Email kerfluffle
Now 1 star. Ugh. Two things about the app that are frustrating right now I’m hoping they can fix them both! The first - if you sign up on their Instagram ad with one email, and it’s not the email in your credit card account, then the system has a problem letting you into the iOS app. The second (which is arguably a more serious problem) is if you have completed some lessons and then log out and log back in… the system does NOT remember the lessons you completed to that point. But wait - it gets worse. Never heard back about the “missing progress” info, so I decided to cancel. I thought it canceled properly and we get a refund Such a day or so I asked where the refund was. I mean, it seems only fair: if you’re billing me at the start of a trial, when I cancel I want the money back. So out of curiosity I wanted to see what the status was, and I assume after they confirmed my account information. They said if you canceled within 7 days, you should receive a credit in 3 to 5 days. It depends on your card/bank. But for some reason, I had a bad feeling about this, because I realized after they should be able to see the date I canceled. So I googled how to request a refund from these folks. Turns out it’s a separate page and login method to request a refund for the charge on your trial. I’m not gonna say it’s deceptive but the website where I first canceled really looked like I had canceled everything, but apparently that only canceled the renewal.
Nihongo
I’m enjoying speaking
Buggy
I’m using Jumpspeak to brush up my Japanese for an upcoming trip. My pronunciation is good yet the app misses words and tells me I said things I never said, then it “corrects” me with nonsensical feedback. The role play is bizarre, asking and answering questions in the wrong sequence. I’m using it but it’s weird and annoying.
Don’t believe the hype
I purchased this because it claimed to be better than Duolingo. The pace is slow and you can’t progress at your own speed. Also the AI Bots are snarky.
Just started, but…
I just started using Jumpspeak, but so far I am impressed. It seems better than other apps I have tried. Can’t wait to see how far I can go.
Do not get this app
This app is not good for learning any language. They don’t teach you the fundamentals. They just jump you straight into conversations with words that you never heard before, they don’t define those words, and that you have no idea how to pronounce. I regret purchasing the app and wish I could get a refund.
App is a scam
They claim to have a 100 day free trial but if you try to cancel they say the trial period is only 30 days. Then they will continue to bill your credit card after you cancel for future subscriptions. I wish I’d read trustpilot reviews before signing up to save myself the headache. Stay away. Update after developer response: I contacted support and asked them to a refund. After several days of delays, I was met with responses that did not address my questions or concerns. The responses either came from bots or from agents who did not read English very well. Either way, none of my concerns were addressed. I asked my credit card for a chargeback.
Pros and cons
I liked several things about Jumpspeak. It encourages you to actually speak, and the conversations felt much more like real-world situations than the disconnected vocabulary drills or unnatural practice sentences found in some language apps. Unfortunately, the speech recognition became frustrating enough that I decided to cancel. The app often seemed to assess my pronunciation before I had finished speaking, or it would cut me off and then tell me I had not completed the word or phrase. That made practicing feel discouraging rather than helpful. I was also disappointed with the cancellation experience. It was not easy to find a clear path to cancel, and I repeatedly ended up being directed between different pages. I eventually managed to cancel, but one of my refund requests was denied because I was just outside the 30-day refund period. They did honor the separate $69 refund that was covered by their 100-day guarantee, which I appreciate. Given how easy it is for a free trial to convert to a paid subscription, I also think a reminder shortly before the trial ends would be a courteous feature, particularly when the cancellation process itself is not especially straightforward. There are genuinely good ideas behind Jumpspeak, especially the emphasis on speaking and practical conversation, but the technical frustrations and cancellation experience outweighed the positives for me.
Refused a Refund
Im not impressed with the customer service. I struggled to find a way to contact someone to be provide my refund. I only ever had one communication from Jump Speak and that was from Last August. All of a sudden I am short £45 after a year. I had not way of accessing the app as it will no longer download on my phone. Trying to make contact was a nightmare and when they finally responded, it was more than outside of the 24 hour period so absolutely not impressed by the level of support received. However I am learning that in this climate the best way to get help is thru leaving a review because before this, it’s impossible to connect with someone. I was able to speak with Hannah and she was very helpful in resolving the issue in making sure to offer a goodwill gesture which is decent considering the circumstances. Thank you
Great supplement!
Jumpspeak is a great enhancement to my traditional learning course. It gives me more opportunities to create spoken sentences on my own.
Unusable
The voice recognition simply does not work. The app is unusable. Requesting a refund.
Amazing
Jumpspeak and the AI conversations is fun and makes practicing feel natural. I especially like being able to hear the pronunciation and ask questions about words. The only thing I’d love to see is a full Vietnamese course instead of just AI conversations. I think it’d be a great addition, great app overall!
Potential
Given that it requires a substantial payment to use the app, I really expected a higher quality of intelligence and voice recognition. Conversations go all over the place with the AI not being able to represent two persons in conversation with each other, at the same time as not staying consistent in theme of conversation (for example in a conversation about where to find a key, I was prompted to talk about how long I enjoy my coffee for). Voice recognition is sub-par, and correct answers are not recognised, which again is disappointing for an app that takes money. Otherwise a good way to learn words “in their place” in daily conversation.
Orta
Some aspects are excellent - the focus on speaking sentences, the lack of childish supposed incentives and the feedback on errors made. The downside is that the content is very Westernised and has no relation to the culture of the language being learned. Proofreading of content is poor in places. A key downside is that all the content is random topics with no attempt to build in familiarity with key grammatical patterns - so I’m disappointed.
Fun
Easy to l learn with this way.
Scam
Paid an annual subscription for my kid and not able to use it after a few months. It says subscribe even though we are logged in.
Speaking
Sometimes trying to pronounce words that I feel is good enough but the app does not accept my pronunciation and I have to give up and press the forward arrow
Getting worse and worse
The changes that you keep making are degrading the experience. The dialogues are so laggy that exercises take forever now, the voices are truly awful sounding (in Spanish), role plays give you objectives but don’t allow you to achieve them. I paid for a lifetime subscription because I really liked Jumpspeak at the beginning, but whatever you are doing is making this app unusable for me.
Bait and pay
The AI is inconsistent and often gives poor choices or duplicates choices. The verbal recognition misses easy sounding words which can be frustrating. Worse - after paying $75 for unlimited access you have to pay additional fees after completing the basic level.
Jumpspeak beginner
I’m really enjoying the lessons. They’re broken down into intros, vocabulary, listening, speaking, and asking my own phrases. I’m making progress..
Poor Customer Service
They make it extremely difficult to get in touch with their customer support.
a bit difficult to follow instructions
small type
Pure Frustration
It does not recognize my voice half the time. The audio will often cut out with a whump sound and when they ask me to translate a long sentence by selecting words I rarely get it right. Lots of trial and error with no guidance.
Slow response time
App has a very slow response time it also cannot hear or recognize my voice. I have to speak several times before it hears me. Also if keeps “falling asleep” when I’m using the app. I have to keep tapping it.
Great way to learn and get better
I’m already a decent Spanish speaker so I needed something pretty advanced where I could practice regularly and keep learning vocabulary. This app focuses more on real communication that you have to do while traveling and I find that super helpful. Way better than Duolingo for me.
Chinese lessons don’t explain what went wrong
I was trying to go through Chinese lessons and it just didn’t pick up some times. The ai seems to be ok with native speakers, but that’s not the point of a language teaching app. It doesn’t even provide the pinyin when you try to dig in. And since new beginners don’t know how to surface a character, it’s very difficult to ask the tutor. If you’re here for Chinese, save your money.
Hidden price
Not happy about the unknown additional fees to get the premium AI. No where did you disclose that you needed to pay more to get AI. That is like the main reason most people want to try this app 😏
JUMPSPEAK IS A SCAM
This app is one of the worst ever created. If you’re unfortunate enough to lend them your financial information, then you will have no choice but to cancel your card, otherwise you’ll be charged hundreds of dollars without recourse. Part of the ruse has to do with subscribing either through the app or the website. If you go directly through the website, you might have a chance to avoid being cheated, since there’s no third party for these criminals to hide behind. If you go through the app, they’ll refer you to a robot that plays dumb and it will be impossible to be treated fairly, since they can just blame the third party and refuse responsibility for their crimes. This absolute scam is part of a wave of criminal behavior within the online world where they will bait well meaning people to giving them money via a third party and then leave them with nothing. I have even met one of these people at a foot massage place in Southeast Asia and was taken aback at how shameless he was about these businesses practices; it was even creepier since he was rubbing his hands together the entire time he was speaking jovially about how the third party subscription trick made them enough money to refund all the website subscribers while paying for a reverse engineered Frankenstein app created in the basement of an abandoned 3 star hotel in rural Cambodia. Buyer beware!
Not worth the money
The app has some useful lessons but a lot of the features are buggy and do not work properly. I would expect much better considering the price of the subscription!
Clear instructions and responses
This app is simple and easy to use. The Al speech can be slowed down giving you the ability to understand what is being said. The feedback is also very helpful and informative.
Absolutely Horrible
Avoid this app at all costs. Jumpspeak’s billing practices are deceptive and unnecessarily confusing. The subscription terms and charges are not presented transparently. There are plenty of other language-learning apps that are more upfront about what you’re paying for. If you choose to proceed with Jumpspeak anyway, you will regret it.
Nice and fun app to learn
I like a lot Jumpspeak because the lessons are so easy to complete and you have the feeling of progressing the right way. Without unnecessary stuff or vocabulary. Easy and interactive. One problem though: With the new release and the latest update, the app doesn’t load at the Maine Home Screen. It works normal with AI and words menu but not at home. I uninstall it and installed again but can’t do the lessons because they don’t open.
Poor customer service
I accidentally bought two subscriptions and received an app with most features locked - certainly no direct speaking or correction. When my unknown two week trial ended I suddenly saw a charge on my credit card without warning. So I have a 2 3 month subscriptions running together. And my experience so far is that it is very disappointing . And no help from its hard to contact customer service.
Not so good for Thai, beginner and maybe not Asian languages.
The main issues I see have only been my limited experience of attempting to use for augmenting my Thai learning. I am a native English speaker. 1. Thai specific: while the app lets you set your gender and the gender of the other person, the AI model doesn’t seem to understand that in Thai, the ka and krap endings relate to the speakers gender. 2. May only Apply to Thai and other alphabets that are not rooted in Latin. The app gives helpful advice at the end of the conversation, but unfortunately, it quotes the foreign language in its native alphabet; this which assumes that the user can read and pronounce in that alphabet. During the conversation, the questions and suggested answer have both the local alphabet spelling and the Latin character phonetic spellings. Would be great to have both in the analysis.
Vastly superior
Perfect for daily immersion Italian practice. Works well alongside Preply and immersive listening & reading. 5 days in - vastly superior and highly effective compared to Duolingo and MakesYouFluent - both tried and rejected.
AI driven and buggy
Full of bugs and inconsistencies. AI conversations are weird and jump all over the place. Sometimes the audio just stops or the conversation suddenly changes to a completely different context, like you’re checking into a hotel and suddenly the receptionist you were talking to becomes a friend who is asking you about dinner.
Lots of bugs but fun to use
I am enjoying using Jumpspeak to learn Italian. I am already ar C1 although there is no way that I am that fluent in real life. I get annoyed by the fact that the feminine “voices” do not use the feminine endings for adjectives and verbs which would be required. Ok I know it is only an A I speaker but it shoukd still use the correct endings. There are also often weong translations into English but I usually don’t read these anyway. All in all it is more challenging and stretching than Duolingo which I was using for ages before without having the competitive addictive element that Duolingo has. I would like to have the premium premium version but I think it is too expensive. I would love for them to offer me the upgrade for free.
Not for complete beginners
I’m happy with the refund system. This app just isn’t for complete beginners.
Had High Hopes But Not Impressed
I’ve been using Duolingo on and off for years, but saw the ads for Jumpspeak and thought I’d give it a try. It has great potential, as others have said, but there are a lot of problems. Firstly, it starts off by teaching you words and then has you pull words into sentences BUT half the words in the sentences you are supposed to create have not been taught. For me, I know a fair amount of them from using Duolingo, but for someone just starting, this would be very frustrating. It is for me as well as there are still words I don’t know and haven’t been taught in the lesson that I’m expected somehow to know. Also in the ai chat, it seems to have a predetermined set of responses and unless you respond with what it expects, the responses don’t make sense. For example I was doing a lesson where I’m supposed to be chatting with a cafe owner to get their wifi and I have to buy a coffee to do so. No problem, but when I asked “can I use your wifi?” It came back with “what is the password”? Lastly, in some lessons it is following a short story and you do a listening, then speaking lesson of the same story but in the listening version part of the conversation is missing so it doesn’t make sense. I’ll be cancelling.
Enjoying it .
Much better for me than others apps I’ve used .
Do Not Allow Automatic Renewal
Be sure to cancel the automatic renewal until you’re certain that you will continue using the app. I chose a different path after signing up for this and was charged again a year later. I canceled immediately the day I was charged but they refused to refund me and stated that I was not eligible for a refund. Beware.
Good app but buggy and slow
Hey Jumpspeak team, good work on the app! Unfortunately the experience is a bit ruined because of the bugs and the loading times. I just finished a first module and at the end of the writing and conversation lessons, there is no button or no message that tells you that you have succeeded, you have to go back by pressing the “before arrow”. This causes you to lose the lesson sometimes. Adding to that that when I change languages from Italian to German, the app stays stuck on the loading screen sometimes and it takes too long to load. Pls. Fix this as I think the app has a lot of potential.
Sign up not user friendly
Haven’t had the chance to use the app yet, sign up was very heavily sales oriented trying to get more money before first sign ip was even completed. Then link to app download (not email link) allowed different email sign in, I’m now stuck in a spiral where I can’t sign out of wrong email account so it wants me to pay again
Beware
I signed up for the basic Jumpspeak one year subscription but declined the Premium option. Then on day two, it kept pushing me to pay. I mistakenly thought I hadn’t paid and agreed to pay $99 but it turned out that was for the Premium option which I intended to decline. Be careful!
Great app
Excellent app for language learning
horrible business
Bought an intro subscription only for the app to say I am not subscribed and company trying to sell upgrade. after paying $79 i get repeated lessons and everything else is locked. stick with duolingo
Great idea but still full of bugs and no way to report them
Maybe spend less on Instagram ads and more fixing bugs and UI.
The AI interaction is nonsensical garbled idiocy.
Some parts are good, some parts like a glorified duolingo and the AI interactive parts do not reply to what you type, they are pre-programmed and scripted. The AI is therefore not AI. I am disappointed having paid £50. I would not currently recommend. Type in ‘can we book for another night’ and the reply is ‘down the hall on the right’ like a Commodore 64 reply in 1984. Using the app on an ipad is awful as it is designed fpr a phone and does not enlarge to fit the screen and you have to type in your replies on a tiny phone size keyboard. Please do much better. This app is nowhere near as good as the advertising for it would lead you to believe.
Bggy
Too many bugs. Recommend waiting until it works better.
