Breath Taking
The navigation directions were clear and the audio tour was informative and humorous. We enjoyed it!
Very confusing
We wanted to tour Indiana Dunes National Park. Followed the directions tons to begin at one of the 7 entry points closest to us as we were in Michigan City. At first look there are multiple coloured circles and numerous number ones. But we followed the map to Mt Baldy but after getting back in the car the tour kept trying to send us back to Michigan City We were never able to get the tour to work easily. The so is confusing to look at and impossible to follow if you are trying to look and drive. The program is too cumbersome and tries to do too many start points. Pick a starting place- either end, guide people there and have only one set of numbers but the audio track direction dependent - like Guide Along has!
Maui Road to Hana tour
Very well done. Great narration and info provided, and very flexible for your individual choices and taste. Recommended!
When it worked it was just ok
The transitions from music to narrative caused it to kick over to radio and sometimes it would say it was playing but no sound would com through. Also, the Waimea Canyon tour was dark—suicide, beating someone to death with one blow from a shark tooth club, a yeti chocking to death and beheading… and so much more! Throw in facts and science to break up the death knell.

Absolutely impressed
Okay, I never leave reviews but this was the best 25 bucks I spent. Whoever created this app, an absolute genius! GET THE APP!!! You’ll lose service and won’t be able to access Google Maps or anything like that. It’s self guided audio tour and they explain each spot, places worth to see, timing and details on each stop. GET IT!

Great with a few quirks
Loved the tour but it would have helped to know many of the places, especially some of the water falls, close early at the beginning of the tour so you could plan accordingly. Also would have helped to know that there is both an entry/parking fee and a person fee at some of the attractions—-and they aren’t all that cheap.
Drive around Lake Tahoe
The tour was fine although they forgot to mention the fact that EVERY stop suggested cost you $. It cost $10-15 each and every parking lot to just go in, park, walk around and take a few pictures. After spending like $50 we were done and just drove back. Ridiculous.

Waimea Canyon
We took this tour today, August 6, taking one road up to the end of the Canyon trail and the north road down. There were no closed roads and minimal road construction. I’m glad we paid no heed to the warning on the app. All in all we’ve enjoyed the Shaka tours of Hawaii.
Inaccurate GPS
We really struggled to figure out where we were. The app couldn’t seem to accurately find our location and gave us the wrong driving instructions even though I turned on location in my settings. We drove circles around Honolulu. It was very frustrating. We missed some things because of it. I finally had to use my maps in my phone and input the stops. You would have to have a navigator that could look things up and find your own directions.

So disappointed, the music played in my car but when the voice started it went back to my phone.
Pretty impressive - just one small glitch
Overall this is such an informative tour that is engaging for listeners of all ages. My only complaint is that because I decided to do a few of the routes backwards (because of timing with our other activities), I couldn’t figure out how to reverse the order of the tour which made it pretty much unusable. That was super disappointing and I wish Shaka had a way to select the route or at least the direction of the route.
Gettysburg Military National Park Auto Tour
Excellent job. We had to leave for a bit, but the app picked right up when we got back to the park. Great app for touring on your own time.

Cut out throughout the drive up. Wasn’t in sync with location along the route.
Very helpful
Shaka guide is piece of mind when doing Hāna highway it’s super handy and acts as a gps I couldn’t figure out how to sync it with Google Maps so we just googled to the start of the highway and switched to the guide everytime you leave your car to check something up and get back in your car and start driving the guide figures out were you are and just proceeds the tour super helpful!

Worked intermittently
Downloaded this app for my trip to Maui and followed all the instructions and this app only worked intermittently with no instructions or directions. Waste of money.
Hawaii mit Shaka Guide
Wir haben die App auf Empfehlung genutzt und sind begeistert. Wir sind Eltern von einem 18 Jährigen, was gemeinsam zu reisen nicht immer einfach macht, mit Shaka war es aber echt gut. Wir sind durch O‘ahu, Kauai und Maui gereist und haben alles mit Shaka begleiten lassen. Die Tipps und Stopps waren großartig, klar kann man nicht immer alles machen, aber das ist ok. Wir empfehlen die App auf jeden Fall weiter. Kleiner Kritikpunkt- der Anfang ist nicht immer reibungslos, aber wenn man einmal drin ist- kein Problem mehr. Macht weiter so.
Great Programs!
We have used these for Sedona and Grand Canyon. Just yesterday we did North Shore of Oahu. All are fabulous and super informative. They allow you to drive and move at your own pace without missing anything. We recommend these guides completely!

There seemed to be a lot of music and not that many points of interest features in the app.
Great app. Some parts could be better.
Great app for touring O’ahu. I started in Waikiki and was very confused about where the start exactly was. It would be great if the start could have an address. Once I got out of Waikiki it was very easy to use, the gps directions were easy, the information and stops were great.

Such a great app! The information and music made our trip to Hana so fun! Will definitely use again on my next vacation.
Bad deal
I paid the money for Maui bundle but never received the code to open it! No answer to my email or my phone calls. I feel like I was scammed
One of a kind but still ridden with bugs
We’ve done about two dozen of the Shaka Guide, including the Walking Tours in Oahu and the National Parks. The app is overall pretty neat but in every guide there has always been at least one bug (e.g., voice volume for some sections drops unexpectedly to half of the overall volume for the Shenandoah NP guide). Most of the bugs afflict ALL driving tours. For example, the GPS map slowly but surely rotates clockwise so that at one point you seem to drive downwards. The passenger has to hold the phone and counter rotate it so that the driver isn’t too distracted.
Makes Roadtrips fun again!
These guides are always interesting and fun. The GPS is always accurate even in cases like National Parks where there is little to no WiFi. Just remember to downloads the guide fully before you start the tour. Highly Recommended!!
