I love OF it is good app the best
OmniFocus 3 was perfect
I’ve been using OmniFocus for years. They over engineered OmniFocus 4 into an absolute monstrosity that goes against the basic premise of the app. So much for a simple, distraction free design.
Occasionally clunky but great at handling many disparate projects
The review functionality is fairly unique and works really well. The mobile app is noticeably more janky than the desktop version, but still works pretty well. I’m also occasionally frustrated by the cumbersome and busy UI (lots of things require a bit of navigation, or too many taps). However, the combination of defer dates and review functionality is great for limiting the amount of tasks I’m looking at, without losing anything across many projects.
Not Great
The new features aren’t that impressive and it is full of bugs and clunky new interface problems. It’s changed the way I use the app, and not for the better.
Good but still buggy
I have used and updated OmniFocus for many years and it works fine for the most part but there are still a lot of bugs that make the experience not so great. The app freezes frequently on my phone forcing a restart. When I want to enter a note, the note field is hidden behind the keyboard area on the bottom of the screen and I have to scroll the screen up to begin typing. I’m still not happy with a lot of the menu options. TaskPaper? Who still uses that? I don’t, but there it is as a prominent menu item. The pop up menu under Schedule only gives options for today or tomorrow. Why not have a way to pick any date I want?
Simply the best
I can’t imagine any way to improve Omnifocus. It has all the features I could ever use, but what I most appreciate is its flawless reliability. I’ve literally never had a problem with it.
Seriously?
App freezes ALL. THE. TIME.
Daily plans
My day is much smoother and less complicated using OF4. Once I organized my daily routines for work and personal everything was much easier. I added tags (field, desk, email / calls). This improved daily plans focus. The forecast section makes the future plans easier
Approaching Unusability
It is sad to see an app that gets worse over time not better. I have used the previous versions. The latest is the worst ever. The way the screen scrolls automatically is horrible. Often I click on something and either nothing happens or a different action is marked complete. Using notes is an exercise in frustration. Copy and paste is nearly impossible. I wish I could go back to an earlier version. Looking for a replacement.
With latest update, Widget still buggy
The Forecast Widget is still very buggy. Even though in the app itself I have asked that Planned Dates be shown in the Forecast view, the widget does not honor that in the way it’s expected. In the widget, if I have Past Items still not done, and a planned item in Today, the view of Past Items will be showing, not the planned item for Today. I expect that if there is a current planned item that that item should be given display priority over items that are Past Due.
Cures an endless list
By allowing dates to be both - don’t think about this until X - plan to do this on X - actually due on X You’re able to look from a menu of tasks (the endless todo lists we all have) and choose/prioritize what needs to happen today. All I’ve ever looked for.
iOS 26 update ruined it
I used to absolutely love this app, and I still love the desktop version of OmniFocus, but the latest version of the app is a disaster. They changed the layout in such a way that most of the screen real estate is taken up by buttons and you can only see a few items at a time. Even worse, the buttons frequently don’t work. The “add new” button in particular works maybe 30% of the time and it’s super frustrating. The tags on items sometimes show and sometimes don’t. Oh, and when you mark an item complete on a long list it jumps to the top of the list instead of keeping the current view. I’m at the point where I don’t even bother using OmniFocus on my phone anymore because the experience is so bad.
Good
😊
Issues logging in all the time
It’s a decent app but I am sick and tired of it asking me to register my account once a month
Useful always, frustrating frequently.
I use omnifocus because of the defer date and all the repetition options, it just works with the way I think. I also love the task paper input and the apple shortcuts integrations. But this is not a good app, it crashes daily, bug fixes and versions are slow, and for the money I’m paying, it should be a much better build quality.

I SO want to be in love with OF
I have used OF on and off since the introduction of OF2. When I have discontinued using it, it really hasn’t been because of the program, it had to do with my habits in using it. I even have a lot of respect for the folks at OmniGroup and all the work they do. The recent updates are exciting and very powerful. I would LOVE to be in love with OF. My problem is, I just can’t continue to invest my time in trying to resolve sync database issues. I totally took apart my system and spent a full day rebuilding it, but in spite of spending hours trying to resolve the sync issues, I can’t get it to sync properly. I’m sorry, OF—at this point, the juice is just not worth the squeeze. I’m off to Things 3, but I really feel loss that OF didn’t work for me. I did put in a request for help. It wasn’t answered within 24 hours—which is probably an unreasonable expectation, but I’ve got to get my system back online and I don’t want to live through this again. If you use and love OF and it’s working perfectly for you—I envy you. I wish you continued success.
Great product
The UI design is great, intuitive and easy to operate. However, there are still many details of UI that need to be improved. At present, there are still many places where UI jumps and animation is abnormal.
White text on a light gray background??
Seriously guys, do you even test your product? Answer is clearly no. Selecting a task changes the background to light gray, with a white foreground; yellow if the task is due. Completely illegible.
Useful but very buggy
Still has many features and customizability that keep me using it instead of Reminders, especially defer dates and perspectives. Still, I find it quite buggy with weird things that cause interface issues and require restarts to fix. For a piece of software that has been out a couple of years now some of the UI defects are just unbelievable. Select an inbox item or project and nothing happens. Hit tab on an inbox item to do some data entry, and it jumps to a completely different task. It has some really great features, but the bugs that I deal with just about every day I use it are leading me to look at alternatives.
Powerful Once You Settle Into It
I’ve been testing OmniFocus 4 over the past week to organize both my work tasks and a few ongoing personal projects. What I appreciate most is how flexible the system is. Being able to combine projects with tags makes it easy to organize tasks in a way that actually matches how I think. I’ve been using tags for context (like “calls” or “at desk”), and it’s surprisingly helpful when deciding what to work on next. The Forecast view is another highlight. It gives a clear picture of what’s coming up without feeling overwhelming, which has made planning my day a lot smoother.
Zero options
I downloaded this app, and thought I finally the app that I could use for everything instead of having multiple. I was so excited, I told 2 of my closest friends about it 🤦🏻♀️ When I went to use it, I couldn’t. It doesn’t let me save anything so I can see how it looks. I understand everything costs money- unfortunately I don’t have $75 for an app. I contacted the developers to see if they had a discount of some sort, and was told no. So with that being said- there was no point in downloading this. It seemed promising, so it’s pretty disappointing. Also didn’t come with a free “trial” period. So unless you can spend $75 UP FRONT on an app you’re not sure of- don’t bother downloading this.
Integration with calendar
I have been using OmniFocus for years since its first version. I hope you can consider adding the integration function to show the tasks on iCalendar.
Pretty - but functionally more difficult to use
In v4 many of the features I use from v3 are difficult to find, Clicks in the User Interface do not do what I want them to do; less intuitive; navigation is frustrating. I'm going back to v3 til navigation and functionality have matured in v4. (Update May 2026) - I dropped v4 and went back to v3. If v4 does not get updated with the feature sets from v3 that all worked well - I will altogether drop omnifocus, and start looking for another app. No way I will consider paying money for anything v5 when the money I paid for v4 has already been wasted.
Good but not great
There’s potential for OmniFocus to Be great, but there’s also a curious lack of development maturity or polish. Contexts, project segregation and ability to get stuff inboxed are all good, but there are better alternatives: Todoist still leads the way when it comes to salami-slicing project todos into context states. A minor irritation is OF’s Mac OS latching to native email client, which means that Enterprise Outlook users (i.e. 95% of OF audience) can’t use the Mac-based Forecast interface. Not a problem in IOS, however. Less understandable is the lack of consistent natural language processing for date/time etc. Having to select date wheels, project lists and contexts manually would be quaint were it not for the thorny issue of price… When OF is asking an up front fee of £150 for a service that pales next to its peers, the app can no longer justify itself. A shame. I was an OF user back in 2015, but the game has moved on. Shame OF hasn’t moved with it.
Simply the Best!
I don’t know where we would be without this app! We use it everyday to keep our business running. Unlike even Apple apps, it syncs everything perfectly, even between various users. Our highest recommendation!!
Not good
Start dates and due dates are overly complicated. No way to see repeat tasks in the future so no actual way to plan a head? Apple denied a refund request and my rebuttal. Well besides the clunky Ui it’s just buggy. Don’t recommend at all to anyone, except that person that cut me off while driving.
Manages complexity but…
If you have to keep an eye on multiple complex projects and accountabilities, OF4 is a great tool. I appreciate the way it allows me to create very granular detail, and then show me only what I need. As much as developers would love to sell us all project management collaboration tools, these only work if everyone wants to use them. OF4 provides a better solution: keep track of everything that’s happening in your own space. However, OF4 on iPhone is unwieldy and slow, compared to the alternatives and works best as a companion app to the Mac version. If you need granular personal project management, then OF4 is an excellent tool that can manage great depths of information. It’s just not as slick as it could be, or at this price, should be.
Trying not to lose hope
OmniFocus was a huge find for me back when I was fresh out of college trying to learn how to be an adult. Now, the most basic things that made OmniFocus a leading task management app back then are being cancelled out by buggy software and awkward UI. To be exact, by the time I hit the “quick capture” shortcut and the app launches in the background and shakily expands the dialog box, I’ve already forgotten what I was gonna write down… Sure I don’t know anything about software engineering, but this app is not graphically complex and the data I’m giving it is all text no photos. Why does it have to move at a glacial pace? (Hoping DWP2 turns out to be good, btw…) Do the people at OmniFocus not use their own software? I gladly paid for this app because I believed in it and wanted to make sure I could help keep it around longer. Please address all the broken commands and twitchy transitions. This is disruptive to the “flow” state of mind that your software was originally designed to support.
Why I switched to todoist
For almost 17 years, I ran my entire life off of OmniFocus. As long as I was managing only my own life and didn’t have to worry about working and coordinating with a team, OmniFocus was fantastic. I wrote grants, manage research projects for work and also mapped out and managed any project in my personal life and OmniFocus made it easy. However, in the last six months, I found that it was no longer sufficient to meet my needs because my research team had gotten significantly larger and I needed to keep track of tasks for multiple people across multiple states over several years. Despite many request by users over the years to add team based features, OmniFocus never evolved beyond developing excellent tools for a single individuals to keep track of things. Todoist was simply a far superior software package for managing more complex projects and teams, so I reluctantly made the switch and have found Todoist to be almost perfect for my newer and more complex work and personal life.
The Gold Standard for Complex Workflows
OmniFocus 4 takes an already powerful system and makes it feel much more modern and fluid. The ability to quickly capture tasks and then organize them into deep project hierarchies is unmatched. I love the Forecast view for keeping my day on track without getting overwhelmed by the big picture. It’s a serious tool for people who have a lot of moving parts to manage.
App forced me to write a review
Tried to open settings on the iOS app and it keeps bringing me to the about OmniFocus panel where my only options are: Write a Review (which i don’t want to do right now), Done (which brings me back to the Projects/Inbox view, or Settings (which SHOULD let me see and change settings but keeps forcing me back to the About page So I’m writing this review
Almost perfect, needs Markdown support
**OmniFocus Review - Short Version:** OmniFocus excels with its intuitive interface and powerful task management features. It syncs seamlessly across devices, supports detailed project planning, and offers custom perspectives for focused productivity. **Pros:** - User-friendly design - Robust feature set for organization - Excellent cross-device synchronization **Cons:** - Lacks Markdown support in notes, which would make it perfect. A nearly ideal tool for anyone serious about managing tasks efficiently, just missing that one feature for a full five stars.
Such a frustrating update
Have used OF for many years. This update is a nightmare. Things that were simple one-tap actions now take 2 or more steps. Multi-item edits take forever to complete. You want to change a due date? Easy to change to tomorrow, less easy to schedule into the future. Just, honestly, less usable. This will be the last update I purchase unless you find some UX people who prioritize quick interactions over offering every single feature from the beginning of the interaction. Just… so disappointing
???
Wtaf is the problem with the drag to reorganise feature?? Needs fixing asap. I thought the reviews were being dramatic but it straight up does not work. Devs need to pull their finger out asap. Crazy to leave such an insane problem untouched for as long as they have.
Low-power user
I have been using OmniFocus for years. Not as a project planning/management app, but to keep track of my bills, set due dates (recurring), and some other periodic tasks/goals. I have Projects for stuff to do “next summer”, household cleaning chores, and recurring computer learning goals. The web sync between devices has always worked well and keeps my phone and Mac synchronized. It’s overkill for my needs, but the different ways I can set recurrence (by specific date or by days since last completion) work great for a range of things like bills and housecleaning. Looks like it’s time to wash the floors.
Almost unusable app
After using OmniFocus from its very first version, I can definitively say that the app has become a burden, not a benefit. The latest release forces me to unlearn the previous version. The newest update is so convoluted that it actively wastes my time trying to figure out where basic functions have been buried. On iOS, the interface is completely overwhelmed with information; trying to quickly enter a simple task and assign a location tag is an exercise in frustration. It's frustrating when the developers insist users need to 'just learn' a system that defies common sense, rather than admitting the core experience has become needlessly complex.
Getting better!
OmniFocus is one of the few finest apps for Apple devices. Its downfall used tobe that it had too many bugs, but the bug fixes and functional improvements in version 4 are beginning to win me over.
Yikes
The iOS version of OF4 is really buggy. It works against me not for me. Dragging and dropping to reorder is apparently possible in the Forecast but nothing I try from the user forums works. This is just one of the many UX issues I’ve experienced. The Mac version seems fine but it a downgrade from v3 in my experience.
Probably should have waited.
I am thinking I should have waited a while before upgrading from v3 to v4. Drag and drop is clunky, so is editing tasks. And the sync freezes when closing the Mac version. But I am confident they’ll iron out these wrinkles and it shows great potential, so I’ll persevere. When it is as robust as OF3, It’ll be great.
Love OmniFocus
I absolutely love OmniFocus. I’m a dedicated user who has lived his life in this app for about 15 years. I’ve owned every version on every Apple device it was made for. I changed my initial review to 5 stars because the last update fixed the bugs that were slowing me down. The UI changes in this version took ma a minute to get use to but they are overall a positive change. Thank you for many rock solid and seamless years and thousands of items checked off. To everyone at the OmniGroup - Love you guys. You make my life better in so many ways.
Unusable since ios26 update.
So buggy. Keeps crashing everytime I try to create a task and add a tag. Pains me to say it. Used to love this app.
Big improvement
After spending (a lot) more time with v4 , I’m raising my rating. Both iOS versions are actually a big improvement over v3, with lots of useful layout options now. The changes are pretty drastic, so be prepared to put in some time. But it’s definitely worth persisting. I’m not as happy with v4 Mac yet - but hopefully that will get better.
Getting buggy
Search often locks up app and doesn’t provide keyboard to type search string. This has persisted through the last update.
Pretty, but so many bugs!
In general I love the new UI but it is buggy. - Watch app just flat out refuses to sync - When adding new items sometimes the keyboard will dismiss after every letter. Have to exit the screen and re-enter to fix - tapping a tag in the tag list won’t check the tag but will clear the search. Have to exit the screen and re-enter to fix - exiting out of the tag list, the tag label will have disappeared and the tags will be all over the place - Marking an action as done will sometimes cause it to grey out (expected behaviour based on setting) but other times it will just immediately disappear Overall it feels less stable and less reliable than the previous app. Appreciate that this a complex app and that a lot of these bugs might be swiftui related but makes for a frustrating experience especially given the premium price.
Outstanding!
After working with the beta and free trial versions, I upgraded to Omnifocus 4 Pro. As an architect, I continue to integrate David Allen’s GTD methodology, and found Omnifocus 4 easy and intuitive to set-up. Folders and sub-folders provide ability to contain and group specific projects into areas. Larger projects can be broken-down and nested into sub-projects. Unlike competing task management systems, Omnifocus 4 can be viewed from a high level perspective, while intuitively evaluating options to drill-down to the smallest next action detail. Other features that set Omnifocus 4 apart: First, opportunity to select the “focus” feature to view and isolate actions within a specific project; Second, ability to create and customize a new perspective to view projects and tasks that you choose to see (and no more); Third, the option to include photos, sketches, links, and detailed notes within each task; and Fourth, ability to create location-based task reminders to view on your iPhone while out running errands. Omnifocus 4 is an outstanding tool geared to plan and take action on any size project, with ability to customize screen views to meet complex or simple project requirements. UPDATE: 10-17-25. Omnifocus 4.8 is consistently improving in custom perspective refinements and new liquid design layout. In future releases, I hope to see the following: A more fluid drag-and-drop capability on all platforms; Rich text format in task notes (to include ability to format bullet points); An option to select new themes and custom background colors; and Automatic project circles progressively filled-in as tasks are completed to gauge project completion.
Developers please!
I like to keep long notes and when I click on the expanded view my screen just completely jolts down when viewing notes. PLEASE FIX THIS BUG!! Pls. I will rate the app 5 stars please I’ve been paying for all your various services for years you’re the best design company in the world! T
The tool is less important than how you use it
I've been an OF user for years now and I've fell in and out of love with OF3 many times. What matters is that an app is flexible and powerful enough to do what I want. That's where OF3, and now 4 shine. OF4 is still buggy, but it is getting there.
New version
The new version is significantly different concerning navigation and editing. A complete failure in my opinion. I’ve used the app for a long time and I can’t get around or edit anything without being completely lost. Developers may think they improved the app but making existing users re-learn the software is a regular failure in the tech space that has now fallen on OmniFocus.
Doing the big stuff well, the small less so
I’ve used OF for many years and it is fundamentally good and reliable. I appreciate the many improvements that have been made since OF3. The new layout with navigation bar is much improved, and the more independent Apple Watch app is very welcome in particular. Unfortunately the experience so far has been marred by the frustrating drag and drop experience. Is it so much to ask that it works reliably and is clear and consistent in its action? I probably manage to get the desired outcome one in ten times at the moment. Ordering tasks is a really core part of this app. I use all the platforms other than Mac so perhaps there it works perfectly, but the same certainly cannot be said for iOS and web in my experience. Grab an iPad, open Review on a decent size database, and start trying to add/edit/nest/order stuff in anger. I’m sure it won’t take long for you to want to rage quit!
