App Terrible
After years of subscribing to Independent.ie I have had no choice but to cancel as the new app and recent updates keep crashing and drain my battery… Moved on to Irish Times, get it together Independent!!

The new app is clunky & not easy to navigate
New app but restricts reader options
New app but have to outline what county to ‘tailor my news experience’ I don’t want to tailor it. I want national news but no option to not select a county or progress to using the app.
Autoplaying ads with music
Hey, I’m a subscriber. I don’t mind the ads but can you stop embedding ones that autoplay music or take up the whole screen as you scroll so you can’t avoid clicking on and activating them? It’s the free user experience, at a subscriber price - not fair. Thanks.

There is always a good cross section of articles, news and podcasts, I log into this app many times every day and it keeps me up to date with national & world news! Can’t be without it!
Poor accessibility settings
The new version of the app is inaccessible for anyone who needs larger font sizes. The previous version of the app had much better accessibility settings.
Scroll with left hand brings you back to home page - frustrating and bad UX.
Have you tested this app with people who are left handed or those you predominately use their left hand to scroll? The amount of time wasted is so frustrating. Every time I scroll (with my left hand) it brings me back to the home page and then I have to try find where I was. I have started to use my right hand and it doesn’t happen but I want to be able to use my left hand. Pls fix. Otherwise it’s a great app.

Disappointing that you don’t have the quizzes available on the app that are in the newspaper. Also, sometimes when you click on the link to an article within the WA channel, it doesn’t bring you to the article or at most, a portion of the article. All in all, great writing and trustworthy journalism

Left handed issues
The app is in general fine and does what I expect of it. Unfortunately as a left handed person the configuration of the app to return to home page if you touch the left side of the screen is a daily irritant as I keep exiting out of article is am reading when using my left hand to scroll resulting in me having to go back into the piece and find where I was. I wish there was an option to disable this shortcut for those of us who are using the left side of the screen for scrolling

Waste of money
Far too many ads on it and difficult to read articles because it keeps refreshing while you’re reading. Also if reading on a pc you have to enter your username and password every time.

Lately this app
When I am Reading articles lately and touch the screen it goes back to main menu? Why is this happening ? As I scroll it to read it the article goes back to the main page and it’s so annoying; is this just my iPhone or what ? I spend half my time trying to get back to where I was in the article ; please fix

Web access
This has to be one of the worst web sites I have ever used. I have a subscription but can only access on my iPad. I’d recommend trying the Irish Times on line as a better option
Review
The Indo is not the newspaper it used to be. The newspaper is not balanced and fair. It has become a liberal and gossip newspaper. The standard of journalism has fallen at the Indo. I still enjoy it’s sports coverage.
Loved it before they started charging.
I like the Independent but the new charges are just not worth it. I understand that the business is taking a huge hit and they need the revenue but I just don’t see enough people paying these prices.

Very good value and easy to navigate.
Buggy app
In the last month or so there are many bugs in the app. You’re scrolling through and article and it just freezes, or white space appears that you can’t scroll through. It then chucks you out and when you return to the article the same thing happens. Very frustrating and I’m a paying subscriber - though not for long more with these usability problems.

Does The Independent have spell check? Shocking spelling errors in a quarter of all stories. I have also noticed it naming persons who have died and in the next paragraph saying the police are not releasing the name until the family have been contacted. I do like the timely updates from the application.

Can’t get into it every few days. Voices of reason like Kevin Myers are long gone and replaced like Ruth Coppinger woke lunatic types.
Low performing app
Many of the links for non premium articles do not open. This has happened since the most recent redesign.
Slow, simple
Bit slow and too simple but does the job. Ads at the bottom of articles are annoying.
