Ethical switch

I have been looking to jump ship from Spotify for about a year, how they treat artists, the CEOs politics and the disgusting and continually shameless use of AI generated music and even pushing that over real artists is just so slimy and feels like the death of a mixed music community. Thank you for being an ethical and frankly better alternative! I’ll take human curation and playlists over AI thrown together and pumped out playlists any day!!!

Very frequently just doesn’t work

Amazing sound quality! But the search function frequently shuts down for days and days on end. Even if I go to discover first so I know it’s not my library. And nothing, no albums or anything, in Discover will load. It’s not my wifi—every other app works great. this app rocks so much when it works, but… I no longer think it’s worth it after months of it being in and out unpredictably.

High morals but not great

Switched to qubuz because Spotify gives money to super villains and qubuz pays artists well and is morally superior. However…. After 6 months of paying double what I’m used to, I’ve noticed I’m listening to music less and discovering a lot less music that I like. The algorithm is not good, the made for you playlists are 90% songs that I would never listen to and don’t enjoy. I’m super disappointed with the discovery features for how expensive this app is. I’m frustrated with how hard it is to find new music that I actually like in this app. I would love to keep it but I’m switching back to a mainstream platform because I’m simply not finding anything I like using Qobuz… so sorry guys. Maybe when their algorithms improve I’ll come back but until then it’s not worth paying double to hate all the music they’re suggesting :(

Overall High Quality

Qobuz stands out from the other music streaming services because they have stayed true to their mission. While they have developed into a company large and "mainstream" enough to offer a wide selection across genres, they are also successful in maintaining a focus on quality. Unlike the mega-organizations, Qobuz can remain dedicated to a chosen area in art and business - music. A digital store, which makes true, permanent ownership of music files possible ... Availability of numerous audio file formats including lossless ones ... 100M tracks (just as many as any other streaming service) ... Availability of an annual subscription plan ... Qobuz is really the only service I found that offers all of these plus a "clean" and up-to-date app with thoughtful, educational material. Trusting they will continue to offer all these features ... I think I have finally found a good streaming service for the long run.

I wanted to like it, but it was barely functional for me

I jumped on Qobuz from Spotify because I don’t support what they’ve been funding. I oppose genocide and AI. I’m in the US on an iPhone 13. I heard good things about this app all over, and what I’m going to describe was just my experience. Unfortunately, most if not all its functions were significantly broken. Namely just… playing music. I was just trying to listen to some songs on a playlist I made that I listen to frequently. Some songs play no problem, others stopped in the middle of playing at least 3 times in a row. Eventually they just wouldn’t start again no matter what I did. I restarted the app, scrubbed, skipped to the next song and went back, but nothing worked. And whenever it starts doing that it affects the next 3-5 songs in a row. None of them will play. So despite paying money, I literally don’t have control over what I listen to. I checked the free version of SoundCloud just to compare and they have 0 issues like this. It’s not my internet as far as I can tell. This has been a problem for the almost 6 months I’ve used Qobuz, and it is just one of out of a massive list of bugs. Playlists cycle between the same things I’ve heard over and over, search is archaic and usually doesn’t result in what I’m looking for even if I’ve searched it recently, songs frequently don’t start, playlists have a limit of 2000, the app itself is very slow and choppy and often doesn’t register my taps, radio plays seemingly random songs that don’t sound anything like the host song, discover never got my music taste after months of using it, etc. I’m not going back to Spotify, but I do not recommend this app.

Better music reccs than spotify

Switched to Qobuz from Spotty fries after hearing about their abysmal money grabbing practices and AI slop. I wasn't all that impressed at first since it was just a music replacement and there are some technical issues. Playback at higher quality levels works great over headphones but weirdly the bass is distorted over my car speakers. The feature to change sound quality to CD quality seems to fix the issue, which might just be a hardware problem on my part but is still weird. My other main gripe is with the search bar, which doesn't always show the most relevant results unless you type the song/album title exactly. Partial title info usually only works if the music is extremely popular and searching with lyrics doesn't seem to be supported, which I hope they implement in a future update. Despite all of these flaws, I am VERY happy with making the switch. Qobuz seems to be a very music oriented app that is genuinely intent on sharing the love with its user base through its editorial content and human curated recommendations front and center. What took me most by surprise is the radio algorithm. The music played on the radio stations that are based on your music is actually new and fresh picks, with only a limited number of familiar songs mixed in. I am very pleased with this, especially when I am most often listening at work and cannot queue on my own. The number of new songs that I'm actually enjoying because of this has sort of reawakened my love of music and made me excited to listen to new stuff that isn't a rehash of just the most popular songs by an artist. So overall, I am very satisfied with Qobuz and hope that they will continue to foster a love of music!

Great audio, sloppy music curation

The actual audio offered by Qobuz is fantastic. However, for a service that promotes a prestige experience, the curation of Qobuz’s catalog reflects the opposite. Album artwork on numerous releases is low-quality and poorly cropped. Text for song and album titles is hardly edited to any uniform capitalization standard. Redundant and unnecessary extra text stating “(Album Version)” is present in a large number of songs. If I am paying a premium price for the service, the presentation of content should reflect extra care and detail for that price.

Incredible sound quality but some issues

The sound quality is by far the best out of every streaming service I’ve tried. I appreciate the lack of ai. My main issue is that it is sort of laggy if you have a large music catalog. Rn I have over 8,000 tracks in my library and I like to play them all on shuffle like on other streaming services, however, because of the quantity it only ever plays my A-C titled tracks on the shuffle or just goes on to auto play immediately after. If this were fixed it would by far the best streaming service on the market.

Least User Friendly, Most Unintuitive.

It is insane the way basic features are not added to things like the music history (such as being able to see the track) and that if you have an entire queue set up it will delete the whole thing if you accidentally tap a song that you were trying to long press for unreasonably long. Im serious this app is a pain to use. I would just use spotify, but at least this way the artists get paid a more fair amount. I do not care how good the music sounds if accessing it is this unpleasant. Edit: And OH MY GOD allow me to turn off the auto loop mode for when i get in the car, AND AT LEAST ALLOW ME TO TURN OFF LOOP MODE AT ALL!! Update: They redid the entire UI and while its somewhat more intuitive it still sucks so much. Queue clears when you accidentally start a new song, playing an album also puts it in the queue (why, theres literally a button to use that functionality) you cant go to a release by clicking the title of something, and there is STILL no way to block an artist or dislike a song. Oh and the search function is one of the worst ive used in an application on any device ever. I mean that. How are you this bad at app design. Do you even test your own app?.

Music is great and it’s awesome how ethical the company is but it’s super hard to see other people’s profiles or to share music. Also, the recommendations for similar music are not very accurate. It is also super hard to search for songs or musicians as the information you type needs to be 100% accurate and even still the song you want is never the first to show up.

Overall YES

Been using Qobuz as a replacement to Spotify and it’s ICE supporting shenanigans. I really love it overall and find the music quality to be really great. I do have a few things to note: I use a few of my long playlists (think 20-50+ hours long) in a clinical work environment, and I swear we hear the same songs all the time, even with shuffle. It’s like the app learns the most played songs and then shuffle only plays those ones again and again. One of my playlists is over 50 hours long, and we still hear some of the same songs every day. I think this could be improved. Second, I feel like a lot of the house/trance playlists I imported over from Spotify have so many tracks unavailable. Or one week a song will be available and the next week not. It really bums me out. I know it’s all licensing stuff, but it’s quite frustrating. I’ve used the music request option many times, but sometimes there is just too much. Thank you!

Growing and Getting Better

I switched over from Spotify in April and the only thing keeping me from going back to Spotify was their streaming pay structure for artists, overuse of AI curated playlists, stealing the Spotify wrapped idea from an intern without any compensation, and advertising for ICE. Qobuz had several bugs but solid bones. Over the last 4 months, they pushed out massive changes, upgrades, additions, and fixes to keep up with all the people switching over. I love the filtering system for my library, the new lyrics feature, and the for you page doesn’t feel overwhelming if I actually want to see what Qobuz put together for me. Also the section for news, interviews, and magazines centered around music are very cool—it feels like Qobuz is promoting active, engaged, and informed listening rather than passive and distracted art consumption.

Mostly Awesome Streaming Service

I suffered for years with a big streaming service that still to this day creates weekly playlists repeating the same overplayed tracks endlessly. Then they promised high resolution literally for years and only recently finally delivered, only, CD quality. I had enough, dug around several years back and discovered most audiophiles were using Qobuz. Did a free trial, was blown away the very first night. Incredible library of the music I like, e.g., Classical, Jazz, Classic Rock, Americana. Not quite as deep as some of the other services but close and Qobuz kills it with their Classical library. The sound quality has been fantastic from the get go. The lowest quality, CD, is nearly indistinguishable from the disc. Plus the high resolution tracks are spectacularly good if done from a good master - granted a pretty big if. None of the streaming services pay the artist, especially the smaller ones, jack but at least Qobuz isn’t paying the least and the annual subscription, while not the least expensive, is less than a couple of the bigger services. The wait for Qobuz Connect was long but it was and is excellent. The recent update to the app is fantastic, lyrics and easy access to info about the artist and recording. It’s greatly diminished my curiosity about Roon. A couple nits. One, search for classical recordings on the phone and tablet apps is poor. Really needs to be improved to easily sort by composer and/or conductor and/or orchestra, etc. Customer service is a weakest link. I’ve tuned many friends onto Qobuz but they can’t fix simple things like facilitating payment for Qobuz or even questions about subscriptions. Customer Service is an area they really need to improve. Overall, Qobuz is remarkable. So much great music at your fingertips and superb sound quality. Keep on listening.

Whether you’re trying to create a playlist or listening past your created playlist. Also, when I paid to transfer playlists from Spotify, some said unavailable. App is bad, sound quality is the only reason I pay for this

I want to shuffle my library. As in, shuffle all tracks that exist anywhere in my library. I can’t do that. I can shuffle individual tracks that I have added, or I can shuffle releases, which means playing a random album in its entirety before then playing another random album in its entirety. Download management is buggy. Scrolling is occasionally laggy. Occasionally takes a long time for the UI to load. Music curation is targeted at audiophiles from past generations. The fact that they cater to them means that this is a sizeable portion of their user base, and the fact that this is the case means that the reason people are here is because of the quality of the audio files and not the app features. There are incremental improvements in the ability to find new music. Radio functions are pretty solid. But there’s core functionality that’s missing. I’d venture a guess that a large portion of people using this service also use Roon, so the features present in the Qobuz app need to be better than Roon for there to be a reason to use the app. Qobuz has been behind Roon since the beginning. People already stopped using the app. It must be a huge uphill struggle to try to fix all the problems you’re having, and adding lyrics feature and whatever else all feel like shots in the dark to try to differentiate yourself or gain parity. I’m really sorry you’re in the situation you’re in.

Needs a thumbs down button

App desperately needs a thumbs down button. We need to be able to express what music we don’t like, it’s almost as important as asking what music we DO like. Just because i like rap doesn’t mean i like all rap. Or just because i like a single song from an artist doesn’t mean i need their whole discography shown to me over and over. We need a way to clean up our home page so it’s more tailored to ME. If i want to discover more or different music make that a different tab. But when i open the app home page should feel like HOME. I should see music I’m in love with, not a bunch of random albums from artists over never heard of in a sub genre I’ve never listened to. That stuff isn’t for the home page.
