actually a good app
i really don’t get all the negative reviews on this app, i wish i had this app on my recent weekends away across the UK, the hidden gems are actually really good and the car parking spots are super useful! would reccomend this app to any young couples who love adventuring and weekends away - me and my boyfriend love it!
Deceptive
Requires paid subscription to see so called ‘gems’. There are 100 ‘gems’ offered as a trial, but the details given of these are very generic and google maps offers much better levels of detail using the search term ‘somewhere interesting near me’ Would be better if it were ad powered rather than a subscription model. Pity as a good idea ruined by greed.

The concept is great. I downloaded the app in preparation for my London trip next month but I get an error notification every time I try to subscribe to see the rest of the gem locations. Otherwise I really like the apps concept.

Not enough places
I subscribed and will leave it for a few months see how many new are added .. right now it’s really low … it’s a great idea and want to be supportive but right now it’s not worth the money sadly .. surely allowing people to submit places would help Regardless if they don’t add a filter to switch off airbnbs or whatever they are I’m cancelling anyway . Bought the app for interesting places not to book someone’s house 🤯

Love the app, would be nice to add missing locations or at least submit them for review as I visit many structures that are not listed in the app.

Seems like a great app and very convenient to have it in one place but you can only access 100 walks unless you subscribe. I understand 3.99 a month isn’t extortionate but it just seems unnecessary. I deleted the app as soon as I realised we only have 100 walks. Reading the reviews, many people say the same. I wonder if there is a way for you guys to get around this subscription as I feel there would be many more frequent users, if so.
Used to be great
This app used to be great but now all that comes up for me is about 4 hidden gems and all the rest are either parking spots or hotels when there used to be hundreds of hidden gems and I’m not sure why I am still paying a subscription but no longer really getting anything out of it.

It was good and found some amazing places with it but the app keeps crashing have paid for the subscription but app keeps crashing now
Great instagram
Follow on insta great great content. Great site. When I saw they had an app I loaded it straight away. Then when asked for £39.99 a year deleted it straight away. I get they say it’s a price of a coffee. We make tv shows and took all our content of off Amazon prime as people didn’t like the subscription price so moved it all onto YouTube. Now make more money than ever from adds. Maybe they should give out app for free triple their subs and get sponsors. Such a shame as all the bad stars are about the cost of the app. When they have such a great product. And like people are saying all the info is free on instagram. Good luck guys still gave you 5 stars as you guys are awesome.
Not worth it
Used this as a week away map is not good and really just didn’t like it as everything could be found for free
Room for improvement
The app is fairly well organised and has plenty of interesting locations but that’s all you get I couldn’t justify the £30 per year subscription fee or the £3.99 (£47.88 per year) alternative they recommend. A few improvements however would make this app really useful say information on parking locations and up to date prices for these, motorcycle parking monitored/unmonitored, I don’t drive electric but if there are charging locations for the leccy guys. Length of the walks/hikes types of trail if there are any buggy or disabled friendly routes, if push bikes are allowed. Toilet availability/baby change Cafés/pubs in neighbouring villages or along the trail. You could even advertise these in the app say they pay you some sort of advertising fee then you definitely could charge less for the app. Just my two pence I’m sure there’s loads more you could do forget all that badge crap a tick sheet for places you’ve been would be helpful without the kid aesthetics. Hope you find this review helpful added my recommendations instead of just complaining about the price.

I came across the ads online and decided to give the app a try. I downloaded it and even paid for the subscription, but to be honest, it didn’t live up to the expectations set by the advertising. There aren’t enough places listed, especially in the Midlands, and most locations only have a single image, which isn’t very helpful. It feels like the app is still missing a lot of the “gems” it promises. In comparison, I’ve found Atlas Obscura (a free app) to offer a much wider range of interesting places to explore. Sadly, I’ve had to cancel my subscription for now. I hope future updates bring more content and improvements—there’s potential here, but it needs more work.

Empty map
There’s just hardly any hikes on the map peak district is empty
Over priced
Ordinance survey are £10 cheaper for their subscription as has complete maps of the uk with all these sights plus far more information no sure how they justified nearly £40.
See All Locations
It would be useful if on the map we could see all locations including the paid ones but no information about details made available to them. At the moment my travel location shows no hidden gems in the area as a free user.

Most aren’t hidden, a lot aren’t gems either
Most of the POI aren’t hidden, for instance Derwent Water and Blencathra. Whilst there may be some special places most are the tourist traps the apps blurb says this will help you avoid. Nice idea, poor content
Won’t let me subscribe
I’d like to rate this app higher. I’m sure it has some great features but it won’t let me subscribe and won’t let me use it without subscribing.
Good app but a few more features needed
I like the app and have paid for a subscriptions (not sure how long I’ll keep it but is good for inspo). The main thing missing is the ability to put your bucket list on a map. I want to plan trips so it would be good to see where the items I’ve saved are so I can choose trip locations accordingly. Some more detail on the items would also be very useful. You have a disability badge on some of your listings but there are some listings that I know to be accessible from my own experience that you have not marked. Additionally, it would be really good to see an accessibility score rather than just a yes or no. Not all disabled people are wheelchair users. Some of us may be fine to walk on uneven surfaces but are limited on how far/steep we can travel. It would be good to know at a glance if a gem was at the end of a hike or a five minute walk away from a car park.
A gem in itself
Handy app for finding new places to explore. I have already ticked a couple of new places off my list.
Takes your money and now not working
Paid for the app on Friday and used it for the day . Very disappointed to what it offers. Seems to be a glorified carpark finder. Sunday went to use the app and now it does not work. !!!! Cannot load it.
No ‘hidden’ gems….
Nothing I clicked on, after paying the sub to unlock the lot was new or surprising and there’s a lot of stuff missing! Things you might otherwise expect to find that I would call hidden gems… castles or building of interest that aren’t mapped or in the public domain ie. In private ownership but visitable non the less. Don’t waste your money. Google an area and you’ll likely find what’s on the map in just as much time.
Subscription
So I have been with UK hidden gems for over a year (subscriber on the website) but appears I can’t login on my account on the app without starting a new subscription, any help would be appreciated.
Stunning Brilliant App
This app is everything a traveller needs for the UK. A quick easy sign up gives you enough places to visit for years!!! Ignore the snowflakes giving it a 1* review. They are just lazy. Moaning about re subscribing…. All you need to do if you are already part of the Hidden Gems community is to subscribe in the app and then just cancel ur old subscription. No big shakes!!! Takes a couple of minutes… Thanks UK Hidden Gems!!!

I think this app is a lovely idea, I downloaded to have everything in one place. But most of the information is already available on their instagram, I will just save their posts to a folder and use that. I agree £3.99/month isn't crazy but considering they give it away free on instagram it seems silly to spend the money - I would subscribe for £1/month but not more.

Its perfect for finding somewhere special to go and explore. Already have plenty of gems bookmarked!
Warning - App free, but subscription needed.
Nice idea, but I can get the same by researching things on Google for free. The fact that this involves a monthly or yearly subscription should be made clear to save downloading the app and finding out the first time you open it. Yes you get a few free ideas the first time, but given that the majority of these involve a trek of 100 miles or more, they’re not actually much use to me on a daily basis. Okay for some, but not for me I’m afraid.

Would consider paying if it was like half the price, £12 maybe, £1 a month wouldn’t get noticed.

Genius idea 💡 from these guys! It’s exactly what I wanted ! I love their instagram account & have been following them for a while. cheap monthly subscription but not worth it tbh. i’ve seen more “hidden gems” myself than i have with this app.
Nice idea, but overpriced
I like the idea and presentation of the app having seen clips on Instagram. But I can’t understand the £30 a year subscription valuation at all. There are no extra details about each place (where to park, tips, walks, history etc), pretty much just a photo and a link for Apple Maps. For reference that is more than the cost of the feature packed OS Maps app. I deleted the app after an hour. Personally I would only consider subscribing if there was a large amount more detail on each location, or if the price was about £10 per year.

App keeps crashing! Please update as I’ve paid for it
App keeps crashing on my iPhone 16 Pro with latest iOS. Half way to my destination and now can’t get directions.
Needs updated
A lot of these routes and so called hidden gems are available for free in other apps not to mention this app needs updated as there’s routes that have been closed off for safety reasons and have not reopened.
