What people like
- Effective for improving reading comprehension and vocabulary
- Content tailored to specific language levels
- Convenient tap-to-translate feature for words
- Responsive and helpful customer support
What they complain about
- Inaccurate AI-generated text and poor pronunciation
- Frustrating subscription and refund policies

- Issues with temporary story availability and progress saving
Amazing app but…
I love this app for learning, the stories are great, the options are plentiful, and it has helped my reading comprehension immensely. The only feature I’d wish they’d add is when you click on a verb to translate it, I’d like it if there was the un conjugated form too. That way you could learn new base verbs as well as their forms. Just an idea, hope y’all like it.
No Free Trial - Not Worth It
First off - no free trial offered, so you jst have to jump in and pay for the trial period. Then, although the concept sounds appealing, my foreign language level is elementary .. so you’d think I’d start out reading elementary-level books? No - I started out on Sherlock Holmes. I don’t think this app will really help my foreign language comprehension.
Does what it should
Was expecting full books, but these were only short versions
Feels like a beta product.
Overpriced for a work in progress Quotation marks missing in most books when a character is speaking. No mute button. No ability to delete unwanted books. You can save words into a vocab list, but no context, part of speech, verb tense, etc; Nothing but the word and translation, making this feature mostly worthless. You can click on a word in a book and you get the exact same result. This app has so much potential if it ever gets finished.
Zowel vertaling als uitspraak verdienen nogal wat verbetering
Engelse uitspraak van Spaanse woorden en ook de vertaling laat te wensen over. Met reverso ernaast werkt het prima.
My first time reading a story en Español - I loved it.
I diligently filled out what I thought my ability was in Spanish. My first story was a great and clear read. Onward! I am 81 and it was still fun and clear to me.
Buns
It asks for a free trial as soon as you log in and you can’t try it at all.
Great books but a bit expensive
I did a 7 day free trial and I liked the books and being able to save words, especially for past tense conjugations in the wild but it’s too expensive.
Inconsistent summaries
It’s difficult to enjoy the stories as they contain inconsistencies and repetitions.
Learning and fun
I was really surprised how well I understood the stories. I couldn’t understand every word and for those words, I merely had to tap on them and the definition came up as well as a link to hear the word spoken, tapping on the menu, gave a translation for the entire sentence. So far, I’ve read a Grimm fairytale and a story taken from Alice in Wonderland. I’ve read in many places that listening to Spanish text while reading the text is a great learning technique and even better if you say the words along with the reader. This app is designed for all of those things and it’s fun! For now, I must go. Alicia is waiting for me al País de las Maravillas
False cancellation
I tried this app, and I decided that it was not for me. I canceled this app about a week and a half after downloading it. Did not use it. I canceled before the date and they still charged me and then when I asked for a refund, they said they do not give refund so I suggest you make sure that you like their product before you commit to it because you will not get your money back they lie
Eveline
I tried this without sound at first and it’s great! I’m at level 94 after 800 days with Duolingo French and this intermediate level story was perfect. I was unsure of a few words but just touched them for a translation. I will go back and read it again along with the narrator to improve my listening skills and accent. Just great!
una buena herramienta
a good way to learn syntax and broaden your vocabulary while meeting you where your at.
Support is responsive
Had a problem with the application, no audio . Sent a note to support site got response within a couple hours. The problem (mine!) diagnosed quickly.
Bad
Really bad
Great app for readers!
Love being able to read my favorite stories in my Target language level. It makes it easy to build my vocabulary and see my progress! I only wish that the bot reader came in different voices and the vocabulary review was more than 10 words at a time.
Good, but…
This app really doesn’t do much, but what it provides is good. It really perfectly matched my reading selections to my level of comprehension. It’s right where I want to be in my Spanish studies. However, there’s no way to translate phrases or sentences, one can only choose single words. Words, alone, have multiple meanings, and taken out of context you don’t always get the correct definition. I wish there were a way to select a group of words or even complete sentences. It would be cool if the app allowed copying a selection to paste into Google Translate, but that ability doesn’t exist. Sadly, I find myself wondering if it’d be better to use my library card , get some books and use Google to translate. Also, I have read reviews that reference audio, is the app supposed to read out loud so I can listen as I read? That would be awesome!
Highly Recommended
This app is wonderful with new helpful content every day. There support team is wonderful and helpful and I think this is a great tool for someone looking for more help in learning a language
Charged me during trial period
I am so frustrated. This app charged me during the trial window, I had even cancelled the trial way before it ended. Asked apple for a refund, denied twice. Emailed Eppika’s support line, never responded. Googled if other users experienced this and it said yes, yet this app somehow has great reviews. App is fine, I just wasn’t at the level to enjoy reading yet and thought I would have been.
I Like It but…
I’ve been using this app for about a month now and I really enjoy the selection of stories at my level. I actually look forward to my daily Spanish reading. But there are a couple things I think could be better. I wish I could save phrases and not just single words. I think a library of common phrases would be helpful for the user. The biggest issue for me is when I cannot finish a story in the hours allotted, it just disappears! A new story appears the next day with seemingly no way back to unfinished reading. I was engrossed by some stories I didn’t get to finish (life happens). And while I can see all my completed books, I can’t find my incomplete reading! Am I missing something? Also, while the story selection is wonderful in simplified Spanish, I found at least one that was very inaccurate (like it was written by AI). I believe the “Hero” of Eppika’s translation of the La Camisa de Margarita is actually the “bad” guy. Am I wrong? Because I enjoy the reading, I often look up the stories after reading them in the app so I was surprised by such an inaccuracy. Of course, many details of the original stories are left out for simplicity but some details actually drive the story and without those details, the story doesn’t really make sense (so far only one story was really confusing because of missing details). I suspect AI to be the culprit. So, I do hope the Spanish pronunciation and phrasing I am learning on Eppika isn’t mangled by AI, as I read a review where someone mentioned the pronunciation is sometimes incorrect.
Sound/pronunciation doesn’t work
I liked the content but the sound doesn’t work…..
Best Language App ever
I am amazed at how much my listening comprehension has improved just from reading and listening to books through Eppika. My vocabulary and pronunciation have improved as well. I find the app extremely relaxing to use and I look forward to it every day . And that is saying a lot for a language learning app!
Terrible app
Terrible app that utilizes AI voice to read AI generated text. They also have a scammy subscription model, I signed up for a free trial however I was still fully charged for the subscription and even when I immediately cancelled, I wasn't refunded. I had to get in touch with Apple and they only offered me a prorated refund for an app that I never used. If you are serious about language learning, there are plenty of other resources out there that are not scammy.
Good with Potential for Greatness
I have listened to a few stories on Eppika and overall have really enjoyed it. It is a great tool to have while I walk on the treadmill :) Pros: - Interesting stories, with a mix of classics and modern books - Highlighting text as it reads - Focus is on Spanish learning, so I have a lot of faith that the cons will be improved Cons: - AI or TTS narrator that does not always pronounce words in Spanish correctly - I was surprised Lessons in Chemistry got past editors! - No in-app translation or bookmarking. Imagine being able to bookmark words, create lists, it would be the dream! - Super minor and I’m just nitpicking at this point but the “best of the New York Times” section is called “Best Nyt” when it should at least be capitalized into “Best NYT” The foundation exists for this app to be one of the best language learning apps out there. I will absolutely change my rating if it improves. I love the idea of this app so much that I would work for Eppika if I could. (Hire me!)
Great selection

Refund issue
I signed up for the free trial. I did actually try the app once, but didn’t feel it would be hopeful for me to learn Spanish further. I forgot to cancel so that I wouldn’t be charged $89.99 for the year. That was my mistake, I admit. BUT. When I received an email confirming my purchase for the year at 4:37 pm, I requested a refund as quickly as I could, so quickly (because I was so sure I didn’t want to use the app) that I received a confirmation of that refund request at 4:38 pm. I was denied a refund, so I appealed (including providing all of this info) and was denied again. An an exception, especially when economically times are difficult, would be helpful. Especially given how quickly I requested a refund when I realized my mistake, From what I understand refund denials are Apple’s decision, not the makers of the app itself, but I couldn’t find a place to review Apple, so I’m posting here. Don’t chance using this app if you might not want it.
Reading daily!
I was skeptical but this app really works for me. For years I’ve looked for stories I could read in Spanish that weren’t terribly boring or too difficult. The Eppika stories are at my level and they’re interesting. I’m enjoying reading in Spanish - yay!
Way too many errors
Reading the daily stories during my free trial was enjoyable. But reading my first book in Spanish (a simplified version of a novel, El niño de la bola) was a terrible experience. Characters’ names were all mixed up; key details were left out; and some same sentences were repeated again and again, to the extent that it got really boring. Would not recommend this App until these problems get fixed.
Excited to try
I am a teacher and am excited to try this app to further my Spanish that I use for my home life and work. However, I wanted to say that the reason I chose to download is due to the thoughtful responses of the developer to others. Thank you for caring about your customers. After using the app for a few days: I love that I could just jump to my intermediate level and begin learning! I have never found a language program that allowed this; and I have searched for years! The books are interesting and entertaining. I am enjoying reading in a way I did not expect. I love that I can practice the tenses in Spanish in real time! (Especially past tense!) I love the feature that will allow me to save words I do not understand. I have two suggestions: 1. After I practice the vocabulary word. I would like to use the “hard/ easy” tool. Could you make it sort my words so that I can just review the words I marked “hard” for me? Also, I would love a highlight tool. So that I could highlight phrases to review. This would help me to review the hard words together in the context of the story.
The French learning is garbage
They want me to pay full price for their French selection which has 1% of the library as Spanish, the books do not translate in context making it useless to a brand new language learner. This is not at all what was advertised
Learn vocabulary in context
I love this app! I’m an intermediate Spanish speaker, looking for ways to expand my vocabulary. This is a perfect way to do it. It has been so easy to make it part of my nightly routine. I love it
This app doesn’t work
Asked my many times the same question and never started it has a loop. Looks like scam
