What people like
- News is honest and balanced
- Read it anywhere on iPad
- Cheaper than buying paper copies
- Great archive of old articles
What they complain about
- App crashes and needs frequent reinstalling
- Loading times are painfully slow
- Support team ignores your complaints
- Ads pop up too often
Always essential
Balanced. Evidenced. Reliable in a crazy media landscape.
Non Access to e-paper on iPad for last 10 days
No access on iPad since 22/01/26 and no expectation that this will be resolved anytime soon
Ms
Great to have the full paper and to be able to print out the crosswords and articles that I might want to keep. However I cannot print out the bridge - the daily bridge hands are so informative. I would like to print them out and keep them all together. Would it be possible for your team to make that happen?
Updates
Keeps needing to be updated every time in open the app. Very frustrating. Needs me to add a nickname to leave a review but any name I submit is taken??
Good but..
Would be great if it could be set to automatically download an offline version of the latest issue.
Trust
The Irish times is owned by a trust not any private corporation or any individual. Therefore it is allowed to report the news in a truthful way without any interference or influence. A rare case in today’s media landscape.

Diminishing substance
It’s becoming a less substantial paper. For the cohort of people like me (60+) who still buy the actual paper, there are fewer features / stories of interest and the drive to appeal to the 30+ age group is clear. And SO many ads! I’m finding it more & more necessary to buy the Guardian, the FT and / or the Observer in order to stay abreast of what’s going on.
Could do better….
Guys, The epaper to an expat is wonderful but… 1. Formats become stale, repetitive for too many years, stale out of date commentators who need recycling 2. Weekend review is jaded and needs a substantial overhaul 3. The business section is boring, lacks the type of analysis given to say the political section 4. In depth analysis, big read type content is lacking The e paper technology is clunky, crashes regularity with difficulty getting through to get it fixed, get feedback when one complains to prevent reoccurrence. You’re doing a great job but some spring cleaning required as your competition is getting better, your readers more demanding. Mark
App not good
Great newspaper but app on iPad keeps failing after about a week & I have to delete it & reinstall!
Excellent eNewspaper
Excellent articles and up to date relevant information on S daily basis for all age groups
Skips around like a tweaker on meth.
This app cannot remember where you were, after you click back on a story the page will skip back and forth regardless of your previous location. Scrolling causes further jumping around leading to an overwhelming desire to throw your device at the wall. Developer and Irish Times do not respond to support requests. Nul points.
Mr.
Good writing albeit with an obvious left wing bias.
Epaper
Very disappointed. The epaper just won’t load. Have to delete and then download the app every couple of weeks.
Irish Times Technology
The paper technology is a bit weak. Hard to open and sometimes doesn’t. Getting better I think but does not compare with NYT.
Written in English
This is a good broadsheet newspaper, generally written in good understandable English and is well edited.
User experience
Dreadful app. Has to be reloaded regularly. Most days it does not open pages and app has to be deleted and reordered Needs IT. dept to wake up
Comments on Irish Times
It would be useful to have more Northern/Northern Ireland news, not in terms of politics but social, economic and cultural issues ……to counterbalance a Dublincentric focus…. I expect the same could be said for Cork and Galway
Issues with downloading epaper
I love reading the Irish Times but consistently have problems downloading an epaper to my devices. Sometimes upgrading the device software works. Other times I have to delete and reinstall the app. Problem is mainly on iPads.
Irish Times
I have a premium subscription. On my iPad, the e paper will not work quite often. I have to delerte the app, reload the app and start over. John Mckeon

Wonderful newspaper
Fails to download
I’ve been a subscriber for years but over the last few months I’ve had difficulty downloading the newspaper to such an extent that I’ve had to delete the app and reinstall it at least half a dozen times which means I’ve lost older copies i was retaining. Attempts to contact the paper are futile. Here I am , months later, and the issue is still unresolved. Pathetic. It has gotten worse. I’m now deleting the app and reinstalling it daily. I’ll give this another week then will cancel the subscription
Stop the murders
Would be good if there were at least one irish media that did not dwell on murder rape etc
Slooooooooooow
When it loads, it’s great, however can sometimes take an age to load and that’s on 500Mbps fibre broadband, with just me in the house.
Lack of connectivity
I get frustrated at the frequency with which I have to go back to the App Store to reinstall the IT as it refuses to load. It happens just too often. Can I also say that trying to access me IT online from UK and elsewhere is a disaster.
Love the IT
I first read the Irish Times as a schoolboy in Summerhill College in Sligo back in the early 70’s ! Getting it in school at a reduced price was a clever idea ! Enjoy the scope of coverage and editorials plus the opinion pieces Keep up the good work John
Poor peformance
Some days it works most days I just get a spinning wheel! It used work and I looked forward to reading the pape now it is not worth the bother
Tech issue
No problem with the quality of the journalism but, God almighty, please sort out the e-paper app. It stops updating every few days and the only fix is to delete and reinstall which is a pain. Also subscribe to Times, Guardian and Telegraph and this is not a problem with any of those apps. Let’s up our game, guys!
You,as an Irish paper.....
I read the I.T daily. I also read the U.K Guardian paper. Comparing the 2 papers, the input of the Guardian gives a lot more foreign coverage,in depth. Also, there is a Journal, plus a ‘Life & Arts’ pull out, every day. I appreciate that the I.T has an art’s section on. Friday, but only that day. Nowadays,Irish readers are just as interested in European news,as they are with current affairs at home. So,some personal opinions but,I’m sure you take my comments as a random opinion,as overall,d’Times is a plausible ‘institution ‘ & a journalistic product that is highly regarded. Bernard Johnson,Skerries.

Quality of journalism I very good: on line service (in US at least) is poor with frequent requests to log in etc despite continued subscription over two years.
79 years reading the IT
The Irish Times is part of my dna - my father read it every morning and would comment to my mother on the news of the day; and I would go to school and relay what I remembered to my school teacher and friends! Thus a habit of a lifetime was established! I now read the paper on line; and then do the Crosaire crossword - I think I started doing cryptic crosswords before I went to college. For a while I lived in Australia and the UK so no Irish Times nor any newspaper which I trusted to give me a balanced view of what was going on. So now in my 80s I feel confident that ‘my’ newspaper is among the best in the world!
Does not load in 20 mins
The tech is appalling
Frustrating
I am a regular reader of the Irish Times. It is an excellent newspaper. I read it on my iPad Mini and use the epaper version. I find the App frustratingly glitchy - at least once a week the latest edition of the paper will not open and the only workaround is to delete and then re-load the App. I have reported this to the paper on a number if occasions but have never received any response beyond an acknowledgement. I have other newspaper Apps and mist work consistently better than the Irish Times App. Could do better!
Good but...
I really enjoy reading the paper like this as it allows me to skim for exactly what interests me in any given week. I would like the ability to bookmark the articles in this version though. Additionally, something to improve the iconography or labeling on what each view of the paper is would be helpful as I’ve found myself constantly playing whack a mole until I click on the correct view I want each time.
The online paper
I find the online Irish Times far superior to the paper version. The principle benefits are a). Delivered to my bedroom each morning when I awake for a preview before breakfast. b). No more wandering around foreign towns and cities hoping to procure a copy of the Irish Times as it is delivered to my iPad. c). A substantial saving on the cost of the paper version and as I get 3 copies for my subscription my wife can read the paper the same time as I. d). A great back catalogue I can dip into at my leisure when required. e). No more ink stained hands.
Too many ads
As a paying subscriber I very much dislike the way I get a full screen add every four times I flip pages.
Room for improvement
It used to be good, but lately the app is increasingly unreliable. Frequently the newspaper won’t open: there is just a spinning wheel that won’t go away until the app is reinstalled. Separately the practice of bundling (often large) supplements in with the newspaper makes downloading difficult to impossible when WiFi is slow…. but (unlike just about any other ePaper app) it appears beyond the capabilities of the Irish Times guys to allow supplements be downloaded separately.
A bit of sanity each day
Reading the IT has been a daily ritual for over 50 years and each time i open the digital paper or read the hard copy at weekends i continue to be enlightened by considered and well written reporting and column pieces. The IT has become a vital part of my everyday.
Epaper app
Hopeless app since the new makeover, although Irish times claimed the Epaper app had not changed. Invariably after a few days have to either reboot my iPad or reinstall the app. I have the latest iPad software. I previously had to move off my Samsung tablet because of a change in the app. I much preferred the paper edition and was a reluctant subscriber to the digital version when Irish times abandoned the print version in the Uk. My patience is running out.
ePaper download Problem
What’s gone wrong with the ePaper app , I haven’t been able to open the paper for a week or so. Calls to the office have been able to solve the problem other than suggesting it maybe down to my iPhone 7 being too old all of a sudden. Did somebody pull the plug without warning from the Times. Any solution anybody before I cancel my Sub.
Honest truthful newspaper
An excellent daily read with honest news reporting and good variety of topics and opinion writers.
Continues to frustrate
Is anyone else having problems with this app. It failed to auto renew my subscription and when I did it by phone I was told I could get today's edition but this has not proved to be the case. The app won't let me login, keeps returning an error. I feel like I'm in a doom loop and am now in the process of reloading the app to see if that works.
Epaper problems
My issue is with the very poor loading of the Irish Times on to my IPhone and IPad. Invariably any other epaper I subscribe to loads immediately or much more quickly and without the problems I encounter with the Irish Times.
