Yet another expansion!? Legendary
[Note: the free base-game is hours and hours of fun] I have been playing this one app for almost a decade, and beyond all hopes and dreams, they keep releasing expansions and keeping the experience fresh. Online and local multiplayer, tons of customization options, and always new gameplay. Really unmatched by any other digital board game!

I’ve purchased all the decks and promo cards twice (because I didn’t feel like doing the inevitable back and forth to get them to honor my purchases the first time), but now I have again lost access to 3 promo decks and refuses to buy them a third time

Horrible model
The game forces you to update. Sp after purchasing you really dont own the game because they hold you hostage for updated. Totally cruddy business model. Stay away.

2,825 gems, 1,465 damage gems, 1,069 dream points, 7,940 stars, and then it froze. 😢
Still “Thinking”
Was really hoping the latest update would decrease the amount of “thinking” the AI has to do, but unfortunately it is just marginally better. Still makes it a drag to play though.
My expansion decks are gone
I purchased all the expansion decks on my iPad. I haven’t played in a while, and when I went to play today, I don’t have any of them. I’m logged in and I tried restore, but nothing happens.
Years of Entertainment
I’ve been playing since it came out. Expansions are well timed and cheap. Friendly user base.
Deleted purchases again
This app used to be great. Twice now it has deleted my purchases and the restore purchases button doesn't work. It was able to get itself sorted out then it happened again. Am running the most recent version. Unacceptable.
Control center & other iOS multitasking menus log you out
If you want to change the brightness or volume while you’re in an online game, make sure you have enough time to wait for the server to log you back in afterwards. Even just an accidental hint of pull-up/down menu action will boot you from the server. Super annoying.
Oddly Poor Design
I like this game, and I still play it on the app, but some stuff here is just horrible design choice. Why does it take five seconds for cards to scroll across the screen when abilities trigger? Why can’t I turn off the motion, considering the “fast” option is sluggish? Why is the button to look at my constructs so tiny? Why can’t you auto-tap cultists when you have a hundred power stored up? Just a lot of small things that add up to an unpleasant experience.
New update has slowed it down even more.
I really like the game. The user interface is great. Since the new update winning when playing it solitaire is neigh impossible. So with that, and it’s increased sluggishness, I’m finally going to have to give it up. It’s just not worth it. The fun has been sucked out if it. As Dr. McCoy would say, "He’s dead Jim."
Deep
I’ve had this game since it first came out, and I still play it every day. It’s the one app that will never leave my phone.
Deleted purchases and a useless restore button
I’ve played and loved this game since I first played it in paper, but after getting a new phone a bunch of my purchases have been deleted. Judging by the other 1 star reviews this is a common error, which makes the big “restore” button in the store that seems to do absolutely nothing all the more frustrating.
Love the game
Such fun gameplay. Matchmaking is pretty simple and you can create games fast. I’ve had no issues with the UI or the performance. Love the game. I would love a competitive format.
Trash update.
Not a bad game, but now we’re just waiting for them to fix the bad update…
Good game to play, app needs tweaks
I have enjoyed playing this app, one thing that irks me about the multiplayer function, is that the “honor” is capped at 60, which prevents multiplayer games from reaching a “late game” as the honor gets used up too quickly. Developers, the player base wants the ability to increase honor pools in multiplayer!
Awesome game
One of my go to games. I have been playing this game for years and absolutely still love it. I have purchased many expansions and change the combinations to keep the play fresh. I enjoy getting the game in an endless loop. If you get the Reclamax, the Hedron Link Device, and the Tablet of Time’s Dawn, you can build a deck that allows you to take continuous turns and steel all the cards of the opponent. That’s my end goal. So much power can be collected and lots of tragedy involved. Just a fun, usually rewarding game. Can’t win them all, but in this game, if you play smart, you win most.

Very bad interface
The old interface was perfect. You could play a card while another animation was going, and the card-play trigger zones were appropriately sized. Now you have to wait for each animation to finish before you can do anything, and the the triggers/targets are so small that card-plays have to be needlessly precise. What used to be a smooth-flowing game is now very frustrating to play. I bought every expansion before the change. I don’t even play now, because the game feels so bad. Ascension iOS is ruined.
Has become slow and logs me out
I’ve played hundreds of games of Ascension in the past but after opening it up recently for the first time in years I noticed that the app feels super sluggish. It also makes me log in every time when playing games online. It saves my password but makes me go through the login screen and hit the button. It never used to do that for years and years. iPhone 14, iOS 17.3.1

Play it all the time. Great for killing time, short time commitment(longer with the expansions) my opinion, best phone game I’ve ever purchased
Thanks for ruining the game
It stopped working. Made the mistake of deleting and reinstalling. Now I’m forced to play against myself rather than the app. Why did you do this. Destroys the single player option. And there is no need to show the back of the cards. It slows the game down. Thanks for nothing.
One of the games of all time
Certainly a good alternative to the hard copy game but just wish it were labeled more especially the settings
Fix it please
The game itself is amazing, but this app is plagued by a freezing glitch that appears far too often. Once your deck size gets too large (easy to do with all of the expansions), it will inevitably lock up and you will lose your progress. This would be a five star review without this glitch.
GIVE US A HIGHER POINT CAP
Fun game, but i always feel like the game ends right as its really getting good. It couldn’t take more than a single line of code to let us increase the point limit, and it would give us much more flexibility in our games. If you’re worried about balance you could limit it to local or AI games. This is my most desired feature, devs get on it.

The game itself is fun and I have been enjoying it literally for years. I love deck building and this was my introduction to it. I do wish they would release some new expansions
It’s only gotten worse
I love this game and play constantly with friends and family. But it’s gotten worse… Most recently ALL of my promo packs but one were removed and the support team won’t respond. Above that the game itself loves to constantly glitch out and bump you back to the title screen in the middle of turns. Ascension is still a great game but playdek is absolute trash, avoid their games.
I’m not a big fan of the new layout but it’s okay
While I do appreciate the cards being bigger, the layout now feels more squished together.
Since last update it crashes all the time.
Love it, but now it crashes all the time. I play to 120 points for my long bus rides.
Sluggish
6 years later and they still have not fixed the bug where the game becomes super sluggish if the computer gets certain cards or hand combos.

Purchases disappear and no support
Over the last four years, I have purchased every expansion for myself and another player. Recently, I got a new phone, and reached out when I could not pull up to the games that I have on going with other players. Imagine my surprise one on my old phone, the other player in the family had all of the decks, again on a phone that they did not use, and on my new phone, at least all the decks do not show, even on several gams I have been in for over a year. I reached out and received garbage directions that have not worked for over four attempts. I have made every attempt to reach out to Toby and their customer service who takes about a week to respond, since these are time sensitive games, those games have expired due to this company’s lack of critical customer support. All. Decks were purchased for two players, which is more expensive than purchasing the game. Support shouldn’t take a month for basic steps, and they know this is an issue, as evidently others have experienced, and reported the same. Waiting to exhale, but I do not expect customer care or product support.
Can’t see the card!!
I open up the app today and wanted to play off-line game and I saw the card cut in half I can’t see the hole card ! Please fix !

Custom honor pool please!
Why can we increase honor pool only in offline mode? Please make this available in online mode, others can choose to accept a game or not. Game just starts getting good and it’s over.
Amazing adaptation, one suggestion
I love the fact that I can play this wherever I go. With the free stuff you get four full sets which already give you a lot of playability and a solid idea of what this game is about, more than enough of a bite to justify purchasing other sets, which you can get at a huge discount if you buy them all together. Seriously, the value for the price is fantastic. The CPU functions very well, giving players a challenge on their own, and you can play with friends via pass and play or through the Internet. Only two things I want to note, one being a small bug, not a dealbreaker, and the other a recommendation. First, when playing Storm of Souls, the Hedron Rising event trophy is supposed to allow you to preserve a construct when you are supposed to destroy it. However when one of my constructs is destroyed by a monster effect and I am prompted to try and preserve it, the game will not let me banish the Fanatic in my Construct Tray. In fact, I can’t interact with ANY card while the prompt is active. I am forced to click “NONE” and let my construct be destroyed, which can be quite frustrating. Also, when a construct is destroyed by a Hero effect, i.e. Hedron Pyromaniac, the prompt doesn’t even come up. My construct is destroyed and the Fanatic stays in my Construct Tray. Second, I wish it were possible to make custom center decks. I have a physical copy of Realms Unraveled as well as Ascension: Eternal. I love to combine those two sets, and often will choose which cards I want from each set in the center deck. Most of the time, when I’m playing the physical game, I’m not playing with both complete sets together; a handful of cards have been taken out. That is what I love about deck builders in general, and Ascension especially. It takes the idea of a TCG and puts all the cards together in one box. Ascension builds on that concept by still having expansions that you can mix and match. In the app you can combine sets, but you can’t choose specific cards to put together in one center deck. If PlayDek could add a function that incorporates that concept, I honestly think that would make it the most like the physical game. I’m sure I’m not the only one who would appreciate it. P.S. Does anyone else miss the old border designs??? 😢
Terrible update. Hand zoomed in too far
Please give the option to go back to how the layout used to be. It is helpful to be able to read all descriptions of cards in hand at once. iPhone XR everything is zoomed in to just being artwork in hand, discard pile, etc. When looking at my hand I like to be able to see all descriptions at once. It was easy to see which cards had abilities like draw a card, banish, unite, etc just because the descriptions in cards are laid out in generally the same way. I have a constant 40+ active games and this will make that impossible to continue. :( Please give an optional to go back to old layout. RIP
Love this game
Absolutely love Ascension. One of my all time favorite deck building games. To me, it’s second to Resident Evil Deck Building game, and that’s it. Now; I will say, I had to give it 4 stars instead of 5 just because the sole fact that you can’t increase the star count for a PvP match beyond the limit now. I can play a 240 star match against a computer, but only a 120 against friends. Change that PLEASE. Me and my buddies love playing the game and would absolutely love longer games.
Horrible new version
This app used to be great but they really messed up the re-design with a really poor interface. The interface is extra terrible on iPhone X - it's not optimized for the display at ALL (wasted empty space) and it's too easy to accidentally swipe the multiasking bar when playing a card - doing so causes Ascension to immediately exit back to the menu, and out of your game (in multiplayer). It takes rare poor talent to turn something good into something so shoddy. Please try harder to optimize this game for iPhone X!
No undo button Grrrrrr!
I bought this on a whim and it is now a game I love immensely. Occasionally you can play a card that accidentally banishes something and there is NO UNDO!! THIS CAN WRECK YOUR STRATEGY Sadly it is pricey to buy the expansions on the iOS store and while I have bought all of the add-ons on STEAM for my Macs and Windows systems, I can only play the basic game on my iPad. DEVELOPERS: any way to transfer steam purchases over? Alternatively please intro some bundles as right now there isn’t much incentive to get the additional packs especially for those of us earning in Developing nations. Steam had the benefit of offering deals in our local currencies which makes these things much ore affordable. Great game though!
Amazing app
This is one of the best implementations of a board/card game in app form I have played. I remember buying the expansion bundle years ago, and I feel it may not have transferred the transaction to my newest iPad, but I’m not 100% certain of that… If so, I’d dock it a star, but I really can’t remember. If you’re a deck-building fan, or you like the DC Comics deck-builder, definitely give this a look. I’ve played this for conservatively 200+ hours over the years.
Expansions don’t carry over platforms
Unable to join a friend’s match in andriod because I didn’t purchase the expansions on iOS. I got the expansions on Steam because my friends on andriod were able to play their expansions on their phone after purchasing the Steam version. All they had to do was login to their playdek accounts and got access to the expansions they purchased on steam. I don’t understand why this is not the same for iOS. Don’t bother with the app unless you plan on exclusively playing on the phone. The steam version is a lot better.
Please add Apple silicon device support

New update disappointing
Just tried the new updated and was disappointed. For me the issues is simply the new graphics and animation affect my enjoyment of game. I find the new graphics for the cards hard to see differences when playing on phone. Too dark and all the cards looks the same. Would have been nice to have the option to keep old graphics. The animation seems slower and clunky compared to previous version. I did not have a issue either crashing yet. Previous version I would have given 5. Played it every day. This version probably not.
