Love the update
Love this app, it is the only way I cross stitch. The latest update made the app even better. I was expecting a lot of issues with such a significant update but there were only a few. The developers made a point to review comments and have a plan to quickly resolve the few issues that have been identified. I especially appreciate how much better self created PDFs (by scanning pattern on my printer) go into the app..
Greedy!
Subscription required for a pattern keeper app is crazy to me. I'd rather just print out my pattern and mark off stitches with a pen. What in the world would you charge a subscription for? One-time-fee, maybe. But a reoccurring subscription is just silly! I don't recommend this app.
Missing Colors
I am enjoying using this program and find it very useful. However, it does not include DMC Mouline colors.
Update? Do not do it
I loved the last version of this app. The update is a mess and completely unusable. I am in the middle of a project with a timeline and who knows when I will be able to work on it again. I needed 3 important functions: run without crashing, open my work in progress charts, markup completed stitches. This program reliably crashes each time I try to open my current program. I do not see how to markup stitches. The old buttons are gone and the developer says he will do another video “at a later time” to explain this process. I don’t see how to correct and line up the grid lines or I would just reload a new chart and try to mark off the 3500 stitches I have completed. Frustration!
Fails to Refresh Purchase
Old iPad died. Had to replace with a new iPad. I could open the app and see the green check mark which shows I purchased a subscription but the app would not refresh my purchase so that I could open my job to start marking up my stitches using the new iPad. My Apple Customer Service advised that it is a developer problem. However I was already in touch with this developer and they could not refresh my purchase. The said Apple Customer Support could handle my problem. I asked for a refund and I’ve lost months of work. I ended up canceling / deleting the App from my device. I re-installed Markup RXP to start a new subscription because it’s so user friendly to work with. I love how it works.
This is what every stitcher needs
I have been stitching cross stitch for over 30 years. I don’t know how I could have been doing this for so long without this app. Kevin is an amazing developer for committing to a project. Once you take the time to play and learn how to use this app I am sure you will love it as well. So many powerful features and the new 2.0 update is awesome.
Instant crash...help please!
I’ve heard amazing things about this app my other Cross-Stitchers. So I was very disappointed when I finally was able to download it and it immediately crashed after the title screen. I can’t even get the app to open at all. Please help me, I would love to be able to change my review to five stars!
Blackwork, backstitch, fractional stitches and French knots
I love how easy this app makes it to keep track of what I’m working on, but I would love it if there was some way to mark up blackwork patterns, backstitch, fractional stitches and French knots. I can fiddle it with patterns that include partial stitches, and even work out where basic backstitching and French knots go by adding the pattern to the Pictures tab as well as the Markup tab, but can’t mark them up. Blackwork is more complicated and I’d love to be able to track progress in the same way as I can track basic cross stitch.
So expensive
I was enjoying this app, but suddenly locking everything behind a paywall of $30AUD a year is rediculous
Subscription for No Updates
Yeah, this app is probably the best in the iOS ecosystem, but paying for a subscription with no updates in two years is a joke. PDFs import blurry, the UX is a bit clunky, no real ability to detect fractional stitches is upsetting. So it works fine enough, but it’s disappointing to pay for access to something when it’s not actively getting better
Simply incredible
I got this app and I don’t have any pdf patterns. But I took a picture of my paper pattern and scaled it in the app. The app identifies the grid and it works just as good as the true pdf one. So happy!
Frustrated
I don’t understand the great reviews. Doesn’t work as shown in the video. I cannot highlight just one symbol, I am completely frustrated and would like my money back. Paid for a year and have already canceled my subscription, just downloaded it an hour ago.
Great app, but…
I have been using this app for cross-stitching for a long time and love it. The ONLY improvement to it would be using an Apple pen to mark backstitching. Please make this possible so that I can give the app 5 stars.
Good, not great
This is an “ok” app for cross stitching. Yes, you can mark off the stitches you’ve done, but it’s missing some key functionality. 1) You can’t use gestures. If you’re in “markup” mode, you can’t use two fingers to move the pattern. You have to swap modes. If you forget, you end up either marking or unmarking lots of stitches. Frustrating! 2) You can’t upload parts of patterns or progress with existing patterns, for example with a stitch along. You should be able to export progress and apply it to a new file, or apply a new file to an existing one. 3) It doesn’t support back stitch, French knots, half stitches, and cross stitches with different thread counts, all of which are very common. There are other things too… but for me those are the most frustrating. It does a basic job for a simple PDF pattern, but if I have the choice I prefer to convert my files and use another app with a four letter name. I really hope the Markup RXP team or developer finds some time to make some changes and improve some of this basic functionality. It has a LOT of potential, but feels like it’s an alpha build rather than a full release.
Subscription not recognised
really enjoyed the app during the trial, unfortunately i paid for the subscription several days ago and the app hasn’t recognised it. Tried deleting the app and reinstalling as well as several other suggestions from the FAQ which didn’t work and also couldn’t get a refund on the apple store
A game changer
I used to copy and paste smaller areas of my patterns into PowerPoint making it easier for my old eyes to see the different thread codes after I enlarged them. Some of my patterns got to be 30 pages. My daughter showed me what she uses and insisted I use this. And am I glad she did! Click on the code I’m stitching and it’s highlighted so I just need to concentrate on it. Get the app.
NOPE
Symbol detection is extremely inconsistent rendering the app as useless. It can’t be trusted. Going back to Pattern Keeper. Too bad as I really liked the statistics.
Useful App
I like the app but there are some things that are not very good for me. When linking the pages, it is a bit confusing. Otherwise the app is great!
Fiddly
I spent several hours playing with this, trying to get it to be worth it. After finally getting the grid to work with a scanned PDF, it still wouldn’t recognize the symbols and while trying to add them manually would confuse the dots and hearts. I could’ve spent those hours actually cross stitching. Make it more intuitive and I will try it again.

Can’t get full version in the US
I have loved the app, yet when my trial was over I couldn’t get the full version?? It’s in pounds but won’t convert to dollars. This is the only app of its kind yet I can’t use it. Willing to change my review once this is fixed.
Game Changer!
Love, love, love this app! I won’t do cross stitch again without it. 4 stars vs 5 only because there are some functions that are hard to understand, but there are FB groups that will help you navigate the app.
Select Symbol
When I select the symbol it highlights other symbols with it and leaves off some that is supposed to be highlighted. I don’t understand why it’s doing this.
Good app but a little inconvenient
The app is really useful, I wish there was a built in hex to dmc converter, some of the patterns I find are in hex and it’s very inconvenient 😔 also adding in the key section where you can add a pictures, I feel it would be helpful to add your own keys separately.
App Owner is Fabulous!
This cross stitch app is the only one my family and I use. It has wonderful functionality and the beauty is that you can load paper patterns which is all our family uses. I’ve been really struggling getting a large paper pattern loaded, so reached out to James for help. He was able to get the pattern loaded and helped my understanding along the way. James, thank you so much! Family members each have paid for the subscription for years and we agree, this is one of our most used apps. Thank you for allowing for us to vote for future enhancements. Looking forward to future updates.
Awful interface
I design software and while this app has helpful features, I can’t figure out simple things like how to delete a project. I don’t want to listen to a 15 minute video to learn how to do that. I also want to modify some colors. I did that when I first added a project, but but now that it’s in the app as a project, I don’t seem to be able to do that. I have clicked all around for 20 minutes fired to figure that out. So I decided to delete the project and start over. Can’t delete a project. Awful.
Brilliant App
I absolutely love this app - for love nor money I cannot get Dimensions charts into the app but literally everything else I scan and add. It can be a bit fiddly but it”s workable with most things and the YouTube videos are especially helpful. There is a helpful Facebook group too but most of all - the support from the developer is outstanding. I uploaded a chart to the website that I could not get into Mark Up despite trying all the tricks and James sorted it for me within 2 hours - he's amazing! The subscription is well worth the price just for that alone. Well done James and thank you xx
Activating free trial needlessly difficult
A two week free trial is advertised but I could not figure out how to activate it in what I would consider a reasonable amount of time and digging through options. Also the “Markup R-XP Full $12.99” seems to imply that you can purchase the app out right instead of a subscription, but I could not find this option easily either. If your app is subscription only, please do not waste my time by advertising it otherwise.
Great but expensive
Good app but expensive for a casual stitcher at $35-40 a year depending on conversion. Now that trial is done, I can’t even use on view-only to check where I was up to in the pattern
Bring your projects to life!
What a fantastic app! It really brings the patterns to life. I love that you can see how much longer the project will take, how many stitches are remaining of each color, and even the amount of time you are spending stitching each day. I cannot even imagine using a paper pattern anymore. This is great!
Poor customer service
I’ve purchased my subscription but it doesn’t refresh to recognize this. There’s no contact information to request support. I’ve spent money unnecessarily
Fabulous!
I’m very new to this app but have been amazed with the exceptional customer support and fast replies to my questions. They provide detailed information, links to lots of video tutorials and I especially love the ongoing upgrading and program support of the app itself. Looking forward to diving in to marking up some projects - so much easier to see than on paper charts!
Frustrating trial to expensive subscription
The app is absolutely perfect… until 2 weeks go by and suddenly I learned it was a trial period for an app that then costs 25$ per year. Before downloading this app, I did not see any cost or trial information (in hindsight I see one line referencing a two week trial period at the end of the very long description). Now, I have worked on the app for two weeks, marking stitches I can’t even access because the cost is too high for me. The app is great… as long as you’re wanting to pay an ongoing cost. 25$ is reasonable, but 25$ yearly is far too high.
It’s okay
The app itself works well, and £18 for a year isn’t that bad at all. However, if you’re doing a large scale project, it won’t even mark half of the different symbols or recognize them. This means you must go through yourself and ,annually input many of the symbols, which is rather time consuming. So, I would say it’s good for small scale projects, but anything large scale will take a long long time if you have to manually input symbols.
LOVE THIS!!!!
Absolutely incredible!!! I would never be able to cross stitch without this. It has helped to keep my project sooo organized and even has an ‘end date’ to plan accordingly! It keeps track of the amount of stitches you do daily. It allows you to mark every stitch easily so you never miss a stitch and you can find all of the symbols of one kind across each page with ease!!! I would highly recommend to all cross stitchers out there! YOU NEED THIS! It is a game changer :)
Added charts have errors
Added charts allegedly have errors yet nothing g works when the screen is tapped to try to make the adjustments. Adjustments are not clear and the instructions provided are not clear. So far a very frustrating experience!
Great App
I love that I can document my progress both with stats and pictures so I can look back later. The only downside is they cannot facilitate SALs, so you end up starting again each time the next part is released.
Main mark up function doesn’t work
This app looked really promising, the pattern uploaded fine and it was highlighting symbols and all that, but the main function of marking up the pattern just does not work. I’ve tried clicking, tapping, dragging… when I hold down for an extended period I get options to markup the entire square, or mark parking, but I’m not able to mark up individual squares. Disappointing
Sync on apple devices?
Like it but would love it if I didn’t have to download each pattern on each device! Sorry but that drives me potty. Also I struggle to adjust grid. I make the line exact to the grid and it never seems to be correct. I have looked at tutorials but still never mastered. Great app for keeping my patterns organised other than that but I’m finding I’m using Books more on more iPad because of the issues noted above. Also I don’t have to pay for books.
So Great for Cross-Stitch
Markups-XP has changed my life and my joy of stitching. I am currently doing a project that has almost 50,000 stitches. When I printed out the pattern there were 37 sheets. So confusing. With MarkupR-XP it is so easy to see where you are and what you’ve completed. Thank you
Awful
This is awful. Cannot figure out how to use this app. And yes I watched the videos. Narrator doesn’t stake a breath, you have to memorize what he shows you bc watching videos on device is that this app is on! It’s a nightmare. Not in the least self intuitive on how to use this app. Can’t even figure out if I I can erase what I already applied to app. It’s a bloody nightmare to use. Don’t waste your money.
Great app
I’ve tried a number of free apps and iBook to track patterns but none compare to this app. This is a great app with excellent, fast response customer service and multiple helpful YouTube video tutorials.
This app is fantastic but
This app I have had since it started out, now with the newest update I am noticing it is draining my battery very fast. And from posting about this in the Facebook group lots of people are having the same problem. This app seriously drains your battery completely. During a cost of living crisis it is not practical for people to leave the device charging constantly just to be able to stitch, it’s too costly for energy to do that. Please look into this issue as a matter of urgency because although I love the app I can’t use it as much as I would if it didn’t use so dam much battery. So for now I have to print my patterns and stitch. It’s cheaper too

This sounds like hyperbole
This may sound like hyperbole, but this app has absolutely changed the game for my cross stitching. It is wonderful! I can keep up with each stitch I have made and miss far fewer. The speed with which I work is so much higher, and that instant gratification in seeing a project come together is wonderful. Love this app.
Won’t upload chart
Have tried uploading photo, chart, and key. Won’t do anything becuz name of pattern doesn’t come up (Riolis, which is from Europe).
