feels very outdated coming from google calendar. Everything functions well but the style alone has me using apples native apps instead. It feels like it isn’t optimized for iPhones with 120hz displays with the scrolling.
The Best Email Service. Period.
This is the best email service ever. Complete and utter control of your email. Hundreds of aliases. Custom domains with an insane amount of subdomains. Lightning fast JMAP. Integrates with everything. No other email service even comes close. Seriously. This is it.
Useless
Fastmail is great, and I’ve been a happy paying customer for years. No offline mode makes the app utterly useless though. Who’s galaxy brain idea was it to just wrap a web view? Completely the wrong decision. Write a native app, and make it work offline. It’s not that hard.
Great service, great app!
Overall Fastmail offer a really good service and product. I’ve been a paying customer for years now. What I would really like to see in the app that would make the ease of use so much better for me would be the following: Move the ‘unread’ email filter to the top of the list so I can quickly see all of the unread emails that have been filtered into folders in one place. If an email is received to an alias that isn’t set up yet, allow me to reply with that alias. If those two points were changed this app would be the perfect email app ! Thanks for all the good work.
Have to restart constantly
Update: 6 months later after my first review below and the app is still not fixed. If anything, it’s got worse. I have to constantly force quit the app pretty much every single time I want to use it. I’m paying for their service, so I expect better. Won’t be renewing my sub and I’m in the process of moving to a better provider. Dropping my score to two stars. ———- Great email app, but… of late, the app just shows a blank screen and you have to restart the app to get it to work. Happens about two or three times a day. The app never used to do this.
Still needs tweaking to restore functionality
I just applied the latest update. I am now back to being able to execute mass selection operations, however, this is only possible on my iPad when I use fingers/touch. It doesn’t allow it when I use the trackpad or any keys on my attached Magic Keyboard. It would be useful if this is addressed since I’m better there will be other functionality that works with my fingers and not the keyboard.
