Satisfied new user
I’ve only have had it a week but I’m very impressed with so far. It really has personalized the lessons for my abilities and subject matters I want to improve upon. The speech recognition has almost been flawless.
App overhaul makes this useless
I’ve been using the app since it was in the dev stages. I’ve seen it go from getting better to being completely unusable. The new “overhaul” makes this app unbearable. I miss the AI tutors and phone conversations for variety’s sake. The new version has one tutor who doesn’t understand anything and often switches to a stilted and painfully incomprehensible American accent in Portuguese and Spanish sessions. It also erased all of my vocabulary I’d been saving and treats me like a beginner when I’m C1 in Spanish and B2 in Portuguese. What a sad waste of what was once a good app. TL;DR You’re better off with other apps.
Very Good App with a Little Work Still Needed
I have just started using this app, to keep up Italian conversational skills. It is very good indeed. The comments and advice it gives after each conversation are helpful. However, the corrections are occasionally incorrect. There are also a few technical glitches: the app does not always catch what you say correctly, and a bug in one of the lesson exercises makes it impossible to complete a perfect lesson. It is still a very good app though, and will be excellent when the glitches are fixed.
Annoying
This app annoyed me to the point I quit. For one thing, they don’t understand half of what you are saying regardless of how well you enunciate. The other is that they grade you after each conversation which can vary wildly from a super condescending PRE-A1 to a more appropriate B1. But you never know. And then when you unsubscribe, you get a nasty little Email about there must be insufficient funds in your bank account and they’re going to keep trying…” Non! J’ai FINI!
What the…
I bought the lifetime subscription for $99 (turned in to $160) but whatever. I had a long drive ahead of me so I thought I’d spend it learning only to have it shut down after 20 minutes because I am out of daily tokens? What nonsense is this?
Great learning app
Love the structure and progression. The way that it integrates grammar into the chats and gives follow up grammar exercises is awesome.
Ripoff - Caveat Emptor
I’ve had this application for less than two months and it has several issues. The app is a bit glitchy in terms of creating content in English and Spanish. I decided to start using the Langa feature to chat with the AI chat bot to discuss topics that I found interesting and helpful in learning Spanish for business purposes. I noticed as of today this app is now throttling the Chatbot usage claiming that there are “tokens” for use. Interesting. I paid $80 for a one-year subscription for this company to change the rules and make it up as they go? There are a lot of better options out there. I have tried many of them. Don’t waste your time on this one - a glitchy ripoff.

Frustrating
While this app has some potential, I am finding it so frustrating that I am not sure I want to continue after the free trial. When I answer a question it’s way too harsh and judgy. For example it asked me a very specific question, it told me to say my name and say where you are from in Spanish, my response was Me llamo Kat, soy de Los Estados Unidos, it tells me not quite because I didn’t tell my age, it didn’t ask me to say how old I am, it also said I need to capitalize The United States, I wasn’t writing it, I was speaking so why would I get dinged for that? And then one question it completely said I was wrong when I definitely was not wrong
Useful but annoying
So far, I’ve mostly been using the lessons, and they’re frustrating in several ways. It’s not always clear what kind of answer is expected - a simple phrase, a longer phrase, an explanation? Questions sometimes refer to pictures that are missing. Hints are useful if you’re stuck for an answer, but then the AI will tell you your answer is bad. And more irritations, which I am learning to be more chill about. Despite that, it’s very useful for practicing speaking, and the lessons are useful. I just wish the developers would actually use their own app and find/fix the problems.
Best language app I’ve ever found.
This is the only app I’ve found to actually bridge that gap between rote memorization of verbs and conversational Spanish.
Terrible Experience All Around
First, I could barely get it to talk to me in the language I was learning, it kept talking English. Second, when I finally asked it to speak Spanish it used an American accent. Third. The subscription cancellation is convoluted and took several minutes to figure out including being redirected to a third party.
1 critical feature missing but good overall
It’s missing a feature that most language apps have, and that is being hands-free while conversing. Just have it automatically start capturing voice when we are in handsfree mode. Very handy when practicing a language while cooking, doing laundry, or on the drive to work. That way we don’t have to take our eyes and hands off the main task, and is less frustrating.

Intuitive
Easy to use and understand. It is a very robust program -and has multiple ways to interact with the AI. If you don’t understand a word, or phrase, it has a translate feature by either clicking the word-or translate icon.
New release is terrible
I’m leaving LangoTalk after 2 years. Yet again, an unannounced release change that blindsided me and loses much of the AI conversation functionality. Not the first time so adios.
Much better now.
When I first got this app in January it was good, but the AI speaker was just too difficult to understand for a beginner or intermediate. Now though that’s been sorted and having the beginner setting on actually means the level is just about comprehensible. There’s still a way to go to get these apps as good as a real tutor but they are close. Really enjoy having this app to practice my speaking.
Starts out WAY too hard
I’m cancelling in first day of my trial subscription because the program starts out way too hard, even for a moderately experienced beginner. Almost worse, it was shamefully difficult to cancel my trial membership. I had to cancel by email. Here’s the email I sent. —————- I want to cancel my subscription immediately, even though this the first day of my trial. I’ve been doing Duolingo for two hundred days and needed more conversational practice. Right away, the exercises were way too hard. WAY too hard! I was shell-shocked immediately with words I didn’t know and sentences that were way too complex. It’s hard to learn when you’re demoralized right out of the gate. And to makes things even worse, there was no easy or intuitive way to cancel my trial subscription! I looked everywhere in the app — NOTHING. I looked everywhere on the website — NOTHING. I had to go back to the welcome email to find out how to cancel service??? And I have to send an E-MAIL to do it??? Why couldn’t I do it with a couple clicks — especially when I was in a trial membership? It was super-easy to sign up and commit, but you’re going to make me jump through hoops to cancel??? This reeks of predatory business tactics. Cancel my trial subscription and credit card payment immediately.
Needs some work
The price is decent but the app is mediocre. Not all options are available for all languages. It’s really slow over cellular, even 5G but works fairly well on WiFi. Phone chat needs to be available for all languages and the app needs to be CarPlay compatible.

Horrible app
This app, just starts saying things that you’ve never heard before in paragraph form. Your first session will have you wondering what each of 40 words mean and it is painfully slow to click on each word. If you ask the ‘ai’ for help or say you don’t understand it just repeats the same foreign response that you still don’t understand to you. This is not a learning app, it’s for people who already know the language and want to practice
Just deal with the audio bugs
I love this app. I use it on both iPhone and Android. Both have the same audio issue where the first flash card in a deck doesn’t have audio. Also, when tapping on a word, I used to be able to hear how that single word sounds, but that stopped - now I just need to use another app to type in the word so I can perfect how I say it. I’m super addicted to learning languages, and this definitely helps more than just speaking with ChatGPT, despite the bugs with audio and random AI output weirdness. Thanks for making it!
AI is not ready for prime time.
Even though I am at a strong intermediate level in Spanish and have worked with many live native speaking tutors over the years who consistently say my pronunciation is good, I started with the absolute beginner program just to get a feel for it. The AI could not understand the most basic input and corrected me on such basics as "buenas tardes" and "como." Other AI apps understand me. 2 stars because the interface and conversations are better than some more expensive programs.
Great but has issues
I really like this app for learning Greek but there are many problems. Often. The grammar is wrong and the grading is inaccurate. I have lost some confidence in it lately. I wish they'd correct these issues.
Wonderful developments
I tried other AI chat tools from big brands and this tiny but mighty app hits way above its weight class. The chat partners not only understand context, it gives you tips and hints on how to respond if you get stuck. It strikes a fine balance between open ended conversation and narrowing the path to make learning easier. The voices are a little robotic but it’s a small complaint to how much value it gives.
Ummm what????
I started the first lesson but right off the bat it called me the wrong name so I was like ok I’ll just put my full name as my username instead (I’d originally used a nickname bc it’s shorter) but then when I tried to go back to the lesson it said that it was locked and I needed to buy the subscription in order to be able to do it. The whole reason I didn’t start the subscription in the first place is because I wanted to test it out and see if it’d actually be helpful. I don’t like spending money on useless things so I just wanted to try the free version first and now apparently I can’t even use the app unless I get the subscription. This app sucks.
It’s a good app, just watch for errors
This app has amazing potential, but for now it makes errors like any other AI. I find it difficult to know if all its feedback is accurate.
Chinese lessons - AI speaks too fast for a beginner!
WAY Too fast! Literally too fast for a beginner. And yes, I have it set on beginner mode. Also, needs a tutorial on how to use app. I started lessons and it presented me with “review” lessons for words I hadn’t even learned yet. Slow down the pronunciation! I am on a trial now so I hope this can be bettered because I would like for this to work out. Maybe I will also try the Spanish since I know more of that language and see if the issues are the same there. If so, this may not work out. I would love to change my star rating AND review to better. Please help!

I’ve tried AI things like this before. Being around A2-B1 in German, right off the bat it started giving me Italian and French phrases mixed in with the German words. If I were new to German, I would’ve never known.
Not bad
The character for “wa” in konnichiwa appears wrong I think? It shows the character for “ha” instead but that’s the only thing I’ve noticed so far with what I know. Unless I’m wrong lol idk
Chat bots not working
The daily chat bots have not worked since I bought this app. Very frustrating and disappointing.
Gamification and ratings
I have a subscription for Langotalk and have used it for a few months. The speech recognition works well, and it is faster than other AI apps I’ve used. Another strength is that it is a great listening partner. It asks good questions and shocks me with the sophistication of its summaries back of what I said, along with a relevant follow-up question. Unfortunately, it can only ask you questions, not have a conversational exchange, which falls flat. I have two complaints: 1. At the end of each chat, it gives you an evaluation of your level. Mine has varied from A1 to C1 across 20 chats. It’s not only inaccurate, it’s demotivating. 2. It has all the gamification sounds and “streaks” of Duolingo, which, as a serious learner, I don’t need and hate.
What did you do?!
This was such a great app then you changed the best thing about it, the conversations. The new stuff with music and roleplay and the app blathering is not an improvements. Please go back to the previous version

Very impressive AI
I am using this for the Arabic language. It’s excellent for improving my speaking and picking up on mistakes that native speakers usually bypass however I noticed two issues: 1. The app only uses formal Arabic (MSA) rather than 3amiyya which may not meet everyone’s learning requirements 2. The AI partner makes frequent grammatical mistakes, sometimes referring to the 3rd person when it intends to mean the 2nd person. If #2 in particular is fixed this app will be perfect for language learners.

They make it difficult to cancel by providing no information and requiring you to have the subscription email of all things
Good app but no way to get support
This is a fun app until you need help, have a question, find an error, etc. There is no support option. I'm still on the free week trial and I won't buy it if there is no support/contact us or help options. It's an expensive app so without help, nope. Also, not ending a phrase with a ? Or !, should not be marked an error. It's Lango-talk, not Lango-write.

I don’t often write app reviews, but Langotalk is so impressive after using it for a couple of days that I feel compelled to come here. I’m someone not really getting much out of Duolingo anymore but am still only charitably in the early-intermediate phase with Swedish, and my language courses at school are paused for the summer. I was looking for something where I could continue practice speaking and grammar, and the app over-delivers. The potentially open-ended conversations, the near-instant feedback on each thing I’ve said, and the way I’m invited into less open-ended lessons around the things I need to work on are all amazing. Today I could even write into a prompt that I would simply like more practice wish more advanced but still common Swedish verbs, and a customized and perfectly on-point lesson plan and multimodal flash cards were generated. I think back to how much time spent in other language classes painstakingly building flash cards and generating my own study materials and I can’t believe how effortless this is and how much better of a result it produces. Also the app is well-polished with graceful animations, an understandable layout, and in general it feels like it was crafted by developers who know and care about the iOS platform. I’m going to be using this all summer and expect it will do almost as much for me as my usual coursework and class time. It’s wild to have a personalized and patient robot tutor.
Warning: Complete Trash
I went through the evaluation process and noticed a few issues but figured it’s a new app so they’re working out bugs. But it got worse. Completely incorrect translations with no fix. Questions in the wrong language or answers choices in the wrong language. Full page glitches showing only app code. “AI” asking me to give more complete answers to simple yes or no questions. Constantly expecting me to know far more advanced vocabulary and at no point really teaching me any vocabulary. And just plain glitching out not letting me continue in the “lessons”. No actual lessons found just asking me to magically speak and understand. Been working with Duolingo for over a year and was hoping for better conversation options. This just tries to be Duolingo and fails.
Speaking confidence
I’m on a one week free trial. Was loving it until I got someone else’s conversation in the middle of mine! Took a screenshot. Mad. Development might want to see it. Important to keep microphone clear otherwise bots won’t hear what you are saying correctly. Very safe way to practice speaking. An essential missing link in language learning. 300 days on DuoLingo but probably will subscribe here for one month. - On iPad I am unable to expand it to see what I have said. Awkward. This could be a dealbreaker for me. I use landscape format exclusively and type on keyboard in this format.
Needs Improvement
Used for just a few minutes and saw very rudimentary errors in the AI suggestions for Spanish… LLMs often struggle to detect common errors, so some work is needed on the prompt engineering to make this tool useful.
I like the app but so far very buggy
I recently have come across the issue of when I use the microphone to answer the questions in the chat it just fills in this phrase “thanks to all the students and people who helped me write this video” in Swedish. I have no clue why that’s happening as I’m saying very different sentences each time and it writes that almost every single time. It also keeps asking me to use the work for book in a sentence over and over again and I have to ask it to switch topics. I really like this app otherwise though so hope it gets fixed soon, especially the speech to text issue😅

Pointless app
This was a big waste of money. I have a Linguistics degree and have been learning languages for well over 13 years so I love trying new apps and methods. I paid for this app to work on my 7th language and it was the biggest waste of money. 1) even if the level is set to “Beginner” they try to force advanced conversations and topics which is not useful for a beginner at all. 2) the conversations are bland and inauthentic. 3) the “learning” feature is ineffective and honestly doesn’t make sense nor is it conducive to learning. 4) if you’re gonna just rely on AI to learn a language (which you shouldn’t) you would do better with the free version of chatgpt. 5) it’ll tell you that your conversation skills are at “X” level… which is completely false every single time. 6) this app was clearly NOT created by anyone who knows anything about language learning or education in general.
Pleasantly surprised!
Currently learning Japanese (preparing to meet my partner’s family for a long-awaited visit!) and wanted something that would ‘force’ me into using spoken language as I tend to be a good grammar student but nervous speaker. This is great at promoting me to have basic conversations and identify where I have gaps in knowledge to tighten up on. The topics are numerous and the conversations very natural-feeling to explore. They also have more than one dialogue on a specific topic, which is great. My partner has vouched that actually the corrections it makes are very reasonable and the bots’ spoken language is largely very accurate, which is a big difference from some of the other AI language apps (at least for Japanese). That being said, I do have a few small criticisms which hopefully the app will iron out. First of all, sometimes (infrequently) the feedback is unjustified, such as saying the wrong kanji was used — when speaking out loud, I can’t possibly choose which kanji the app chose as there are many which make the same sound. You can edit after the fact, I will note, but this can be tedious, especially I imagine if you are a beginner and don’t use a Japanese keyboard. I also get consistently flagged for my pauses. My most common feedback is “Your Japanese is correct but consider using punctuation.” I have taken what I feel are natural and sometimes even quite long pauses between sentences! So again, I have to tediously correct the messages. These things alone are quite annoying but doubly so when overall they mark you down for it! One feature I am on the fence about is the lesson suggestions. Sometimes they are excellent and genuinely have found a gap in knowledge. Other times they are… misguided and unhelpful? For example, I mentioned a specific district in Tokyo and the app decided the kanji was wrong (see above!) so it recommended me a lesson on Tokyo districts. I knew all of the places it ‘taught’ me and the lesson was literally just reading the place names. You have to complete the same thing 3 times to clear it or it just sits there, clogging up your lesson feed. Now take this scenario and repeat it many many times on numerous unneeded topics and it becomes a bit irritating. As a feature, I think it has potential, but the lessons just aren’t as interesting or helpful as they could be at the moment. In any case, overall this app has pleasantly surprised me! My feedback might sound a little bit negative but I just want to be transparent, especially as the app does have a subscription fee which is a bit on the expensive side! I did decide to pay for a year which I hope shows that there is real value in this as a learning resource.
Stingy
How do you expect to use this app? It's frustrating how the app constantly pressures you to make purchases. You cannot progress at all or have any access to any of the content beyond a certain point as it is impossible without buying. Clearly indicates the developers prioritize making money over user experience. That's why these kind of apps struggle to compete with the top ones. Really disappointed as I was looking forward to learning with it. The company spends so much money on false advertising but does not allow free users to benefit from any part of it.
Free users barely get anything
The app does what it says it will do, but as someone who has tried many language apps, i don’t think I could move onto it fully as a free user. 5 messages a day for free users is not nearly enough to get a feel for the app and it’s intricacies in order to go on and pay for premium. By the time you get into the conversation, you have to stop and start again the next day.
