It’s not the app, it’s your network!

The only issues seem to arise with ISP routers supplied by the service provider of your broadband. They screw around with the UPnP signalling. Swap the router for an off the shelf Netgear and the problems all disappear!

Can’t consistently connect to headphones

Really disappointing after buying what’s supposed to be a premium product. Defeats the purpose when it’ll only register the headphones 1 try out of 5, and then it regularly loses connection again once it has found them.

Ok but…

The app works as promised both for my Qobuz service and for internet radio. What I cannot understand however is why I get an error message with certain albums (“Album unavailable for streaming”) when the same album is available for listening on my phone if I look into my Qobuz app directly. Example: Katie Melua’s acoustic album no. 8.

Have had to hard boot my Uniti Nova every few weeks since purchase in order to restore app control. The last two pushed revs to the software have only increased this flakiness. Looks like this time I’ll need to completely disconnect and reconnect. Have a Bluesound Node at other house - 100% reliable and MUCH more affordable. About ready to bail on Naim.

Using app on MacBook isn’t brilliant

Achieves baseline functionality. Annoying popup regarding user consent to share data comes up, even after manually adjusting this in settings. Also, how is there an option for nighttime listening mode baked in, without a clock setting to turn on at designated times? That function really needs to be in place for a product of this calibre.

Absolutely worthless

New Bathys headphones and I downloaded this app which is absolutely worthless. Connecting the HPs to this app to set customization, look for updates, etc, all results in an aggravating cycle of an opening/closing/rebooting process with no success whatsoever leading to frustration and disappointment. The HPs themselves are excellent, but customizing is not possible for me. I am so surprised at this given the two companies, Focal and Naim.

Update app.

So I just bought the Focal Bathy’s MG headphones, and found out I cannot open up the app. To use its features, and I cannot access the website either. Not a good start, and from what I see the EQ system on the app. Is pretty dismal. I would think that for focal’s price point on their items, they would overall do a better job with their website, app. And EQ system.

Functional. Added Imternet Radio a plus

The app has always been bare-bones. It does what it needs to do I wish I didn’t have to select the headphones every time I connect them. The new update is welcome, the Internet Radio seems great (I’m trying it out right now) but I’m most thankful for the updated EQ graph. I’m not sure if it functions any different but it looks much nicer and is very easy to adjust. It’s the little things. I’m currently listening on the Bathys MG headphones, which are spectacular btw.

Consistency Needed

I had an android for the last 8 months and switched back to iPhone. I can’t stand android tech, but the same app worked flawlessly in that system. The main reason I switched to the other tech was the difficulties Apple has playing well with others. I have to go through several loops between Bluetooth and the app just to use my Focal’s most of the time. It’s like a new setup every time. It’s so dumb.

★★★☆☆ United States · v7.5.1 · 19 Jun 2025

Updated x2 version of this app has serious bugs

Even later update 6/25; Naim keeps changing this app and introducing new complexity. Now to “find” a device like Uniti Nova you have to do a combination of choices on your remote and on the unit that in my experience does not work. I spent upwards of $5000 for my Nova/Uniti Core combination and I’ve recurrently had technical glitches and mechanical failures. My Core unit is now in the shop back east for the THIRD TIME after the ripping drive failed again. It takes six weeks or more to get the repaired unit back. No West Coast service available. Meanwhile the Nova firmware keeps getting updates, one of which wiped out my internet radio stations. I am guessing NAIM is just incompetent and not really trying to inconvenience its customers. Still, it’s like DOGE took them over and screwed up their app. UPDATE TO UPDATE (1/25): NAIM fixed the two most annoying glitches in its metadata software described below. But the database still crashes pretty often. This happens when you try to add a composer name to the “Album” name. So put “Beethoven:” in front of “Symphony No. 5” and the database sometimes accepts it, and sometimes strips out ALL of the metadata for that album. If you tap the “Look up metadata” command, sometimes you get it back (minus your additions), and sometimes it crashes the app. Same thing happens often when you supply cover art using the “Change Cover” command. One strategy that often works is to enter metadata (artist name(s), album name, track information, cover art) one item at a time and tap save, then reindex the database by going to Albums, then back to Newest CDs. That’s tedious and slow. The Core Units costs $2300 last time I checked (the streamer costs about $3500). Why does NAIM skimp on its database development? The database never loses the information it first came up with when ripping a disc, and it balks at overwriting misinformation. CD engineers often make mistakes entering metadata, ranging from simple typos (“soanta”, “qunitet”) to obtuse album names (“111 Great Masterpieces [Disc 43]”). Artist entries are often the composer’s name or a subordinate musician’s name instead of the featured artist. The ability to correct errors and replace unhelpful information to improve searchability of albums should not crash the NAIM app. Wall Street doesn’t tolerate glitchy databases. NAIM should hire a competent database engineer to fix this app so the “Edit Metadata” command works. Also, the database indexing is slow. That could be the processor in my Uniti Core unit. By slow I mean 15 seconds to index Albums or Newest CDs. NAIM advertises that its Core Units are compatible with an 8TB storage drive. That’s 10,000+ CDs. The unit should be designed to handle all that data more quickly. UPDATE: Since I reviewed this app several months ago, NAIM has combined Focal and NAIM in the same app. I don’t have Focal and can’t comment on that, but while the updated NAIM app is improved, it still has some surprising glitches. 1) The album name field in the metadata entry screen changes every time you input metadata to a track. So you have to enter the album name, then save it (highlight all the name and select copy), then enter track data, then go back to album name, clear the last track entry from it, and paste in the album name. 2) The artist name field brings up possible matches as you type, but when you select the full entry from the list, nothing happens—or rather, the artist name field just shows what you have manually entered so far. So, for example, enter Herbert von Karajan in the artist field and (if you have already entered an album featuring Herbert von Karajan and the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra) the full previously entered artist and orchestra name will appear below, but you can’t select this shortcut because it doesn’t work. If you have more than a few of Karajan’s recordings, that means lots of unnecessary extra data entry. NAIM should fix this and update the app. EARLIER REVIEW: Previous version of this app worked smoothly and efficiently. Recent update introduced glitches that are very annoying and make this app off-putting. I ripped upwards of 4,000 CDs using the previous version. The current version stalls, even closes when I tap Albums or Newest CDs. When I do get into an album to edit metadata, the screen often freezes, or it appears in sections at intervals of several-to-many seconds. Then if I tap on, say, the Artist entry to edit metadata, several times the app has instantly closed and I had to start all over. NAIM had a good working app. The current version is a nightmare. My brother owns the same equipment — Uniti Nova streamer and Uniti Core rip and store unit (very pricey), and his equipment is now routinely trying to play WAV files as FLAC files, which results in all tracks being reduced to 30 seconds and music skipping to fit that limit. Very disappointing that NAIM has screwed this up. The dealer has been very unhelpful and NAIM has service only on the East Coast, necessitating cross-country shipping of heavy components if you live out west. It cost $200 to ship one Core unit (lighter than the Nova streamer) from Seattle to Niagara Falls, NY. That Core unit, BTW is now in the shop for the second time to repair an inoperative ripping drive. I only got it about one year ago. Specs say the unit can handle an 8TB store drive. That’s a lot of discs and downloads. Seems like the hardware should be more reliable.

Non-functional if internet is down

Certainly not everyone will care about this, but I live in a rural area and purchased Naim speakers in large part on the idea that they'd work even when the WISP dropped. They have airplay and ability to stream from your own music server on LAN. Unfortunately, while that worked when I bought them, at some point the app was changed so that if internet is down it's completely non-functional. Refuses to even connect to added speakers, that you can load the web page on in Safari. The hardware is superb (and pricey) so it's unfortunate the app stinks now. Hopefully they fix that someday, or make the Web GUI be a backup instead of just diagnostics.

Anyone could build a better app than this.

I have the focal bathys and this app doesn’t add much to the experience of these headphones. The eq is subpar - they could have considered their audience here and built something actually good. This company honestly gives no care regarding software and firmware. For example they are aware the bathys has too large of volume jumps per increment yet they never fixed the issue.

Fully functional and seamless

This app does a great job of integrating many different services. It is no simple task to support the wide variety of APIs and protocols needed and it does so seamlessly. I have not experienced any network issues with my MuSo connected to my google mesh, all products and clients are on latest firmware. Some advice for other users - some basic WiFi routers (usually the basic ones supplied by ISPs) have extremely poor firmware which can cause issues with multiple products.

Focal side not so bad

I can only speak for the Focal side of the app. It's miles better than the Sony app you'd use for the XM-5 headphones and overall the app is pretty good. Updating the headphone's firmware on day 1 was smooth. It would have earned 5 stars if it had: - A few more premade EQ presets - A label to let you know which exact value you've set your custom EQ bar to. - The ability to change a custom EQ without having to make a new one. I think sometimes my changes save and sometimes they don't, it's hard to tell. Anyway good app and the Bathys are excellent.

Focal Bathys headphones

I was concerned about the app given all the bad reviews. Maybe for the Naim equipment? For the headphones, it is a plus (1) no feedback (like on my 5909s) for ANC setting but simple on the app (2) personalization, being older I lose a lot over the higher spectrum; the app brightened music on a good curve which, as advertised, permits lower listening levels. Before I personalized I thought the headphones were Near-Perfect. Now I wonder as they sound almost muffled without it. That’s really because I can listen at a lower volume comfortably. The Bathys sound as wonderfully flat as the 5909s, but there is a quality to the sound, difficult to define, that just makes these easier to wear. The image created is nearly the same but these seem more “real” to me.
