No better than Google Maps / Charged me $50 for a free trial
Save your money, Google Maps and other similar apps are entirely free. You also can’t turn off the google locations from this app - so on top of any locations you saved, a bunch of needless Google “Points of Interest” clog your screen. Additionally, I selected the free trial and it charged me $50. I reached out to Mapstr within minutes of it charging me $50 and they ignored my support request.
Need option to replay videos
Needs an option to be able to watch the video that was used to upload the restaurant or activity so that you can see exactly why you were interested before.

J’utilise cette application depuis plusieurs années et je suis tellement déçue de devoir maintenant payer pour pouvoir entrer des adresses ! Ils auraient pu rendre d’autres fonctionnalités payantes, mais pas une option aussi essentielle que l’ajout d’adresses. Cela me donne moins envie d’utiliser l’application. Je préfère faire mes recherches sur Google Maps, où l’on peut tout voir sans avoir cette limitation.

I have been using mapstr for about a month now, and my biggest issue is that their Support does not in any way, shape or form respond to issues. I have sent two separate issues to their support and I never received a response. It’s been about three weeks now and nothing. The other big issue for me is Mapstr claims that its maps can be used off-line, as long as you were connected to an Internet connection before going into areas with no cell service. This is absolutely not true. I spent a week in the Palouse region in Washington and we lost connection several times to the point where I could not see where we were and had to use other maps to navigate. I paid $60 for my subscription and I get no help.
Updated Review
The developer asked me to update my review, based on their response. Initially, I did not get a response to several emails I had sent with questions and I only heard back when I left a review. They said they did not receive my emails. I sent them screenshots showing my emails sent to them. Didn’t get a response to that. Okay, now that they answered my questions: Can I have the icon for a location be both a color and an image by default so when I create new pins, then I don’t have to keep recreating the wheel. No plan to do this. Asked about a select all pins option (to make changes to pins) - don’t have but may at some point in the future. But my largest issue was when I was in the Palouse region (SW Washington) for one week, I had several instances where my pins completely disappeared from the map, and I had no idea where I was going and had to use street maps for navigation (like in the good old days). This is what their website says about offline maps: “If you're abroad or in an area without a network, your Map remains accessible even without an Internet connection”. I definitely did not experience that. I think to get true offline you need something more substantial than an app. Overall it is a bit better than the app I came from that lost pins of mine. I honestly say you should not trust any third party with your pins, back up on Google Maps or a spreadsheet. I learned that the hard way.
Exactly what I was looking for!
My family and I love coffee. Everywhere we go we look up the best places and hidden gems, but I’ve realized after 50+ places it’s hard to remember them all. I wanted a way to record them on a map that I can go back to when I’m near the area…. Mapstr is perfect!!!!
Subscription pricing is not worth it
I had been using this app for years, recommending it to friends, and generally loved the features. The one functionality complaint I initially had was that it doesn’t show a dot or even general area of where you are so it is harder to see proximity to your pins. But I understand it’s not a maps app so fair. Now, with being charged a subscription to add pins over 300, I will switch back to Google Maps and saving pins in my lists there. I understand that this is a product and needs to be profitable, but a subscription model is so disappointing. If there was a one time payment, I would do that in a heartbeat and I would be willing to pay a decent amount if it was a one-time fee. But with subscriptions these days, there is no guarantee that the model won’t change or prices will be hiked in the future. So while I can easily afford the current pricing, I don’t want to risk losing my pins when the payment models change and I can no longer justify a monthly/yearly charge for an app when there are free alternatives available. TLDR: I’d be willing to pay for this app, but not in its current subscription form.
Great App - Pricing Needs Reviewing
Love the APP, it’s probably one of the better ones for travel and being able to navigate where you are / see places that are near you. 😀 Only issue is the recent pricing structure, completely understand that the app has no ad’s/needs to be funded but £49 is a lot when the app used to be free.

D’abord prête à désinstaller l’appli, vous m’avez envoyé une offre promotionnelle qui m’a convaincue de souscrire pour un an…mais j’arrive à échéance et me vois désormais obligée de résilier. Sold with subscription, unusable
At one point was one of my favorite apps, I understand why they had to go subscription based but the constant huge add that blocks the screen constantly to buy their paid version is really annoying and makes it very difficult to use the app I wish you were able to just click it once and it goes away forever

New Review (11-16-24) I wrote this review a while ago, but since then they have updated the price to a more reasonable amount of $60/year compared to before where it used to be $140/year. I understand that there are operating costs related to storing our pins, I will gladly support the app now that the subscription amount has been lowered. Thank you for listening to the reviews that people left on here. Old Review (10-17-24) The one thing that I hate most is the fact that I can no longer add unlimited places without having to pay $20/month, or $140/year. I understand you need to make money to support this app, but please, do not make the 300 place limit part of the subscription. I will no longer recommend this app since you now have a cap to how many places I can add. 300 places is like nothing, it would be better if it was unlimited for free like it used to be for all these years.
Used to be fun, but now it’s just thirsty?
I liked using this app to track restaurants, etc., but now I can’t do anything without being asked to upgrade and pay. I’m looking at alternatives now. What a bummer.
So much fun, but incorrect addresses are inconvenient
I really enjoy this app. I love that I can customize my colors and add unlimited labels for places. The icons, while limited, are great too. My main gripe is that the addresses and places on the map are sometimes incorrect. There is a button to report, but I have reported multiple places, some multiple times, and I have never seen one corrected. This makes me not want to pay for the app.
Totally worthwhile app!
I find Mapstr immensely useful as I travel around the world and discover special places to eat, drink and visit that I want to share with friends & family. I find the app easy to navigate, populated with helpful prompts and links, and high on ability to curate (scope) who can see your posts. Highly recommended by someone who shuns social media and apps-of-the-week!

Bugs récurrents
Tout d’abord, il faut dire que je suis absolument fan du concept de cette appli. Mais ces derniers temps je constate de plus en plus de bug. Ce soir par exemple il m’est impossible d’ouvrir l’application qui crash instantanément, assez régulièrement quand je suis dans l’interface permettant de rechercher autour de moi des restaurant l’application ne tient pas et finit par se fermer toute seule,de même beaucoup de restaurant que j’ajoute sont localisés sur la carte pas du tout à leur adresse…. Pour une application gratuite ce sont des choses qui s’entende, mais dans la mesure où l’abonnement mensuel est quasiment à 8€ (ce qui est TRÈS cher pour une application mobile), ça me fait hésiter à la supprimer. Je sais qu’il existe une « offre annuelle moins cher », mais débourser 59€ d’un coup ce n’est pas toujours possible

Every feature you could think of is here. Save a restaurant? Easy, just search it. Want to tag is as fast or fancy? Use the tags. Want to document a specific experience and what you liked or didn’t? Add a visit with notes. Want to go? Click Go and open the directions in Waze or Apple Maps. Add photos. Add descriptions. Add icons. Check what’s nearest by proxy. Whatever you want, mapstr has it. Love this app. I swear by it. I use it daily. 10/10. Top 3 apps.
Was free now huge charge
I used to enjoy using this app to log where I’d eaten and visited but now there is a charge that is huge for an app of this function. It’s now unusable to me without the subscription.
This app is pretty simple
Even better if i could have collaborative map thats shared with friends but private to strangers. We have more icons to use or to be able to use a photo as a profile
Loved it but no longer can use it
After transferring all my saved places from another app a couple years ago, I loved this app so much! But now they’ve moved to a paid model, which I can’t afford. It won’t let me save any additional places. It also doesn’t let me easily delete old places either (I say bulk delete is for paid members) – I’m finding many of my saved places have since closed down, but the app does not relay this information. Sadly will be deleting after enjoying using it and spending so much time in saving. Understand why they are charging but wish I hadn’t used it in the first place and stuck to google maps like my friend recommended

J’étais abonnée à la version plus, mais 59€, c’est beaucoup trop cher. D’autant qu’il y a pas mal de bugs (adresses mal placées, sites internet faux, horaires inexacts…). Dommage l’appli est pratique mais pas à 59€ l’année !
Amazing App, Hoping for a One-Time Payment option in the future.
It's a very good app. Simple to use and navigate. The developer was kind and responsive when asking for a possible One-Time Payment Option in the future because the subscription makes me hesitate to commit long-term. I understand cost needs to be covered from growing user-base but let's hope for that option. Otherwise I love this and would gladly pay a One-Time $200 for it just to avoid another Bill long-term.
Disappointing new charges
This was my go to app from the beginning. I was even given an elite status. I had loved using the app and shared it with many family and friends. I’m in the travel industry and am in contact with many people. Now to find that i am not able to add any more pins (i have 300) without paying a rather steep price to access, use and add more pinned spots seems sad. There was no soft launch that I am aware of nor was there warning given to the users who had been using this app from the beginning (was there no grandfather option) is really a slap in the face. This was great but it is by no means a necessity like a music streaming app. It’s an app you use while traveling. For this reason i cannot do a subscription pricing. This developer definitely is doing a money grab. Why couldn’t we just pay a flat rate and be grandfathered in? This is not even a monthly use app. Just for travel. I recommend AVOID USING until a more reasonable pricing option materializes. $12 per month which is that the developer was asking was clearly not going to happen so it appears he has brought it down lower…still not realizing that an app that is not needed for daily use is a hard sell at an recurring price. I’ve heard Pin Drop is great and will be switching over.
Would be great if there were more icons
I’m planning a road trip and have had to settle for a few icons that don’t really make sense. Please add icons for: • Public toilets (perhaps a male / female sign) • Healthy foods (apple, broccoli) • Animals (dog, cat, etc.)
Getting worse
The app was great a few years ago. The entrepreneur needs a new hobby/ business. Mapstr fundamentally was a great idea and scalable. Then it tried to become a social media (costly).
Cool app, needs better map results
The fact that they advertise better map results/accuracy for premium is really dumb considering the entire app hinges on exactly that. Offer paid options for other content that's fine, but implying you're withholding more accurate results is frustrating. Overall cool app.
Best mapping app by far
As somebody who likes to sort things in … the most specific ways possible this app has been a life saver. I live in New York & work at a dive bar so i’m ALWAYS finding and hearing recommendations. Weather it’s in the city or another country. Being able to easily track everything, color code it with as many tags as i want, rate it / add photos AND be able to share my account with bar guests who are visiting and want some recommendations in the city (and let’s be real, there’s too many to remember off the top of my head). Along with the tag of knowing what’s currently open. I’ve been wanting an app/format like this for so long & google maps / map keys weren’t specific enough for me. I could not recommend is app enough.
Long Time User Leaving
Recommended this app to many friends, now switching over all my saved places to another app. Far too many similar options out there to justify paying (year after year) for this. I would happily see adds to avoid paying a subscription. Just not worth it IMO— this app was good, but not groundbreaking. Seems like many others feel similarly about the sudden subscription/premium structure. MY RESPONSE FOLLOWING COMPANY REPLY: ~$60 per year with your current “discount” x 15 years of use = nearly $1000 over the years. … and if you ever stop paying and being chained to the Mapstr subscription… boom! All those payments for nothing ✨ In the bigger pictures, it’s way more than the “few dollars” you keep pushing on customers to repeatedly shell over. ….all to just mark down where you’ve been over the years… please!! I’d like to think I spend my money as little wiser than that. The cost structure, inability to “buy out” a premium account with a one time fee (I’d consider staying if so), and unprofessional replies are very telling about the management style at your company. A rug pull of a sudden paywall is offensive to your long-time customers. That’s business 101. I fear you’ll lose many others soon if major operational and managerial changes are not corrected. Hope you can fix them soon. I didn’t want to leave the app but am afraid I’ll have no choice.
Not good anymore.
This App was simple and great to use but after the updates and addition of in app purchases i no longer use it and have deleted, sometimes when a thing isn’t broke don’t fix it.
New pricing model a deal breaker
I’ve enjoyed this app for a long time, and I would love to pay a reasonable price for the developers to continue evolving it, but the price that they are now requiring for users with more than 300 locations is absurd. The monthly fee they’re asking should be a one time cost to use the app indefinitely.

Another Lost User
I’m a long time user of this app and have really enjoyed it over the time I’ve been using it. It’s met my needs and I’ve enjoyed the features. Along with many other users who have recently reviewed this app, I am frustrating that this once free app is now a subscription app. While I can understand the need to monetize the app, in my opinion the subscription fee far outweighs the value of the app. It’s comical to read the developer responses trying to justify the fee. I look forward to getting a good laugh out of the response I get. I hate to walk away from the app, but I will no longer be using the app. I wish the people behind the app the best of luck, but I fear this business decision will doom the future of the app.

2025 will be my 5th year as a Mapstr user! 🥳🩵
I use the plus version and it’s ok for my personal needs as a flight attendant. However, there are just not enough organizational and personalization features on this app for me to justify continuing to pay over $60 a year for it. Sorry. I do have some ideas/requests that, in my opinion, would make Mapstr GREAT and worth it for me to keep purchasing: 1. Put tags into folders on sidebar. I have around 80 tags and over 500 places saved. The tagging feature on Mapstr is probably my favorite feature. I like how, with it, you can create multiple maps in a way. I love my main map and how I can view all of my saved places at once, however, having to scroll endlessly down the long sidebar list in order to select the tag I want to view in isolation is extremely tedious. The way that it’s set up now is just not intuitive if you have more than 10 tags. Adding a feature that would allow for the grouping of tags in the sidebar would GREATLY enhance accessibility and organization. I also wish that the folders would extend to adding a new place. As in, when adding a new plan to my map, I would like my tags to be organized into folders so that I can find them easily instead of having to scroll through my long list of tags. This feature is my NUMBER ONE request. As my map gets larger and larger by the year, I will absolutely need a better way to organize my many tags in the sidebar in order to continue using Mapstr and renewing my plus membership in 2026. 2. Upload your own icons. Mapstr offers a very limited icon selection at the moment, and there are times when I want to get really specific with the icon, or there is just not an icon that properly encapsulates the place I’m saving. Sometimes I just want a photo of the place as the icon. I personally am not a fan of how the icons on the map go multicolored once you start adding colored tags. It looks messy and prevents brain pattern recognition. The ability to upload personalized icons (like from flaticon or icons8) would allow for more personalization and organization. If not, there should definitely be an option to choose solid colors for map icons without sacrificing the use of color coded tags. 3. Add icons to tags. This ties in to number 2 and is pretty self explanatory. I currently use an emoji at the beginning of my tags, but similar to Mapstr’s icon library, the emoji library is very limited. 4. A functional iPad app. I do the majority of my travel planning on my iPad, and having to look at Mapstr on the tiny iphone screen in the iPad version is less than ideal. I think that when charging a subscription fee, the software should be accessible and tailored to work properly across different types of devices. Side note: the one star rating is for visibility as I notice that, on the AppStore, most app developers tend to only read and respond to negative reviews, unfortunately. My realistic rating for Mapstr would be ⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 If and when I do receive a reply, I will definitely go back in a change my star rating. I hope very much that Mapstr sees this. I am a big fan and loyal user since the beginning! :) DEVELOPER RESPONSE You know you can reorder your tags right? I completely understand, but reordering tags is not the same as organizing them into folders, which is what I’m asking for. While reordering tags is useful, it doesn’t negate the fact that I still have to scroll through 80 tags to find what I need, rather than having them neatly arranged in folders or a dropdown menu. What do you mean by emoji are limited? Limited as in there are a limited number of emojis and you cannot create your own or personalize them. We're working on icons by the way and we're looking into the iPad but that requires tons of redesign. iPad software should have been released or at least in the final stages of design before charging a subscription fee, just my opinion.
Miles better than google maps
Probably my favourite app. Great for travelling, sharing recommendations to people visiting you from abroad, and inspiration when you want something new, or to look through all your favourite places. So so much better than Google maps which you can’t customise!
Sad decision to overcharge
Long time user and thought it was great. I appreciate the long run, but I can’t imagine how with thousands of customers the company couldn’t prosper with a reasonable yearly fee—or even better a one time purchase price (like software programs used to be and most purchases still are). I expect customers will vote with their feet and this will be the end for Mapstr unless a drastic change is made to their subscription model.

**** UPDATE**** Got a personal response from the founder of Mapstr, he guided me through the issues I was having and helped me sort them out in no time at all. Amazing service, amazing app. Would recommend to everyone who likes to travel. Top service! Thank you! Been using Mapstr for a couple of years now. Brilliant app, so handy for travelling. However, recently I started it using on an iWatch. It worked perfect to start with but lately, has stopped working. Have done everything apple and the developers recommend (restart, delete and re-install etc etc) and it still won’t load. Just cuts out every time I load it up on the iWatch, but works fine on the phone. Have spoke to some friends who use it and they have had the same issue. Any ideas how to get around this as I’m going away this weekend and would live to be able to use it instead of having to walk around with my phone in my hand??
Needs a fix for crashing bug
Oops after latest update app just crashes Wonderful app it's easy to use and very handy for marking favourite places. It has pride of place on my home screen.
