Kobo Integration is a game changer
I have to give StoryGraph and Kobo their flowers for this recent integration. And I have a little story on this technology actually being intuitive!!! I bought an ebook version of a classic novel on Kobo for cheap from a very small publisher. When I opened it, the wrong edition, from a bigger publisher, ‘synced’ to my StoryGraph instead of the one I bought, with the covers not even matching. I removed the book on StoryGraph, manually added the edition I bought after realizing it wasn’t in the StoryGraph database, and manually updated my progress on the new edition (just like I would do for print/audiobook). I originally was slightly bummed at the lack of automatic syncing but kept reading. When I opened StoryGraph back up, THE NEW EDITION I MADE HAD SYNCED. Kobo/StoryGraph somehow realized I was reading the new edition on the Kobo and corrected itself with the new entry into the database, even after I deleted the wrong ‘book’! So extremely cool, and it made my day. You guys really deserve your flowers for the programming on that one!

Storygraph, my faithful friend please don’t ever leave me. I have looked at and toyed with multiple reading trackers and I have no idea why anyone uses any other than you. The only problem others might have with storygraph is that there is no community like goodreads and fable in that, they can post comments and pictures and others can like and comment where as with storygraph you can only like that someone read and rated it. I don’t really care as much for this because people tend to get mean just because they don’t agree with someone else’s reviews and or ratings, I don’t need that drama lol. The only other issue I have is that multiple user added editions may have wrong or incomplete information. Guys seriously, this one has charts and graphs that are FREE, unlike fable (here are all of the graphs you get to see for FREE: mood, pace, page number, fiction/nonfiction, genres, tags, format, most read authors, languages, number of books and pages and Star ratings!!!) They also have giveaways just like goodreads Not only can you set a book reading goal you can set a pages goal and an hours goal You can do buddy reads and read along’s as well as create or be a part of a book club. Just like goodreads, you can create your own tags, just like goodreads it will tell you the total of books you’ve ever read, as well as the total of books you have read this year and at the end of the year it will show every book you read and dnf’d (at least they did the dnf’s last year, hopefully again every year) and it will show the ratings you gave it. Just like fable you can add content warnings, the pace the book felt to you, you can choose to answer some of these questions like: are the characters lovable? You can answer: Yes. No. It’s complicated. was the cast of characters diverse?, was there strong character development?, was the book mainly plot or character driven or a mix? Ditch goodreads, ditch fable or any other book tracking app and just use this one! Hey maybe if more people join, storygraph will add the community posts like goodreads and fable has ;)
Cool Concept
It’s a cool concept and I got excited when I could export my Goodreads information… but that’s where it got muddy. It didn’t import my stuff correctly. It imported some of my books as Dutch language or non print books. The whole reason I wanted to check the app out was for the cool graphics and they’re not correct. I don’t feel like adjusting everything myself so I decided just to stick with Goodreads (they’re free) I understand that’s how you make your money to further develop but it’s honestly so annoying this day and age. I want to be able to enjoy stuff without having to pay for it to work better.. Plus the current AI implements just make not want to return to the app at all.
Seems great
It seems great so far, I wish it was easier to import my data from Fable. I’d love to use both as they both offer different things but to manually input everything takes time
I second the Syncing with Libby
I love this app. Seeing all the different stats together, even in just the free version, is so awesome. And I love that you can do .25 and .75 in your reviews, instead of just whole and half-stars. And the Kobo-syncing addition? Amazing! I don’t know what it would take to also have that functionality with Libby, but that would push this app even higher. Also, for those of us that aren’t big fans of the 1-5 star system, it would be really cool if a 1-10/10 system were available.
Terrible Service and Support
StoryGraph completely lacks a public code of conduct or community guidelines page to protect readers and authors. Even Goodreads, their biggest competitor, has these basic safety guardrails in place. When you reach out to support about serious issues, the response time is incredibly slow, only to be met with unhelpful deflections from Abbie. StoryGraph actively allows its platform to be used for targetted harassment under the bizarre loophole that if a user labels defamatory, real world and personal accusations that have nothing to do with the book’s text as a "DNF" note, it’s suddenly protected. I originally left Goodreads to support a smaller, independent app, but that is proving to be a mistake. As the platform grows, their support team’s refusal to address blatant defamation shows they simply do not care about community safety, and I will no longer be recommending goodreaders to make the switch to this app. Support does NOT CARE.
It’s not GoodReads
The search algorithm and app have been improved. Plus you’re not supporting an exploitative monopoly.
Profoundly frustrating
I want to love this app but the UI is god awful. I put in a book and it automatically says I’ve finished it. It supposedly keeps track of pages read but doesn’t. So poorly designed.
Better than GR but…
Definitely better than good reads, but man is this app really buggy at times. Sometimes I can’t even get the app to load. I’ll force close it and then restart it 2 or 3 times before it seems to even load the home page. And on days when it’s like this good luck navigating to your lists. I’m really thankful it exists and definitely recommend it, just know what to expect.
slight glitch
i love this app ! however , my only issue is that sometimes my stats are incorrect. it changes my format of reading quite frequently and misplaces my print v. digital reads. otherwise great app
Boring
The design of the app is extremely boring. My kobo and the app will not synchronize and it is not worth wasting time trying to figure out why.
Love the app, with one note
Love this app. I switched from Goodreads because of its association with Amazon, but also because it’s user face was cluttered and seemed to demand and encourage mass consumerism. I did not feel a need to keep it for any social aspect, so I switched to StoryGraph, and I’ve loved it. It’s simplified, streamlined, and does everything I want a book tracker to do. The only note and recommendation is to improve the mobile application’s connection to cellular service. Unfortunately, I can only use the app when I am connected to wifi, and usually only my home wifi. If this was fixed, it would be a perfect app.
Very disappointed
I was using this app to compare tracking my reading to other apps. Life happened and I needed to get a new phone, and when I downloaded the app and logged in all of my data was gone. I am very disappointed as before that I was thoroughly enjoying the app.
It’s good but the UI is so clunky sometimes
- After leaving a review, pressing the back button takes me back to the review edit page - constantly having to double tap on buttons for them to work and changes to take effect - follow button doesn’t immediately change to following, have to refresh page for it to show - actually…i have to refresh pages a lot while using this app I still like it though! Do wish there was more of a community and it was easier to find friends within the app, but yeah my main problem with the app is that navigating it is such a clunky, glitchy, slow, experience.
My Reading Brain Lives Here Now
StoryGraph genuinely changed how I read. Migrating years of Goodreads history was a certified ✨journey✨, but getting my reading life out of Amazon’s ecosystem felt delicious. The tracking is where StoryGraph absolutely eats. Reading streaks turn my book habit into a tiny dopamine machine, while the stats, charts, moods, pace data, challenges, and progress tracking actually tell me something about how I read instead of merely cataloging what I finished. Following readers with similar tastes is also dangerous in the best way—I routinely burgle their shelves for my already-unmanageable TBR. My biggest remaining weakness is discovery. When I want curated lists, rabbit holes, or that glorious feeling of stumbling across something unexpected, I still find myself opening Goodreads. StoryGraph’s recommendations are smart, but browsing doesn’t feel quite as rich yet. As an actual reading tracker, though? StoryGraph has become indispensable.
No instructions?
I’m not into computers. I love to read and just wanted to track my reading. And maybe some recommendations. But apparently you’re just supposed to know how to use the app? With no guidance. After asking the internet many times how to simply and add book with no clear answer. I deleted the app. I’ll just keep writing my information down on paper.
Great app with good recommendation and filtering features
Has a pretty great recommendation feature with a lot of inputs to narrow down the options. You can import your Goodreads library which is useful. The main thing I think could be better is the sort by option function. Currently it doesn’t have many options (pages, pub date and popular this week) and having popular this month/year/x years etc would be great so would sorting by highest rating, most favourited etc. Also theres an option to ‘only show books…’ (it gives options to choose from). Currently it has ‘not in my To-Read pile’ it would be great if we could also have ‘not in my Read pile’. But yeah great app with lots of filter options and a good book recommendation feature.
Not accessible
I would love to root for this app and fully jump ship from GR. Unfortunately, as someone who is visually impaired, I am going to have to rate this lower. The text is so small and I can’t seem to find any settings to enlarge the text within the app. My own phone’s accessibility settings such as increasing font size in apps also does not work when using StoryGraph. So I just have to use my phone’s zoom controller to zoom in every time I want to read some text, and it also makes leaving a review really annoying. So my experience with this app is completely not enjoyable. However, if you are not visually impaired then I’m sure you’ll love this app.
Reading streak deleted
I love this app! I was going to write a 5 star review for it, however, yesterday my 200 day reading streak was deleted and replaced with a 120 day one for no reason. I found it incredibly annoying and frustrating to work that hard for something and have it represented only for it just to be deleted. I do get that it’s also not that big of a deal which is why this app is still 3 stars.
Content Warnings feature is the best!
I love this app! It is so easy to find out whether a book contains content I may be sensitive to. I use to spend so much time searching for content warnings before starting a book. I would have to do multiple internet searches and search reviews in hopes someone else put warnings in. This app makes the process simple and convenient, I know within a minute of searching for a book if it is a good fit for me. As a result I have been able to branch out to other genres I love without spending a ton of time researching.

There’s no Sign In with Apple option. Without that, I don’t use an app anymore.
Love it but the streaks constantly glitches
Its a great app and has more for tracking capabilities than most reading apps. My one gripe is that the reading streak is always glitching, so even if you’ve been reading and recording everyday it will randomly reset your streak. I use a second app that doesn’t glitch and I should have over 600 days of reading in a row, but alas… Storygraph has reset so many times I was at 23 days and now I’m at 0 again.
Where are the foreign books?
I tried it for a year and even though the app is decent I am tired of adding Italian books to its database. Many of them are just missing, despite being printed by famous publishers. I wanted to love this app but it’s just very disappointing.
Just a bit glitchy
I’ve been using StoryGraph for about a year and really enjoy the features (reading challenges, stats, half stars, etc). I am enjoying my experience but have two gripes: I’m having a hard time finding recommendations for new reads based on my activity, and the app seems a bit glitchy. I mostly notice it not saving my progress tracking when I update it. If those worked better I’d be super happy!
Continual greatness
I’ve been a user for a few years now and I love it immensely. The layout and graphics are visually appealing, the groups and bookclub features are easy to navigate, the specific rating capabilities are great. Not only do I adore the app as it is, Nadia provides incredible transparency about bugs, updates, and planned developments. Excited to see how StoryGraph continues to improve!
Poor
Very poor. I moved here from Goodreads. And have regretted it ever since. Basics, like searching for books, don’t work. I’ll put the full title in the search, and the search results will be a short list of books. With none of the words I typed in their title? It’s also extremely slow. Going from page to page takes forever. It’s not designed intuitively either. I keep hoping after each update that it improves, but it seems to get worse. If it worked well I would be happy to subscribe.
loves but app needs improvement
This app is great. I love the stats, and I prefer it to all of its competitors. However it is extremely annoying how if you don’t click currently reading, then finished thoses books won’t count for ur stats. i want to use it to track how many books i have read this year, and all the books i have read won’t move to the stats that I read before i started using this app a month ago edit: thanks for getting back to me! sorry I didn’t make it clear, but I have gone back and added dates to the books I have read in this year. I’ve tried doing this multiple times, but it still is not adding the booking into my read books this year. which leads me to believe that they don’t go into the stats unless you click read, then fished reading. not finished, then going back to change the date.
Slow slow app
Whilst I love the app and StoryGraph in general, it is such a slow app to load to update to search. I often find myself going back to Goodreads for speed.
All the features, none of the design
Feels like it’s built by developers who know their stuff (as a web app, not a native iOS app) but forgot to hire a dedicated UI & UX design team. Books, in general, are designed by passionate designers and typographers trying to give you their best reading experience, not so much here. In a world where Letterboxd exists this is just not good enough. The market for book tracking is there for the taking, Goodreads is a shambles, Fable is close but lacking, and the other 10 or so similar apps are just miles off spinning in their own universe. I really hope The Storygraph get their design act together, the time of scrappy start up does good is over, time to dominate. Hire some designers (and whilst your at it a native iOS app wouldn’t hurt)
Intuitive, Excellent Stats & Easy to Use
I’ve been using StoryGraph consistently for a few years now. It is such a great app and has so many stats that I really enjoy reviewing regarding my reading. Additionally, there aren’t constant updates which I appreciate, and the updates we do get are thoughtful and do improve interface. I highly recommend the app
Log In?
Could be interesting but can’t tell 1) Impossible to establish an account . Invalid login credentials from first attempt. 2) Impossible to reset password (or could be UID, I suppose)
Almost perfect
Great for stat tracking and recommendations. I just wish it had more of an in-depth rating system or two different rating systems. One for personal enjoyment. One for a more unbiased analysis, like character development, prose, plot, pace, themes, personal enjoyment and have an average score at the end.
Fantastic app but…
StoryGraph is a fantastic app that I use for my little book club. But the only down side is the in-app notifications aren’t actual push notifications on my phone so unless I go into the app, I won’t see the notifications and it’s quite frustrating. The Buddy Read feature is especially fun and useful for my book club so we can see each other’s progress and read each other’s comments about the book. But no spoilers as you unlock comments as and when you reach the same % or page number.
Good but need to pay for it to be better
Can only put 3-5 books up next on free version. Cant really have a true future watch list.
Better than GR
if you want to get off GR, this is my recommendation. it’s so much better for book tracking (though it has less of a social aspect). it’s also good if you want to avoid toxicity in the book community, as the social function is very minimal. great app!

Tried it
I really wanted to like this app but after trying it for 6 months I just can’t get on with it. It’s just so much harder to navigate than Goodreads and so…messy? I dunno it almost feels like there’s TOO much going on.
I wanted to love it
After reading so many good reviews, I was psyched to find a Goodreads alternative, but sadly, my search continues. It’s easy to see recent books, but I’m often searching my shelves for recommendations of books I’ve read years ago, and is a forever scroll scenario to find anything. The stats are okay, but it’s lacking in layout and engagement.
Amazing stats
I love this app so much! Switched because the overall format of another app was lacking and stagnant. I heard about this one and just seeing the monthly stats had me sold. I’ve used this app for two years now and it just keeps improving. I’ve never subscribed to update emails from a developer before but this one-woman dev team is amazing and her mass emails read like she writing to friends… I’d love to be her friend, just not sure I could keep up with her awesomeness!

Favorite app
I love this app and it’s super useful easy to use and has a super clean interface. The only reason it’s not 5 stars is because I often have problems with loading and minor bugs. Despite that it’s an amazing tool, and has gotten me to read more!
Very slow
App is very slow or doesn’t load at all, the app if it worked well would be brilliant and very nifty with all its stats but it’s just clunky, confusing and outright doesn’t work
I want to love it
I want to love it but it’s just sooo glitchy. I’ll search for a popular book and it just won’t come up and then try it again after quitting the app and then it will find it. It’s will quit unexpectedly. Reading reviews takes too many scrolls and clicks to actually read a written review. It’s got potential just very clunky. The trackers are really where this app shines. Dev has responded saying the issues I’ve encountered have been fixed “a few months ago” but they are still happening. I will try to get screenshots in the future. Still enjoying the app a ton and recommend it all the time.
Best book tracker app ever
I’ve been using this app for years now and it is without a doubt the best book tracker out there. The data you get from your reading habits is unmatched. Whoever is rating this under 5 stars I will fight you.
Slow and Laggy
I love the customisation search feature and the ability to omit certain keywords and genres. I don’t love how SLOOOOOOOWWWW it loads. Most of the time pages never load at all. It just buffers constantly. I will unfortunately be deleting this app and finding a better one for book tracking. (The website is no better. Most of the “buttons” or links don’t even work.)
Some Features Missing

Needs to be better
I want to get away from Goodreads and Amazon but this app needs to work a lot better before it will persuade me. Navigation is not intuitive at all and it’s hard to work out how to access the information I want.
Needs more tracking
Importing from Goodreads was easy enough, but then what? Manual updating of all purchases, read dates etc, same as Goodreads? For me, that doesn’t represent an improvement. Most of all, I want an app that interfaces with my KOBO e-reader. I chose it to avoid Kindle jail, but Kobo don’t let me see a record of my read dates, which is infuriating.
