Best budgeting trip tool
I volunteer for many organizations and also travel extensively. This keeps me on my travel budget as well as documenting expenses for my volunteer activities!
Annoying
It asks for reviews over and over again
Need two changes
This does most of what I need. But it has two serious issues that are sending me looking for an alternative. The first is that it doesn’t identify US states for its locations. If I am still in Richmond, VA entering an expense, it will select the correct “Richmond, US”. If I enter it when I’ve moved on to Raleigh, I have to guess which of the seven “Richmond, US” it should be to place the expense in the correct location. If I guess wrong (and I have only a 14% chance of being right) the summary for location based expenses is off (there will be expenses in two different Richmonds). The second is if I’m entering an expense in a location the app never heard of (like the big travel center in Kenly, NC), there is no way to tell the app it occurred in Kenly (not even in “Kenly, US”). There needs to be a way to enter new locations, even if they stay in only local storage.
TripCoin Can’t Import Any Data and Support is Non-Existent
After the death of my beloved Trail Wallet app, which I used for over a decade, I considered two similar apps: TripCoin and TravelSpend. Some reviews indicated that TripCoin could import CSV files. When I didn't find this feature after installing the app, I wrongly assumed it was only available in the paid version. However, TripCoin does not support importing data from any source, which is a deal breaker for me. Additionally, the user interface is very plain, resembling a basic website form. I also didn't receive any response to my support request through their website, which contributed to my negative review. On the positive side, this app is more affordable to purchase outright, unlike many other apps that require monthly subscriptions. Ultimately, I switched to TravelSpend, subscribed for one month to import my old CSV data, which I could then continue to use for free. However, I decided to pay AU$99 for a one-time Premium license to support them, especially since their support team responded to me within 24 hours. It boils down to a cheaper app with fewer features and no support OR paying more for additional features and support.
Doesn’t backup
No iCloud backup, if you lose your device you lose the data of this app as well. Its great but lacks the backup.

Improved with the latest update
Update: This app has been improved and functions restored since the latest update. Looking forward to more. Previous (prior to latest update): I’ve used this app for well over a year. It was simple and functioned well. But now, it’s completely different. It does not remember the location and has to be entered for each entry - very annoying and time consuming. The quick edit function is only available on today’s entry and doesn’t remember any of the fields like it used to. The new look also makes it hard to differentiate between the days. The email backup is gone and you are forced to use Dropbox. So many things changed and not for the good. Please put some of these features back or you will lose more users.

Not a fan of the latest update!
I’ve been a user of TripCoin for many years but am not a fab of the latest upgrade (Mar 2025), which has made the layout a lot less user friendly and intuitive.
Great, but…
I stumbled upon trip coin a few years ago trying to keep track of what I spent on a trip. If I stay disciplined, I could use it to track monthly expenses. Would love if it had a monthly calendar view outside of splitting expenses. Also, when I export my activities into excel, there is no differentiation between income and expenses.
New update ruined app
Hello? You just destroyed your app. I’ve been using this since December 2024 for a Europe trip that we’re currently on. The app updated without my knowledge and erased all of my notes on previous transactions. The transactions are also listed weird and confusing? Why are there negative signs in front of all the amounts? And the numbers don’t make sense. For example, look at this daily entry (this is how it reads on the new app): Feb 23, 2025 -$123.98 Groceries -$39.29 Food -€33.79 Lunch -$97.67 Food -€84.00 84 euro is not $97.67, so where is that number coming from? (All of my transactions are messed up like this). And then where did the total of $123.98 come from? Please go back to how the app was before. Thanks.

Amazing at tracking expenses
I love that I can put in EVERY expense in the currency that I’m spending in the country that I’m in, and it will automatically convert it to my home currency. The fact that I can also upload a picture of my receipts is a great bonus. One thing they could be done to improve the app is allowing me to track expenses that I didn’t pay for (like meals paid for by others) and then be able to exclude that amount from the overall total. It would then act as a way to document expenses as well as the places I’ve been to. Still a great app!
Terrible upgrade!
No longer easy! For some reason entering the amount is not working well! Tried cleaning my screen, still did not work?

Seems to be helpful in keeping tabs on my spending, however I am struggling to find any information on what source or sources they use for the currency conversion rates. I also cannot find contact information to ask this question.

New version is not so user friendly visually
Previous version was more immediate to read. Would be nice if the days were properly separated like in a table, instead of just using bold characters.

Don’t do the update!!
I’ve used this app for a long time and it’s been great and now there’s an update and now the app doesn’t work. I just have a white screen now. Hopefully I didn’t lose all my information. There’s no developer website and no way to get help. Hopefully you see this and help me and I’ll delete it.
Love it & Have Some Ideas for Improvement
I’m loving the app! Some suggestions I’ve come across through using it: 1) I wish there were options for how to organize my expenses. By date can be helpful, but I would mostly like to see them organized by spend category (and then within that field, each expense could be organized by date). For example where the dates are in black, I would like to see FOOD, with food purchases in chronological order. 2) I wish I could input the total cost for something then how many people it was split with so it keeps track of just my portion without me necessarily having to do the math beforehand. 3) I noticed once I input an expense I meant to split over a couple days, I couldn’t input the duration while editing. I had to delete the input and restart it. 4) I would like the option to select certain expenses (from multiple categories) for exclusion. I travel a lot and have a set budget for each month, but sometimes I have to pay for things well in advance. So, while a trip may be in January, I actually paid for part of it in October and would like to select the pre-paid items to exclude when making sure I’m sticking to January’s budget.

Latest update not opening
The app refuses to open in the latest update. I just get a white screen. The developer website and contact details don't seem to lead anywhere so I'm forced to leave this review to try to bring attention to this issue. I hope they can resolve it soon and that my data isn't lost as I'm coming to the end of a long trip and I have a lot of information in the app!

So far so good.
So far I am happy with this app. I am continuing to test it further to see if I should change the rating. I choose this app after XpenseTracker stopped taking care of their customers. People betrayed by XpenseTracker should at least consider this app. Two suggestions: 1. Right now the top page shows a grouping of expenses by day only. It would be more versatile if it allows a section of grouping of expenses by week or by month. 2. Currently, the top page shows each expense converted to US$. The local currency is shown by tapping the black triangle at the lower right corner of each transaction. It would be better if each transaction shows the expense in local currency and tapping the black triangle shows the converted US$. The black line daily total (or weekly or monthly total in the future) shows the total converted to US$ is good as is.
Missing critical functionality
The app is easy to use and very convenient, however, it does not backup and import correctly over devices. When importing a backup, custom categories do not transfer over, and a large number of transactions then sit in ‘uncategorised’. There is also no filter option for ‘uncategorised’ so the only way to find which transactions need recategorisation is to do it manually. Therefore the app is only good on the first device it is used on.
Cities doesn’t work well
I keep track of my spending but the app needs to allow me to add a city later. Today I searched for Rome, Italy and all it came up with was four duplicates of Rome, United States and a completely random city. And I’d like a notes field to remark on a certain expenditure .
Great Easy to Use App!
Thank you for developing such a simple way to track trip expenses and see where the money is going! My only ask would be for the ability to add cities because some places don’t show up in the city search (such as Lyon, France). Highly recommend this app!
Upcoming trip
I’m entering exps for an upcoming trip and the exchange rates are incorrect even tho I have double checked to amount currency and date. WAY OFF. and I’m struggling with choosing a currency even tho I’ve specified the 3 that I need to use. And the currency converter only goes in one direction. From US dollars to another chosen currency. I need to go in the other direction as most travelers do

Have tried several apps before going with TripCoin. It’s free and the interface is pleasant. However, widh there were more color and icons to distinguish categorisation and just generally more depth to the UI. Otherwise it’s good.
Initially great but crashes
I recently downloaded the app. After adding information it crashed and kept crashing until I deleted it. 😖
Good App for now
I like how simple it is to create a trip and add expenses. I would like to see an option for trip dates and put trips in order of dates on the trip page. If the trip has passed move it to the bottom or have a way to mark it complete. I would give 5 stars if these updates were included.

Easy to use with some nice options for displaying stats of your expenses. Only thing I wish they'd change is to simplify the ux. It shouldn't be mandatory to name every expense, if you could hit 'add expense' and were first given an expense category to select, then shown the amount input field it would be much faster to use.
The application is rounding the expenses
Tripcoin is automatically rounding the expenses in Canadian dollars, so the amount is slightly off because of it. Otherwise, the application is great.
Amazing app!
i love this app! i have used it for my last 5-6 trips. I tried to support the creator by buying a virtual coffee for 1.99, but it asked for me to enter my credit card info and i dont feel comfortable doing that on a site i dont know is secure or not. wish there was another way to support the creator financially, like a zelle payment or something like that!
Stopped working
Out of the blue, this app just stopped working! Nothing worked out to launch it, had to delete it and lost all the data. Sweet... will look for something more reliable. Was pretty happy with it until now.

Good, with some flaws
While the app on the whole is easy to use and looks slick, it is annoying that when a different currency is inputed into the system, it's price is updated every day, so that it seems you have paid less or more depending on fluctuating exchange rates. Please make it so that each price is the one-off price based on the exchange rate of that day, not every day from then on.
