Horrible to use on anything other than IPAD
Horrible syncing features across devices and so many glitches/ poor compatibility with macbook pro. Ultimately switching to another note taking app as it is more trouble/stress than it is worth.
I like it, but it’s not perfect
There’s a lot that I like about this app. It’s has a lot of cool features. I wish it was more friendly to switching between keyboard typing and hand writing notes on the same page. That does not work well. I also wish there was a search function in the notes, so that I could search keywords to find them faster.
Good product, horrible product
For a product with this much support and hype, it sucks. The product for a note-taking app has alot of good features that puts it above the rest; however, these features are hard to natively access sometimes, espically for what is required for productive notetaking on an academic scale. THE CUSTOMER SERVICE IS TERRIBLE. For my service issue, it was a simple thing as going into the app store to deactiviate and reactiviate my subscription. GoodNotes had not responded to my Report after 10 business days and gave horrible advice when I asked them directly on X.
Please update for mac
I go between my iPad and laptop for notes and the versions between the different devices are night and day. I have no issues with using Goodnotes on my iPad — I primarily use it to handwrite notes during in-person lectures. When I do readings prior to class, I take notes using the typing feature on my laptop. My notes always disappear, overlap previous writing, and often, I have to restart the app to even edit some of the pages. Please create an update to fix the bugs on the laptop version, I love the app for everything else. Sincerely, a graduate student <3

So handy and simple
Stop changing the toolbar
STOP CHANGING THE TOOLBAR!!!! You get used to where your eraser pen is and then they move it every week. It was fine and completely accessible in the floating tool bar instead of at the top of the page. Make it completely customizable and stop making my choices for me.
Almost but not quite
Lots of amazing features, a very strong note taking application. What hold me back from a better review is how difficult it is to mix pasted text with notes. When pasting text if it doesn’t fit on one page it won’t flow to the next. That would take this to 5 stars.
App needs work. Not intuitive at all
I give credit to the Goodnotes people because they reached out to me in response to my previous critical review. Unfortunately, the answer was to read voluminous articles and instruction manuals. This is not going to happen. I need the app to be intuitive so that a genius like me can use the app without reading tons of material. I have great expertise running all sorts of apps and I agree that some apps should be subject to expertise that is gained through reading manuals. For crying out loud, this is a NOTES app! It should be simple. I was told that I could use it to record all of the information that I need about photographs I take with vintage film cameras. Digital cameras do this all automatically, but I shoot film which means that I need a simple app to record all the data for each shot I take like: Film type, format, shutter speed, aperture, exposure index, atmospheric conditions, zone system offsets, developer push/pull recommendation, etc. This app is not it. It is hard enough for me to figure out all the camera settings I need to take the perfect shot. It is critical that I be able to document all of the factors that make up the perfect shot so that I can apply the same principles to future images. To do this, I need a good Notes App that is easy to use that I do not need to divert my intellect away from applying it to my photography. This app ain’t it.
Not honest on subscription
Beware when purchasing the yearly subscription for $11.99, it is taken monthly. Overall, the app functions perfectly.
Goodnotes AI note DOCS PDF
Five stars
Too many software glitches
This app tends to crash in the middle of using it which is terribly inconvenient. Another constant issue is the apps compatibility with Microsoft PowerPoint where everything gets screwy. I do not recommend for the sake of saving yourself from the constant headache of using this app.
还有很大进步空间
老版好用啊！
Pretty mid
So basically I had been using this app to take notes and they kept deleting so yeahother than that it was okay.
Windows progress ??
I would really appreciate it if Goodnotes could make the Learning Ressources available on Windows. It’s disappointing to see that the Windows version still hasn’t evolved much.

CAN YOU GUYS PLEASE MAKE A DUAL PAGE VIEW OPTION?
This is not what I paid for.
This is not what I paid for. I would like a refund. I paid for Goodnotes 5, not this, not 5 with this slapped over top of it so the reviews carry over. A lot of the reviews here are for 5, that's why such a high rating. Even in Version 7.1.18. My review still stands. So which version was the update for with the bug fixes and everything?? I do love how you remove the number from the name though….
New tricks
As an older digital user (66) I can say that this is user friendly. I made the decision to use an online calendar and ditch my beloved pen and paper. I love this! I plot out my year with birthdays and events on my iPad and add to the monthly, weekly and daily pages. I work in several different settings and I color code all of it with the writing tools. I can access it with my iPhone, iPad and computer It's on my one drive so any computer anywhere. It's been a process but its great
The app its great. The install process is abysmal
The app itself is really useful. I have spent the last few hours trying to get my free Goodnotes 5 version upgraded to the MacOS Special Edition which I purchased. Over 4 hours and I cannot get the licensing to reflect the purchased license. The Support is all bot-based and has only the basic approach to installation. While I liked Goodnotes 5 and all it did, I want the latest features. If I knew how hard it was going to be to get the upgrade running, I would have made a different choice. May still do that.
Great for class but really annoying to cancel
I use it on my iPad and have swapped from my Microsoft laptop, so I wanted to unsubscribe from the Android version and the site was very difficult to navigate to cancel. Otherwise, the app works great for my classes on my iPad.
Excellent for college
This app is so good for note taking and staying organized. Every feature feels intentionally designed and useful. The UI/UX are great and user friendly.
Why.
Why is there only one free notebook and when you delete it you cant even make another when you delete the original one
File types
have trouble converting files to the right type that will allow to be put into goodnotes
Battery
It takes so much battery usage. I have to charge my iPad between classes(if I have the time). They should do something about it.
Best note app, except that it frequently requires login
This is really the best note taking app. No need to repeat other reviews. The very annoying side is, it frequently says “Login session expired” and needs me to sign back in. Why would I need to do this? When I have something to jog down I want to do it asap before they slip away from my head.
Good notes
Goodnotes is an amazing app I’ve tried other ones but this one is completely free no subscriptions no ads I love it I use it for all my classes and it’s very simple to use I love Goodnotes
All purchase options not available
So ridiculous I have downloaded the app on my iPad and later my iPhone. Neither allows me to purchase the special edition. You are only allowed to select essential or pro. I have deleted the app and removed my profile I will try again but it should not be this difficult.
Taa
So smooth but sometimes some tools load more time
Don’t waste your freaking time on computer.
Tthis frickazz app is so unmanageable on computer it’s insane. Horrible user interface. Writing notes is terrible, every flick of your hands makes the tool go crazy you can barely do it, and changing to another tab makes this stupid app freak out it’s so inefficient. Also THERE ISNT AN UNDO OR REDO BUTTON ON COMPUTER. THERE ISNT A WAY TO USE KEYBOARD SHORTCUTS EITHER. You have to edit everything manually. This thing is trash on computer.
App keeps crashing
This app started crashing over and over again and prevents effective use

Ability to Select and Insert Multiple Photos at Once
Goodnotes is an excellent and powerful app for many different types of work. It has a great set of features and is very easy to use for note-taking, document markup, and organization. One feature that is missing, however, is the ability to select and insert multiple photos onto a page at the same time. Currently, I can only add one photo at a time, which becomes very time-consuming when working with several images. I’ve tried different methods, but none of them provide an efficient workflow. It would be a significant improvement if users could select multiple photos from the photo library and insert them into a page in a single action. This would save a lot of time and make Goodnotes even more productive for users who regularly work with images.
Mad
This is such a annoying app is so hard and it’s just overrated it’s too pricey and it’s too much going on at a time
Pen style
Goodnotes’ pen style is ugly. I wish they’d improve it. Maybe something similar to apple’s fountain pen used in books and notes app. I cannot even utilize my apple pen’s shortcuts to switch between tools.
Great for Nursing school
I use Goodnotes to view my PowerPoints for school. I write my notes directly on the slides or I can insert a page for more notes. I also use it to create flash cards for studying. It’s my favorite app for Nursing school. I highly recommend Goodnotes.
Disappointing Family Sharing Experience
I’m very disappointed with Goodnotes’ family sharing feature. Despite having an active family subscription, the subscription does not work properly for family members, making it impossible to access the features we’re paying for. What’s even more frustrating is the customer support experience. I reached out about the issue, but there was very little communication or follow-up, and the problem was never properly resolved. Paying for a subscription and then having to repeatedly chase support for a solution is extremely frustrating. Goodnotes is a great app when it works, but the unreliable family sharing and poor customer support make it difficult to recommend, especially for anyone considering a family subscription.
Review update
July 6, 2026: The latest update including the voice transcript works really well, I’m impressed! ——————- Upgraded and paid the difference - ended up with slow, error-prone app. Very disappointed!!! Nov. 11, 2025 App lags, even with normal typing of text. Don’t buy this app
Lasso tool not working properly on whiteboards
I’ve had no issues so far but with the whiteboards only, I noticed that the lasso tool is very choppy and doesn’t move as smoothly as it does with other things. It’s extremely annoying and it wasn’t like this before. I’ve tried updating it and restarting my iPad and checking my pencil but it’s an issue with the app. Please fix this
Bugs
there are some minor bugs like text disappearing once in a while and those don’t really matter but recently in the gn6 version, the screen keeps pausing/freezing and a grey square with a loading sign on it appears in middle of my screen. I can’t do anything about it, and i have to reload the whole app mid-writing.
Good for students
This is very helpful and useful for students in college
Not free
Very misleading to list as free when you are forced to select a paid plan
A bot complicated
It works well , but for me who is not very good with computer find it a bit complicated. My daughter and niece have their own Goodnotes for studying and they love it.
Overheating Issue
App is good for note-taking but there is major issue to fix. I have a new iPad Air M4 and it is overheating a lot. Its battery drain is insane, it consume more battery than a heavy game. I turned off handwriting recognition and spelling check but still no fix. Don’t know if it specific to M4 chip iPad or general issue.
Needs more colours
Pls add more colour options for the folders. The blue feels so corporate it makes me nauseous.
. The best
So helpful, love it
Honestly kind of trash.
I really wanted to like Goodnotes, but the app feels unnecessarily complex and frustrating to use compared with other note-taking apps. Basic functions are buried behind menus and settings that are not intuitive, and the learning curve for simple things like scrolling, selecting text, highlighting, and syncing is way higher than it should be. The cloud syncing has also been disappointing. I imported a very small PDF on my computer and it sat with a spinning cloud for several minutes, while the same note appeared on my iPad with completely blank pages. For an app that is supposed to work seamlessly across Apple devices, syncing should not feel this unreliable or slow. The highlighting experience is another major frustration. If I want a clean text-based highlight with proper square borders around the words, I have to hold down on the text with my finger and manually select it. I cannot simply use the Apple Pencil to select the printed text in the same way. Using the Apple Pencil highlighter instead just creates a drawn stroke, which does not give the same clean, precise borders around the actual text. For an app designed around iPad and Apple Pencil note-taking, having to constantly switch between the Pencil and my finger for basic text selection feels poorly thought out. There are definitely a lot of features in Goodnotes, but that is also part of the problem. The app feels overcomplicated rather than intuitive. Simple tasks require too many steps, syncing feels inconsistent, and the Apple Pencil experience is more limited than I expected. I switched because I wanted a better note-taking experience, but so far Goodnotes has made basic tasks feel more difficult than they need to be. A note-taking app should make studying faster and easier, not make users spend time figuring out how to perform basic functions.
ADD ONS
PLEASE ADD BETTER TRANSCRIPTION FEATURE, AUDIO TO TEXT NOTES.
TAPE FIX PLEASE!!
I genuinely will QUIT if this doesn’t get added. ADD NORMAL TAPE FEATURES THAT LITERALLY EVERY OTHER APP HAS: toggle all tape display, rectangular tape, delete all tape on every page, when exporting don’t include the tape PLEASE. PLEASE. THANK YOU.
Glitchy...
Was a great app, would use it all the time for school. However it got so glitchy randomly, to the point where it was not useable.
