Let me choose dark vs. light mode
The latest update, 26.8.40, apparently uses whichever mode you set in your phone’s general settings. I am not able to run AllTrails in light mode with my phone set to dark mode. This really, really stinks! Until now I would have given the app 5 stars; now it’s just one 😢

I love AllTrails! I just wish they didn’t change it to pay for more features, but hey that’s how the game works!
No longer my go to!
I used to love all trails. I could download maps and routes. Record my routes while out of cell service or with no connectivity, and when I was back in cell service, my routes and activities would load. I guess with the latest “upgrade“ that no longer happens. I am often out of cell service and no longer do my activities save to my profile. I have tried logging out and logging back in. I’ve tried deleting the app and reloading it still it does not work. I contacted “support“ and the AI “scout“ was unable to help me. The AI scout told me that a human would contact me to help resolve the issue and that has never happened. All trails has really gone down the toilet with the last. “ upgrade”. Either that or my pro sub subscription no longer gives me this option and now I need to upgrade the peak or something. Who knows!
US-centric 😡
I’ve only just started using this app to test it out. Immediately, there are two problems: 1. The units keep reverting to Imperial every time I move away from the app, including when the app is open but the phone goes to sleep. I am sick of continually having to go through umpteen clicks to select Metric - time after time! 2. The price to upgrade does not indicate the currency. I’ve finally discovered that it’s USD, which converts to nearly double the cost when fees are added. At least be upfront about the currency and have USD appended to every instance of the price. Since I can’t get sure that the units won’t keep reverting to Imperial even on a paid plan, I won’t be purchasing at this cost

Not For Road Bikes
This app may be very good for hiking but it is a time waste for cycling trails. When choosing Road Cycling, invariably what is produced are mountain biking and pure hiking trails. I would like a refund
Hidden Lake Glacier National Park
This hike lead you to a beautiful lake , it’s a climb, about 1.5 miles up a steady vertical climb of about 600 ft elevation climb over the mountain. I’m 70 made up the trek but wife stopped because the climb was too strenuous. It’s more vertical than a lot of trails I’ve hiked with a nice boardwalk covering a majority of the hike until you get to the last 1/2 mile which is a dirt trail. I saw many different groups making the trek but not many seniors or if I did they were challenged. I suggest using walking sticks. The final steps are worth it and the trail back took me only 45 minutes without stopping but the hike up I stopped every 100 - 200 yds for resting. If you’re are in your 40s you won’t have much of a challenge but us elders it was challenging but worth it.

Pas fiable. Quand on telecharge une carte et qu'on est en mode avion, sur iphone 15 pro max, dernière version en date de l'apps. L'appli finit par planter. Quand on la relance elle plante à nouveau au moment d'afficher la carte jusqu'à avoir de nouveau du réseaux. Pire moment pour le faire quand on a besoin de trouver son chemin. impossible a utiliser en mode hors ligne donc. et donc inutile voir dangereux lors des treks itinérant

Crashes in offline mode
This app worked great till I tried to use it on a longer hike. After about 4 hours the app froze and was completely unusable.

The apps guidance on how to cancel does not work for me. It does not show in my list of subscriptions and no other cancel mechanism is provided. Beware for the “Free Trial”!!

The worst connected health app on the App Store
The app only features connections to 3 services, none of which are the big health social apps, e.g. Strava. Apple health is an option, but for whatever reason All Trails chooses not to share location data to Apple health; the route/map of activity. So third party connection apps such as RunGap don't work. This feels very much like All Trails trying to protect their walled garden of user data at the expense of user satisfaction, and all it's done is make me question why I'm wasting my time with an app that doesn't value my time. And I'm saying this as a paid app user. I'm preparing for a 150 mile Himalayan charity trek, my sponsorship page allows linking of fitness apps to track progress. All Trails doesn't support it. 🤦♂️
Depletes iPhone battery, poor trail guidance
In 2h19 minutes iPhone battery depleted to 15%. The app directed me to two different routes around the same pond leading to the same place and both were wrong. It then tried to direct me through a thick bush with no trail whatsoever. When I found the third, correct trail, app said I was off the trail again (not true). I ended the hike in the app as I got very frustrated and used Apple Maps instead to find my way. Relying on AllTrails seems unsafe to me.

Good but Expensive
Its really great to have but To expensive for the upgrade.
All Good Features Now PAID
Used to use this anytime was in a new area and wanted to find a place to explore. Now there is a paid version and ALL good features require you to upgrade. Trail Previews, Directions, Photos by others all prompt you to upgrade to paid and you can only choose Annual so you can’t even try it for a month to see if you like it. I’m leaving All Trails unfortunately. It has become a money grab
A must for every hiker
I LOVE AllTrails. It tells me what I need to know about a trail; difficulty, length, elevation gain and an estimate of the time required to make the hike. I can download the map before the hike in case there is no cell service on the hike. It gives driving directions to the trailhead. It even gives others’ reviews of each hike. I LOVE it and you will too.

Lots is errors and wrong information… Would have expected a better app given the cost…. Don’t recommend…
Very good - Needs improvements
I really enjoy using this for finding trails, but it’s not perfect. When creating a map it can be tricky and glitchy. And I don’t think we should have to pay to download the map offline, this is a basic safety feature that we should be able to access especially in bad weather alone. There’s a good option of trails and easy to track them
Unsafe change
The recent removal of the Apple Watch compass function in favour of stats tracking is unsafe. The compass feature has at times provided a safety function by getting you back on track this is especially useful when there is no cellphone coverage. You now have to pull your phone out to see where you are. App developers have got their priorities wrong and are putting users safety at risk.
Too difficult for me!
Found the trail to be steep and rocky, we (and 2 others);lost the trail at one point and the downloaded app did not let us know, only said “data unavailable” causing at least a 30 min delay. The last mile to the top of Jackson is very steep, climbing on rocks, so I had an extremely hard time (I am 76 yo). I only continted so I wouldn’t have to go back down the same way. Trail was wet, with slippery rocks , especially going down the Webster portion. Definitely my last time doing this one!

Beautiful dope app
Only Limited Use - Even with Plus
I decided to get a discounted Plus membership for a year. Waste of money. I used it for the first time on a 3 day hike. When you stop to search the map it closes the map and asks you to review the trail each time. It doesn’t even give me a distance to some point along the current trail. It asks me to upgrade to another “Peak” tier for that. The app and website hide that there’s even a peak membership until you already upgrade to plus. Very deceptive. Only good for one day trails if you don’t explore off the trail! Plus was a waste of money even at a 50% discount.
Great but needs Canadian layers
Great app but removed a star for not including Canadian wildfire and smoke map overlays. When selecting a strenuous or hard hike, this information is essential during wildfire season. Now I have to consult 2 different maps. Would pay if it had these layers. All in all, very good app, though.
Bug lorsqu’on en a le plus besoin…
J’avais longuement hésité entre Komoot et AllTrails, me suis finalement décidé pour prendre l’abonnement AllTrails. Tant que j’avais du réseau tout allait bien. Mais dès que j’étais offline, et malgré la carte téléchargée, l’app s’ouvrait puis sautait et se fermait sans pouvoir consulter la carte. Et ce dans les moments où j’en avais le plus besoin… J’ai fait confiance et pensais même prendre l’abonnement Peak, mais avec ces problèmes je pense même repasser chez Komoot parce finalement je ne peux pas faire confiance… Trop de bug.
Like it but it’s buggy and laggy.
Update: Double payment tier seems like too much when the basic functionality of loading pictures on someone’s profile is so laggy that it effectively doesn’t work. Update: App continues to crash consistently. I love this app but I’ve been trying to make some lists and add photos this morning and it’s probably crashed 20 times. Feature Request: please add a default trail attribute which are the passes that are required to park—have them be updated by majority vote like how on Google Maps obstructions and construction are flagged by users. Feature Request: need to escalate better photos to trails and allow for more photos to be seen by the location on the trail.
great for beginners or pros
I love using this app to track my miles on my walks, and in my opinion the free version does enough that i dont need to spend money on the premium version!
Boring and useless
Basically for the people who hike for insta🤷♀️ there’s no actual variables only views and length, and majority of the trails are concrete leading through the city even if you click the big button labeled “Forrest”. Definitely a good app to make it look like you hike, but barely usable for someone who actually enjoys hikes. It’s easier to just use the Facebook groups, more honest and not spamming a 70$ payment plan in my face every time I type a letter

Very disappointed, with the seemingly alteration of trail descriptions and incites they seem to be generic now which is very disappointing.
Apps fails to download offline maps
Talked to their support team and they are unable to resolve the issue. Do not waste money on their paid version. Offline maps is VERY broken and they refuse to fix it
Helpful not optimal
I start with a bias that when a developer doesn’t include a feedback button on the app they don’t have a serious UX lens. In this case so far so good - it’s helpful not magical - summarises public information well but the route outlines are meh. And not being able to dismiss the menu to get a full screen view of potential trails is just irritating.

How did we hike without it?
I love the GPS function on AllTrails. As a novice hiker, I feel supported and prepared when I have the app on hand.
Interesting
Personally think it’s great for an app like this to exist and understand of course it’ll cost to use due to the mammoth work. However, it should have free emergency downloadable access or software. I downloaded this app in the instance if needing emergency coord tracking, but you need to pay for so much where basic information needed in an emergency is transactional to save a life. That’s bad as. If you have the money definitely support but if you don’t, look for another app to support free emergency contingency planning.
Good but Room to Improve
I’ve subscribed to All Trails for a few years. I do really like it. Still has a couple shortcomings. I find that it’s quite US oriented. I did a search for Gorge Creek Trail, Alberta, on my browser, and the closest result it could produce was someplace in Washington state. The phone app, however, had it in the results. It won’t create a loop in a custom route. I tried to do a custom route that included a loop back to the first part of the trail on the Gorge Creek Trail system in Sheep River Provincial Park, riding back along the ridge top from Missing Link Mtn. to Point A. I couldn’t get the third segment to tie back into the original trail. It kept creating a route to send me back the other way on the first segment to a point on the ridge instead of continuing from the endpoint of the second segment and following the trail on the third segment back. I tried holding the shift key as well. Another thing is, you can duplicate a custom route on a browser, but you can’t on the phone app. There isn’t a Contact Us to report bugs, so this will have to do.

It's 2026, you'd think people would know how to make user friendly apps by now. No way, you're telling me people knew how to do that 10 years ago? Oh right, it's not profitable to do that anymore. Why invest in your users when you can milk them dry with as little effort as possible?

Freezes every time I loose reception
Been travelling for a month, and every time I use this app and it looses reception it freezes. Totally unresponsive. Basically it’s useless for me. Ended up using other apps that worked. Worked fine in reception but that’s not really that helpful when most of the time there’s no reception.
Info missing
There are two main questions I have when choosing a route: can I get there by rail, and will I feel safe walking it alone? AllTrails isn’t too bad on the second of these; it doesn’t address it directly but I can make a judgment from a combination of the activity rating and photos of the route. However, I can’t see any information on getting to and from the start and finish points, whether by car or public transport. Even just showing railway stations on the map would be useful. Ideally, I’d like to be able to filter by rail accessibility. For this reason, although I’ve had the app for a while, I don’t really use it.
