Better for YNAB
I read the book, You Need A Budget, and then downloaded the app by the same org. Goodbudget is simpler and works better.
No iPad Support
This app is old and near unusable if like me you use an iPad in the Magic Keyboard. This program looks like it may possibly have some cool features, but if they are too cumbersome to get to, do these features really matter?
Finally Fixed!
The app being broken for 5 days almost had me go to another envelope app that’s actually FREE for me to use because I’m a coordinator for FPU. This CAN NOT happen again! You’ve GOT to test the app updates before you roll them out! I’ve used this app for about 12-13 years now, and have always been happy with it up until this mess up. For this, you loose one star!
No free syncing
You have to pay for a subscription to link / auto sync bank accounts. Otherwise you’re manually inputting every transaction.
No Bar Charts or Pie Charts 😕
Have loved this app and the charts but since the latest IOS update the charts don’t show up anymore. I checked and there has not been an update to this app since a month ago. Please fix this!

App not syncing
App and desktop are not correctly syncing across multiple devices, please fix.
Updates needed
I have multiple accounts that won’t sync with the app for some reason (they sync with my other apps no problem). That makes this a bit tedious but still pretty good. I also wish in the “annual budget” section that it would tell you when you have fully funded that budget for the year instead of only showing how much money you have left for the year. For instance, I don’t want to spend more than $2400 on gifts throughout the year but when I buy birthday gifts in Feb or March it only shows me the money left from what I’ve funded, but not how much more I need to fund. So it looks like I still need to add $2400 instead of the $2000 bc I spent $400.
Potential
I really like how straight-forward the app is, however, the initial setup is insane. My credit cards unlink as soon as I select "I'm paying it off" instead of "pay in full each month" and the lightning bolt goes away. When I set this up halfway through the month it's impossible to match what's been paid already.
Needs improvement
Needs improvement on a number of features. One example is at on income you have to list twice the amount being deposited.
Keeps Spouses on the Same Page
I love this app and we have had it for several years, when it used to be called Easy Envelope Budget Assistant (EEBA). We did financial planning and budgeting classes early in our marriage and this app has allowed us to stay within our budget and communicating and recording our spending well. This has been such a support for our marriage and has saved us from many arguments!
What is this?
Maddeningly complex app for no reason. I just want a tool that downloads transactions that I can categorize. This app ain’t it.
best budget app!
i’ve used this app for almost two years. it’s the perfect app for me to use for simple budget projection. i use the free version and it has everything i need! it’s easy to navigate and simple to use. i love it. one suggestion— please fix the “due date” feature for “goal” envelopes, so that we can meet a goal for a single envelope more than once. sometimes i save the money for a particular category for a certain date, spend that money, and then want to save money for the same category again without having to delete the envelope history. but when doing this, it won’t tell me the amount to put in per pay period.
Could be great if your accounts sync
Purchased and then failed to sync my main bank account. Then my other account stopped syncing after a few days. Liked it if it would work for all my accounts. Waist of time and money.
Good for iPhone not IPad
This app is definitely optimized for the phone, which is nice on the go for making sure you are keeping up to date with where your budget is at, but I prefer being able to sit down with the bigger iPad screen on payday or if I’m needing to do more than minor readjusting of the budget. It only is viewable in Portrait on the iPad, sorta, which doesn’t work for some of the iPad keyboards out there.

dont know how this is a 5 star app
ashamed to say I wasted about an hour trying to make a budget. this application cant even do basic math. seems the math got worse when i added more envelopes. youre better off putting your budget in a note, I would never pay a monthly sub for this.
Excellent app!
I highly recommend this app. I give it a 4.5 stars. We’ve been using it for years for budgeting and it has been incredibly helpful and a wonderful resource. Our only complaint is that since the latest update when we tap on the name of the company we spent at it either doesn’t work or picks an entirely different name. It’s really frustrating having to repeat the process. If that was fixed we’d be soooo happy!
Used to be good
Been a long standing user. App was always buggy, but now I just downloaded latest versionand my envelopes and transactions were wiped out. It’s no longer synching. Trash. Not happy!
Very basic. Missing more stats and insights
I don’t mind at all putting things in manually. I really think there needs to be better stats and insights - “you are spending more on travel than last year” or “your dog walking expenses have gone up this quarter compared to last 2 quarters”. Something with AI. Or at least if I could manually compare category spending over time - track all dog envelope expenses over time to see how this changes over the last few years. Look at envelope for groceries to see if that’s been slowly rising or falling. It would be great if there’s a button - control for inflation - to see if there is just inflation growth in expenses or actually lifestyle inflation. A very very easy fix which I really want is the ability to look at the pie chart of all expenses over the last 12 months - not only calendar year 2024 vs 2025. But like the last 12 months from today. So many small adjustments I think would help analyze spending but it’s not even possible to view in the app.

Hard to figure out how to start fresh each month, reload your envelopes, etc. it just wasn’t easy to use.

Life Changing!!
I have used Goodbudget for about 10 years and it has helped me completely turn my financial life around. I was bankrupt and and now I am the most financially stable person I know. There’s no better way to budget than envelope budgeting!
Scam
Paid for the subscription and my bank won’t even link. If you have Family Security don’t waste your time purchasing. The free version is also entirely wrong.
A loyal customer for a decade, but still lacking an iPad app?!
I have used Goodbudget for 10 years now, and it has absolutely changed my life. Even as a single-person household working in human services, Goodbudget helped me save a down payment for a house, which I bought 18 months after I began using the program. Today, Goodbudget helps make paying all the monthly bills possible and still have money for 401k and for whatever fun goals I set, such as saving up for an overseas vacation or a new car. I can’t recommend this program enough. However, it’s shocking to me that a decade later, there still isn’t an iPad app. I would also like to see a referral program where we can be rewarded for bringing our friends and providing Goodbudget with new long-term paying customers. But before that happens, Goodbudget would definitely be more attractive to my friends and family if it had an iPad app!

Been glitching a lot lately, like entering a transaction doesn’t save.. makes me paranoid now if my record of transactions isn’t accurate
Missing a key feature
While this app is really good at dividing up how much to allocate toward each bill or “envelope”, one key feature that would help this app meet my needs is the ability to rank each bill according to priority. Like a 4 tier system because there’s an average of 4 weeks per month. The bills in tier 1 are highest priority and the app can calculate how much to set aside to pay the tier 1 bills by their due date. Tiers 2-4 can be considered respectively once each tier before it has been accounted for. This method frees up funds per week towards something else. An alternative is to implement the ability to disable certain bills so that only active ones are budgeted. This is a manual version of the tier idea that would just require going in weekly and enabling/ disabling bills as needed. Can be useful if a bill has been paid for the month already (maybe the user got a bonus at work or received a gift or something) they’ll have the option of getting ahead on the bill or reallocating those funds elsewhere. Right now, the only way to do anything similar is to delete the entire envelope, which is not ideal. I’m not sure if it’s common for people to budget for every single bill, every week, all throughout the month, with every check. But if there are people that, for example, budget on the 3rd week of this month for bills due in the 1st week of next month, in a staggered fashion, this feature would LITERALLY be a life saver. I really hope something like this could be implemented because I like this app.
Exceptional Usability Phenomenal Impact
Hard to explain just how amazing this app is. I by no means live paycheck to paycheck, but the methodology of enveloping has enhanced my finances and savings to a tremendous degree. Knowing what I should be spending (not what I can afford to spend) assured I save ~10% more a year than I would if I’d have been flying blind. The auto linkage with accounts they rolled out recently just continues to demonstrate the teams commitment to a wonderful life changing product

Good app but confusing
I used this app for a year but finally had to switch due to setup issues. I'm someone who wants to manually input every transaction so I know exactly where my money is going. if bank account integration is what you're looking for this is not the review for you. Pros: I love how the app remembers how certain transactions belong to certain categories. That saves a lot of entry time. it's pretty easy to dive into expenses per envelope or look at the pie chart for the current month or past month (more than 1 month previous requires you to input specific dates.) Cons: the app is primarily set up by expense envelopes. They're "filled" every month with your budgeted amount and rollover excess or unspent dollars. I've never loved this feature but have been able to deal with it until today. I tried making a new budget for this year and for the life of me cannot figure out how to make each month reset with no rollover. I looked through my categories after I tried to change my budget and all of my expenses were completely wrong and didnt add up to the transactions within the folder. This could easily be user error on my part but if I'm not easily able to change monthly budgets with accurate expense tracking then I'm not able to use this app.

Better ones out there
This has become one of the most ineffective ways to track our budget. While the idea seems great it’s finicky and glitchy. Sometimes you have to log onto the site to do stuff when it should all be handled with the app. Because it requires the site it doesn’t always sync and there are connection issues when out and about trying to record expenses.

Super good way to keep track of your monthly budget & spending by utilizing envelopes for each item. It would be nice if you could change the background colour, it’s green, which is great, but I would prefer blue!
Too expensive
If you want more options you have to pay an arm and a leg for it. Seems counterproductive considering that it’s a budgeting app!
No Washington federal
This is just another app that doesn’t offer Washington federal I don’t understand. I haven’t found one yet
Great “Envelope System” app
I had been using Accounts2 for many many years. Which served me beautifully, but I wanted something less manual to track envelope spending (we use cards not cash). This is way easier to track transactions between my partner and I. I don’t use it for our household budget. I’m pretty dialed in with my trusty spreadsheet for that. I only use this to track envelope spending, but it’s still useful to see budget line expenses come through and it serves as a note to as add them to my spreadsheet and then clear them from the app. Saves me from having to log into my online banking all the time to reconcile. Huge time saver all around!
Bug
There is a bug. If you don’t have envelopes but just income, the app crashes when you click on the income.
Decent Budgeting App
While there is a bit of a learning curve to understand how to use it, I find that it works best for what I need. That said, there are a couple things that would be great to see: - Bi weekly debt payments. Yes there are workarounds to this, but considering the subscription fees, I shouldn’t have to use a work around for a fairly common scenario - Grouped envelopes: This is super helpful on the web version, it would be cool to see this brought over to the iOS version as well. - iPad optimized version.
Removed Features :(
Hi, used to really love the app but you recently removed the “set to...” option for the monthly envelope fill and now I have to do math in my head to zero out the balance instead of simply “set to 0.00” ... really slows the monthly process down.
