An app I get excited for on weekends
When I was a kid, I used to watch Discovery Channel all the time went to the store bought the tapes, but they don’t care about exploring the world anymore or showing cool documentaries when I found out Curiosity Stream was created by the original founders. I checked it out got a promo code sponsorship so I got a discount for a whole year and been watching ever since it’s good to know that documentary still have a place on streaming besides YouTube and Netflix
Buggy App
Subscribed through Apple Pay, but still cannot access any of the content and throws up errors anytime I try to setup the account any further than the plan screen.
Buggy for chromecast and Xbox
Love the content and will keep subscribing. But please fix the freezing and errors both in casting to chromecast and playing on Xbox app.

Good documentaries
If you like documentaries than this is the best app. If it had better funding for more originals it would be my go to for bedtime streaming. Lots of kid friendly educational content as well
WARNING: Cannot cancel subscription
Unethical subscription practices. Once they have your credit card, you are doomed. Cannot cancel online either, even on the very day that the charge appears on your credit card! Their website just sends you into a loop. When I wrote to them about this and said I want to cancel my subscription, they ignored my points entirely, but said they would cut their annual fee in half - but only if I contacted them again to let them know that I want to stay on with them again this year - which presumably means that we would repeat this process again next year. This is an UNETHICAL operation. You have been warned.
Please Add Profiles
Please add multiple profiles. As of right now there’s only one profile so if you use with your family, it’s all shared on one page. Makes it difficult to continue watching what you were watching and your watchlist gets to be too much with more than 1 person. Also on the homepage of the app on the Apple TV, please make it so that it saves your place on the page. For example if you click on a show to find out more info about it, then when you click the back button to go back to the homepage, it jumps you to the top of the page. So you need to scroll back down the page and find where you were before. Very frustrating. But still has great content, would be nice if they added more shows on a more regular basis.
Missed the Functionality Mark
I love CuriosityStream, but their apps for Apple are of piss poor design and functionality. At least half of the common functions used in other media streaming apps aren’t in their Apple apps.
Amazing Content/Too Little of It
They have amazing shows to nerd out to but they don’t have much and they don’t add much. It makes me not want to renew the yearly subscription and pay every couple of months.
Phenomenal Content!
We have such a backlog of shows to watch here that makes us laugh at how uninterested we are at the offerings of Netflix and Hulu and others. This is well worth it and so much better!
Sleezy tactics
They dont allow you to cancel your subscription with the same amount of ease as signing up for it. They wont even let you stop paying in app. You have to get redirected to some other site. Just not seeing “stop paying” easily in my app settings just felt really manipulative.

Remove from “Keep Watching”
I don’t get it. Why can’t you remove things from “Keep Watching”? It gets so cluttered and absurd. What’s the deal? Am I missing something?
“Need valid email”
I’ve been trying to the last hour! To make an account on this app and it’s been saying “need valid email” like I haven’t typed several different ones in the box. I can’t even open a ticket and ask for help because I don’t have an account. Because it won’t allow me to use ANY email.

Not family friendly
No profiles for family members. Subtitles and Audio are extremely limited. Usually English only and. It even hearing impaired options
A very good app and good customer service.
I got the app during the pandemic to have educational content on streaming. It’s a lot like what discovery channel used to be when it was more focused on the sciences. I really enjoyed the Egypt series with Bettany Hughs. The app could have better descriptions about the show to be able to dig deeper into a topic. Also, I felt that the business content was lacking. I had a few billing issues but their customer support was great and got me sorted.
Great content, catch watch much of it
I love all the content on this app but it CONSTANTLY crashes. I’ve had this app for a couple years now because when I can get content to watch, I really enjoy it, but why isn’t it fixed yet? Ready to cancel and not come back.
Wish it was better
I’m unable to stream any of the movies for shows to a different device (like Xbox or a tv) a lot of the time the sound will just stop and start (this is extremely rare but it makes it more annoying to watch). When I was subscribing I definitely was tricked because it wasn’t straight forward about the charges (it said it would be monthly but it charged me for an entire year). I love documentaries but I wish it was less buggy and gave me more freedom (there is no Roku app for this services or Xbox app, legit can only watch it on my phone

Do Not Download
Please do not download or subscribe to this. They raise the price and charge your credit card. You cannot easily unsubscribe from them. No matter what they say, they do make it nearly impossible to stop these charges to your account. They are a nightmare!

Love the content. Hate that I can’t set up a separate profile for my kid dk he can have kids mode on and I can have it off.

Not as much content as I would’ve expected. Some tech issues
There’s a good amount of science and technology-related documentaries on this service, but I’m more interested in art history. I was hoping to find more about art movements and specific artist bios. There’s a few, but not enough for me to continue the subscription. I’m also iffy about the quality of some of these documentaries. Some of the ones I’ve come across seem like they were made for YouTube originally or they have a slight political skew on the information presented. The quality of the app is just okay. The search function, as others have said, is imprecise and the casting function crashes frequently on my end.
Great service!
Tons of interesting shows with constant interesting additions. Reasonable price. They even have an option of a lifetime subscription. My only real complaint that navigation is terrible and the app feels clunky to what competition offers. I also wished if they could add “Watch random stuff” button.
Annoying
Won’t start playing next episode even though I have it set to that. Stops after every episode. Have to manually press play again.
Almost perfect
They need to tweak the TV app to make it act better and I’d like to see more content added in the history category. Otherwise , it’s an excellent and affordable app!

Text scaling very bad on iPad
When Dynamic Text Sizes are set at a high setting, UI elements are very broken. Good content but the app is very hard to use like this.
Great content
It’s like what Discovery Channel and the History Channel used to be before they became nothing but cheap reality TV and aliens. Good original content. Syndicated content is mostly from Europe so it is a refreshing departure from the American centric content on cable.
Scammy practices
You ever find a streaming service that seems perfect? Then discover it's bundled with another that looks decent so why not pay for the two. That was me with Nebula, and I only got this because it was a few dollars more for a full year. No email, no notification, I'm charged $70 for just curiositystream, a service I've still never used, and have my Nebula access revoked! What a lovely thing to wake up to for the holidays- not, I've reached out to support who claim they're fast and will get back to me in 24 hours. They've passed, and no response. Save yourself the headache and money, don't sign up for this service that will overcharge you double what you paid for two whole streaming service the year before.
Great content
This is probably one of the best streaming apps. The content is plentiful and the app’s layout is nicely put together. Probably the only problem is that the app doesn’t keep track of the content you have watched like every other streaming platform. There is so much content that at some point you will lose track. It’s kinda annoying that there is no indication of content that you have already watched. :(
Content 5 ⭐️, App 2 ⭐️
I’m writing this mainly regarding the app on the Amazon Firestick. It is INCREDIBLY slow, buggy, laggy, constantly plays videos not selected, freezes up. I have plenty of available storage, super fast internet (420mbps up, 320 mbps down) so that’s not the problem. Other apps run just fine. If only the UI was up to the same quality level as the content!

Completely NOT worth it
Calling this content educational demeans anyone who ever learned anything. Lame content, pathetically bad app. None of the content has a dateline; I’m not going to waste my time watching science shows without knowing when they were made. It’s such basic information that it’s absence makes me think they don’t want us knowing how outdated their content is.

Would love to see a feature where you could view all the videos from a creator on their page from the search bar similar to viewing a profile on YouTube.
Really wanted to like.
I guess maybe I’m a snob, but It’s really difficult or not possible to find any really good documentaries on here. It all seems to be made for tv documentaries, which are good for information if I’m really interested in a subject but I’m looking for something spectacular. I want to see something unique and not those same dumb tv cinematography and caned lines. It sounds like all those shows have the same dry writers. Make a collection of award winning videos and I’ll stick around after my trial ends.
Works on mobile devices, barely on anything else
I can watch everything on my phone, but not on the Xbox app. It won’t let me watch half of the content on there.
At first I had some trouble but customer service helped to fix it
Update 7/15/23- after leaving this review customer service contacted me and continued to work with me until it was working for those who had gotten gift certificates. They also did not start the clock on the 1 year until the gift certificate was activated. Special thanks to Gerald who contacted when I was available and personally ensured that my concerns were resolved and worked with my gift card recipients to get their subscriptions working. Because of this, I’ve changed my 1 star rating to a 5 star rating. Gerald deserves a raise or promotion or at the very least a bonus. Very appreciative of the effort and support he provided. I have the app and LOVE it. I’ve gifted memberships to several friends and family. If they can get it to work, its a great thing. However on several of my gifts there were issues with processing and setting it up. I have been trying for MONTHS to resolve this without resolution. I’ve attempted to call during their customer service hours and can’t get through. When I’ve emailed my concerns I’m told to call customer service. If getting this service its a gamble if it will work or if it will fail. If it works it s great but if it fails youre out the money with no help in sight. Thank you Curiosity Stream for replying to my concern. I HAVE send emails and the response I get is that it would be best handled by phone. I HAVE attempted to call and cannot get through. Looking forward to improvements in customer service. My original review is still valid. If it works, then its great. But if you have any technical issues, you just loose out and they take your money. One of the gift cards I sent was from March 18, 2023 and they STILL cannot access it.
Getting Worse
I use to like it, but the content is old. The audio is so poor on many of the programs that they are not really useable. When there is a series, I can only watch the first episode, the rest of the episodes are grayed out. I contacted the support desk. They didn’t help and don’t seem to speak English. I use the app on my iPad, but it seems to be more buggy as time goes on. I’ll probably have to stop subscribing soon because I am very frustrated.
GREAT STUFF, But…
It’d be nice if y’all would explain the difference between the 3 different subscription plans! Absolutely NO thought given to that at all. I for one have questions, and trying to decide between ‘Basic’, ‘Standard’ and ‘Premium’ is made all that much harder to decide. You should go into your App Store Description and AMEND it asap! I’m sure I’m not the only one who’s noticed this glaring omission! And for the few keystrokes it’d take to amend the description, it’s all the more egregious that it hasn’t already been done by now! Come on guys, you CAN do better! Oh, and I would still like to know the difference, so get in touch!
Sign-up trouble due to app bug
After filling in my name, email, and password while trying to sign up I was unable to continue. There is no button to dismiss the keyboard on my phone and I can’t continue without checking a check box that is hidden under the keyboard. Tip: check the checkbox BEFORE typing anything in any field. Then the ‘next’ button on the keyboard will let you get to the next screen.
Unstable
App will randomly fail to open, going from picture-in-picture to fullscreen with cause the app to crash every time. A paid service should be better than this.

Nice service, but…
Lots of great content but don’t waste your money on the 4K subscription tier. I’d say like 95% of what I have watched so far or would be interested in watching is 1080p at best, some might even be 720p. Not the end of the world on mobile but it’s very noticeable on AppleTV and a large 4K display.

No speed playback options for this Apple TV app. Locked at 1x Would be great if it had recommended age ratings as well to tell whether it is suitable for younger audiences
Annoying UI, but amazing content
I’ve been using CuriosityStream going on my third year now, and have loved it from the very beginning. The only complain I have is that I have to go through my history to search for the show I was watching or have to manually go to my watchlist to track the series I want to watch. It would be so much easier and convenient if these functions were present on the Home Screen. I can live with the lack of personal recommendations, but the fact that I can’t pick up where I have left off is really annoying. I use CuriosityStream on my iPhone, iPad and my Apple TV. Thus syncing my shows through all three apps would be fantastic. Please fix this issue, please!!!!!
