From the beginning
I started using a Canary device when they were first introduced and their functionality and related App have grown with the company. The App is straightforward and has always been dependable, no matter where I am in the world while traveling. While I have rarely used Support since the “early days”, I have always found the Support Team to be clear and concise in meeting my questions and needs.
Turning into garbage by the minute
I had 3 canary cameras. Some for more than 6 years. Started with access to live view and historical events for 7 days free. Where do we stand today? I pay a subscription, can only see 25 seconds of live view, and god forbid there is an emergency because the amount of impossible to click out Temu spin the cheap garbage products wheel is persistent and it just keeps on popping up! So go to hell Canary! Hope your business goes to hell just like my relationship with your company!
2 cameras, 2 locations - update - much improved!!
I gave Canary a very harsh but honest review a long time ago. To my shame, I never updated it (didn’t realise I could TBH) Since the early review, canary really have improved greatly and pleased that I stayed with my canary cameras Apart from occasional firmware updates, these remain in use 24/7 and have proved very reliable. I strongly recommend the Canary cameras and app, much improved in recent years!
Beware of automatic subscription fees
The app and camera products work fine. Be very careful of the annual premium subscription renewal. It automatically renews and has increased by almost $100 every year. They will not refund the subscription fees unless you cancel before the renewal date. They clearly are desperate for the subscription fees.
Never works anymore
Canary is great when it works. But now my camera doesn’t connect and the app crashes instantly when I try to open it. I’ve offloaded. Redownloaded. Nothing. I’ve always had issues with these camera. They just stop working.
Fixed the Issue Quickly
Customer Service responded promptly, clearly explained the issue I was experiencing, and resolved it quickly. The individual was knowledgeable, professional, and made the entire process easy.
Desperate company
Keeps seeing ads or I need to pay $25 per month. That’s insane. While I paid $169 for the device, There is no way this company ever get successful while you can get much better service from Google nest or Amazon , they need to restructure completely. What is the point of showing ads how much money are you making vs getting your customers upset. Also keep getting fake alerts while I am home saying it sew something and can’t turn it off since I don’t have pay subscription anymore.
Simple way to watch out
This is a simple way of keeping in touch with the goings on in your home while you’re away. The set up is fairly simple but other than that it’s basically a plug and play type of device. It recognises the difference between people and other types of movements (flys, pets etc) and automatically arms and disarms when you come and go from your home. The only downside I have found has been that it isn’t as easy to deregister from one location and use it elsewhere; i’m sure it’s possible, but it wasn’t as simple as the initial set up.
Pretty awful
Unless you pay a subscription you don’t get any recordings saved or anything. Even when I was paying for a subscription, it was awful and only recorded like 45 second clips. Honestly, save your money and buy something else.

Great app, but lots of ads
This thing is TRASH
This is the worst camera and app of all time. It’s really the software that’s the problem - the hardware is decent enough but when you need to check on your dogs in your RV in the middle of a heat emergency, be prepared to wait for EXTREMELY LONG (and laggy) ads for trashy pay to pay phone games for AGES before being able to check if your pets are in danger. There is no way to exit out until at least a full minute or more has passed and not until You’ve tapped into the App Store 2 or 3 times by being forced to look at the advertised game app in the store before being able to finally move on to see your camera. Usually the app has enough juice in it to show you the ads no problem, but the second it tries to load the camera it just crashes out. What an absolute piece of trash nightmare. Worst thing I’ve ever bought.
Canary camera review
We’ve had a canary interior camera now for quite a few years and we use it mainly as a pet cam in our kitchen area so we can keep an eye on them when we’re away from home. It also acts as a security device as you can set it to notify your mobile when a “human” is detected, and of course you can look at your timeline of events which is very useful.
Unable to hear w/ Bluetooth Earphones
When paired on my phone, and then I click “live view” it stops playing on BT and only plays through my phone speakers. I don’t know why all of sudden it changed. I need to be able to hear the audio on my BT headphones.

solid home security
Have had multiple Canary devices for years. They have consistently worked as expected, providing solid home security. The few times I needed to contact customer support, they were very responsive - quick replies and quick resolution to my issues.
Its a trap
Avoid this scam. They have punished there early adapters by changing to a subscription model after promoting a change to the typical business model by being a free after buying the device service. Nothing but ad’s now. Edit: The app is almost completely useless. Between the ads and just how it functions if you do not pay for a monthly subscription, you basically would have to be looking at the app 24/7 to see anything. By the time you check the app to see what any notification was about, it is either gone, as they do not save them, or what ever trigger the alarm is not in frame anymore. Then you respond with a giant ad that does not address any issue. At least the device holds doors open quite well, the only feature you do not have to pay for monthly.
Useful App
App is useful, however there are often lags between cameras sensing movement and notifications received.
Needs update
App use to be great. Now ehhh got and extra star from me to make it 2, but lags late updates and doesn’t switch automatically like should -_-

Non functioning app
This app crashes when opened. Literally non functioning app. I feel bad for the poor saps who buy this atrocious product.
A solution that worked out if the box
I managed to purchase the camera at a very reasonable price. It was really easy to set up and it does a great job of monitoring. I like the away feature where it recognises that we aren’t home and automatically monitors For movement.
Ads??
Why in the world would a security app randomly push me into ads for mobile games? Not a good vote of confidence from the outset.
Wish it was a little more user friendly
Does the job, wish the camera’s were smaller, I started with canary when they business first popped up in canada, because I pay for premium membership I’m not really willing to move companies, wish it was easier adding cameras to the same location, also wish you didn’t have to pay more $$ per premium membership. I feel like one fee for all makes sense.
Amazing Customer Service
Absolutely Stellar (and impressive!) customer service. I had an issue that was addressed professionally and expeditiously! It's refreshing to be treated respectfully, and as a customer who truly matters. Kudos to Canary for their great customer service.
Crashes on Launch
The app crashes on launch on my iPad Pro and my iPhone Air. I cannot access the Canary View at all. I messaged Customer Support and was told to do a password reset. I did, to no avail. I then asked to delete my account, but was informed the app was the only way to do so. Eventually, I bought another company’s camera since the Canary software would not work. As for the hardware, it became for me obsolete e-waste destined for Apple’s recycling program. This camera once was the workhorse of my smart home security system (and I am grateful for what it offered then), but unfortunately the developers turned the app into a clunky, unpleasant experience where a “free” 30-second view of your home arrives between ads. Even if I could tolerate the ad-based “free” experience to access my Canary View (and I was willing to accept that bargain, at least initially), the broken app forced me to move on.
Generally reliable
Good clips though links a bit disjointed at times. App generally good but one or two features hard to locate. Otherwise would highly recommend.
Away mode
Canary will not detect my location and is constantly on home mode when i’m away 😞🤬🤬
Offline
Ich hatte meine CANARY seit etlichen Jahre und mit vollem Vertrauen im Einsatz, auch um unser Zuhause sicherer zu machen - das war ja auch das (Werbe-)Versprechen der Anbieter. Nun gehen wir endgültig offline, denn mit nur 3 Stunden Timeline im Basis Plan ist sie mir nicht mehr sinnvoll zu gebrauchen. Da gibt es inzwischen ganz andere Möglichkeiten und meine wird verkauft. Vielen Dank für das zumindest gefühlte Mehr an Sicherheit bisher, aber sorry - so lässt man Nutzer nicht im Regen stehen, wenn man ein innovatives Produkt vermarkten möchte. Alles Gute für die Zukunft!
Best Home Security Service
I’ve used Canary for years. Totally safe & satisfied. Great value. Live stream, historical timelines. Great customer service.
Worst security camera company
Their app is so dumb. If yiu enable face id, you also have to put passcode. Why. It should just work on your face id. Their showing the ads in free model is absolute terrible. These are > 1 min ad you have to sit through. No wonder with these types of functions they have trouble making sale. I will never buy their device again.

Cannot open the app after update
As it happens very frequently after the updates, the app crashes immediately after opening and can’t run. There were at least 4-5 updates in the past that resulted in the same problem. Then there is a wait, sometimes, short sometimes longer, for another update to fix the previous update and make the app usable. It doesn’t inspire confidence in the reliability of the app.

Dave did an excellent job on February 4, 2026. After several attempts to trouble shoot my problem with no success, Dave was able to walk us through the processes to resolve our issues. Great job!
App Breaking Ads
Full screen ads pop up with no way to dismiss them, even after waiting several minutes. The only way I found to get back to the app was to completely quit the app and relaunch it. Other apps had dark patterns to mislead the user. Unusable.
Reliable system
I’ve had these for about 9 years now. The app is constantly improving. The camera quality is excellent.

Good but you should fix some probs
set up molto semplice, ho avuto altre telecamere ma questa è la migliore! Difetti: problemi di consumo della batteria (solo ultimamente, credo a causa dell’aggiornamento), video brevissimi e non memorizzabili, se vuoi qualcosa di più devi pagare (cosa che ho fatto, perché in caso contrario la telecamera sarebbe servita a poco) , ultimamente non mi permette più l’accesso perché non riconosce la connessione di casa (dopo anni di uso) e mi ha costretto a permettere le connessioni non autorizzate per poter comunicare con l’apparecchio😱 per questo non do 5 stelle, correggete i bugs per favore!!!
Customer Service is GREAT!
I have had Canary’s in my home for years, maybe a decade (not sure when they came on the market) and not only do I love them, but their customer support is bar-none the best in the business. When I first purchased them I couldn’t get one of my 4 Canary’s to work, and I swear, they worked with me for dayyyys trying to fix it. It was unbelievable. They never even suggested I buy another Canary, just kept trying to fix the problem. But recently, I had an issue (my fault) where I needed them to change my annual charge to another credit card, but the payment had already gone through on the wrong card before I caught it. The CHAT guy worked on this for two days! I mean, who does that??! It wasn’t their fault, but still “John” worked with upper management and changed the charge to another card! I’m sure it was a silly problem for them, and especially because they already received their money, but it was pretty important to me, and they never gave up until it was fixed. CUSTOMER FOR LIFE!
Don’t do it
App disconnects from the service too much… especially for a pay (premium) service. If you have the free service then maybe you can deal with it.
Good camera
This camera is easy to set up and use. It provides a good quality picture and notifications of movement come through quickly. The additional features are also useful.
New version is horrible
App constantly crashes and is much slower to navigate than older version with different GUI. I also have an issue now where Canary doesn’t register I’m home right away, and I then get alerts when I shouldn’t be. Wish I could downgrade. Strongly recommend avoiding this new version until the bugs get ironed out. For a pay service, I am extremely unimpressed. I will consider a different home security solution in the near future.
Missing landscape view on iPad
The total lack of a landscape mode on iPad (and iPhone) is really disappointing. Maybe not a big issue on a phone but on a tablet ...
System Review 2026
Excellent security system and app. The cameras are very easy to install, reliable and provide excellent video playback. I am using Windows 11 and iPhone 16 Pro Max with iOS 26.2 without any issues with 5 cameras. Customer service is very helpful and located in New York, not outsourced to foreign countries.
Terrible
I've had this app for many years. 2-3 weeks I started having issues viewing even while inside my home let alone when I am out. No solution has been provided- deleted and reinstalled the app and same problem. I can't view video all I get is incorrect connection! Well I've had the same connection for numerous years.

There used to be so much more available in the app; now much has been moved to subscription. The worst change is the roll back of history from 24 to 3 hours on the free plan. You should be trying to make the paid subscription MORE enticing, instead of gutting the utility of the free plan. Very frustrating for a pricey piece of hardware.
WLAN-Problems
After WLAN was disconnected, Canary dorsn't reconnect from itself when WLAN is on again: it says "Canary is offline".
