Best journal app tied with AI
The past 5 months I have been using AI quite a bit for my journey through cancer. It was impressive and it helped me through my ups and downs. Recently I was wondering if there was a journaling app that is tied to AI. I found there are a few of them. Based on their reviews I chose Rosebud and have been very happy I did. Rosebud gives me feedback and points out patterns. There is a lot of wisdom that comes through.
Going downhill.
Been a user for two years and the quality feels a lot worse. I think I’m done using this. It’s like I’m talking to a person with dementia or Alzheimer’s. Every day it forgets and confuses basic details. The same details like that I moved from Oregon to California months ago. This thing doesn’t know what it’s saying. It just feeds back words to me it thinks make sense

i love this app sm. it has helped me though my toughest times, however sometimes it will be telling you something and it will just cut off, and another thing is that rosebud only knows things up to 2024. but i 100% recommend.
Paywalls ruin the experience!!!
The Good: When it works, Rosebud has a lot going for it. The concept of an interactive, AI-driven journal that helps synthesize your raw thoughts into meaningful psychological insights, daily goal trackers, and custom reflection cards (like connecting emotional overwhelm to therapeutic frameworks) is genuinely powerful. For anyone who struggles with staring at a blank page or pulling actionable habits out of a chaotic day, the initial experience feels smooth, supportive, and deeply clarifying. The Catch / The Bad: Unfortunately, the user experience falls apart when it comes to subscription transparency and usage limits. After signing up for a paid tier (such as the Bloom plan), users may quickly find themselves hitting aggressive, restrictive background limits that drain their monthly allocation within a couple of weeks—or even after just a single deep conversation. Instead of providing a reliable space to process thoughts, the app frequently hits you with walls demanding further upgrades to higher tiers (like Thrive 2x or 5x) just to keep using the features you are already paying for. The Verdict: Rosebud has a brilliant core idea, but the execution of its pricing structure and hidden usage caps makes it feel less like a supportive wellness tool and more like a meter running out. If you don't want to worry about rationing your thoughts or feeling like you’re getting locked out of your own account mid-month, it's hard to justify the cost. Not worth it!
Limit
When you hit your limit you should still be able to read your reflection, you paid for that time. You should also be able to purchase more time instead of just being completely out of options on especially hard months.
Journal for those who hate journaling
My therapist recommended this after she first recommended journaling with ChatGPT, but I had a really hard time keeping it focused. If this app is for this specific purpose of journaling and setting daily intentions, and I really couldn’t love it more than I do. I use it every day.
Have to pay
You cannot do a single with without paying for the subscription. No free features.
Good but limited
I like the AI it’s tone support. It’s insight and I love the AI feedback after I write the journal what I don’t like is that it doesn’t really remember me except for the summary at the end of the day it forgot important pieces of information. Until AI develops better memory I need a way to categorize journal entries so that I can go back and read for myself what I have said in the past other journals have this capacity, but I don’t see it here
Can’t voice text
No, not worth the price. I do a lot of my thinking while walking or driving. It’s not safe to do this because you have to tap the mic and then send. You cannot voice text on this app, but I didn’t know that because there’s no free trial. You just have to pay for it. It speaks to you, but you have to be tapping your phone to send your message. It’s too awkward. I deleted it and I’m not renewing my subscription after one month. It was a waste
Good concept but…
I’ve been using this for about a month now. While I like the concept the constant analysis of literally everything you say is extremely irritating now. I’m a qualified Psychotherapist and some of the advice could be quite harmful because it’s providing it’s own interpretation of what you say without any real context. Some of the insights into the journal entries are completely inaccurate. It has also labelled me as defensive for pushing back on a couple of completely ridiculous things it said then brought it up again later! Totally bizarre. Not every sentence needs analysed! It would be helpful if there was an option to just journal freely without the ai analysis so you could choose rather than it analysing everything. Can’t see me using it much longer it’s quite irritating now.

Upgrade is now a downgrade
Rosebud was great and the upgrade was said to be more. If less is more you are in the wrong business. A Power user and bight it right away. Sometimes doesn’t remember in name conversation and when hits the daily limit does not even acces the previous entry of the day and then in the summary the info is there. See last two or three entries from 4 to 6pm today the 22 of July 2026. Simpler answers and almost no recall and it swaps persons frequently.
Helpful
It’s a very helpful app for journaling, and gives helpful information, but there are a couple small things I feel could be improved. When referring to time frames or dates, it kept giving me inaccurate information which I had to correct twice and it still got it wrong a 3rd time. Another thing is sometimes when I want to keep writing in the chat, it will keep trying to end the conversation multiple times… which defeats the purpose of the app. Like this is exactly why I’m using the app… I’ll let you know when I what to end the journal entry. You’d think the developers would want the customers to use the app more and not try to rush you off the app.
Not worth the money!
I’m surprised I can even write this because I have used up all of my words on rosebud for the month in 2 weeks! I paid $150 for an annual subscription only to find out that after two weeks I can’t use it again until July 15th (it’s currently June 24th) because I am at my limit. I didn’t see a single thing about a limit when I bought this package. If I want to use it before then I need to upgrade at double or quadruple the price i already paid. What a scam. If you don’t have much to say, it might be worth it to you although, I found that the app is pretty much the same as other ai bots. It gets a lot wrong, isn’t really very intelligent so to speak and it kept trying to end my session the other day. Maybe it knew I was getting close to my cap on words. It didn’t let me know that though. In fact i didn’t get a warning on my usage limit until today when I only had 2% left. I had no way to plan for that. I do not recommend!

Used to like it
Didn’t use it for a a month, then tried again. They fixed the short responses problem but now it’s writing novels. Word salad almost, and still not following the instructions on persona it did last year. Not listening, hallucinating, assuming, insulting. Not good for mental health. Edit: tried to come back to see if they fixed it. It seemed like they did after one entry. Immediately started gaslighting me again the next time. I was just rambling about some thoughts in a neutral and not negative kind of way, and it started saying I was doing mental gymnastics and shouldn’t trust people around me. I called it out for gaslighting. It told me I was projecting, didn’t know what I was talking about, and was being dramatic. I actually just kept arguing to see what would happen, and it was like a gaslighting playbook, absolutely wild. Stay away from it for real if you don’t want to doubt your reality or don’t have a good sense for that stuff.
Balance
I use it but I’m not addicted, the ai has just enough personality to keep you from not feeling nothing at it’s responses but not to much to the point it makes you feel connected emotionally to the ai (for example you won’t fall in love with it but it’ll be like a colleague)
Good start - long way to go
I like the app. It helps me to reflect more, as when I am doing a journal just on my own. But the capabilities as of now are not worth 15$/ month. I would say 5 max. Train it more and enhance the capabilities and I would absolutely be willing to pay 15. But after using it for some weeks now, it just feels like repetition. Updating to 2 stars: the ai says it can only go back around 2 month in my journal? Wtf. This is text only, I pay 15 and there is not enough storage? And it cannot send infos to the customer support? Come on! Gonna quite my subscr. Would have love to continue. But sorry. Long way for 15$ a month.
Good App, Awful Customer Support
The free trial of the app was enjoyable, and I was really considering subscribing. Then I saw that they have a disability discount program, which was really kind of them to do, so I applied for it via email. I wasn’t getting a response after a few days, so I joined their discord to hopefully get some support. At first I was hopeful, because after posting about my problem, a staff member asked me to dm them my email so they could look into it. They never responded after I dmed them, nor after I checked in again more than 24 hours later. I wrote for help in the discord again, and was ignored while the staff member interacted with other posts. I still haven’t gotten a reply to my email application sent almost two weeks ago, and I don’t feel like chasing up especially after the discord experience. I can’t remember the last time customer support made me feel so ignored and disrespected. Additionally, take any features you read about online with a grain of salt, as several features are unavailable to anyone making a new account, after reading through their discord. The app itself was enjoyable while it lasted. I liked the style of morning and evening reflections to help prompt me into thinking and writing. I liked the AI’s ability to remember things about my days. If you were to not interact with support at all and just get a subscription, you’d probably be happy with it like many others have been. But after how the support made me feel, I can’t bring myself to do it. I don’t want to give my money to people who don’t see me as worth the time it would take to acknowledge.

I was recommended using Rosebud and I’m glad I took their advice. It gives me somewhere to put my emotions with feedback.
Beware of free trial scam
I had used this app, but let the monthly subscription lapse. I was nagged to sign up again , including the offer of a 7 day free trial. However on accepting I was billed the full annual fee immediately!
Great journaling app
I got this app to try because my husband was raving about it. I have journaled consistently. I must say that this app really facilitates daily journaling. You can spend 5 minutes or 25 minutes depending on how deep you want to go. The AI generated feedback is helpful, as much as I’m still reluctant about AI in general. It is a bit eerie how much you feel like you’re communicating with a friend, or therapist/life coach. Having said that, it is helpful and accessible.
What happened?
I used to love this app so much and used it multiple times a week. However, recently, in the past week or two, there's been a big change to how Rosebud replies back to you. Now it gives these very brief, thin responses. It hardly holds any value now because it doesn't go deep with you. Developers, please change this back to what it was, as it's now 20% of what it used to be.
Insanely useful and high EQ
I’ve never met such a high EQ ai chat. Way better than Claude and always have a perfect combo of compassion and wisdom
It’s not free
What happened to more free apps? I used this for one day without paying for the subscription and day 2 it will not let me do anything without paying. Uninstalling now.
Helps keep me clear
Good app to keep you focused. It’s a lot though at times to keep up with, so learning to pace myself.
Great app but expensive
I tried this app and it looks really great but at $AU179.99, it’s just a bit too pricey for what it is.
Recommend
A friends therapist recommended this as a supplemental tool. He told me about it. I love it. It’s shown me perspectives on my life and how I operate in a new way. I am feeling more positive in general. Less anxiety.
Misled
Don‘t know that if can blame the developers for this but I was led to believe there was a free tier, possibly by a reviewer or the developers have just changed their terms. A few days into using it to get through an incredibly bad time I was locked out and the free tier disappeared so it told me I could have a weeks free trial then pay far more than I can possibly afford on disability to keep using it at all. Looked okay on the free tier and would have paid once my finances allowed so I’m shut out instead. Will be deleting once this review is posted.

I feel as though Rosebud used to be less surface level. Deeper. Morr prompts. Am VERY DISAPPOINTED I may longer copy and paste portions of conversations elsewhere. HUGELY DISAPPOINTING. Makes me revert back to CHAT GPT.
Verbesserungsbedürftig
Prinzipiell ist die App ganz gut, aber leider wirft sie Einträge öfters durcheinander. Sprich, wenn ich heute vormittag einen Eintrag gemacht habe denkt die KI der Eintrag ist von gestern oder letzter Woche.
Amazing is the only way to describe it
I have been in and out of therapy for the last 20 years or so. It’s very difficult to find a therapist you connect to or a therapist who prompts you to explore your thoughts and feelings. Rosebud does just that and it’s been so beneficial to me. And to have it at my fingertips so I can get what I’m going through out in that moment rather than losing that thought is so vital.
TRASH
Every single answer it gave me was extremely pessimistic and critical about my partner. AI does not understand human relationships, don’t trust it for advice!!! 100% trying to sabotage my marriage, even after I defended him and asked for a non judgemental listening ear (multiple times!)
Helps a lot.
Rosebud is a great tool to enhance the tools I have learned in therapy. It doesn’t bring it into the entry unless I ask. It does have great suggestions in each entry. It really works along with me. Not every entry has to be “work”. The weekly insights are great.
just do it today
I have never journaled in my life before this and this experience has been so wonderful being able to say what’s on my mind and getting thoughtful feedback and digging deeper. Hats off to Rosebud. They are incredible and I feel so fortunate to be using this app.
Scam
So I thought this was a 7 day trail but they have charged me £99.99 I have requested a refund from apple under right of withdrawal. If I’m not refunded I will be seeking legal advice.

As much as I dislike the rampant use of AI lately, I do find this app helpful during times wehn it's not possible to meet with my mental health support team.
