Very easy to use!
ForScore has been very good at keeping all of my music organized and easy to access. Getting all of my files into the app was also very easy to do through Google Drive.
The good and the very very bad
ForScore is the leader in digital sheet music archiving, reading and annotating and there is plenty to love about the software. But there is a fatal flaw which undermines the functionality and usability of the software which the company has singularly failed to fix, in spite of copious expressions of frustration from users. The Achilles’ heel is synchronizing scores across devices. Like many other users, I have spent hours coping with failed syncs, errors, duplications, grayed out scores. This in spite of trying every fix the company - and other users - have suggested. Several times I have had to delete scores and rebuild the library. It’s about time the company listened to its users and fixed this. I have too much invested in a large score library to switch but if you are starting from scratch, I recommend that you steer clear of this software until it has been fixed.
Very good but still room to be better
The app does the job nicely for the most part. Little missing things here and there keep it from being great—when installing on a new device, I have to add a document on that device first to be able to set up iCloud sync; and I’ve found no way to move multiple items to a library in one go. Things like that.
If you are just starting out consider your options
As of this writing I have 1047 scores and counting. I am totally committed to this app, but as described in other reviews it has more than one achilles heal. My particular issue is that it has a buffering problem. If you are writing your own scores or charts from scratch or marking things up with the annotation bar, it has occasion to erase a huge portion of your work when you close the annotation bar. It does this at random. I find myself having to rewrite all or a portion of a chart at least once every time I have a medium sized chart session (15 or more). These are mostly one pagers and two pagers. If you are scoring on this by hand the potential to lose a large portion of work is very real. They have known of the problem for years. Do a search. Sadly it is a great app and many of the people I work with use it. Other issues that have been brought up are moving work across platforms.
App needs « Get started » videos
.i am not happy with being just dropped into an app. I did not know to pull from the top, tap upper right etc to get started. I can’t figure out how to drop new scores into file. Trying to figure out how I created the file in the first place. Does our whole new world require going to YouTube to figure out how to find an « on » button? I’ll figure this out but it’s frustrating. It’s like trying to figure out which screw driver to use and then discovering by accident that you need a star top and not a Phillips head.
One week in… Amazing!
Trying to dig my way out of a music room stuffed to the brim. I’ve learned to quickly scan sheet music into FS, and organize large amounts of various types of music by entering the metadata that works for me. I can’t wait to get into the built in practice tools like the metronome and tuner. I’ve still got a lot to do but now I have the tools to do it. Thank you, forScore!
iPhone syncing fails often without notice
I have forscore on Mac iPad and iPhone. I do most of the Inuit on Mac, most playing using iPad, and use iPhone just because it’s handy at times. iPhone consistently stops syncing due to some vague “server date” problem. Restarting requires choosing server or iOS. Unacceptable. I’m deleting the iPhone app.
Good, but not perfect
Would be better if I could manually add sync points for page turns. Also, when playing along, the play/pause buttons on my MacBook don’t function natively with the software.

Forscore was recommended to me for readIng renaissance polyphony from facsimile editions. I’ve now been using it for several months, and I’m hooked. Goodbye to struggling with crufty, dog-eared paper copies in poor light! It’s hard to think of any comment that hasn’t been made here before, except that... ... in another life I have to read technical manuals in PDF form, and I needed an app in which to make marginal notes. It took an embarrassingly long time to realise that I already had one. Update (after several years use): I'm downgrading this to 2 stars for the following reasons: 1. The developer, a single programmer it seems, appears to have lost interest in this program, and neither posts updates nor responds to bug reports. 2. There are long-standing bugs that can require an app hard-restart during rehearsal/performance: 2.1. The spontaneous, random, event of appearance of the page-scroll-thumbnail, obscuring part of the page, and persisting until an app hard-restart, and 2.2. The inability to turn pages after hiding the default annotation layer, for which the workround seems to require an app hard-restart followed by the creation of a score-layer. Beware getting locked-in to this app. With hundreds of scores and countless hours of annotations, I find myself trapped in a proprietary format with no migration path out of it.
Good App navigation is a challenge
Love the app except navigation needs a lot of improvement to make it more intuitive. I spend too much time trying to figure out how to do some things which is frustrating.

New version kills iCloud sync with old version??
TLDR: DO NOT UPGRADE if you are using iCloud syncing with any older iPads. New version of forScore appears to transparently change sync data without warning, which prevents older versions from syncing. Bought a new iPad last month and installed forScore on it. Set up iCloud syncing like normal. It’s not my sheet music iPad, but nice to have music on it for the occasional use. Went to my sheet music iPad today and realized it hasn’t synced since last month. Dragged down in the dialog box to force a sync, and an error message pops up: “forScore Update Required.” Okay, went to App Store. No updates available - forScore requires iOS 17 or later. Sheet music iPad is an old iPad Pro, because hey it’s just sheet music and that doesn’t require much processing power. Was working great, until I have to upgrade iOS, and the iPad is too old to do that. And now I can’t sync my sheet music, so the iPad basically got obsoleted with no warning and no way to roll it back. To be clear, my complaint is not that forScore got upgraded and now only supports newer iOSes. That’s fine and appropriate. My complaint is that setting up iCloud sync on a newer version apparently changed my sync data and has now rendered my previously functional iPad useless. There was no warning from forScore that they were going to do this. There’s no backwards compatibility. There’s no way to roll back either the forScore version or the old iCloud sync data. There’s no way to get my previously perfectly functional iPad working again. Really feels like a particularly customer-unfriendly approach. Wish I had literally any option other than buying a new iPad. 🤦♂️
Lovely App but Have Some Requests
There are a lot of great aspects of this app for reading music. I use this to read music in my bell choir, as well as many people in my choir. It’s very reliable, and it’s really easy to organize my music. It’s also cool that there’s a built in metronome, keyboard, and ability to play audio. All awesome features. Some things I would LOVE to see is the ability to collaborate on scores with other ForScore users. I often share my music with other people in my choir, and we can only take one iPad home, so it would be nice if we could have the notes automatically synced to each other’s scores. Also, this is something I may have to check, but I wish there was a feature to only be able to write with the Apple Pencil. We accidentally write with our palms a lot!
Good app, started having issues…
Notes on pages randomly become invisible. This is unacceptable. It almost cost me a very special performance. Please fix your app.
Great on iPad, broken on Mac
I’ve used ForScore for a decade or more, I think. It’s always been fantastic on iPad, and I give THAT app 5 stars. Unfortunately, on my MacBook Air (M3) and iMac (M1), since the last major OS update, ForScore will not run. It opens and crashes. I’ve uninstalled multiple times, to no success. Very frustrating, as I have all the music syncing to iCloud and want to work off and share sheet music through my computers, rather than having to airdrop to a device that is connected already.

Fix the piano!!
Piano feature used to be really useful but now can’t pin it on the page, so it now hides half the page of music. Why??? It used to be fine, why change it to make it more awkward???
Laggy
Half page turns lag when the next page is a new file. You should code the app to load the next file earlier in the background. Im running an m2 ipad pro, lag should literally not exist on this app. The last thing I need is for the app to have a stroke when i need to turn the page.
Need a PhD to operate it
Maybe it’s my frustration early on But don’t expect to get this and start right away.
Good but missing a lot of Apple Pencil features that I would expect
I am aware that this is primarily a sheet music apple which it does well at but coming from Goodnotes, there is some functionality that is lacking here: - if using finger instead of pencil then this should control page navigation regardless of what writing mode is selected - double tap with two fingers should undo - there should be multiple eraser options like the block eraser where it erases entire scribbles
Use for storing, recalling and reading scores
A Must for Performing Musicians I’ve used For Score for over 3 years now. Since I play in big jazz bands, small ensembles, quartets and trios, as well as for church, I never would be able to manage all those scores if they were in hard copy. I have a library for each and create set lists as needed for a particular gig or Sunday service. I have over 2700 songs/arrangements on my iPads (yes, I use two because sometimes page turns are particularly hard on piano and accordion scores, so I can set up difficult page turns easier this way. Well worth the extra and it’s comforting to know everything is backed up, should I lose one pad. Don’t know what I ever did without For Score and my iPads.
Unresponsive app and No Support for help
This app, although great in theory, does not do anything it says it does in the screen shots. I Cant even find their phone or email for help. Way too difficult for a beginner. I'll request a refund through my CC since i can't get ahold of this company.
Wonderful assist
When I bought my iPad, the salesman suggested I might like forScore because I play classical guitar. He was right. This app is beyond helpful; it is essential. I can transfer scores with one click, seamlessly, every time. I can annotate them. I can organize them. It comes with a metronome, a keyboard, and a tuner. I would not want to be without it.
Won’t sync with iCloud
I’ve loved having this app for my music library since the very beginning of forScore. It’s so well thought out and so useful that I recommended it all the time. That said my particular use, which may not be yours is that I have a MacBook Pro, a 13 inch iPad and an iPad mini that I use for different purposes at different times. All my efforts to sync with iCloud as advertised has failed over a period of years. I’ve reached out to support and they sent me a very long explanation, which I appreciated but didn’t really fix my problem. They described how difficult it is to sync things using iCloud and it wasn’t forScore that was bad but that iCloud was bad. So for me adding scores to this app on one device means that I will not have it on my other device when I reach for it. Bottom line: if you only use this app on one device, you are all set. It’s great and it will work for you and you’ll have all your music in one place. However, if you have forScore on more than one device, this app falls frustratingly short. I hope they work this thing out at some point, and I will look forward to revising my rating for the five stars that it will deserve. Thx, -steve
Great…and awful
Forscore is a terrific app for storing, displaying and marking up scores with great features. The syncing between Apple devices is a nightmare and has been for several years. Forscore REALLY needs to get serious about fixing this. It really undermines the user experience causing vast amounts of time wasted consulting help, customer service, deleting, backing up re-syncing and more. .

A great app but I really wish that highlights would go under the notes, not over them. I know it’s possible because the app notability does it for my scores. But this app is better in all other aspects
Doesn’t work at all
IPad Pro is up to date. Downloaded and -aid for the pro version of the software. I cannot make it work. Not recommended!
Best app for Music!
I love ForScore! It makes my life so much easier having all of my music on my iPad instead of having to lung around 5 different scores or bulky binders everywhere I go. My only issue is with music that is in a set list. There is always a lag when turning to the last page of a file, when there is another file after it. It’s enough of a lag that my accompanists at auditions are often thrown off by it, and think that it isn’t turning, so they tap again and when it finally turns, it turns two pages, and they are lost for a few measures until they can get back to the right place. There’s no room for lag error in turning pages in an audition, so once they can fix that issue, I’ll give it 5 stars.

Can’t share set lists!
It should be easy to share a set list, but spent an hour and can’t figure it out. Am I an idiot, or is this an inexcusable flaw?

Great! But a little bug…
I love forScore! But these is this little thumbnail sketch shows up that appears on the screen. The only way to get rid of it is to restart my iPad.

Where’s the nav?
This used to be a great app. For all the updates that are released, whatever gets fixed is not worth it. The latest updates have made basic functionality - like being able to see your song list! - impossible to find. Want to add songs to a set list? Good luck finding them! Please make it usable again - thank you!

Lag time with update
With last update there is a huge lag time when searching different libraries, playlists etc. and there is a noticeable amount of time delay. Zero customer support with this app.
The new update…ack!
The repositioning of the toolbar in the newest update makes it so that when we try to turn the page, the tool bar keeps popping up instead of the page turning. This is a really bad user interface. And based the Choir members around me, it’s happening to all of us. Can you please please remove this feature… I can’t imagine during our concert trying to frantically tap out of the toolbar!

So frustrating
forScore is easily one of the most counterintuitive, aggravating, and poorly designed apps I’ve ever been forced to use. The interface is a maze, the features rarely work as advertised, and I constantly have to force‑quit and reopen it—sometimes several times in a single rehearsal—just to get basic functions to respond. My choir may swear by this app, but even they acknowledge how flawed it is. If this is considered the gold standard of digital music library tools, then the bar is buried underground. For the price I paid, I could have used a basic PDF reader and saved myself the time, money, and endless frustration this piece of garbage has caused. Support is minimal, documentation is vague, and half the menus don’t behave the way the instructions claim they do. The whole experience feels unreliable, overcomplicated, and absolutely not worth the cost.

Continuing face turn issues
I have loved this app until recently. The face turn option is compatible with my iPad, but works one day, but not the next. Both iPad and forScore are using the latest version. If this issue continues, I will have to consider other apps.
Love it
I am a newer cello player and I live that I can upload or scan new pieces in quickly. It has a nice dashboard and tuner built it I have marked up pieces so I can search inside easier for longer pieces I just bought a blue tooth pedal Very helpful when my quartet practices I can switch music quickly. Newer Versions Bugs
With the new iPad Air 2025 insert-text functions in upper and lower areas are barely manageable. While in editing mode, as soon as the blue text brackets are inserted The Page skips upwards or downwards obstructing the text brackets, making it impossible to insert text closely to the upper or bottom areas. Another persistent bug is the Toggle between the edit-text function and rectangle function. Every time an extra tap must be done for the Toggle between the two to happen. Please Fix!
Great for my trumpet playing
I’ve tried many other apps but always come back to forScore. My iPad isn’t young enough to turn pages using facial gestures useful for piano/organ playing. The whole package is superb for my playing trumpet in band and orchestra,

Without a doubt the best score library out there for Mac and iPad. However, since the latest update (15.0.7) it crashes constantly on my Mac. Please fix. Have sent data to Apple
Glitch Apple Pencil Use
I love this app. I use it for all my performances and makes sheet music management bearable. The one primary complain I have is when I try to write note on the music using my Apple Pencil. The app glitches/stutters whenever I write, which makes it annoying to even use. I’ve Recently upgraded both my I-ad and Apple Pencil, and STILL the app glitches. Wasn’t a problem before. maybe it’s just me, but if not, would be great to have this glitch fixed. P.S. I’ve turned my machine on and off, AND uninstalled and reinstalled the app…. Still same problem..
