Won’t connect to bank
App has been down since June 19th with no response from support despite multiple attempts. Can’t connect to bank. Please help!
Good app - but need to purchase subscription to really benefit and even then…some critiques.
The free version of the app is pretty decent for allowing you to create a budget with different customizable categories and you can manually input transactions to achieve full functionality. This is super laborious and tedious though. I did this for about 6 months and ran out of patience. I purchased a subscription thinking that it would be worth it and for the most part it was. The subscriptions allows you to sync bank accounts which auto populated transactions; but I ended up cancelling my subscription. Here are the reasons why I did: 1) There is no ability to link synced accounts with the wallet feature which means I still have to do laborious and tedious transactions. 2) There is no auto recognition of transfers (between synced accounts) so I’m still required to edit two separate transactions whenever I move money from one account to the other or my monthly expenses are messed up. 3) the auto import of transactions is pretty annoying because it doesn’t do a very good job of detecting the categories you input into your budget which means…you guessed it… more tedious work if I want to keep things corrected. If these things were improved/implemented I would seriously reconsider my cancellation of the subscription as this could be super powerful for budgeting.
Bank Connections
Bank connection fail to sync at least a couple times a year. Have to delete and we add. Can be annoying
It was great until it wasn’t.
I have been using the app for over a year and I used to love it. But since June they have this weird bug that know the credit card balance is showing as negative. So now you don’t really see how much you owe to the cards but how left of the balance to spent you have and it is really weird. I sent a couple of emails , I got one response and that was that yeah it is a bug and they would fix it. Literally 3 month has been pass and they didn’t fix it so I’m not longer using the app. Thank you.

Interface is nice, but data sync is horrible
I used this app for a few months to track my budget. I put a lot of time in getting it set up. It’s great it can link to bank account accounts and credit cards and bring in data. However, sometimes it re-syncs and goes back to the past and brings back data that was already reviewed and reclassifies it to different categories or duplicates it. I just can’t trust it. If it would just let you mark a transaction reviewed and never change it or duplicate it, then it would be great, but it just seems to continue to make mistakes that way. So I don’t recommend it for budgeting. I moved to Quicken Simplifi and it seems to more stable so far. Gives you the chance to batch select or mark what you’ve reviewed, unlike Buddy.
Great budget app
Really enjoy this app although the sync feature to bank accounts doesn’t really work, or works with a 1-2 week delay. I’ve turned it off and manually log everything
Was Great ! and then…
I really enjoyed this app and still do ; used it for a year, and then all of the sudden one day it deleted all of my data for a whole year and complied all of my transactions into one month. This was very frustrating because I could no longer look back and see what happened month to month ; I had put a lot of effort into categorizing properly and all of that went out the window. A refund or some sort of reparations would make me update my review because I really did find this app useful until the glitch that deleted all of my data.
Love the app but…
I would love to see an option to split transactions between multiple categories rather than having to have all separate transactions when I go to the store
Super easy to use
I’ve been using it for over a year now (free version) and it’s super easy to go add an expense into one of my ten dedicated categories while I’m out with friends or at the store
Bank Connections Broke
I’ve been using Buddy for 18 months. The first year it was great! In 2026 I have had consistent issues with bank connections and lost transaction data, which completely ruins the point of using the app. Messages to support have gone unanswered. Don’t waste your money; find a different budget app.
Add these features and I will buy unlimited
Make ability to change wallet type changes after creation and I will buy unlimited. Also I don't like that archived wallets need to be restored to view and that even when archived their balance can change and contribute to spending/saving wallet totals. Also the “savings” section in the overview is scuffed, not properly letting you separate out savings and non savings wallets, and double counting savings withdrawals and deposits just because the wallet is marked for savings in the code somehow. Also the "Transfer" category for transction only pops up when pressing the specific button in the wallets section and cannot otherwise be selected and disappears when choosing a wallet that is also a category. This should be fixed and the transfer category should always be choosable.
Categories
Buddy should have a feature where it learns to categorize transactions correctly based is similar transaction done earlier. It’s very manual and tedious task to manually categorize transactions where similar transactions are categorized differently earlier . Not happy at all with Buddy
Good but could be better
The app is good and mostly easy to use, however the wallet system isn't intuitive or accurate, the transactions can get posted late and be sorted to wrong categories. I wish there was a better system to correct the categories and the transactions sorted into each category. The wallet system definitely needs to go, it doesn't help me at all, only confuses me. Good app but room for improvement.

Update is not good
I liked this app up until the latest update. It no longer lets you review transactions before it adds them so now I have to go through and recategorize what’s been added. It also takes so much longer to sync with my credit card and bank. If I use my credit card on Tuesday I’m lucky to see the transaction by Friday which also makes it difficult to budget because I now have to keep a running list of pending transactions in my head. I think I’m going to have to look for other options/apps to use.
Great for Budgeting
Great app for budgeting and tracking your expenses. Quite ironic for an app like this to have micro transactions but oh well, base version is totally fine without connecting a bank. I’m a person who likes things visual so it helps a ton!
Very Buggy
Used to be great, but now super buggy. Recently it duplicated all my charges so that I had to manually remove them (and then did it again a couple weeks later) and always undoes any edits I make to titles and categories. Very difficult to use at this point. I’ve complained multiple times about the bugs and nothing has been done.
Looks nice but math is never right
I tried so many other apps and none were as nice as this one, but I go line by line by line every month trying to figure out why my “wallets” don’t match my real accounts and can never figure it out. That doesn’t matter as much to me because I mostly just use it to make sure I got all my bills paid but would be nice if that worked.
most user-friendly budgeting app ever made
other budgeting apps i’ve tried are unusable for me compared to buddy. it’s become a part of my routine because it is so easy to use and personalize. as a result i actually know what i am spending each month. i recommend this app to all my friends because it works and it’s free!
Stopped functioning after 2 years
I used and loved this app for 1-2 years, I paid for a life time premium subscription. At times bank accounts got disconnected but that was not an issue as it was easily fixable. As of 2-3 months ago the app completely stopped working. None of my transactions carried over anymore, and the account totals did not update at all. I tried everything to fix it, re-synced, disconnected and reconnected all accounts multiple times, waited months and retried all these things over and over again, emailed customer support NUMEROUS times. Filled out service requests in the app. I NEVER RECEIVED A RESPONSE AT ALL. Very unhappy as I loved this app when it was working properly so this is extremely frustrating. The life time premium fee was NOT cheap, yet the premium app features (synced bank accounts that automatically update transactions) is now completely nonfunctional after 2 years, the app only functions like the free version.
Easy to Use Basic Budget App
Love the app and it’s easy to use. Clearly shows your income and outgoing costs to see how much you are spending each day. I wish the app was more customizable with its layout. I haven’t tried to connect it directly to my bank account yet so I do not know much about that feature. I usually manually add my expenses each day.
Bad resyncing
My connections were down to more than two weeks and now that I am resyncing them duplicate transactions are coming in and messy my historical months
It’s okay
I think the app has potential. I switched off of YNAB cause of their price gouging. The one thing I think YNAB got right and what I am searching for is a budgeting app that easy to use from Apple Watch. I want something that I can input easily from Apple Watch into my budget and just forget about it. The Apple Watch aspect of the app I think is lacking. They need make a complication for the actual watch face. Also, syncing the categories from my budget on my phone to my watch so I do not have to go hunting for them would be great in terms of UX. Too many random categories to sort through makes it frustrating at times. The developers should just make the watch app similar to YNAB and this app would be a home run. Pretty solid app anyways and what I am looking for but the lack of functionality on Apple Watch may have me looking elsewhere.
Good app
Super easy to use. Just gotta manually do it. Not necessary to hook up any accounts if you don’t feel comfortable too. I personally like it. Makes me aware of where my money actually goes and how much I retain per month.
Works fine but in app purchase is not great
The App works fine for me. But when I switched to a new phone. It wiped out my life time premium purchase. And their support was not helpful when I contacted.
Multiple currencies not possible at the same time
Im travelling and spending money in multiple currencies. I synced all my transactions and it changed all my EUR to CAD. It didn’t even convert— it kept the same numerical value but just changed the symbol across every single transaction. I tried converting the other way and still the same problem. Very frustrating as that defeats the purpose of syncing my bank account if I have to manually adjust hundreds of transactions. Still giving it four stars though because it would be unfair not to.
Terrible interface
Will update when import functions get fixed. The app was great and easy to use until recent updates completely rendered the bank transaction import function useless. Not only does it import duplicate transactions that it previously imported but also no longer allows the user to review and edit imports before they get finalized. The review feature was super nice since it made it quick and easy to update multiple transactions
Frustrated with paid features
I’ve tried several budgeting apps but Buddy is the only one I’ve found that allows users to create multiple independent budgets and to delegate specific purchases to different budgets, which keeps me coming back but it’s not without its tradeoffs. My biggest frustrations are the following: 1) I have multiple credit cards with 1 company linked to my Buddy app however the app struggles to categorize transactions under the correct credit card. 2) Lack of category splitting, which means typing out lengthy notes in some transactions. 3) Lack of cross-platform compatibility (namely a desktop version). I really enjoy the simple user interface and customization options that are hard to come by in other paid apps, but it’s frustrating having to keep a sharp eye on my transactions and only being able to do so on my phone or iPad when I feel that having the option to use a desktop version would be much more helpful to avoid constantly switching screens when I’m updating (or correcting) my transactions in the app.

Budget confusion problems
Unfortunately, the bank connection feature is almost unusable. In the transaction details, the app does not clearly show which bank account a transaction belongs to , it only displays the memo/description. As a result, you have to guess which account the transaction came from. This is a very basic and essential detail that has not been properly implemented, and it creates a lot of confusion when managing multiple accounts. Additionally, the “Left to spend” indicator in the Budget section has no clear logic and is very misleading. Instead of showing how much of my planned monthly expenses are still left to be covered, it displays an unrelated value that does not reflect real budget planning at all. This makes it difficult to understand my actual financial position for the month.
You Actually Keep Using It
This app is so easy. I can quickly categorize expenses and see my budget to keep me on track with spending and saving. It’s fun and cartoonish to use so it makes a boring chore fun. Makes it simple to make good financial decisions and save because you actually know where your money goes. This and a google sheet to plan the year financially and you’re set.
Won’t stop crashing
I can’t link my accounts without the app crashing - beyond frustrating as you’re trying to get set to use
Buddy, but…
Pro : This is a great planner. Does the job, lots of options available and references to everyday life spending habits. Can customize your own spending options and categories as well. Budget planner is not spot on but helpful as a visual guide. Cons: as some people have mentioned connecting your bank can be a hassle. If you manage to connect your bank, grab all transactions and disconnect from there. No point in trying to keep syncing transactions. Manual entries are much better afterwards. Pay attention to how much the app says you have available to spend, this can be very misleading. It can also become tedious when it comes to organizing transactions the way you want it after importing from bank. Do this first before updating wallets. Personal Gripe: 4 star rating because I did the seven day trial and saw an option for one time purchase (Mind you this was only two weeks ago), trial ended and that option disappeared (sneaky stuff there, buddy). Now, only options for monthly or yearly subscriptions are available. I reluctantly did a one year subscription and will not be renewing afterwards unless the one time purchase returns. I think we should have an option in apps these days for one time purchases. Some people can do monthly and yearly subscriptions and some people would rather one time purchases. Please return that option at the 145-150 price range it was before. Naturally, Review will be updated depending on developer response
Major flaw defeats the point of having a budget app
Pros: -can set a custom date for the beginning of the budget cycle -a reminder to input expenses -ability to input expenses, and can make expenses recurring or not. But the thing that kills the app is that it ROUNDS the transactions you put in. If it you put 1.26, it’ll add $1 to your expenses. If you put 1.99 it’ll add $2. Because of this, it has said I spent $7.20 more than I actually did since I downloaded this app 10 days ago.
Buggy as hell
For the most part, I like this app but lately it has been buggy as hell. For instance, when I try to set a recurring transaction to align with my pay day, it keeps defaulting to every month, day X even though I selected every 4th week. It’s a bit annoying because it causes a misalignment in my anticipated transactions. I like the app and all but I’m glad I stopped paying for it

Neato
This works really well for me. I’m able to connect my banks, organize and review my transactions, categorize them by type of expense, see how much I have left in each category, as well as set and edit a budget plan each month. It’s easy to use and has helped me stay on track. The only downside is that occasionally it misses transactions and I have to go check it against my bank website. I don’t know if that is a Buddy issue, or a bank connectivity issue. It seems to mostly happen around bank holidays. A bit annoying, but overall I would recommend this app.
It’d be cool if it were
App looks pretty and I’m sure when it works. It works well, but I tried to connect two different accounts and I couldn’t connect. One of the banks said their accounts are able to connect through Plaid (the platform uses to connect to accounts ) but it didn’t actually work.
Looks lovely but should really advertise that it costs.
I’d like to use the app but can’t afford it. It looks very user-friendly and I love the aesthetic but it’s really unfortunate it doesn’t let you know that it costs to use. Would love to return if it ever has a free plan.
Favorite budgeting app!
I really like this app. It’s a budgeting app ya know but it does it well. The layout is my favorite thing about this app. I enjoy the UI, colors and overall design. To me, it makes it easier to use and it’s easy to navigate which further encourages me to use it like I should. This app has helped me a ton in getting my money anxiety under control by actually making and following a budget. The only thing that’s kind of annoying is that I have some custom categories created and many are expenses that happen frequently. No matter how long I file the same purchase from the same company under these custom categories, the app still defaults it to similar category but not the one I use. In reality this isn’t a huge deal but it would be nice if it could pick up on that or if I could assign charges from certain companies to certain categories. All in all, love this app and it helps me a ton! Thank you!!

It's decent, but there is a lot of functionality in a Budgeting App that leaves room for growth. Things to be desired. If the developer wants my ideas, they can pay me for it.

j'avais pris un abonnement un an et sans préavis l'application s'est déconnectée, et indiqué qu'il n'était pas possible de connecter cette banque sans plus de détails. J'ai payé les deux derniers mois pour rien et j'ai supprimé mon abonnement. c'est dommage car j'avais trouvé l'appli parfaite pour faire mon suivi financier personnel.
Meh
I get paid every two weeks, but you can’t change your budget for each payday. It’s just a set list of your budgets. For example if I want to pay one bill for one payday and a different bill the next, this doesn’t allow you flexibility to do that. You also can’t add due dates so I would have to still track my bills outside of the app.
