I love it
Love idea, but they don’t allow exports
I liked fable for a while, but since they’ve started leaning into AI features so heavily, I was feeling less and less good about using the app. But guess what? Fable doesn’t even allow you to export your data like other apps, so either you have to transfer manually or lose your reading data. I don’t appreciate when apps lock you out of your own data, so I guess this is a reminder for me that I should check the way apps own my data. I would’ve kept the app and still used some features if they allowed export but guess not. Really disappointed at this scammy practices

Missing books
There are a few books that I have read that are missing from Fable’s catalog. I have filled out the Google Form to get those books added, but they aren’t being added. It messes with the final count of books read, so I have gone back to other reading tracking apps.
Glitched
My cap to books is 4.75, the slider UI is made for different phones i have a one 13 pro and it won’t work.
AMAZING APP BUT COULD USE ONE THING
I LOVE fable it’s one of my favorite apps, I don’t even track on Goodreads anymore. However, I wish you could see series orders like you can on Goodreads but that’s really my only nitpick, other than that I’m obsessed with it!!
No desktop version which sucks
I prefer to type my thoughts instead of texting them.
Pretty please
Love the app but can we please get a desktop version??
Fix
I love the concept of the new update. Though when I go to add a book to my list the app crashes and shuts down. Please fix. Edited to add more. When I go to do anything with my book list the app crashes. I love this app and hope it’ll be fixed soon.
It’s fine, storygraph is better.
Here is a list of my pros and cons: Con- I accidentally added a book (to actually read on the app) on my shelf, and there is no way to back out of it and go to the home screen. I even tried exiting the app completely, but upon reopening the app it went right back to the book. I had to delete the app and re-download it for it to return to the home screen. Con- you can get charts and graphs of how you’re reading is going…for a price. You can get that for free with storygraph. Pro-it has a good rating system in terms of stars (.25, .5, .75,1 and so on, which I love. Pro- “how did this book make you feel?” there are 20 feelings, one of which is “no selection“ that you can choose from. Con- 20 sounds like a lot of feelings, but when you scroll through them and realize the book did not make you feel any of these you are left with “no selection”. Pro-“how would you describe this book?” In this part you get to use the star rating again which is awesome. you get to rate the characters, plot, the setting, and add content warnings. There is even a list of words and phrases you can use to help describe the book. Con-in the same “how would you describe this book?”Section, the list of words or phrases that you can use to describe the book , in my opinion are limited, and you cannot write in your own. Pro- the last part of rating your book is the “got more to say?“ Section, this is where you will write your review. All that being said about the rating system, in my opinion, the cons outweigh the pros. With the cons, you may as well just skip all of that and just stick with your review to accurately describe the book and how it made you feel. Pro- I don’t like goodreads however, the one thing good about goodreads is the community aspect. with fable It is better in that, not only can you like and comment on other people‘s posts you can also add memes and other pictures of your own to post. Pro & con- when searching for a certain edition, like an audiobook, if you do not find it, you cannot add it yourself like you can with storygraph. You have to request an edition be added. It is a pro because if you know storygraph, then you know when users add the edition themselves, you often see editions that have wrong information or has incomplete information or there may be a duplicate edition. It is a con because instead of adding the information for the edition yourself, you have to request the edition be put in and have to wait an unknown amount of time for it to be added to fable. (I have not requested an edition be added, so I do not know how long their process takes). There may or may not be more pros and cons. I did not play around with it too much but with what I have looked into I am still 1000% a STORYGRAPH fan and I highly recommend that you all make the switch to storygraph.
Motivation
This app has been so motivating for tackling my reading goals!
Poor experience, deleted account and app
The UX wasn’t good, the import from Goodreads was nowhere close to accurate and created duplicate lists. I was having to correct just about everything and finally gave up. Simply not worth the hassle.
Love it!!
I absolutely love this app so much. I have recommended it to all my reader friends and non reader friends. The only issue I have is that sometimes books aren’t on the app and I can’t mark it as being read or completed which is kind of annoying. They do have something you can submit in the app though for situations like to put more books in the app itself. Not sure how long it usually takes though.
Great to have another app for readers but…
It’s lovely to have a new app for readers, the app offers in depth analytics of what you’ve read through the year and you can get some insights into your own reading tastes. However, there are a couple of things that prevent me from fully switching over and using Fable more. My issues are related to the UX/UI. The app is very dark, there is no light mode and the black background with white text is very hard on the eyes. I have to strain to use it which makes me want to click off the app as quickly as possible. The second bit is around how difficult it is to update reading status of my current reading list. Too much focus on the “I read today streak” which I personally don’t care for as it’s one of those things that makes reading into a competitive sport and takes away from the enjoyment. I would prefer if there was option to disable it and instead to have a quick and easy flow to changing the status of the books I am reading. This app has a lot of potential but it’s not pleasant to use. It’s too busy, too much going on. Too distracting from what it’s supposed to promote: reading.
Please fix the notifications
I really like this app as a whole but my god. What happened with the notifications??? Why am I being notified about everything without having the options that I have with club notifications which gives us the users so much more control? Also, please give us an edit feature. PLEASE
I love this app
Amazing app for readers and people who love to watch tv!
alphabetization
when you press sort the books alphabetically in your library, it needs to be by the first NOUN, so if a book is “the __”you cannot put it under t… please fix this it’s aggravating 😭😭😭
Overall -solid app
I track using multiple apps. This one is my favorite by far but I am an ARC Reader and I constantly find the books not in the catalog. It takes too long to wait for a book to be added and using the chrome extension does not work on iPhone/ipad. Please, please fix this.
Too much locked content
Too much is locked behind a paywall like Atleast let us see how many pages we read it’s so lame. And a minor critique is why are posts about books I already read locked by spoiler warnings, the app knows I have read the entire thing I shouldn’t have a spoiler warning.
💐
Bring back the “none” option between dnf finished reading and want to read bcs now i cant soft dnf Also my fyp is SO BAD ever since i started following ppl and clubs i miss the stuff that i actually liked being in my fyp for example it was female centered and now its male obsessed which i am the opposite of can following ppl and clubs not so drastically affect my fyp i dont want their fyp i hate their fyp its not even worth retraining mine how does one even do that without getting psychic damage just looking in the feed. every time i look i am blocking a book the closest i can do is choose different genres i want to see in My fyp and have it refresh but even that is a temporary fix At least my books lists are separate from the fyp and i get recs elsewhere but still like algorithm look at the books ive finished and books i have repeatedly moved to different lists thats what i like I do appreciate knowing the spice rating tho so i can know that going in
Best app for tracking and social for bookish post
Have to say the app has been amazing have had a few hiccups with post not posting a few times but that seems to be fixed also it nice not getting judge or have negative comments on your post mostly everyone is nice and helpful which is so refreshing I also like the integration with Everand a nice touch
Ugh
It’s 18+ like why do we need to chat and all that we don’t need social media at all really who cares about other peoples “perfect lives”.
Good but almost unsatisfying
The app itself is great being as though I’ve come from Goodreads. However, I feel there is something lacking. I wish there were more color options for the themes to make my profile more unique. Another thing that could be added is us to choose what charts we have vs what we get. For example, I would like to see how my reading had changed over time. It just feels like a lot is locked behind a paywall which sucks for free users.
Technical issues
I’d love to give the app a better rating, but 50% of the time when I try to read offline the book won’t open and I get hit with a “Downloading book data” message despite the book being downloaded already. Stupidest thing I’ve seen.
not a good user experience
the layout of this app is not intuitive for users at all and i’ve tried to hard to like it but nothing flows right 😭 every time i use it i have to read every button until i find what to click bc there’s no visual hierarchy and nothing stands out. for example i hate how you can’t immediately rate a book once u click finished, you have to go to a completely different page- there’s so many barriers like this, which i know isnt the end of the world but it does make a big difference when choosing between interfaces such as goodreads
Best App Ever!
I’m so glad that my book club introduced me to this app. I didn’t realize how much I wanted such an app until I started using it. A community connecting people to various books (and cute fur babies!), what’s not to love! I LOVE the features where I can quote something in a book I’m currently reading, the rating system is better than other traditional book apps, the monthly book wraps are so cool. I love love love the app!
Algorithmic Bias Racism
Analyst Review: Documented Algorithmic Bias"As a journalist and analyst, I am boycotting Fable due to clear evidence of cultural suppression. Despite their 'inclusive' marketing, the algorithm consistently throttles authentic AAPI content—including high-quality community posts on Lunar New Year—while prioritizing generic, sanitized corporate trends. This platform values 'safe' data-mining over real representation for Asian demographics. My data has been deleted and I’ve moved to StoryGraph. If you want a platform that doesn't bury diverse voices, look elsewhere."
Loving Fable, but..
Loving fable since switching from goodreads, but i do miss the ability to scan book covers in a search
Lacking
This app would have been better than Goodreads had they made an option to link kindle to it like Goodreads. It’s the only reason I’m still using Goodreads….. will there ever be an option to link kindle to fable or should I just forget Fable altogether?
New Update
Fable went from a 5 star app to a 3 star app with this new list design. it’s confusing and ugly and the old design was SO much better. why fix what isn’t broken?
Coming from someone who doesn’t review apps…
Accessible, and encourages reading whilst making it more fun and engaging.
Fable + Everand
Fable is now “sister apps” with Everand. This is a nice way of saying Everand, a complete cash grab with no respect for its customers, now owns Fable. Since Tony Grimminck came in as CEO of Scribd/Everand, it has become nothing but a rip off. Their claims about the new platform being for “clarity” is an outright lie. I can tell you firsthand as a longtime user you can only read a fraction of the books per month I used to. It is painfully obvious the company has lost its soul, and decisions are only being made for executives pockets. Delete fable now, before it ends up a rip off too. They wouldn’t link the apps if they were not going to start adding features only accessible by paying, or locking features that are currently free.
Great, but notifications aren’t
This app is great for book clubs, tracking your personal reading, and discussing books! My only issue is that the notifications aren’t specific enough for a lot of needs, and many of my book club members don’t receive them, even though their settings are correct! It’s a major hurdle sometimes. But otherwise I love Fable!
Lost data
Fable deleted 1 year worth of data and I had to manually input the info back. It pmo so bad and took forever
Nearly good … if you have $$
Free Fable is pretty good but always disappointing to find you have to “subscribe” what happened to one time purchases?
Love🍂🤍
Great app to track reading and see other book lovers and get good book recommendations. It was confusing to use at first but I got the hang of it and I love it.
Support sucks
So dumb you can’t change your email in app like any other app or service out there. Very poor account management abilities. You have to contact support just to change your email, which I’ve tried and they’ve ghosted me. So might delete my account and move on. The only thing making me hold on are the reading stat aesthetics.
I like Fable … but
… it doesn’t keep lists in order … and the developers are unresponsive. You ask for simple things like alphabetical order and you get crickets. Repeatedly.
Meh-
If you want an app that doesn’t work 80% if the time, fable is for you. As a good reads user, I’ve never had this problem. TikTok made me think fable was for me. And when it works, I love it……. But 9x out of 10 I’m not able to access the app. It’s currently 2:13AM for me….. and all I get is the thinking window. I thought this was just a new years thing…… but 6 weeks later and it’s still an accessibility issue…. Why?

Better than Kindle for tracking
What I love about Fable is that you can edit the data of your reading log so you don’t have to log into the app every single day to mark that you read. I also really enjoy the book review process. Instead of having to choose between flat rates of 4 or 5 stars, you can do 4.25 or 3.75. I’ve been using fable for almost 2 years now and will continue to be using it for the foreseeable future, highly recommend.
Super Buggy & Near Unusable
This app barely works and is super buggy - I downloaded it to track my reading and get some recommendations, and every time I went to a new section (options on the bottom of the screen), it lagged and took forever to load. Furthermore, when I opened up books to read descriptions or add to your “want to read” list, I always got error messages - the same thing happened with the book quizzes, such as “next big read” (definitely called something different). I deleted it almost immediately after trying to navigate through it. Such a shame! They definitely need to fix some bugs to make it even usable.
Wishing for more features and cross device compatibility
I wish that I could open fable on my iPad or laptop and the formatting would fit the device instead of always being formatted to the size of a mobile device. I also wish there was a feature where I could have a banner across the top of the cover that stated how I read the book (whether audiobook, ebook, or physical copy). It would be nice to quickly see in my library for finished books how I consumed the book along with my star rating (does not need to be a public feature). I have been listening to books for the first time this year and I am picky with narrators but sometimes forget which books I read on my e-ink device or listened to. Also fable is the first book tracker I’ve used and love it; however, updates are always nice.
Rubbish
Doesn't have key modern classic titles available to choose from to add to your list and is confusing to use compared to Goodreads.
Sigh
No matter what genres you read, this app will recommend the same booktok garbage over and over again - and it will subject to banal posts from the people who read said books ad infinitum.
Messages
You used to be able to message book people on this app and no longer can Weird
Not working
It’s January 1, and I’m trying to set my goal for the year and the app just keeps force closing … anybody else?
superbe
Not reread friendly
Great app unless you reread books. Went to reread a book and moved it to current reading again and the tracking doesn’t reset. Very disappointing considering everything else they have in the app, this seems like one of the most basic features that should have been in from the start
