What people like
- Works great on Apple Watch devices
- Huge collection of classic old movies
- One-time fee feels like good value
What they complain about
- Video quality is often blurry and bad
- App crashes or fails to load constantly
- Prices went up after you already paid
- You cannot skip ahead or rewind easily
The UI is not great, but the Apple Watch app - SO FUN!!
Impossible to complain about the cost of the service. The choices of movies to watch are interesting, but the fact you can watch the movies on the Apple Watch is such great fun, and I love they keep supporting it!
Please take the Lone Ranger off of Classix+
Basically nothing is free you have to pay for all of this stuff this app sucks if you don’t pay
Silent movies, old TV shows
Be honest. Changing the previously free ‘Live TV’ , now behind a paywall, is not a bug fix.
As of spring 2026, crashes quite soon after launch
I’ve had this app forever, paid for the ad-free tier, but now it crashes almost immediately after I’ve selected a movie. Playing its live channels seems to work, but otherwise this app is broken.
Needs more money
I downloaded this because I like going to sleep to classic movies. Then it was pay $7.99 for no commercials, so I paid that. Now the movies I was watching are part of Classix+.The quality is no better, but they want more money for the exact same thing I was already watching
Amazing
I have a lot of apps, some very useful, some necessary, some come and go. This has to be the coolest app I have. The content is fantastic. But where it’s streets ahead: I can play movies on my watch! Who else does that?! Come on youtube. Great content, amazing tech on all apple devices, and constantly updating. A first class model.
The app doesn’t load the videos
It worked fine when I tested it, but after paying for it I cannot see any videos loading on the home page. It tells me it can’t connect on the internet, which can’t be on my side because all other apps work fine. I feel like I paid for a buggy, maybe unusable app.
Idea casi perfecta
Para los que amamos el cine clásico esta app es una gran idea, sin embargo, para que sea perfecta necesita tener la opción de subtítulos, al menos en inglés. Ojalá lo mejoren.
Ripped Off!
I had paid year ago 1:99 for live tv, Now you guys trying to get more money? Not in this lifetime
Classic TV
I love this app/service, and have been using it since its inception; the only thing that has consistently annoyed me is that after watching an episode of a show – instead of going back to the home screen or show page – the screen just turns black and states at the end of the show. Similarly, after a movie is over, it starts from the beginning again. These habits then leave a long list of TV shows and movies in your “continue watching” tab. I really hoped this issue would’ve been resolved with the major “26“ software updates, but it still persists.
Very Chilling
We are about to start repeating this history. Those who don’t know history are going to repeat what our latest ancestors did in the 1930s and 40s. When will homo sapiens learn that they are not special animals on this little third rock from our star, the sun.
Terrible Streaming Quality
I bought this on AppleTV to stream Walter Hill’s difectorial debut, Hard Times starring Charles Bronson. It was the worst steaming visual quality, bar none, that I have ever seen. Completely unacceptable. Washed out, and it looked like someone was pointing a bright light at the TV screen. I deleted the app immediately and will try to get my purchase refunded.
More categories please!
I’d love to see a Film Noir category on Classix; there are so many fantastic old movies that are worth watching, starring so many big names from the Golden Age of Hollywood. I can find a lot of this genre on YouTube and Internet Archive but it would be great to have more to watch on Classix.
Can’t scroll down
Trying to buy a subscription, but your app won’t let me scroll down to click on the link that will allow me to purchase a subscription. You guys have a lot of bugs on this thing to work out.
Poor quality
I paid the £8 to access the full catalogue thinking that was very good value for money to access a decent selection of classic films. Unfortunately, the streaming quality is so poor that they are unwatchable for me. I do not like to use Amazon, if I can avoid it, but I am now watching Nosferatu on Prime which is showing in far better quality. I hope this is a one off, but a terrible first impression.
Best £7.99 I ever spent
I was going to purchase Hard Times for the same price on the Apple Store. I bought this app instead. A no brainer. Too early for a review. My gut feeling is if you like old movies, this is the app for hours of entertainment.
Seems like a scam with all of the content listed which doesn't play
When you also consider that the quality on most of the things I've looked at is super low (literally defective rips in some cases) and that the shows they advertise is having they often only have one episode of, it seems even more like a scam. bait and switch to be specific. To make matters worse Apple's "Report a Problem" function will not allow a refund to be requested on this app. Suddenly, I feel like I'm shopping on an Android phone, on the Google play store. It's disappointing that Apple allowed this on the App Store and further disappointing that they do not take ownership of it being there by not offering refunds.
Classix
Thank you Apple 🍎 for at Last Unblocking the Movies, and Restoring the App ! 🥲😀 It works quite Well now !! 😅😃🥰 Taipei Taiwan 🇹🇼
Serious quality problems
The movies are public domain ones collected from around the web, so the quality varies — but often it's bad. Their copy of "Black Sabbath" (which I'm not even sure is public domain) appears to have been collected from YouTube, as it is sped up and has a big lens flare overlaid in the middle (the sorts of things done to evade copyright enforcement). This is no way to present a movie, especially in a paid app.
Frankie
I want to watch more episodes of Mr Ed and everything else, why can’t I?
Make a million
Enjoyable.
Re Plan 9 from outer space
Hi listen guys I’m having trouble watching this movie because the aspect ratio is stretched too wide.. Can anybody there help me? Thanks
Could use a bit of improvement
I've just discovered this app and overall, I like it quite well. My only issue is that it needs work on accessibility with voiceover. Please remember that visually impaired people enjoy Classix as well. Visual aspects could be improved with verbal descriptions. audio description could be added to movies and TV shows.
The last 5 minutes of every movie is missing
Why are the endings of the movies cut off? Makes no sense. I can forgive a lot, but I want to know how the movies conclude
Recent app update broke the account section
Love being able to view old movies/shows but the most recent update broke the Account section of the settings. App crashes whenever I attempt to access it.
Incredible
I hope this exists forever. I love the catalog and the live channels are outstanding. I’ve always been an old soul at heart so thank you Classix!
Why did I pay $3???
A few years ago, I paid $3, I could watch everything. Now I have to pay $8 to watch everything?? Wth was the point in the first payment?? Is this your business practice, raise prices, ignoring what WAS paid?? I understand for live tv, but everything is locked. Pretty crappy if you ask me 😡
Loads of good old stuff
I would have given this five stars; what holds it back is the limited amount of episodes for each series. The series chosen are excellent, great variety. The one time fee isn’t much for what you get, despite the incomplete series runs. I have a Netflix subscription and it’s great for more modern stuff; if Classix would start a monthly subscription, I would go for it if the series featured would get a substantial increase of episodes or complete series runs. Classix is not for people who are expecting modern movies or series but so perfect for people who have love for the great old shows.
I can't watch anything
Yesterday I was watching Frankenstein and the video worked fine, but now when I try to watch anything, there’s a crossed play button saying that I can't watch the video and it exits me out of the player. Could you please fix this in your next update?
Nice but some things don’t work
I would like to be either resume or skip ahead on some movies. Used to be able to do this but not now.
Why
Why do I have to rebuy this app ?
Public Domain Stuff That's Already on YouTube
This app just has public domain stuff. That doesn't seem bad right? Well to access most of it you have to pay for a costly subscription, and you're paying for stuff that's already available elsewhere for free. What a ripoff.
Only problem
The only problem I have is you can’t forward and rewind
Doesn’t work anymore
I was waiting to see if the developers would do an update before buying a subscription but since they haven’t done anything to improve the app I’m deleting it. About 90% of the time it’s not accessible and even when I can watch a movie it freezes. Too bad because I prefer the older movies
Loved it while it was working
March 2023 latest version 3.14, choose a movie and nothing, just a blank screen, cannot submit a ticket so sadly I cancelled my subscription. It was really great when it worked.
Cannot open app
All of a sudden, this app is not loading. I’ve tried deleting it and reloading the app numerous times with no success. I’ve searched for where I can get assistance, however, I cannot find anything. Does anyone know how to contact someone at this app?
Scam
The picture quality of the films is so blurry I can barely tell who’s who and there are chunks missing from the beginnings and ends of movies. Do not buy this
Was a good app. What happened?
This app no longer seems to work? Including the new version 2. The loading ring just continues to rotate. Something went wrong. It used to be such a good app watching classic films and tv shows. Loved it. Annoying because I also paid for the premium that I can’t access. Please fix!
Will not play.
This worked a few times on my Apple TV device. Now none og the shows in my list will not play. The shows chosen from the guide play though.
Keeps crashing
An amazing selection of movies!!!! But some have no sound and my app keeps crashing when I try to open it :( could the providers please fix this?
Great
I now have access to old movies when there was real actors and not bland cookie cutter clones
Classix
Completely worthless
Great but some errors
The Cat & The Canary is a great comedy but it says Bob hope in the description but when you watch, it turns out to be a silent movie. The Bob Hope version wasn’t a silent movie. Other than this error it’s worth every penny.
Classix Version 4
Don’t upgrade. There is no way to upgrade to Classix+ on the Home Screen. That link is hidden on the movie description pages. When that button is pressed, the app crashes. Pressing on the My Account crashes the app. When I upgraded to version 4, My List had disappeared. It used to be a good app. Gone down hill.
Amazing content, poor app
The content on this app is fantastic, all the cheese, worse/best and jaw dropping movies and shorts from early cinema. It is however being badly let down by the app. The premium membership, which is a steal, doesn’t sync to other devices, despite it saying it does, and it can get stuck in a loop playing a movie while playing another over the top. Get this fixed and it will be up there as one of the best.
Classic TV excellence
Resolution cannot be great but it is fun to see old shows from earlier times. I completely love Topper. Do tune into some beat generation ghosts.
Broken 12/2023
This app doesn’t load anything in the ipad app or the Apple TVOS app. When I click on the link for “App Support” it links to an unavailable page. Sketchy.
Great UX
Easy to navigate. Good video experience. A great app to discover the best apps from bygone times.
Needs iPad update
Works fine on iPhone, but I get no controls when I play anything on my iPad. Can’t even pause, I have to force quit the app then when I reopen and play the same thing it starts from the very beginning.
Love the selection, hate the bugs
The search option doesn’t work and the display keeps glitching. But it’s great to have so many movies for cheap!
