- Support is just an unhelpful bot
- App crashes and lags constantly
Very handy
Great app! Does exactly what it says it does, no complaints
All my notes are gone!
Notability, you have cost me my exam grade. I am so mad it’s not even funny. Do better.
Price Issues
Good note-taking app but needs a permanent subscription option.
Ruined it
Noteability was my fav app for organizing and reviewing all my courses old and new. Now it’s just a mess. Everything has been split and there is no way of keeping subjects tidy into chapters any longer. I’m so disappointed AND NO LONGER TRUST THE APP TO KEEP MY NOTES! I consider them risky now. Careful and keep backup notes!
New note app
If youre looking for a note app…DONT start with notability. It is hard to change apps once you use one. Common problems signing in. I tried to request support but they told me my email was already over the amount allowed. (I have never requested support before)The app charges you wildly to use it, and it seems to always increase.
Notability
I looooveeeee it
Please Fix a Longstanding Issue With Quizzes. Paying Customers Deserve Better
Recording a lecture DOES NOT generate quizzes as advertised. I’ve ensured the recording and scribed notes are within the parameters required. The issue/error message that says “transcript failed” has been unresolved for too long. Paying a premium subscription price then being unable to use all the features the company advertises creates a poor customer experience. The company’s customer service support is horrible. I reported problems with their recent update and have not received meaningful assistance. I have used the app for approximately 7 years, and now am researching alternatives. The recent update appears to have lost or can’t access the recordings of numerous lectures that I recorded. The new script pen writing feature (beta) is good; just needs some refinement. My overall rating for this app is reduced from a 4+ to a 3 due to the aforementioned. I have used the app extensively for several YEARS, so my assessment is that of a seasoned user. I’ll wait 30-days before reconsidering this assessment.
Needs upgrades
I like it but there is not way to make the text larger or zoom in for when doing practice questions etc. its also super blank and not that stimulating for an ADHD brain. With that being said its also a really great app , the ability to add powerpoint plus extra notes PLUS audio lectures is genuinely perfect, just wish it had these small changes
Deleted Notes and Forced Migrations
App was functional but now they have deleted all my notes, can’t login for 2 days, and forced migrated me to their non-transparent Notability Cloud without my consent. I have concerns about my privacy with this company. They tried to shaft original purchasers of the app by trying to force them to a subscription, before the public backlash caused them to step back. Clearly they are trying every way squeezed more money from the app, and have no doubt that would include my personial note data. The app doesn’t function and has gives serious cause for trust concern
If it isn’t broken, why fix it?
Very upset to learn that the mix and match option for studying is gone that really helped me get good grades in the past and I’m scrambling to find a replacement now for this semester. If they’re constantly making changes like this, it is worth thinking about whether or not I should switch to something else I need something that’s gonna be consistent and this is not it.

Many bad words I cannot say
Notability chose to migrate all the work I’ve done here, on a paid subscription, to their cloud, overriding my settings and massively disorganizing 6 or more years of hours of daily writing. WTF.
Everything is made for right handed people
I have used this app since 2020 absolutely love every single update but except some reason the most recent update on the iPad with notability. It is causing me as a left-handed person to struggle to write with an Apple pen, knock off Apple pen anything while using this app. Anytime my palm or my arm rests on the iPad I cannot write without it messing up or causing issues with writing. This is ridiculous because I only use this app when take notes in class. It’s making me rethink upping my subscription to this app.
Not completely free
Overall very good appand runs smooth. But if you want a COMPLETELY FREE app, this isn’t it. There’s a limit on how many edits u can make, you can only continue to edit once the time is over
Still waiting...
This app "notably" has some great features. I particularly like the new transcribe and smart notes features. But again, formatting options are still lacking for text. I really need double spacing so that I can insert notes and format them in a neat and organized manner. I've been asking for this functionality for a long time now and I'm tired of waiting. if not done soon, I'm pulling my subscription.
New Handwriting
The new font is a chefs kiss 😘
Nice While it Lasted
I literally can’t log into my account anymore so all of my documents are now gone. I’ve already troubleshooted a number of things including submitting a support ticket - but the support ticket was responded to with a general AI bot so there’s nothing else I can do. I’ve attempted to log into from both of of my iPads and my MacBook but no go. Very frustrating! Off to search for another notes app smh
WOW! But with notes…
Definitely the best note taking app I have ever used. The free version is workable, and the subscription is affordable for 15$ a year. The only gripe I have with this app is that the templates can be very hard to use. There is no good way to insert pages from a different template into another one!
So slow and lost notes
I had this app with subscription for TWO years. It was already slow. But then it would simply not load my notes and then randomly deleted my most important notes. Kept the ones I don’t need. Horrible.
Good, but…
I love using this app, I like the pencil options and the simple interface. However, since updating to the new Notability Cloud version, this app sucks my iPad’s battery life like there’s no tomorrow. Please add an option to only periodically back up or temporarily disable Notability Cloud.
Teacher’s Best Friend
Love this app! Everything I need to teach in one place with the capability of incorporating all my files quickly. User friendly and engaging for my students!
Not working
NOT WORKING!!!!
Bring back the short answer test format please!!!
Bring back the short answer test format please!!! I think it called fill in the blank test format. The current practice tests aren’t as useful for studying.
Doesn’t sync across apps
I used to love this app so much, but I’m back in school and now the apps no longer sync across my devices. They also don’t back themselves up either. I’ve tried to contact support, and they won’t get back to me at least in any sort of timely fashion with a human support person. It just makes you talk to AI through a back and forth email exchange. Over 2 hours back and forth email exchange with an AI chat bot before it finally said you should talk to a human. 20 minutes later, I get an email saying a human will get to me in 3-5 business days!
Squeeze and hold to erase
Can we introduce an option where users can choose whether to go to the tool bar or automatically go to the eraser when squeezing the pencil?

Useless and Unacceptable
I’ve been using Notability since roughly 2016, and during that time I would have described it as one of the best note taking apps on the app store. Today however, I learned just how useless the app has actually become. Prior to the notability cloud rebranding, The majority of my time using notability has been offline. Today I attempted to use the app and it prompted me to login in. Not being connected to an internet connection I was unable to access any of my notes. When i finally connected to the internet, I received a message informing me that a login link was sent to my email address. Checked my inbox and junk mail and that link never came. Spent an hour brute forcing the login before I was finally able to access my notes. This was unacceptable as I needed access to my notes at that exact moment to get prepped for a meeting. I’m not interested in having to be tethered to an internet connection to use or access my own information. The fact that I never received that link was unacceptable and illustrates why the Notability cloud is unreliable. I think this is where I part ways with this app.
Definitely Needs Progress, But Overall Good
So, I am in my teens, and this app is really good. It was downloaded on our school iPads and I downloaded at home so I could have access to Gallery. I enjoy using it, and it is simple to use. But there are some things it rly needs to fix. Yes, it is mainly an app for note taking, but the variety in brushes is terrible. Even Notes and Freeform have more! Even if I want to do a simple sketch it is hard to get it to look good! Second, it only allows gallery if your app allowance is 18+, which is fine for me as it is set to that, but a lot of my friends have parents who don’t allow this. Gallery is not like social media, you have to approve everything, so why is it set to that?! It just doesn’t make sense to me. So yeah, good app, but not advanced enough for anyone using it outside of school tbh. ✨✨✨
Mid at best
I’ve had lag problems, login problems and yet they have tone audacity to not only raise their prices (they still haven’t fixed half the bugs impacting the game) images randomly delete, same with files. If you’re going to charge over 20$ for a note taking app at least act like it.
Good
I just really would like the pages not to be limited. I love the app but I had to uninstall because I had not enough pages and I don’t have the money for pro version!
The best
Absolutely amazing, I use it for note taking, studying, reviewing. It’s able to record transcripts of lectures, and quiz us further.
Awful
This app is awful ur really gonna make me pay to make a note
freeform image cropping, expand PDFs in all 4 directions and resize images from a single edge
I would highly appreciate the addition of freeform image cropping, the ability to resize images from a single edge without proportional scaling, the ability to expand PDFs in all 4 directions to get extra writing space, and layers support for better editing and organization. Just to clarify, freeform cropping and single-edge resizing are two different features. I would love to be able to crop images freely, but also resize or stretch an image from only one selected side without the entire image scaling up or down. These updates would make the app flawless. Thank you for your hard work!
All of my notes were randomly deleted
I’ve loved this app for almost a year but today all of my notes were randomly erased. I was in the middle of writing something and my pen stopped working so I refreshed the app and when I reopened it I had nothing. A full year of work, gone. I tried to sign in to the help centre but it said my password wasn’t working so I asked to reset it but the password reset email never came in. I just lost a lot of work. Disappointed isn’t a strong enough word.
App is slow
I’ve used this app for years, and for some reasons, suddenly it got updated and it got way slower than it was before . Plus now I actually have to have internet connection to open some of my notes even if they’re ALL already downloaded . Such a bother. I often need to close and open the app again for me to open my notes. It used to be so good
LOVE
idk why people criticize this app. i’m in nursing and this app has literally saved me with so much stuff for studying, as it makes flashcards, tests, quizzes. this is forever my go to app for school
Forced Moved To Their Cloud Platform
This app has completely fallen from grace for me. It used to be a one time purchase, which now it has become a monthly subscription. It used to be a simple download and use, now it requires an account. It used to be local, now I’m being forced onto their cloud platform in September. I do not recommend anyone use this notetaking app anymore. I’ve this app for many years and always recommended it, but I will never do so again and urge people off it.
Great!
I can import past papers to practice which makes it so much easier to do instead of printing it out which genuinely helped sm ( I have a mock tomorrow)
lagging
notability has been my academic foundation for quite literally more than 10 years. It was stable, dependable, and always added efficiency to my note taking, lecture annotating and studying. Since the recent update a few weeks ago, I’ve lost that tried and true note app. Frequent lagging, even when simply trying to scroll down one page in a pdf. Typing and font size parameter changes shifted/altered many past notes, and makes new ones appear different from past. I worry that my notes may not be saved or might be lost. When trying to contact app developers for help, I repeatedly got the same responses from their AI bot instead. All of this to say, I am so very disappointed of the quality, functionality, and stability of this app now. Take it back to where it was 2 months ago PLEASE.
Aggressive pushing to upgrade
I already pay you a subscription fee, but you want more. Being bombarded with notifications to upgrade when you start the app and close the app is making me want to find an alternative to using notability!
New Update is Not Brilliant
Hello team. Thank you for building my #1 most use app on my iPad Pro 13-inch with M5 chip. However, this lastest update that shows the palette once you squeeze Apple Pencil is slowing me down. I enjoy the fluidity of squeezing and bam! Comes the eraser tool. Squeeze yet again, and bam! You are back with the pencil. It’s a muscle memory. Showing the palette is a barrier. I kindly ask to have to option to change it back to the way it was. Thank you.
Does not work
I cannot sign in keeps telling me to check my email. But does not send an email. When I try to contact support I get an error message. I pay for this app and can’t use it now. Terrible. Do not recommend
Really convenient and easy to use
This app is really amazing and despite having plenty of features, its really easy to get the hang of. There’s plenty of developer attention which is really great. Unfortunately some of the updates are really annoying, like the squeeze eraser being removed. It was so convenient! If any of the devs are reading this, PLEASE give an option to change it back if you want to. Other than that, it’s really great!
Good Interface Terrible Data Management
As a student, study time is extremely precious. The hours of studying lost trying to get my notes to load from the cloud or not being able to write notes because my “storage was full” despite freeing 3 gbs of data is super frustrating
Used to be reliable
Not sure what’s happened. Update? Pencil randomly stops working, usually just as the content decides to update to the cloud. The content then slowly updates, and I have to wait for it to completely update before being able to use again. Not ideal during a meeting!

J’ai adoré goon au goblin hut car ils sont tellement beaux
Deleted 7 Years of Notes After Requiring an Account
I have been using Notability for the last 7 years, and by and by, it was great. Things would get worse over time, as I am almost certain that they were using all of our notes as training data for AI or handwriting recognition, but I still used it. I was using it fine yesterday, even. However today, I was greeted by a “Sign into your account” screen that could not be bypassed. I reluctantly created an account with a burner email, and lo and behold, ALL OF MY NOTES HAD VANISHED. Despicable. Do not use this app unless you are fine with random updates taking away the capability to locally own YOUR NOTES.
bothers me to subscribe all the time
It’s a good app but the adverts are pretty annoying.
All of my notes were deleted
After using this app for years for my PhD and putting up with the annoying AI integration and pushy cloud sync, every single note has been lost. When I opened the app it closed the active note saying it couldn’t access it and booted me to my file tree where there were only my folders and none of the notes. I used to really like this app for note-taking, but after the huge AI push they’ve done and this incident losing all of my work, I wouldn’t recommend this app to anyone.
Worse with every update
Too many added layers of confusion impair the usability of what should be a simple process: compose a note, file it, back up to iCloud I don’t want or need 50 laters of confusion and AI “slop” I don’t want to be forced to use Notability cloud, I’m happy with iCloud I’m still furious that previous updates fscked all my legacy notability docs !!!!! ,,,
